This is my solid, staple dim sum spot when I'm grabbing a quick bite. I usually come here for the classics and it's been a reliable stop for years. I stopped by around 2pm today hoping to get shrimp chive dumplings, but they only offer the deep-fried version here and not the steamed or pan-seared ones. My second choice was har gow, but they didn't have any available at the time. I'm guessing it was because it was a bit late in the day and rainy, and once they sell out, they don't make more. I ended up ordering the pork siu mai instead. The inside is small, like a typical walk-in Chinatown dim sum spot. There are round tables with seating inside, though I've never actually seen anyone use them. The siu mai was very yummy, and that's coming from a dim sum annihilator. If you're looking for cheap and great-value dim sum and Chinese food, this hidden gem in SF is definitely worth a try. I have the Steamed rice with Pork ribs and black beans sauce (豉汁排骨蒸饭). The portion was big and it was really delicious. They have good dim sums too. I ordered Siu Mai and Shark Fin dumplings. The Shark Fin dumplings here are NOT made with shark fins. They are made of Pork, Shrimp, mushrooms, Vermicelli and vegetables. Both of them have good portion and taste very good! Staffs are friendly and they serve and pack everything fast. This place was very crowded and loud on a Sunday morning. It was insanely hard to find parking. Unlike other reviews, the woman who helped me was loud and rude and could not calculate numbers. They don't give you a receipt here so everything is done by hand. They use a large calculator to calculate the amount of money you owe them and you don't get a receipt. My total came to 44.10 on her calculator and the staff woman insisted .10 meant 20 cents. I didn't argue with her and just gave her the money. I have no idea if I overpaid by more than 10 cents. Prices are good compared to nicer restaurants (I would have paid twice in Noe Valley where I was originally planning for dumplings). I came here today because they have stuffed rice rolls which is something I had growing up in big Chinese dim sum restaurants and most places don't offer the stuffed rice roll. The classic stuffed rice rolls are shrimp or beef. I ordered 4 plates of rice rolls and the beef was on point and tasted almost exactly like the ones I had growing up so I was pleased. The soy sauce was sweet and perfect with the stuffed rice rolls. I also ordered shrimp dumplings and chive/shrimp dumplings and both were tasty and again, tasted like ones from more expensive restaurants. I also ordered three egg tarts (1.25 each) and one custard bun. The egg tarts were crispy and had a good egg flavor. The custard bun was filled with eggy custard. They ran out of the egg yolk buns (more creamy) and out of sesame balls too. All their sweets were excellent and fresh. I also ordered 2 orders of their sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaves (one order is two miniature sticky rice wrapped in lotus) which was the only thing we didn't like. Some of the rice was dry and old and they come in different sizes and due to their small size, hard to release from their wrapping and flavor was inconsistent. Everything else was good. It appears that they have a very good chef and if that chef is ever gone, I wouldn't come back. I assume their chef is part owner. The woman who helped me was one of the older ladies and she was rude and loud. She argued that 44.10 on her calculator was 44 dollars and 20 cents. I will come back for the food but hope she doesn't serve me next time. The general demographic here was old Chinese men. The entire restaurant had about 12 men over 70 eating rice porridge and drinking coffee. There was a lot of loud Cantonese spoken. I have never been to Excelsior district but has only passed by and this place is legitimately a 4th Chinatown (outside of the main Chinatown next to downtown SF, Sunset Chinatown and Richmond Chinatown). There are tons of Chinese restaurants and even a cannabis dispensary (odd place to be). Check your total before paying as they do calculate the prices in their head and don't give receipts. I ordered the shrimp rice noodle roll, pork ribs, chicken paw, shrimp and chive dumplings and Siu Mai, for about $32 take away. Cash only. I only saw a couple of steamers outside, and most of the items I ordered were out of the steamers. It took me less than 15 mins to get home and the food was already cold. The shrimp rice noodle roll had really small shrimps and the roll was thick. The pork ribs could be more tender. The other items were just ok. I would reorder the chicken paw and shrimp and chive dumplings next time and give the other items a try. The lady taking my order was nice and patient taking my order in broken Chinese. my local dimsum restaurant! i grew up eating here, it brings back so much nostalgia!!! i love the food, such an underrated spot here in SF. i usually get siu mai, har gow, chow fan, all the basic entrees. if you were a broke student like me, this place has the best portion sizes and cheap enough to buy two meals for a day. most non-cantonese speakers have a harder time with staff, which affects their service. pretty understandable-- but i love the staff here, i've always been treated kindly (but i also speak canto so my experience is much smoother!) i havent actually sat down and ate here in a long time, i usually take the food togo and go study somewhere or eat at home so i cant say much about the ambiance! overall, i am biased... i love this place lol! read more

