Great quality-much better than Starbucks and you can taste the difference with the first sip. Everyone who works here is incredibly friendly, going out of their way to make sure you have a good experience. The service is prompt and attentive every single time. I've never been a big fan of Peet's until recently. This is contributed by 3 factors: 1. Received a gift card from the boss, which provided the open invitation to go there. 2. Unhappy with Starbucks for taking away free soymilk and syrup for their gold star members. 3. Tired of drinks from Starbucks, it is time for a break from this relationship. After several trips to the Peet's Coffee in Encinitas, I can honestly say I am a fan, and here's why: 1. Great, friendly service! I've came here during different hours of the day, and they have a warm, sincere attitude each of my visits. 2. Really enjoyed every drink I've gotten from them! I tried white chocolate mocha, matcha latte, and Godiva dark chocolate mocha. I really loved the Godiva drink but unfortunately it is a Holiday seasonal special. The matcha has this toasted taste to it, much more refined than the green tea latte I get from SB. The white chocolate mocha isn't overly sweet, and again, better than SB. 3. Prices are comparable to SB. So why wouldn't I want to take money to Peet's for better quality drinks? Lastly, I tried their Simply Oatmeal which is just like the Perfect Oatmeal if not better. The Simply Oatmeal comes with toasted almonds and dried wild blueberries. They also have a huge selection of baked goods, which was hard to shy away from because they look so much more appealing than anything I see at SB. The only thing I dislike about the place (and totally out of their control) is the location, being tucked away in the corner of the Trader Joe's and Ralph's plaza. It isn't exactly right off the route I normally take to go to work, but I can make it work if I leave the house early enough. This place is just the best. What a concept. A coffee chain, where the coffee....TASTES REALLY GREAT. Service is awesome, and while this parking lot can make you want to pull a Michael Douglas in Falling Down, it's worth it for a cup of iced coffee. Even if you brew at home, this shop has a really amazing selection of beans for all walks of coffee life. And they'll grind it for you, but you should own your own grinder. C'mon. Sincerely, I wish they would replace every single on of those you-know-who-i'm-talking-about chain stores where the coffee tastes like someone put a fresh cigarette out in it before putting it on the bar, with a Peet's. Came here and and they were offering a seasonal cinnamon hazelnut latte special. I order it (around 10:30am) and they were out of the hazelnut. I ended up ordering a cinnamon vanilla latte half sweetened "for here" so it would be in a mug. I also ordered a walnut muffin. My drink I got from them was to-go, fully sweetened, and I got my muffin 15 minutes after I ordered. I'm not a coffee snob but somehow my whole order wasn't communicated very clearly. I also overheard another customer telling the barista she ordered hers "for here" to be in a mug as well. However the one thing I must say is all the staff there were very friendly. They all looked like they enjoyed working there and were very pleasant to interact with. I was there for about an hour working on my lap top (fyi WiFi is terrible) and they would go from no line to 10 ppl in line out of nowhere. They worked very fast and efficient. Like most folks have posted, we are lucky to have Peet's keeping it real in the coffee chain world. Th crew working here is knowledgable and thorough... and the coffee/espresso is super good. MUSING ALERT: If you dont know the history of Starbucks and wonder how tthey got their bright "ideas"... look it up sometime. Somehow it reminds me of the scene in the John Adam's movie series with Paul Giamatti. This is a nice coffee shop tucked in the back of the shopping area next to Trader Joe's. I was there on Friday afternoon so it wasn't busy. It had nice sitting spaces, including the outdoor sitting area. It was a good place to relax and do some reading. With the free WiFi, you can do some works here and no one would bother you. Coffee here was good although I have yet to try the coconut white chocolate mocha, which I had heard rave reviews. Peet's coffee existed even before Starbucks so it has a long history of serving dark roasted gourmet coffee. I enjoyed my Mayan Mocha today. Will try their coconut mocha next time. The baristas were friendly. All in all, I liked my experience and will come back again. read more

Every time I come to the Peet's location here in Encinitas I'm greeted with quality customer service, a smile, and my cup of coffee. Even if there is a line the coffee and sandwiches is speedy and they rock! Consistent coffee prep also means that they're drinks are always good. Seriously not had a bad one yet. This is a standard Peet's, and you'll find their typical selection of coffees, teas, and pastries. Like all Peet's in this area, there are no cooked or microwaved foodstuffs. This particular Peet's has a real strip-mall feel, and it's stuck in the back corner. The only advantage is it's close proximity to the Encinitas Trader Joe's. If I were going to this particular location, I would probably visit Isabelle's French Pastry shop in the same mall. If I really want a Peet's, I would head up to Bressi Ranch, about 10 minutes north, for the excellent Peet's up there (also, coincidentally, adjacent to a Trader Joe's). read more

