    Inside Pebbles

For my Brazilian people in the Bay, this place is BRAZILIAN OWNED and they make their own malagueta house sauce which is actually perfect with their empadas. They even have vegeterian empadas with palmito (heart of palm) and cheese, as well as tomate seco (sundried tomato) and cheese. Don't miss out on their variety of Açaí bowls named after Fútbol's greats like Marta and Neymar. This is a family run business of lovely people who make you feel right at home! The space is cozy, and really close to bart, or perfect for a snack after a hike through the Glen Park Canyon!

A first impression is so important and not just on a blind date. I went on a blind date when I was a confused teenager and still remember how she used a toothpick to clean her teeth. And she wasn't even finished with her Happy Meal. But I digress as I thought this Glen Park business just served coffee and other generic lunch items that any number of coffee spots do all over the city. However, what I wasn't aware of until my third visit was that it's really a Brazilian cafe in disguise. Gee, I didn't think I needed a mural of Carmen Miranda to let me know that, and I was perfectly content with the Low Fat Mocha I've ordered on my previous visits (photo: https://bit.ly/3L7mmv0). The Brazilian part of the menu is hidden under the Featured Items section and more prominently in the wide variety of Brazilian acai bowls they offer. The featured items include dim sum-like items like coxinha (shredded chicken and cheese stuffed in a deep-fried dough) and empadas (chicken and vegetarian pie options). On my latest visit, I actually tried the $3 Pao de Queijo (Cheese Bread) which got me a pair of piping hot balls with gooey cheese inside (photo: https://bit.ly/3rHdowx). I also tried the $8.50 Pebbles Salad, which was a nice plateful of freshness with Mixed greens, cucumber, tomato, bacon, turkey, hard-boiled egg, and avocado slices (photo: https://bit.ly/3OtupnE). It was accompanied by an Italian dressing which it frankly didn't need. It took three visits, but I finally know there's more than coffee served here. FOOD - 4 stars...tasty stuff with a Brazilian accent AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...honestly looks like a coffee spot to me but at least with tables SERVICE - 4.5 stars...always friendly and forthcoming TOTAL - 4 stars...coming back for more Brazilian treats as well as the coffee RELATED - Exploring the Outer Mission? COVID-19 TAKEOUT Some people get their panties wet with the new new, the hot and new, instagrammable walls, opulent chandeliers, aesthetics, and/or hype. *RAISES HAND* So, we may ignore/overlook local businesses without the photogenic plates and drinks, and aesthetic goals. I'm guilty of this. I live nearby and for years, I've passed by Pebbles Cafe but never stepped foot inside because I thought it was your run-of-the-mill, neighborhood cafe. I had no clue they serve Brazilian Salgadinhos until I recently saw them listed on a 3rd party delivery app. After my nearby appointment, I popped into Pebbles Cafe to grab some Brazilian Salgadinhos. They're offering takeout, delivery, and dine-in (several small tables). No outdoor seating. M E N U * Brazilian Salgadinhos (kept in warmer): Coxinha, Kibe, Empada, and Pão de Queijo * Açaí bowls * Bagels * American breakfast and lunch sandwiches * Salads * Smoothies * Coffee & Tea B R A Z I L I A N S A L G A D I N H O S ***Items listed from fav to least fav * Coxinha: Brazilian Chicken Croquette ($4) Best item of the four! The coxinha was still warm by the time I got home and settled in. The fried dough was crunchy and generously filled with a creamy, savory chicken filling. Delicious and satisfying. GET THIS! * Chicken Empada ($4) Baked Brazilian "empanada" with a similar filling to the Coxinha but with the addition of corn and olives. Pair it with a small salad at home, and you have yourself a meal. If you're extra hangry, two empadas should do. Beef empada also available. * Pão de Queijo: Brazilian Cheese Bread (2 pc - $2.50) While they were still warm, I ate one in the car before driving home. Hard and sturdy crust with a mochi-like chewy center. Good salty cheese flavor but denser than my preference. Available by pairs only. * Kibe: Brazilian Beef Croquette ($4) Got the last one in the warmer so I was happy about that until I tasted it. I think it had been sitting in the warmer for awhile, as the bulgur exterior was hard and ground beef filling was dry. I'm sure if I came before noon, it would have been fresher. Make sure to ask for hot sauce for dipping! S E R V I C E The guy who helped me wasn't the friendliest but hey, it was a Monday. I'm kicking myself for sleeping on Pebbles Cafe all these years. It's a nice gem in the neighborhood that's worth the pit stop for Brazilian Salgadinhos!

Ok.. Quick walk in Glen Park to raise the low blood sugar. Stopped in somewhere new because I saw they had some pre-made little pastry type dishes. OMG...ordered the Beef & spices little savory treat (Keeby) .... EXCELLENT! Sandwich..I'd pass on the future....stick with bagel or beef pastry nice place to grab a late breakfast or lunch. Thank you for the great service. In appreciation, Sharine

Pebbles is so amazing! I got a Turkey, avocado, tomato bagel and added plain cream cheese. It's one of the best bagels I've ever had. The cream cheese was cold while the bagel was freshly toasted so the flavors and temperatures of the ingredients contrasted really well. The bagel did feel a little small, but with some coffee or a drink, I think it'd be really filling. I kind of preferred that it's not super gigantic or hard to eat and it's a manageable portion even though I could've eaten a little bit more. Overall, it was really good and the ingredients tasted really fresh. Also, the cashier is so kind and respectful whenever I've talked to them. The service is really fast and speedy and I feel like the price point is comparable to other bagel places, and a lot cheaper than ordering a bagel online through door dash or Grubhub. Definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area.