Low key location with incredible Dim Sum. I am originally from Hong Kong and I felt like I was instantly transported back. The authenticity of the Dim Sum is reminiscent of nostalgic Cantonese cuisine. Love their rice dishes, bread and rice rolls as well. The Milk Tea is strong and rather sweet, but again very authentic. I like to get a ton of items to go, and enjoy the extra leftovers the next day. I usually ask them to shove it all in one box so it's easier to carry. Price for quantity and quality is incredible. This place is suuuuuuper cheap but the quality isn't too good. We got a bunch of buns to share (bbq pork, custard), sticky rice, shumai (too gristly), and pork/chive dumplings. The fillings were mostly good but not enough inside across the board i.e. too much breading or rice with each order. FWIW I liked the custard filling the best. stopped by for some dimsum last week. staff were friendly, and helpful with my order even though there was some language barrier. I just show them a pictures of what i want from the other yelpers and they get them for me. I am not even sure what the pork patty with salted fish and veggies over rice was called, but I just show them a picture and they got it for me. It was only $7, but their was alot of food, and everything seem pretty healthy. The salted fish wasn't strong enough on the funky and salty flavor for me though, but it was not bad, i enjoyed it. their dimsum stuff however were really good. I like their bbq pork bun the best, it had plenty of meat, it was a sweet and savory flavor combinations, but wasn't too sweet and more on the salty which I like. their hakgao and siu mai were also pretty good. don't exactly remember how much I spent on the food, but everything were pretty affordable, the portion was huge, and most importantly the dimsum was pretty good. read more

San Bruno Ave is full of mom-and-pop Chinese and Mexican eateries, grocery stores, and boba shops turning out simple eats, and Ming Hui Dim Sum is definitely a highlight! This simple cafe offers all the classic steamed buns, dumplings, baked goods, and more. I started with the Combintion Bun (or "Taishan Big Bao" in Chinese), which was a massive steamed bread with a filling of chicken, egg, shiitake mushroom, and Chinese sausage. The pumpkin bun (mantou) was a steamed bread that had an orange color from the pumpkin but tasted rather flavorless. The sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf contained a tasty filling of ground pork in a sweet and savory sauce, but my favorite dish was the shrimp rice noodle (chang fen). The steamed rice rolls had a firm, chewy texture and were wrapped around juicy, plump shrimp, and they went perfectly with the sweet soy sauce that came on the side! I noticed that the sticky rice in lotus leaf and the shrimp rice noodles were both steamed in individual bamboo steamers, rather than being cooked en masse, and this really made a difference in the quality of the final product. And I simply could not believe the value for the food here--everything we had came to under $10! read more

