The menu changes every few months which gives me an excuse to come back! They serve modern Chinese fusion, with little twists here and there. I have some favorites, like the whole five spiced duck, all the fried rice dishes, jelly fish, spicy whole crab, lobster pot, tung po pork belly, bang bang chicken wings, tea smoked chicken...basically half the menu. They also have really good lunch and Happy Hour deals so make sure to swing by the restaurant during those hours too. Off the HH menu, I'd recommend the dry rub pork ribs and steamed clams. You can't go wrong with most of the menu, so just take your pick and you won't regret it! Service has improved greatly, and our server, Conner who we've had before, is still the best! We also loved our bartenders, Jessica and Lilly, who recommended delicious drinks and made sure we were taken care of the entire night. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant if you want to try out Chinese/American fusion for a fancy dinner. I had previously come here to just grab a quick drink a few days ago. The drinks were awesome and the staff were super friendly. Great atmosphere and decor. The food smelled delicious so we decided to come back another day for dinner. We came for dinner today and the restaurant was very busy and we sat at the bar. There was only one bartender so he wasn't able to be very attentive to us. No fault of his because he was very friendly and provided us good service although he was visibly very busy(Friday evening). We ordered pot stickers and some drinks and as usual the drinks were amazing. The pot stickers were also great. We then ordered orange chicken and chicken and broccoli. The flavors for the food were great, but my only complaint is that for a $20 plate, they should be using better quality meat. I could barely eat the chicken in my dish because it seems to be thigh meat and a lot of it was tough and not pleasurable to chew and just overall bad quality. $20 for a chicken dish is definitely not worth it with bad quality meat, and they didn't include rice with it. I had asked for extra sauce with mine and it didn't have it. The quality of ingredients and flavorful cuisine was much appreciated. We ordered the crispy duck, seafood noodle soup, forbidden rice, and cucumber salad. The portions were decent for the price point too. The food came out fast. The specialty cocktails were professionally mixed, a 2046 and a pear martini. The service was just okay, delayed, seemingly unenthusiastic staff. I suspect when you automatically charge an 18% across the board tip for servers you get what you get. The decor of the restaurant is a seemingly nostalgic throwback to WWII, sort of like the Lieben bar in Shanghai, lots of dark wood, leather, incandescent lighting, metal grates. Being from Asia, I'm always more critical of Asian food and they've passed my test with flying colors! The space is modern yet cosy. They also have the option of dining outdoors when the weather is agreeable and also have the ability to host large parties! Service overall is good, the staff know their menu well and are always courteous. Things can get slow if they're busy inside and if you're outside. I came here tonight for dinner with some teammates and I was absolutely amazed by the food. Quality and taste are just out of the world. I was invited to this restaurant for the first time to celebrate babies. Now.. I'm a bit more of the furry baby with whiskers type, but let me be honest, this girl's babies are super adorbs. The interior design of this restaurant is incredible with wood and black metal contrasts and industrial accents. It's pretty much everything I want in my house, including all the noms that were presented as beautifully as the restaurant itself. Our server was incredibly helpful. The soy sauce they cook with is gluten free which opens up a few more menu items for those of us in the Celiac club. Our server helped to clarify what I could and couldn't have and made sure to ask the kitchen to cook several items gf for me. We had so much food at the table which is exactly how I like it. The items I sampled were the lettuce cups which were delicious along with several of the vegetable dishes. My favorite of the veggie dishes was the kale. What really was killer though was the crispy duck and the scallops. I literally gorged myself so I had a matching tummy to the beautiful mother to be. My boyfriend and I decided to do something a little different and decided to walk around okd Bellevue and find an interesting place to try without using the help of yelp and ended up here. This place was like a rollercoaster of highs and lows which resulted in the 2 star. The first high: the place is nice and modern, we got seated right away. The first low: it took about 10-15 minutes for us to figure out who our server was. Once he came over, we had questions about the menu, so we asked if he can come back in a couple of minutes so we can decide on what to eat. He didn't come back for another 15 minutes... The high: we ordered the soup dumplings, the string beans from the hh menu, and the bacon w/ Chinese cauliflower dish. The food came out pretty fast and it all tasted good, surprisingly. The soup dumplings were standard, the string beans still has a crunch and the bacon dish had a nice balance of flavor. The low: the bill came out and we saw the automatic gratuity was on there...our service did not deserve that.. and it was pricey, with try exception of the string beans. Came here for dinner last night with some friends and it was good. Pretty decently priced as well, 4 entrees & 1 app for about $105 and that included tax and the tip they add on which is 18%. Nothing really stood out as really good or really bad so I'm not in a super big hurry to come back but I also wouldn't not come back. The only thing to mention is if you have allergies be careful! We ordered the 5 flavored pan fried dumpling, one of which was seafood, which it doesn't say on the menu FYI (my friends very allergic to shellfish) the waitress told us what each flavor was via the color of the