I got the curry sauce after seeing my hamburger steak plain. It was pretty good. I decide to try something else off their menu which is their specialty. Beef Pepper. I saw on the menu that you can order it as a combo and i like shrimp so I got it with shrimp. I saw a girl order her plate with eggs sunny side up and she mixed it all in like tamago meshi. Maybe the egg was raw and cooked on your sizling platter. I knew i had to get eggs too. Oh for those who don't know tamago meshi is hot rice mixed with a raw egg and shoyu. I got through the menu quite quickly since I knew how to order from being there there first time. It's the same time as the first time. Quite crowded but we got to get a table. Two times twice crowded. I don't mind waiting for good food. Once seated and ordered the food comes out pretty quick. Everything was served on a sizling platter so it actually cooks while you're beginning to eat. You need to flip the meat and shrimp to cook both sides. There was a lot of shrimp but not so much meat. I thought it would be the other way around with more beef. I got to mix my egg with my rice and corn. I added their garlic shoyu to it and it was delicious. The beef was nice and tender like shabu shabu. The shrimp was good but was looking for butter. Maybe I should have asked but I used the garlic shoyu and I was good to go. I like their garlic shoyu. Everything was good and served piping hot. Be careful as the food really is still cooking on your platter. It's really hot. Pepper Lunch has been open since December of 2025 in the Moanalua Shopping Center on Valkenburgh Street. A Tokyo-based fast-casual restaurant chain. I finally decided to make my initial visit as they just recently began offering takeaway. Pepper Lunch sells its concept as a DIY teppanyaki experience; but I'm a single-guy and convenience is more of a priority. So, I missed having still raw meat / seafood on a 500 degree farenheit electric plate served to your plate, but walked in a little early at the 1130p pickup time and got my meal already bagged sitting on the front counter. I have to say my Jumbo Beef Pepper with egg ( an addition ) was delicious if underwhelming in presentation. The beef is certified Angus and served with garlic butter and corn. There is a lot of pepper mixed in...as one might expect. Normally, you would order on a touch display at the front counter. Perhaps another day. They were busy on this Wednesday lunch rush. They are open from 1030a till 900p everyday. Lots of stalls in the Moanalua Shopping Center but it also gets busy during oeak hours. After paying, we picked up a number buzzer and chose our seating. Place had a good amount of seating and it was good that they also provided high chairs. The beef & shrimp combo and beef & salmon combo were both incredibly delicious. The flavors were so satisfying and flavorful that we were pleasantly surprised by their quality. Once your plate arrives, it's extremely hot, so immediately mix your ingredients on the hot black skillet and savor the experience. We devoured the entire plate, especially since it was our first meal of the day. To complement our main course, we ordered sweet potato fries and chicken. You stand it line and wait for the server to tell you which is your table and you head straight to the self-serve kiosk. Once you order, you pay and sit at your table with a number. They quickly bring you your food. I've been to other Pepper Lunches and this one is small. However, they are fast and you get to eat shortly after. Currently, there is no take out available. Avoid parties of more than 4 if you can. The table layout accommodates 2-4 people and they have to push tables together to seat 5. The food is on the expensive side. It comes to you on a hot skillet and you essentially cook the food yourself. If you're not one to like this style of restaurant, this might not be the place for you. Still give it a try. The food quality is great. It's definitely not 5 star angus wagyu, but the experience and taste is great. You can customize each entree with a lot of add ons, including egg, mushrooms, garlic, cheese, etc. The staff is super friendly. Yup and you order using the provided kiosk is easy you start with what base of rice or pasta with what type of protein which I choose beef and pasta and that's what comes with it all the pics you see are add one and that's where it can add up depending on what you'd like as I chose to add mushrooms and cheese and at $2.29 each I stopped there. You then pay and it won't take long for your order to arrive which was quite impressive and the sizzle itself was much more grand as it did go on for quite some time before it settles giving you enough time to capture that perfect pic but what I do love about it is the crust it gives as it sits in the hot skillet. I did get the Beef Aglio Olio Pasta which was yummy and the sauce came on the side making its grand entrance with the pour making it a fun interactive experience that I do see many do enjoy as well. Then, mix in the proteins and sauce. I flattened out the rice and just let it brown for a bit, while I was mixing the proteins. When it had a bit of that crispy rice crust I mixed in the egg. There were a couple different sauces at the table which helped because the meat on its own doesn't have a lot of flavor. I think the portion sizes were disappointing for the price, my meal was around $18.50 after adding the egg and it was mostly rice with a pretty small portion of beef. I met up with some friends for lunch on 1/8/26 at around 12:45 pm. Luckily, we were next in line to be helped and were quickly shown to a table before heading to the kiosks to place our order. There are two kiosks, which helps keep things moving. This was my first time dining here, but one of my friends attended the grand opening and showed us how the ordering process works. You place your order at the kiosk by choosing your protein (beef, chicken, etc.), deciding if you want it jumbo or not, adding toppings, selecting your drink, entering your phone number, name, and paying. After that, you take a table number and input it before sitting down. Once seated, we were given water, with refills throughout the meal. Within a few minutes, our sizzling hot plates arrived at the table. We all ordered the Beef Pepper Rice, and it came out hot, steaming, and sizzling. We mixed the thinly sliced beef into the rice and added the two sauces available at the table--a sweet sauce and a shoyu garlic sauce. Both added great flavor, and we especially loved how the rice became crispy as it continued to cook on the hot plate. Service was excellent. Our waiter was attentive, refilled our water regularly, checked in on us, cleared our plates promptly, and even took several photos for our group, which we really appreciated. I'm very happy to see a part of my study abroad days come to Hawaii! I used to eat Pepper Lunch pretty frequently whenever we were at a food court in Hong Kong and I definitely missed it. It's crazy (but also not surprising) to see that there's still a decent line forming outside during the holidays. For a Friday night, I would say 15-20 min wait? The space is kinda small so if you have any big parties, you'll probably be separated. Ordering is pretty simple: Use the kiosk, get your table buzzer, and the food will be brought out to you! We got the Jumbo Beef Pepper Rice and the Creamy Shrimp Pasta - both were delicious! For the jumbo, there was more beef which was great but the rice ratio was a tad off so definitely a personal preference and you can add the sauces on the side to "zhuzh it up" as well. We were pleasantly surprised with the creamy pasta and I definitely would love to get it again or try out their Aglio Olio. The noodles were cooked well and the cream sauce was a decent alfredo sauce (coming from someone who doesn't care for alfredo much) The portion is on the smaller size so you might still feel hungry afterwards. They seem to be doing well and the taste is almost reminiscent of the Asia locations so I definitely would love to come back again one day! read more
