Been my go-to coffee since 2017 and I'm glad they allowed us to do the ordering on the app and easy pick up during Covid. They're sticking true to their specialties and not giving into the trendy drinks, which I love that they do. The ambiance is chill and nice art in the corner with plenty of seating indoors and out. Been coming here for years since we moved to the area 8 years ago. Transplants from Bay Area where Philz began. So we're loyal and will always come back to Philz even the Encinitas location no matter how rude and unapologetic the staff is. One woman in particular is the worst. By this time we should be on a first name basis (I know her name, she doesn't bother to know ours). I put up with because the other staff are at least decent or try to be--hence 3 stars and not 1. But this woman not at all. Not helpful with the app. Gets annoyed when THEY make the drink wrong when we point it out as if our fault. Just overall unpleasant. We see her be friendly with other staff and customers, just not us regulars. Maybe she has something against my family member who used to work there some years ago. This is pretty standard with other Philz Coffee. A slightly smaller space with less seating. Google maps also takes you a couple blocks away and you don't even know exactly where it is! I circled around and found it. Parking lot is teeny tiny and the area is a busy area in Encinitas. Not the most accessible place. I would rather try coming here than another round of corporate coffee. I usually get the mint mojito coffee, it's unique and tasty. Great coffee individually brewed for each order. You need to wait for at least 10 mins to get yours done. And it's totally worth it. PhilZ started up in the Bay Area and has been a sensation since. It was one of those days where we needed an extra pick me upper, and most of the local coffee shops were closed. We decided to stop by Philz's. The baristas at the counter were very friendly. The coffee was a bit on the weaker side, but still good. We ordered the Tantalizingly Turkish from the bold and bittersweet section, but it wasn't bold at all. Tasted more like a breakfast blend. There was a hint of cardamom flavor. We also got the Iced Gingersnap. This one was actually stronger in coffee flavor. The drink was good and tasted like autumn in a cup! Interesting ................... Philz Coffee: hold the latte. This is a pour-over coffee restaurant. No lattes are made here. They are a true coffee shop (check out their coffee menu). On their website they have a section dedicated to sustainability and responsible sourcing, and their steps over the years for maintaining their coffee ethics. I liked the coffee I selected. Also more interesting, was that they recommended that I taste it before I left the counter. If I didn't like it, they'd adjust it for me - again interesting ............... Came to Philz Coffee in Encinitas for the first time a few days ago. Tried their Minit Mojito which has been getting rave reviews on Yelp and YouTube. I can honestly say the reviews are spot on. Decided to go for a large creamy and sweet Mint Mojito. I enjoyed the drink so much that I took my time and savored each and every sip. It was rich and flavorful and the mint was so nice. After finishing the cup two hours later, I noticed the ample amount of mint that was at the bottom of the cup. You really get your money's worth. Today I returned and after watching videos on YouTube, I decided to order a large iced Philtered Soul (hazelnut flavor and chocolate) and had it with medium cream and sweetener in place of sugar. Another winner of a drink. Rich flavor and smooth taste. I am now a convert...goodbye Starbucks!! I have to drive a little further to get there, but it's worth it. Just make sure that if you're running short on time, place a mobile order on their app and the drink will be ready when you arrive, allowing you to skip the line to place your order in-store. Philz serves good quality pourovers with many roast and infused flavor options. They even have an iced option for the hot days. We ordered the Tantalizing Turkish and the Philtered Soul -- both iced and with no milk or added sweeteners. Both were delicious and didn't need those extra to make the coffee taste good! Love that. Coffee at its' purest. They don't skimp on A/C (thank you, Philz!). Parking seems ample with street and neighborhood parking available. I didn't have a good experience at this location. My order wasn't called loud enough. I get it, it can get busy, and the work environment can feel stressful. Please just call the orders out louder. My iced drink had been sitting there without my knowledge and I was able to taste the dilution from the melted ice. A small complaint i know -- but Nothin worse than paying for something and not getting it. The good news is that upon my request, the employees were able to remake my drink. The bad news? We loved Philz in SF. We were so excited they came here but a las it's not the same. Worst part is using their app to order ahead of time and it always taking longer than they estimated by a lot. I'm impressed that Philz makes every cup custom rather than press a button and out she pours. The coffee was excellent and the blueberry muffin was OMG good, but $9 for a medium cup and a muffin seems a little steep. There are SO many choices as part of the custom experience. For me, it was overwhelming. I asked them to leave a little room for cream, and they gave me the cream on the side so I could add the amount I wanted. I like that idea, but they filled the cup to the brim with the coffee, and there was no place for me to pour some off. The cream was so thick that I could only pour in a little at a time, drink some coffee, then add a little more cream, and repeat. So while I really enjoyed the coffee and muffin, the overall experience took more work than I'd anticipated. read more