dumpling but she got it wrong... so my friend had a bad allergy attack at the restaurant. Located in downtown Bellevue, Peony is in the Meyden building which means you can get 3 hours of parking. Super helpful for the downtown area. Food: Mushrooms and Chicken - 5 stars! This is from the main entree of the menu, and it is tasty! The mushrooms are the Chinese black mushrooms that has that slightly chewy and meaty taste. Both chicken and mushrooms absorbed the wok stir fry flavor very well. Singapore Noodles with seafood - 5 stars This yellow curry noodle dish has the right amount of kick, and the seafood blended in perfectly. Wild mushrooms with seafood - 4 stars This dish was in the chef's recommendations section and it was not as wow-ing as hoped. At $10 more than the other entrees, you basically get a lot of mushrooms. First, there is a 20% service charge automatically added. Ok, I have an expectation warranting that 20% service charge, then...and as you can guess, that was not our experience. We came during Happy Hour the last Saturday of 2018, and sat at the bar. When we walked in, no one was bartending and there were a small number of patrons and only another couple sitting at the bar, too. Um, ok, that's fine. Our server, who was manning some of the other tables also assisted us, mentioned the bartender will be coming soon. I will cut to the chase, we were there for 2+ hours with no interaction with our bartender except to get our bill, it was almost like we were inconveniencing him from his regular duties to even do that. As for the food, Peony was offering new food items for Jan 2019, and that weekend they were offering 50% off those items. That's a no-brainer, we ordered off that list. We ordered 4 dishes: Spicy wonton ($8), House smoked bacon with cauliflower ($18), salt and pepper fish ($18), and Seafood Singapore Noodle ($22). Of those dishes we really enjoyed the spicy wonton, house smoked bacon with cauliflower and the salt and pepper fish - although you can get this at any restaurant in the ID for half that price. Sad to say, I was really looking forward to the Singapore Seafood Noodle, which disappointed. It was lacking flavor, but not lacking in oil... Would I come here again? I'm really struggling with the fact that I'm giving this place three stars when it deserves more than that. I really love the food here, I really do. Their squid ink rice is delicious, and the presentation on the duck is really good. Overpriced? Well, I guess if you ask someone who goes to your regular Chinese restaurant where you can get the duck for half the price, sure, it's overpriced. This isn't it your typical Chinese restaurant, it's more upscale. So why am I giving it three stars? Well, the staff hospitality is inconsistent. The hostess/foh it's just so unsure about giving you good service. We walked in 15 minutes before closing wanting a drink at the bar, and her immediate reaction was to look back into the kitchen then look back at us and tell us that we're not going to be able to order food. And she just had a look like she didn't want to be there at all. A colleague of mine tried to make a reservation for 8:00 p.m. on a weekday for a business dinner, and he was told that the kitchen closes at 8:15 p.m. --- even though this restaurant closes at 9:00 p.m. um, what? The bartender, Joe, was pretty awesome though. He's got a great attitude and was very hospitable. I would go back and eat at the bar and drink everything he serves. We went in for brunch all you can eat dimsum , which is served sat and sun from 10am to 2pm. There was no wait or line, so it was awesome. Parking is either street or 3 hours free validated. I took my baby in with me, and he was able to eat for free. They were very nice about bringing us a high chair, plastic cup bowl plate, and utensils for him. There are about 15-20 different items to eat for the buffet. Half are dimsum items, and some are traditional fare of fried rice, chow mein, cucumber salad, and congee. The last touch of fruit platter is refreshing and nice. There were no green onion pancakes, egg tarts or fried doughnuts I was impressed with how clean and well maintained everything was this morning. More people opted for the non buffet menu than the brunch. I was also told that next month there will be a new menu- can't wait to come back. Lastly, there wasn't a mandatory 18% tip. If you can't find parking on the street, use the parking garage (Meyden building)! Not sure why the low ratings at this restaurant. I found it very satisfying. Two couples of either side of my table also seemed to be quite pleased with their meals (and I didn't hear a word of English from either side). There are plenty of choices on the menu, and if I lived in the area, I'd definitely be back and try other dishes. The Garlic sautéed Lotus root and Kales dish was a winner (other than a little challenging eating the lotus root with chopsticks), and the Hand-made squid ink seafood noodles was a great entrée. If you are thinking about ordering the squid ink noodles, check out one of the hundreds of photos, so you won't be surprised with the style of the noodle (it is more of a pasta rather than a long Chinese noodle). If you usually frequent Americanized Chinese restaurants, you may find the choices here a little scary as the menu is not separated into chow mein, chop suey and rice dishes. The menu instead is a cornucopia of succulent choices. Lotus root has not been on my radar as a staple food but when prepared with kale and served here, it is both a treat and a challenge. Peony Kitchen in Bellevue has an amazing crispy duck with thin pancakes, grilled preserved lemons, veggies, and duck sauce. It is even completely deboned besides the drumsticks, which makes it easy for kids (or spouse, haha). I got this a little while ago on a Saturday night mid-pandemic and it was empty there, so go support them if you can. Leftover tip: reheat duck in 350 degree oven for 5 minutes and then flip it to broil so the skin sizzles but don't let it burn. This duck is sliced thin so it doesn't take long. read more
