I don't even know where to start. We arrived on a very busy Saturday night with no reservation and were able to be seated after a very short wait. The staff was very kind and attentive, and the food was the best we have had during our weekend trip to Savannah. The pork soup dumplings were so delicious my kids asked for a 2nd order before we finished the first one. We had the pork soup dumplings (2x), fried pork pot stickers (it's not a pan fry, I would like to try steamed in the future), the cucumbers, the green beans, chicken fried rice and meatballs. We were thinking Savannah would be a stop in the future if it were on the way. We will now come back just for dinner at E-Tang again. Food was top notch-- soup dumplings lived up to the hype, but don't sleep on the beef bao! The place was absolutely packed and, even with a reservation, we were placed into the overflow area, which still looked like a workin progress (expanding, I guess). As a result, this experience lost a bit of the charm. Nonetheless, we would readily go back for another meal-- the orange chicken was the best I've had in the southeast and the salt and pepper shrimp were solid (but could have used a bit of sauce). All in, this place set itself apart and made for a wonderful departure in a city awash with southern fare. Well done! read more

Great Chinese, Asian fusion restaurant. Ample seating indoors or great for takeout. Restaurant is very clean. Food is amazing. Such amazing flavorful dishes. Located in a plaza with other businesses and restaurants. Restaurant can seem a bit hidden as it is located inside the plaza next to a hair salon. Felt that our dinner E-tang was a little hit or miss. Some dishes were spot on, others were straight up bad. For the good - the general tso jumbo shrimp and shrimp soup dumplings were very good, would recommend these. They had an employee freshly making dumplings behind the bar the entire time we were there , so you know they must be a popular item, and rightly so. The lo mein was average, shrimp inside them weren't as good as general tso. The flaming fish was just bad. I don't know what fish they're using, but it was spongy and gross - no one liked it. Wouldn't recommend getting any fish dishes from them. It's too bad because it looks good. All in, I would consider coming back, but only for specific things. I overall like other places in Savannah for Chinese more. read more

SOOOO GOOD! Got the veggie chow mein and the chili oil wontons. Both really yummy. We did takeout but when I picked it up it looked nice inside and was decently busy. The staff wasn't very welcoming and I had to flag someone down to tell them I'm here for pickup but that's how you can tell it's authentic Chinese food! Will come again if I'm in the area. read more

We love E-Tang! First visited last year during our annual Savannah trip and made sure to stop by again. Located inside a shopping plaza you walk into another building to find the restaurant. Simple decorations, not too large so be prepared to wait if you have a large party. Service is always quick and the food is always fresh and delicious. read more

We tried Etang a couple of weeks ago with a group of four and were really impressed. We ordered the bao, handmade soup dumplings, orange chicken, and beef and broccoli. The orange chicken and beef and broccoli each came with a bowl of rice, and the portions on the main dishes were huge. The orange chicken alone was enough for two adults and a nine-year-old to comfortably share. The orange chicken was absolutely delicious--crispy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The beef and broccoli had a rich, savory taste and was cooked really well. The bao were comforting and satisfying, and the soup dumplings were clearly handmade--you could literally watch them being made fresh, which was a great touch. Another big plus: they do not use peanut oil, so anyone with a peanut or peanut-oil allergy can safely eat here, which is hard to find and very appreciated. We were seated right away and drinks were brought. Once the food was delivered though no one came back to refill drinks, bring more rice or check on us. That was the only draw back. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. For four people and four drinks, the total was about $80, which felt very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. Service here was super fast and friendly. They came to take our orders so timely. We got the golden fish soup, pork soup dumplings and the beef pot. Food also came out very fast. I would say the skin on the soup dumplings were a little too thick but the soup inside was flavorful! The golden fish soup was okay, probably just not for me but the fish seemed pretty fresh. The beef pot was fragrant and had a good amount of spice to it and also came with lots of vegetables. Overall a solid Asian spot in Savannah. read more

Wow! Great Chinese restaurant with authentic food and uplifting staff. Our server answered all of our questions and recommended some really great, fresh, flavorful food. The dumplings were tasty, and not greasy at all. The beef with veggies was our favorite. It was healthy yet flavorful and with the perfect amount of spice. The crispy chicken was good, I only wish I would've know it was fried since I was trying to eat less calories. But I should've asked and the name literally says crispy. I wish I had room for dessert. Came here for lunch and was craving for dumplings. The restaurant was pretty roomy, typical chinese restaurant decor and pretty open floor plan. The server came right away and took our order. I ordered their mixed stemed dumplings and shrimp soup dumplings and they were so good! I also had their dan dan noodle and it just okay. I felt the noodle was too over done. Our second time coming here and it was better than the first. All of their food is hot and fresh. My wife got the chicken pan fried dumplings and I got the pork pan fried dumplings. They were both equally delicious. Dipping them in the chili oil is a must. Vegetable Lo Mein is better than the chicken Lo Mein in our opinion. Found E-Tang for Chinese food in Savannah, obviously most of the city has already known of their presence. The restaurant is tucked away in the corner of a strip mall with a small and discreet sign. The foodies of Savannah are well aware of E-Tang. While viewing the menu, we noted about 10 bags of takeout food orders that never stopped. The restaurant is nicely decorated and had several televisions tuned into sporting events. We were quickly seated without reservations on a Sunday evening. The General Tso chicken and Mongolian beef with sweet onions sounded good to us. The food arrived hot and with generous helpings. The entrees were not soaked in sauce but tasty. The onions with the beef were delicious. We found our food to be good and with a nice flavor. The helpings were robust and of average costs. A true indicator of authenticity was the fact that we were the only Caucasians in the restaurant and many dishes are not commonly found. If you want good Chinese cuisine, check out E-Tang. read more