I discovered Peet's about 6 months after moving back to SD last year, as I had to get on the 56 at Camino Del Sur on my way to work in the mornings. Little did I know i'd be getting the best crafted latte I'd ever had. Then a couple months after, they opened one down the street from my house in Encinitas at the end of '10. Having worked at Starbucks- Yes, i know, shitty for 4 years ('02-'06 in Scottsdale, AZ) I know my coffees and a good drink from a bad drink. I was immediatly impressed by the high quality of the drinks they serve. I haven't been a fan of Starbucks basically since I quit, and wont go there because the Baristas vary so much in the way they prepare the drinks. The 3 Peet's locations I've been to (Encinitas, 4S Ranch and La Jolla) have all served very consistent drinks and know how to foam milk to the proper consistency. I used to be a Coffee Bean girl (never liked Starbucks) but Coffee Bean has been a huge letdown lately so I decided to give Peets a try. Well now I wish I would have done this before, they are so good. Customer service has been really great every time I have gone in. The Pumpkin latte is not over-sweetened and love that the staff makes your drinks promptly so you can get in and out. The breakfast maple chicken sausage on flatbread is now one of my favorites. They are right down the street from me and very happy about this. Check them out you will not regret it. read more

They have some great coffee and pastry items! The banana bread is and all time favorite and I also love the medium roast Big Bang coffee. They have cold brew options and the dark chocolate mocha is insane!!! The girl making coffees was about as rude as possible. Brown hair with glasses. I ordered three mochas. She set one on the counter without a lid. I said to her ," ma'am those are to go." She gave me a dirty look and pointed to the pile of lids and condiments near the door and said, they are all to go." Then knowing I was going to put a lid on my drinks completely overfilled one drink so when I put a lid on it it would spill all over. Then caught her laughing about it. Really great aesthetic but seriously understaffed. We went at about 2:30 on a Tuesday and there was a pretty long line. Only two people were working in the front: one making coffee and one at register. Had to wait about 20 mins for our drinks after we already waited to order. I decided to check out Peets since it's just a few stores over from my work, and I am always very happy! The customer service is always great no matter what time I come in, and everyone gets the drinks out quickly. I've been here with a line basically out the door and I still get my drink in a reasonable time. My favorite is they have the option to make your drinks completely dairy free, which can be hard at most places if you like the blended drinks. They have a coconut whipped cream option that is my new favorite! I will definitely keep coming back. read more

I feel like Starbucks is totally dropping the ball. They didn't have condensed milk. Nuff said. But Peet always hooks me up with a nice espresso with condensed milk over ice! Simple yet I can't get enough of it! Something about the thickness/sweetness of the milk just gives the espresso a nice earthy taste while combatting the bitterness of the coffee. Haven't had it? I don't know if I came in on a bad day, but the coffee I got tasted awful! Like the kind of coffee you would get from Seven Eleven (with the detergent like stench). Ive been to other Peet's and had their coffee and espresso drinks and have liked them in the past, so I attribute the quality of the drinks to this location. Staff was super nice and polite and the atmosphere was relaxing. They have classical music playing on low and lots of tables and room. But the number one bummer (aside from the coffee) is that they give you one password for the wifi, per one check. And it only lasts an hour, if you have to stay connected longer, you have to buy more of their drinks... really??? You're being cheap with your wifi! Also they warned me that the internet can cut out at any moment, and I happen to be working on grad school applications online... Overall, this place was really disappointing (But could easily be improved!) I wont be coming back. Not to mention the parking in the plaza sucks... read more

Initially I was happy to see Peet's Coffee opening up just two blocks from my house. Wow, what a disappointment. For starters the coffee tasted really poor. Additionally, the wifi access is only available for an hour per purchase. The staff was bland; no smile, no welcome no service. I'm not sure how hard it is to say "good morning" or "how's it going" while showing some teeth? Maybe frowning is just easier or cooler, who knows. The coffee and food here is excellent, much better than Starbucks. The staff, however, are incredibly slow to take your order and listen to what you are saying. I have the simplest order ever: Black iced coffee. I have to specify to them that I want "No room" and other Bullshit. There are 2-3 people working here when there is a line of over 5 people. Worse, the staff take their sweet time with each order. Last time I was left awkwardly standing in the only line waiting for someone to do I don't even know what. Then I was directed to another line for no apparent reason. The Thai food restaurant across the street is literally faster than this place! read more