You can ask for more honey on top if they circle back around. One of the best side dishes! 5/5 - Key Lime Pie - Soft and sweet! You'll enjoy choosing this as a dessert to top off your dinner experience. It might not look like a big slice, but you'll still find it quite filling! 5/5 - Cheesecake Brulee - Same with the key lime pie. The strawberry sauce was not too sweet or strong. Looks very aesthetic and also comes with great flavor. 5/5 - Caramelized Pineapple Old Fashioned - The strongest tasting cocktail that we tried. Still tastes like the classic old fashioned you've had but definitely one to sip while you chat at dinner. Highly recommend this drink! 5/5 - Premium Caipirinha (Traditional) - A great lime-flavored cocktail that is also fun to drink at lunch or dinner. If you like Cachaca, I recommend trying this out! It's not a cocktail you typically get at other bars. 5/5 - Yellowbird - Fruity flavor profiles complement the Blanco well and the design of the drink matches its name. The interior is honestly gorgeous. There's a lot of seating and fun decor all around, and it feels like a place you'd want to sit and hang out for a while. The menu is displayed on the wall and offers Brazilian style cafe items like cheese breads, sandwiches, pastries, and specialty drinks like matcha, coffee, and seasonal beverages. Right away though, the service felt off. The workers came across pretty uninviting and seemed more focused on chatting with each other than interacting with customers, which is always a red flag. The prices are also pretty steep, which might be because of the location. I ordered the pistachio matcha and the Brazilian cream cheese sandwich. I don't like my matcha too sweet because I want to actually taste the matcha, so I asked for less sugar. Instead, I was told they'd just add less pistachio cream. The drink ended up being really disappointing. It tasted super flavorless and almost watery. The pistachio cream itself was nice and had real pistachio pieces on top, but it didn't save the drink. For almost $10, it just didn't make sense, especially when their regular matcha is around $7.60. Also, there were no prices listed for seasonal drinks, so you don't really know what you're paying until checkout. The cheese sandwich was good and warm, filled with that Brazilian cream cheese. It was enjoyable, but not something I'd go out of my way for again. It's about the size of a McChicken and priced at $7.60, which feels a little high considering there's no protein, just cream cheese. Overall, I'm not sure if this is just a tourist spot because of its location near the piers, but I left more confused than satisfied.

To the left of where you stand they have refrigerated/ frozen goods that you can buy to take home which I thought was pretty neat. Instead of an açaí bowl, I ordered the Ipanema- (I love the song Girl from Ipanema, but I digress...it consisted of açaí, banana, and strawberries) I chose to have almond milk as the base instead of coconut and I loved it! The açaí berries was more dominant than the other ingredients, but I didn't mind because I never eat açaí. I think Cafe de Casa also used to make them, but I haven't been in a couple of years. There's also shelves of imported, Brazilian grocery items on the left wall, which is pretty cool if you're looking for more specialized goods that aren't typically available in your regular grocery store. There's a handful of tables and chairs, but not a lot of seating otherwise. The pão de queijo was still warm in the bag when we picked them up. Their version was too salty and dense for my taste; the pão de queijo of my memories from that spot on Balboa Ave was bouncier and airier than The Brazilian Spot's (they also had fun flavors like guava). If I *really* get a hankering for pão de queijo again, I might come back, but otherwise, the search continues.

The coliflor was okay. It was a little dense for me. The Hueso Asado was scrumptious, buttery and full of flavor, but half of a bone marrow was too small for an appetizer and only served with 4 small thin crostini. For entree we had the Ojo de Bife and Malbec short ribs. The Ojo de Bife which is the rib eye was delicious and grilled perfectly. The meat was not as tender, but the meat itself had a lot of flavor. The short ribs were excellent! Very tender and scrumptious. I would order this again. They should bring back the beef tongue or Lengua. I heard it is a must try. Anyway, we had a great time. I thought the stew would be a soup, but it was a steamed piece of yucca, which was not bad. I learned what it was after ordering it. Also, yucca flour is literal flour that is in a small ramekin that you would sprinkle on all your other food items. I am pointing this out to anyone who is a first-timer at a Brazilian restaurant. I experienced, got schooled, and passing the knowledge to you. As the previous reviewer said, the pot of chili in oil on the table is fire, so eat in moderation. The pao de queijo at Fogo De Chao is far superior which is not saying much, but at the very least, the famed Brazilian BBQ restaurant chain offers their bread gratis. The two entrees we ordered were the seafood stew and half rotisserie chicken. I'll admit the chicken was wonderfully cooked with every morsel succulent and juicy. But, the bed of rice was a tad too overcooked and the scant vegetables left the cohesive whole disappointing. Again, the seafood stew was underwhelming and the pilaf-esque rice seemed to make up the bulk of the "stew."