In terms of taste, this is the one of the worst I have ever tried. I ordered spicy beef soup, spicy wanton, soup dumplings, and garlic cucumber. The result was disastrous. Beef soup was not spicy at all, and it is so sweet. The beef is not thinly sliced, but a chunk a tendons. It lost all the juicy feeling for this famous dish. The beef is like trying to cut down the cost and using roast beef to hand cut into pieces, definitely not machine cut. The wonton is also not spicy. It is simply regular sweet soup with one spoon of chili oil on the table, which is not the right way to do so. The soup dumplings are not white, but brownish. The warp was so thick and not smooth, it feels like orange peels. Usually eating this will use a small dish for vinegar and ginger, but there is no such thing here. The taste is so so. The garlic cucumber is generous, but tasteless. It is simple chopped cucumber with garlic and the flavors are individual and not mixed together long enough. It feels like they just made it when you order, one flavor becomes two, cucumber and garlic along. The chef is from Sichuan, but he has changed the original flavor to locally south, sweet instead of spicy, brownish instead of reddish. If you are looking for non authentic Chinese food, this is the place. If you are looking for good Chinese flavor, this is not the place. I do understand each person has different preference, but this is just not mine. I am looking for authentic flavor instead of American food with Chinese name. The service is ok, friendly and prompt when you need them, but hand writing order will usually miss something like our Thai tea. For me, I don't like the flavor, I probably can make better than the chef. But he can make better for local customers. It is just not my taste, that is all. I came in for Christmas Chinese food. The building is strange, and parking in the shopping center where my directions led me was more like a back entrance. Despite the fact that I didn't see a ton of people coming in, it filled up through the neighboring side street apparently, and I was glad I got in early as this was clearly the place to be on this particular holiday. I'd prefaced my visit by listening to a Tyler Cowen interview on the history of Chinese cuisine, and I figured a restaurant here in the deep south was never going to live up to the high-level thoughts going through my head at the time, but this was quality food. They had an extensive vegetarian selection, and their signature tofu dish came spicy or non-spicy. The spicy (country style) version was the sort of dish I dream about, with a fantastic textural experience highlighted by tofu which is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and some distinctively rubbery wood ear mushrooms and fermented bamboo shoots. There was even a bit of what seemed like tofu skin, which is a different sort of product than the regular soy stuff. They also had an impressive menu of vegetables, and while I considered some of the specials, their basic green beans were fantastic, with lightly charred garlic and dried chilis highlighting a fresh, crisp pile of beans. Hot tea was loose leaf, though not overly strong. My main source of disappointment is that I couldn't order more. One might argue that I could have taken leftovers, and my leftovers were good, but this is the sort of food that is really best fresh off the wok. There is a second location of this restaurant on Hilton Head island which is probably worth checking out. I suspect that whatever the meaning, the place's name may be a pun on "eating" (Chinese language speakers often play with homophones in this way). Service was quick and efficient, and I see no reason to wait for a special holiday to come back here. read more

This spot was a little tucked away, but we are glad we found it! I am usually not a fan of Chinese restaurants because it's hard to find authentic dishes outside of major areas like NYC and LA. I was not disappointed by the experience at E-Tang. Ambience: somewhere in between casual and classy. Cute lanterns and round tables with lazy Susans in addition to booths. Food: We ordered pea shoots and braised tofu (called bean curd on the menu). Both were excellent. The pan fried vegetable dumplings were good too, but I wish they also had a steamed version. Have to know what to order! I have ordered delivery from here and not been happy, that is until I found the better dishes! Here are my go-to dishes: Fried Dumplings - pretty self explanatory. I personally prefer fried to steamed. Even with delivery, they still come crispy. Eggplant with garlic sauce - the eggplant is soft with a very rich sauce. There is so much here, you'll need multiple people or multiple days to eat it! Stir fried string bean - another very large portion! These come spicy so be prepared if you don't like spice. Wanted to get some beignets by the river but every restaurant was full. So chinese food was the next best thing! Service was excellent, quick and helpful. So good! E-tang for the win. Our server was kind, playful and accommodating to our individual requests. Everyone working seemed to work together to tend to guests which made things run smoothly and efficiently. We ordered the pork soup dumplings, veggie fried rice and eggplant add tofu. Big servings and bursting with flavor. My soup dumplings were hot + tasty! Broth was delicious. My veggie fried rice had tons of veggies and egg and the right amount of flavor for my personal preference. The eggplant add tofu was bursting with flavor, hot and my friend said she liked the way the eggplant was cooked but she believes it was a little saucy/ goopy. They didn't charge for tofu and they offered us rice to go for the leftovers. There was enough for a whole other meal which we ate a day later. Ordered the spicy chicken and extra spicy and the dish was bland and tasteless with just the hint of maybe cumin which is weird because it is not cumin chicken. The combo green bean/eggplant was also tasteless and the heat on the wok wasn't hot enough so the whole dish lacked any kind of aroma. I don't think I've ever given a Chinese restaurant that isn't an American Chinese restaurant 2 stars before but this one earned it. Giving it a 2 stars because the wait help was nice. If you are looking for authentic spicy western Chinese food, this is not the place for you. read more
