The flavor profile is unbeatable: packed with rich chili oil, fragrant spices, and that signature mouth-numbing Sichuan pepper kick that leaves you craving more. It is so good that I regularly drive 30 minutes each way just to pick up takeout, and it is 100% worth every single mile. Absolutely incredible. Easily one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the Seattle area. I was…read moreinitially a bit dubious of this place because their photos of their dishes looked a little _too_ picture perfect / social media ready, but Shaoshan Impression turned out to be one of the most authentic and delicious restaurants I've been to in the area so far. Our favorite had to be the duo jiao yu pian (two super tender, juicy white fish filets coated in two different sauces. One was pure spiced and the other had suan cai, a slightly funky and sour pickled veggie). We also loved the stir-fried eggplant and green beans, which was perfectly tender and intensely savory. It was great to have some veggies to break up the otherwise intensely protein-forward meal, and the veggies were all so well-prepared. Despite the menu saying the dish was spicy, I didn't find it spicy at all, so it was also a good break from the rest of the peppery dishes. We also had their stir-fried shrimp, which had an incredibly extravagant presentation, with mountains of red chili peppers and a burner to keep the dish warm throughout the meal, but I thought that the shrimp were a smidge overcooked and more salty than spicy. Nonetheless, the meal was delightful, and, even more importantly, it received the Asian parent stamp of approval! The service was also quite efficient and friendly. There was a kiosk near the front door to join the waitlist, but we ended up only having to wait ~5 minutes before being seated. We ordered off a QR code at the table, but the food all came out quickly and our server was incredibly attentive -- he preempted our every need and refilled water, brought new napkins, and cleared completed dishes almost the second we were ready.

The Bravern does have its own underground lot that the restaurant will validate parking for and I'd say you can definitely walk in on a weekday no problem. The restaurant did seem extremely short staffed with service being extremely slow. We ended up taking more than 2 hours for dinner just because the amount of time it took to place our orders and wait for our food. Overall, the menu is a mix of American style Chinese food and some more traditional dishes. Most of the dishes were made well advance, but you can really tell. The Peking duck was insanely dry and the braised pork belly also wasn't braised quite long enough. The sweet and sour chicken wasn't super crunchy, but the flavor was solid; though I will say, the blueberries were just warmed blueberries on the plate and didn't add anything. The mushroom truffle fried rice was pretty delicious though as was the complimentary soup with the restaurant week set. TLDR food is a bit expensive with some standouts, but generally slightly subpar. Service is insanely slow.

I would say it tasted better in my memory. The dry pot was disappointing because the spare ribs were mostly bones and there was not much else in the dry pot. There was no any lotus root, or potatoes that we have had before in other dry pots. The dry string beans was ok, the beans here are usually deep fried before it was stir fried and it was not deep fried as much like it was more cooked? I am not sure how to describe it but it was not as fragrant. The chongqing chicken was ok. The waiter asked how spicy we wanted and we said we can do normal chinese spicy but it was not that spicy haha. This was my favorite dish that day. Overall, it was ok, Bellevue definitely has better Szechuan food elsewhere.

When I was running my own restaurant, I often told my team: if a place has exceptional service but…read moremediocre food, it will still get good reviews; if the food is extraordinary but the service is terrible, it will inevitably get bad reviews. However, when both service and food exceed expectations, a restaurant becomes an industry benchmark. Service: The service here was truly, exceptionally outstanding. A friend brought me here today--he had only been to this restaurant once before--yet every single staff member remembered him, and even remembered what he had ordered last time! They were genuinely thrilled to see him return. The pacing of the dishes and the check-ins during the meal were both spot-on. Ambiance: A classic Cantonese restaurant atmosphere--full of character, dignified, and rich with Chinese design elements. The seating is comfortable, the restaurant is impeccably clean, and the management is clearly top-notch. Food: Great value for money, with very reasonable pricing. The fried rice was loaded with rich ingredients and seasoned to absolute perfection. The seafood tofu was mild in flavor and made with fresh ingredients--perfect for children. The green beans were fresh and had just the right level of spice. As one of China's Eight Great Culinary Traditions, Cantonese cuisine is defined by its freshness: fresh ingredients, vibrant flavors, and fresh execution. Preparing Cantonese food is far more trouble than people realize; because of the complex preparation, strict standards for ingredients, and a low yield rate, true quality is hard to achieve. Since this restaurant is run entirely by a team of Cantonese chefs, I believe it is ultimately their passion that drives their success.

We ordered shrimp rice roll, har gow, football, shrimp with eggplant, shrimp with bell pepper, spare rib, Xiao long bao, sautéed pea tips, chicken feet, meatballs, shrimp and chive dumplings, tripe, and mango pudding. I really liked the filling in the football, which contained ground pork and mushrooms, not so much the flour for the outer layer. I also liked the tripe, pea tips, and chicken feet. They were delectable. Other than that, it seemed a bit plain. I didn't really like the chili oil they used, it was more like a sambal. I'm glad we ended with the mango pudding for dessert. The mold for it was so cute. Hopefully next time I come here they change up the chili used.

I have to say that compared to the location in the U District, the Bellevue one feels a little bit like an afterthought. The setup is similar, in that you order and pay at a kiosk up front and seat yourself. Otherwise, it is more self-service. You get your own water and they do not come around to provide refills. The menu is mostly the same, with just some slight differences. They do not seem to have the rice noodle option here. I had the cumin lamb noodle soup, my dinner buddy had the hot oil noodles (no soup), and we had the wood ear mushroom salad and the broccoli salad to share. The salads were solid, nothing spectacular but nothing alarming. The noodles are of varying thickness, so there are some really nice chewy parts and some thin parts that go a bit mushy in the soup. The flavor is mostly consistent although I did feel like the cumin flavor was less apparent here. This location does not have the self serve condiments bar, and notably was quite cold, which frankly made the whole experience not that pleasant. I do like xi'an noodles but I will be sticking to the U District location from now on.