Covid review: I was in the area and was craving dim sum. Mom and pop joint, cash only, I'm now so full, I look like a human sized burrito. We got the dim sum staples: shu mai (these were the best! So big!), Shrimp har gow and shrimp cheurn fun (wrappers were too thick though). Then topped it off with steamed custard buns (very doughy but super moist with good custard flavor) and dan tats (they're no GGB but still good). All in all, $13.50 for the lot. As for the space, tables block off full entry to the restaurant, so there's enough space to stay 6ft away even if others are already inside. Delicious classic dim sum at a reasonable price. They're not doing sit down right now but you can just tell them what you would like and they pack it up for you. Service is great and the employees (2 ladies behind the counter) are super friendly. They have menus both in English and Chinese which is helpful and they understand both languages. You can get a plethora of food for two people for about $25 dollars including shrimp dumpling, siu mai, sticky rice, bbq pork buns, and pork spareribs with rice noodle. Would recommend this place for people around the bay area who are looking for a simple, delicious dim sum meal without the price of eating in a full service restaurant. This place is so awesome, it's so nice knowing there are nearby restaurants serving pastries and dim sum items. Ming Hui (明輝) is one of the three restaurants in this area serving these items. If you looking for good pastries without waiting, come here. This means the time spent waiting for a table. Most of the time, tables and chairs are available for anyone eating in. The pork siu mai and shrimp dumplings are fresh and delicious. Overall, positive experience and good food. Also, the facility is clean and staff members are friendly. Found this place after a kids hoop game at CCSF. Came in after the prime dim sum times around 1:30. Short lived, variety was limited due to the time. We had har gow, siu mai, shrimp rice rolls, chive dumplings, chicken and rice, pork riblet rice, sesame balls, and a few more items. Overall the food was tasty. The rice dishes were good. One of the best dim sums I've been to! I loved the siu mai the most as it literally melted in my mouth. The chicken feet was easy to eat because it was supper soft so it was easy to remove the bones from the feet. The chive dumpling was also fantastic! Most of this tastes better than expected. I especially like the glutinous fried balls with minced pork inside. It's always shockingly inexpensive and the service is really one of the friendliest of any dim sum bakery I've ever experienced. The ladies who work there say hi and compliment my toddler daughter and the young man who works there often gives me spot on suggestions to broaden my dim sum knowledge. One interesting observation--I always see at least a small line. I think many Chinese people are loyal to this place too. The turnover for the food is fast and good. My only complaint is the parking is a bit tough. But at least with covid times they have special take out parking in the lot just before? Maybe a spot will be open there. But if you have to park a bit away, it's very competitive. I sorta wish someone would throw the box of dim sum into my car as i drive by! If they did that, i'd give it 6 stars! read more

I haven't been here in a very long time and was very disturbed by what I saw today. I stopped by this morning to order two dishes of dim sum to go, only to realize that they gave me the wrong items when I got home. I called to let them know what happened and returned an hour later to get the right items. As soon as I walked through the door, one worker saids to another "Oh, here he comes" in a very unflattering tone, not knowing that I was Cantonese speaking as well. They didn't offered an apology and were dismissive. The most disturbing part was witnessing what they did with the dim sum I returned. Instead of throwing them away, they put them back in the steaming trays to sell to another customer. To sum up my experience: They messed up my order, talked shit about about me not knowing that I spoke their language, and resold the food I returned to another customer. read more

I was willing to give this dim sum/take out restaurant the benefit of the doubt during my first two visits to this place. But my third visit really confirmed it for me. Firstly, this place is just like most Chinese dim sum/take out restaurant. They used to have inside seating but due to the pandemic, they're no longer permitted. This place is known for their "spare ribs over rice" dish. It's by far their most ordered food. Also,as is typical with Chinese places like these, the people that work here don't speak English. On my previous visits, every time I ordered the server/cashier would answer the phone while taking my order. She would then take the phone order, write it down, key it on the cash register and then take that receipt to the counter after which she walks into the kitchen to presumably give it to the cook. After she returns, she picks up the phone again to verify that the order is correct. All of this took about 15 minutes, which might not seem a lot of time, but if you're on your lunch break, it feels like an eternity. And when she does come back to taking my order the phone rings again..........arghhhhh!,,,,,,, Again, to reiterate, this is not the first time that it has happened to me. You really don't see much good customer service from Chinese establishments but at Ming Hui Dim Sum there is nothing but good service. I visited the Ming Hui Dim Sum yesterday with my father. We ordered 4 boxes of Cha Siu Bao and each box had different quantity of the bao. The young guy helped us box it and at the end he said they just came out of the steamer so I'm going to bag them individually. I"m like....wow this is good service. Most Chinese BBQ deli or Dim Sum spots would NEVER in a million years offer this service. Small things like this matter to me and to many other folks. He didn't charge us extra for the bags nor did he charge extra for the boxes. I recommend folks to give this place a try. Friendly ladies and the younger guy at the dim sum shop. Now lets talk about the food. Their har gow is a good size and is tasty. my 3 year old son can eat 5. Then theirs their sui mai. Oh may..it barely fits in my mouth! And it's very tasty as well. Good price for decent quality. I would give them 3.5 if I had the choice. There aren't many dim sum options in the south part of the City and not many that are high quality in the City at all. Seems like the best options are outside SF these days, so considering all that and the very difficult parking options in Chinatown....
