Well, the few reviews I weeded out were definitely true to words. I ordered the spring rolls and yeah it's all spring roll and just a pinch of vegetable. The vegetable Lo Mein with beef added barely had any flavor and I was disappointed at the amount of vegetables as well. I would say it was 85-90% noodle and 10-15% vegetables and meat. I added soy sauce at least 2-3 packs and hot chili oil but it did very little to enhance the taste. The food arrived hot and they included the chopsticks like I asked but the smell and the taste did not match. Next time I'll just order Panda Express and save myself the disappointment and loss of money. read more

I've been living close to this place for over a year now! I saw the lady behind the counter be pregnant, go on maternity leave and then saw her cute baby at the back with the mother/ mother-in-law I'm guessing! You could call me a regular, because it feels like comfort food to me. I really like their fried chicken wings (4pcs) with the pork fried rice, it makes 2 meals for me for $11 which is generally what I order. I also love their egg rolls the regular and the shrimp. I was not a fan of their lo-mein, but I do like their Kung pao and hot & spicy chicken( I always skip the celery and green peppers because they overload it.) I've also tried their lunch combo- I was not a fan of the general Tso either. Also, my Taiwanese roommate told me that what they serve is definitely not authentic Chinese food and they have a special Chinese menu that only the Chinese speaking people know about(like most Chinese restaurants), I'm intrigued. read more

I ordered through DoorDash. I was little disappointed by the taste of everything. It tasted like everything was fried in bad or old oil and the aftertaste was bad. The egg rolls weren't even as good as I remember from the last time I ordered. The crab rangoon is a little expensive for what you get compared to other places (maybe the markup from DoorDash?). I wanted to try this place because they're the only place in town that I could find Sesame Tofu on the menu. Sadly, they mistreated and abused their tofu- my guess is they dip it in corn starch and deep fry it, which anyone who knows tofu knows will lead to a flavorless already chewed bubblegum texture, instead of pan frying- and then saturate it in a syrupy sweet, completely revolting orange sauce and sprinkle a couple sesame seeds on it. I have put a lot of weird and gross things in my mouth, but if I'm gonna swallow something that gross, they should be paying me, not the other way around, so I spit it out. I was disappointed in Peking House- the service was mediocre and the food didn't have any flavor. I added soy sauce to the fried rice but it was still nasty. None of the food had any flavor not even the meat. I went in there on yesterday and ordered the lunch special- sweet & sour chicken and fried rice. I asked to change the plain fried rice to shrimp fried rice (which I knew would cost a little more, but the lady acted as if it was a problem and she did not exchange it for me. At that time another customer had came in and she took it upon herself after hearing the conversation between me and the lady. The customer was trying to tell the lady for me and after awhile I interjected and told the customer that I didn't need her to speak for me. This is the third time this lady at Peking House has pissed me off after I complained about the food or something, her response was as if they (Peking House) don't get no complaints because their food is perfect- well I beg the differ like they say! I will not be going back spending money on that tasteless Chinese food at Peking House. Just so the Chinese lady there know- she has horrible customer service skills. While she seemed to be worried about substituting the fried rice lunch special rice to shrimp fried rice, she shouldn't wonder why they have very few customers in there. I couldn't order and get the substitute that I wanted. Nobody wants to spend money and not get what they want and are paying for. It's a take out place- I wouldn't recommend dining in. Most people had called in before for their orders but it was my first time so I went in to order and waited around 10 minutes for my food- not bad. We got the pork dumplings, sesame chicken and shrimp with vegetables. I went in expecting New York style Chinese food but I was disappointed. There was barely any shrimp, the chicken was heavily breaded and the pork dumplings tasted bland. We had leftovers but it wasn't worth keeping for the next day. Commercial "Asian" food seems very different to me from my memory of years ago. I remember vibrant flavors of garlic and onion. If a dish was labeled "spicy," it was spicy. Today "flavor" seems to come from powder. Dishes seem to lack vibrancy. What I generally see now I describe as food cooked in seawater - all broad, dull flavor. I often think that everything was delivered to every restaurant in a bag from one source. With few exceptions I detest franchise food. If I spend my limited money on prepared food I expect someone who cares about food to cook it for me. Peking House seemed to be a bit different. I wasn't thrilled with much of it but it did all seem to be good, honest flavor. The sauce on the Shrimp with Broccoli was excellent! Except for that sauce, all lacked flavor. There was nothing offensive but it was dull. There was some true flavor with the Vegetable Fried Rice - particularly after it melded over night. It needed much more onion and real garlic. Still dull. My main issue with most "Asian" restaurants is with brocolli. Brocolli is truly a delicate vegetable to cook properly. Even when cooked properly I'm not so sure that it can stand up to food delivery. What I generally get is mushy flowerettes and tough stems. Perhaps it's a product quality issue. Cooking for the general public is dicey. This may be particularly true in the US. All restaurant owners - cook YOUR food. Make the grade based on your sense of flavors and textures. Don't hold back and lie to us. I'd rather fold as a restaurant owner than to serve weakened food according to my standards. If you serve me powerful food and I don't like the dish, all is well. You gave me flavor! I'll be back to try another dish. read more

