Despite how I've been well aware of Pho Ha Tien for a number of years (decades?), I'd be lying if I said I ever felt very motivated to check them during that time. Sure, I had been curious if they were any good, but I never knew of anyone who had actually been here before. That is, until my buddy's wife mentioned how this has been her family's go-to spot for Vietnamese food. Not an overwhelming endorsement, but between that and how the beef satay pho here is her favorite dish (just like how it's mine at one of my family's go-to spots), it was enough! Compared to some of the Vietnamese restaurants I've been to before, Pho Ha Tien feels surprisingly spacious. Not only do they not pack the tables together (it doesn't feel cramped), but they haven't been all that busy either, so you never feel rushed to leave. However, the most impressive thing about them might be how extensive the menu is, as it certainly isn't lacking in options to choose from. From their collection of starters, beef pho, noodle soup, vermicelli bowls, rice plates, soups, garlic noodles, crab (!!), grilled dishes, banh mi, specialty entrees, and desserts, it'd be almost impossible not to find something to eat! -- (#47C) SHRIMP & BBQ PORK ROLLS My buddy recommended this to us and I'm glad he did - it's probably one of the best fresh rolls I've had in a while! Both the shrimp and the pork were terrific, the noodles and roll were soft and tender, and the veggies were crisp and fresh. Plus, there was no cilantro in this! -- (#1) HA TIEN SPECIAL EXTRA LARGE COMBO with Rare Beef, Beef Meatball, Beef Brisket, and Tripe Nothing amazing, but not bad either. The rare beef was kind of bland, but the brisket was great and the noodles had a nice bite. Also, I liked how dark and beefy the broth was, but I wish it had more body/richness to it to round it out. -- (#10) SATAY BEEF PHO with Coconut Milk and Peanuts This was just okay, but maybe I'm just too used to the one at PPQ on Irving. Although it made the broth super pale, the coconut milk added a lot of flavor and depth and I liked how the bowl was generously filled with goodies, even though the beef got tough towards the end. -- (#36) SHRIMP, EGG ROLL, SHREDDED PORK, CHARBROILED PORK, & EGG LOAF RICE PLATE Rather unremarkable, to be honest. On the plus side, the charbroiled pork was juicy and the shredded pork was solid. However, the shrimp was a little greasy, the egg loaf was cold, and the egg roll was dried out and overcooked, both inside and out (the roll broke open). Although I can't say I was blown away by anything outside of the Shrimp and BBQ Pork Roll, I can see why my buddy's wife and her family continue to come back to Pho Ha Tien. As a whole, everything feels very homely and I can see how coming here can have the same sense of nostalgia that going to my family's favorite haunts does for us. In the future, I can see myself coming back again to try more of the menu, especially when meeting up with my buddy and his wife to grab a bite, but I'll probably stick with my usual spots for the most part.
We grabbed takeout since they were about to close. Quick service. Decent ingredients with average taste. Noodles stood out as not tasting too good (maybe we got the end of night scraps). Value seems a little lacking since price is pretty hefty for pho. . Also, I ordered a large and a regular, but from the looks of what I got, both were the same size. Can't really tell if I ended getting 2 large's (if so, thank you) or 2 regular's (if so, value drops even further).
Came here because I was nearby and craving some banh mi for lunch! I ordered the combination pork banh mi and the portion size was decent for the price (around $12). I would say the bun was thicker than I would've liked and hoped there was a little more filling but I still think the banh mi was a good deal :) Service was quick, and the establishment was a pretty spacious place to have a quick bite!
I've been coming to this spot for over 10 years and they've still got it! Perfect place to come for a piping hot bowl of pho or bun Bo hue. We came about 30 min before they closed on a week day after work and loved every bite! Support local!
My family's favorite to go pho spot. The staff is always there to greet you as soon as you set foot through the door. They are always friendly. The restaurant is well kept and clean. Restaurant is very well lighted. It feels very home like and makes you feel warm and comfortable. Ingredients used is always very fresh. The beef broth of the pho is light yet flavorful. It is not too heavy or salty at all. Must add service is fast too. We didn't have to wait long for our food to arrive. Would definitely recommend this place and come back with my family.
Another great bowl of Pho! They now include cilantro/coriander in the accoutrement. Always fast service, always a clean and comfortable vibe.
Service is very quick. Bowl size for pho is huge. On the meat to noodles ratio, it leans significantly more on the noodles. Overall, everything is tasty and I'm glad this place exists in the neighborhood.
Food was pretty mid, not that great, they did give a pretty good amount of noodles. The cleanliness of the tables were ok. Service was fast, but the waitress was pretty mean and rude when we were just asking for an extra bowl and plate. Even if I am around the area, I might not come back again. Mid food and bad service.
I went back yesterday! Im thrilled to say that its still amazing. It totally hits the spot& comes out super fast! Its so savory, warm and delicious. I will come back again and again! Now my partner loves it too! He said the wontons had great flavor the way dumplings should taste.
We haven't come here since the pandemic hit. Used to be our Vietnamese foods spot. I'm glad it still under the same ownership. All the prices went up 50% , I still have the old menu before the pandemic. Foods still good like the old days. Might come back more often from now.
The Bun Bo Hue is still good here, but most, if not all, of the appetizers are a miss for us. We try to get different things each time. However, today the #2 was also a miss because the beef texture was weird. The service is always fast, though.
I ended up getting food poisoning from here. The food wasn't prepared correctly what's so ever. I been throwing up the last 12 hours and they are the only place I had.
Stopped by for a quick lunch on the weekend and it was pretty spacious. Had a lot of options on their menu and our food came out pretty quickly. The staff was nice, helping us get items we needed and making sure our orders were correct. Shrimp Rolls - Came out with 4 pieces and the rice paper was a little stiff. The ingredients were fresh but it was mostly vermicelli inside. Combo Beef Noodle Soup - The pho was pretty standard and didn't stand out to me. The soup was very light but didn't have the usual rich meat flavor. My boyfriend got the Bun Bo Hue which he highly recommends, saying it was one of his favorites in the bay area, and you have to add lemon/lime and fish paste/ot sate to it so definitely go here if that's the dish you want to get!
Horrible Vietnamese food to go. Service is non existent and food took forever to make even though the place was empty. The noodle soup was clumsy and the soup is cheap broth. Spring rolls were hard but the peanut sauce is okay. read more

