I was looking for a quick lunch as I was buzzing through San Francisco, and happened upon Ty Sandwich. This is definitely going down as one of the less favorable lunches I've had in San Francisco. I ordered a Thai iced tea, and this has to be one of the worst Thai teas I've ever had. It lacked everything. It did not taste like Thai tea, I can't even begin to figure out what it was, but it was not worth paying for let alone drinking. The grilled pork banh mi was calling my name. I really wish that it hadn't. Allegedly they make their sandwiches traditionally, but I could not taste the pate. The bread was lightly toasted so it had that nice crunch and that was the best part of the sandwich. Grilled pork was nicely seasoned, but it was super chewy and tough, which made it difficult to even attempt to enjoy the sandwich. One of my favorite Viet sandwich places! I've been coming here since college and the food quality is always consistent, bread is nice and crunchy, and the service is great. This is just a hole in the wall restaurant so there isn't really much seating, but easy to just grab the food and go! My favorites are the combo, grilled pork, and lemongrass beef. The shop is very small, with just a counter for ordering and a few high chairs by the window for seating. The service is straightforward, not much to say about it. I usually call in for my orders and it'll be ready within 10 mins. My usual order is the combination sandwich with extra jalapenos. The sandwich is packed with meat and veggies, with the mayo and pate perfectly balanced, and the bread toasted to perfection. I'm also a huge fan of their vietnamese iced coffee! I used to live around the corner 10 years ago and I was so psyched to have a bahn mi spot nearby. The bahn mi can be a little dry but I would just ask for extra sauce. Combo is the most solid choice. This is becoming my favorite spot in the city for banh mi. It is relatively inexpensive compared to a lot of places and is actually delicious. The fancy pork with pate was on point because the creaminess of the pate balanced so well with the pickled carrots and the bread. I used to love this place especially when they first opened. I was happy as their business got bigger (opening a pho place next door). But after years of not being able to come, I got surprised how everything had changed. Unfortunately, their Pho place had closed. It is slightly sweet marinated pork with crunchy shredded carrot, jalapeño, veggies on a toasted soft bun. Although I've tried the different flavors of banh mi, I'd say my favorite one is the lemongrass beef one. As for the boba drinks, they're good, but not my first choice of place to get drinks. I got the lychee milk tea and mango milk tea one time, but they tasted almost identical. I couldn't tell the difference. I'd be willing to give the drinks another chance because the photos do look good, but I'd get a different flavor instead. I ordered 12 banh mi for a party from Ty Sandwich and they made it super easy to make an order and was very accommodating. I called them 2-3 days before and asked if they can cut up the sandwiches in half and put in the tray for me, like catering style!