I ordered from Peking House while on vacation in Savannah. I noticed it was only a ten minute drive from our hotel, so we ordered online and it was ready in less than 15 minutes! The location of the restaurant isn't in the best area, being from Atlanta is wasn't anywhere terrifying or awful but definitely away from the tourist spots. But the food was AMAZING. We paid online and entered to pick up the food, we were greeted with a small but clean restaurant with no tables of chairs (due to the pandemic). We were served from behind a plexiglass window and through a window with door on either side for extra protection which is an awesome idea. We ordered the usual low mein and pork fried rice and the portion sizes were massive. I mean waaaay bigger than your regular huge take-out box, I'm talking a entire container made for a huge meal full of perfect, traditional and delicious rice and noodles! All the meats were tender and juicy, the dumplings were bigger than usual and I'm all the happier for it. I don't think we would've chosen the restaurant driving by it since it's a real hole-in-the-wall, but never judge a book by its cover! We definitely will be getting Peking House again on our next Savannah vacation! read more

Stop referencing bad science from the 1980's. Anyhow, this place is great. Always consistent. Always fast. Always absolutely delicious. Blows any other Chinese food I've had in Savannah out of the water. My only gripe is I wish they were on one of the food delivery apps and I wish they were open late. Something to note: I'm pretty hard-core about Chinese cuisine, especially Cantonese and Hakka cuisine. When I moved to Savannah, seriously, one of the first things I did was locate the Asian groceries so I could cook Cantonese favorites at home. I was riding a CAT bus all over to get noodles and black bean sauce--really. So at first I totally overlooked this dive as something in the ghetto which seemed in poor repair from the outside and probably could at best muster up a very poor relation to General Tso's on a good day, even. However, I was wrong which I discovered when I finally tried it. Yes, the building has seen far better days and the interior is faded and shows what constant cooking, grease, and substandard ventilation can do to wallboard over time. The food is "New York" style Chinese, which means apparently greasy Chinese-American cuisine. It's not grand, but it's not bad, either. Most of all, they are polished at the things they do day after day--General Tso's and other fried breaded chicken dishes, fried rice, chow fun and noodle dishes. Don't expect authenticity (though it can be argued I suppose they are authentic to their Chinese-American NYC-style approach) and don't expect it to be a plethora of fresh vegetables or the finest cuts of beef, but for what it is, it's ok. In fact, it's pretty good. read more

One thing that I really dislike about yelp is that it is damn near impossible to find good Chinese food using the site. What I mean is this: everybody is trying to be "cool" all the time so if you want to find "gourmet" Chinese food or a place that serves bat eyeball stew (not a real dish lol), or hear about somebody's adventures through Asia, yelp can help. If you want to find a good takeout Chinese place serving up the classics, it usually isn't much help. It is in that spirit that I tell you that I have eaten at this place several times over the years and it is average to slightly above average Chinese takeout. I don't know if it's "authentic" and I don't care. If you're the type of person who does care, this may not be the place for you. The fried rice is decent. The general tso's is good (wish it was spicier) and the boneless spare ribs are as they should be. Good value too. read more

Now on days I don't want to cook or dine out, I do the drive by pick up. It does look suspicious from the outside, but it is clean enough on the inside and you get your quick fix. The typical stir-fry dishes are decent as well as the Singapore noodles (dry curry spice). It has a small parking lot for 3 cars and two tables inside but it is best to take out. read more

We ordered the Singapore noodles, chicken lo mein, and veggie stir fry. The Singapore noodles were a little too curried for my liking, but is not bad. The other two were quite tastier but definitely had too much soy sauce and salt so we were really thirsty later. Attention all Northerners! Have you recently moved to the South and desperately miss Chinese food done right, like me? Well, look no further! After moving here from Massachusetts 6 months ago, not having a good go-to Chinese place has been a drag. We've tried everywhere; we've been disappointed everywhere. I drive by this place several times a week, and I've noticed that it touts itself as "New York Style". Being from the south shore of Boston, I wondered if that description was equivalent to "normal Chinese food", and I wanted to check it out. We finally did tonight. We ordered the crab rangoon, chicken fingers and fries (I'll tell you why in a minute), the chicken egg foo young combo plate, and the chicken lo mein combo plate. The crab rangoons, in terms of flavor, were exactly like up north. However, they didn't have much stuffed into them. I don't know if they're pre-packaged and shipped in or if they're made on site, but if they're made on site, perhaps adding a bit more into them would make them pretty epic. As of right now, the best crab rangoons I've ever had in life are at Star Kitchen over on Skidaway. The chicken fingers were huge-- very long, actually! But also, very fresh and they came with honey mustard! Nice touch! I always try fries at Chinese food places because they're always close to the McDonald's fries I love. Here, they were crinkle cut fries BUT they tasted delicious! So two thumbs up on the fries! The combo plates were HUGE. TONS of pork fried rice, the egg rolls were gigantic, and the main portions were nothing to sniff at! My chicken lo mein matched the flavors I am used to. My Mom has been searching high and low for an egg foo young with sauce that is more like gravy, and Peking House had just that. It was fantastic. We are both stuffed and have leftovers for days. Bonus: the combo plates came in those nice black and clear plastic containers you can rinse out and reuse over and over again. There was plenty of duck sauce, soy sauce, and that red sauce for the crab rangoons that seems to be a Southern thing. We are going to try the spare ribs and lobster sauce next time. We wish that this was a sit-down restaurant with a full bar, like the Chinese joints up north. Maybe something for the owners to look into? I can guarantee you'd have two fabulous customers at your bar at least once a week! :) Update: the boneless spare ribs are EXACTLY like what we've missed up north!! We've now eaten here 3 times and the staff is super friendly and the food is CONSISTENT. Update #2: We've now ordered from here 4 times since first discovering it. Each time the food has been made fresh and hot, and it's kept extremely well for the 15-minute ride home! I made an impromptu stop on New Year's Eve because I left work early, but it's not like NYE up north. I went in, placed my order, and walked out within 10 minutes with everything, including a cool free roll-out 2019 calendar. Tonight, we decided to try two new things: the lobster sauce with shrimp, and the fried donuts. The fried donuts are missing the "s" on the menu so you think you're only getting one but you get like, 8 or 9 smaller pastries dipped in sugar and fried goodness. 10/10. They rock. As for the lobster sauce: I love the brown gravy lobster sauce, but I've had the clear sauce before and it's different, but still good. This is the clear sauce. I will say that the shrimp was big and looked and tasted very fresh; however, the clear sauce itself was bland. It just isn't my cup of tea. It came with white rice, though, which was my first time having that and that was very good. I've had places screw up rice before, so I'm always happy when they don't! read more

Peking house was always our favorite Chinese restaurant. On Friday, we ordered our favorite chicken and Chinese vegetables. It always came in a separate plastic container with rice on the side and was always devious and enough for two separate meals. It may be new owners, but now they are serving the same order in small styrofoam containers with less than half the amount of chicken and vegetables and lots of rice to fill the container. Plus the taste was less than past tastings. We will never go back there again unless they go back to the quart plastic containers used strictly for your choice of food. read more