lol. it aint great. but it'll like do because it's close by. but i'd pick kevin or pho ga any day over here. so here's what's good: -service is good and wait time is pretty short. -they speak chinese so it's even easier to order. -free tea lesssgooo. -lots of seating so i never had to wait. what's meh: -everything else. i recommend not straying from the typical common viet stuff like beef or chicken pho, imperial roll, because the banh cuon and bun bo hue are no good imo. do not order it. which is sad because not many vietnamese restaurants in sf offer banh cuon. :( -it's pretty old interior so it can be a turn off. -quality and taste just doesn't match the price point here. i think it's just fine. average at best. kevin's is better because they put more msg so it's more flavorful. sorry :/ read more

Street parking with meters. Okay on Sunday but still difficult to find space. Food was average overall. Soup base was broth, rice noodles. Side dish included the basil, bean sprouts, slice of chili. Beef thinly sliced, beef tendon was soft enough, tripe was also soft enough. Egg crepe #59 had egg crepe, not crispy, inside seafood and bean sprouts were average. The service was average. Not too many customers. Overall, 3 stars out of 5. read more

I've been ordering doordash here almost everyday for the past week and a half after discovering they have banh cuon here. Most vietnamese restaurants don't carry banh cuon or they make it super salty. I'm glad I found this restaurant because of how fast they finish my order every time and it's super close to my home too. The food here is great and decent price for everything. I have tried a fair share of almost everything and my go to is definitely the steamed rice rolls with ground pork(banh cuon). read more

Dropped by on a Thursday morning and there was no wait and we were seated right away. They take card as method of payment as well. I got the Special Extra Large Combo Noodle Soup. The broth was sweet and the pho was delicious. The pieces of beef are big and this was definitely enough to make me full. I did leave feeling very thirsty and drowsy afterwards. Those are usually side effects I experience from msg intake, so they probably add quite a bit of that. read more

Been eating here years now and it's so nostalgic stepping in today. Dined in today, Saturday 2022, and it wasn't as busy as before but still full of people. The workers are super nice and seated us immediately - Imperial rolls are a must. - Seafood noodle soup has actual pieces of fish, which I really like. Disappointed. Found sink waste in my banh mi. As I bit into my chicken banh mi, I found some disgusting gunk that you would find collected in a kitchen sink drain filter. I'm gagging just thinking about it. This is my first time ordering banh mi from here and my last. The owner refunded me for the banh mi. read more

Ordered the combination pork sandwich and the iced coffee via UberEats. The sandwich was a good size, and you can comfortably eat the whole thing in one sitting. The bread was good, nicely crispy exterior, but was lacking in the amount of fillings - it was a thin slice of each pork, not much carrots, and barely any daikon radishes. The veggies it did have were dried out and didn't add any sweetness to the sandwich to balance the salty meat. Also, there's not much sauce or pate in the sandwich to help you get the sandwich down- I tried to wash it down with the coffee, but then opted to just drink my water instead. The iced coffee was super disappointing- I expected Vietnamese iced coffee, but proportion condensed milk was off, so it was just... bitter thick coffee. read more

Food is as good as before. Been coming here for years and the taste is the same. How amazing is that. Service is regular phone place but we came in around 3pm when it's not busy so I think the service is better than usual. I think I will still come here when I'm around. THE COST $47.30 total (including tips) for 3 lunch entrees. Not bad! THE FOOD 5. Rare Beef & Beef Meatball (Sml $8.75) - 4 stars Tasty soft beef, good broth & noodles. 59. You know sometimes you just don't realize when a place is this simple.. it's like second nature to walk in, dine, and walk out. But TODAY, you deserve a shoutout! Where do I even start... a friend of mine introduced this place to me back in... I wana say 2011.... 2012.. 2013? Around those time :D Is that OG or naw? I'm so happy they finally opened again for indoor dining! I think I've eaten here probably before the owners son took over? -shrug- but yes. Star of the show is the classic satay beef (at least what's what my friend group and I are crazy for). Honestly, no where gets close to their way of making it. I'd say Yummy Yummy on Irving comes a close 2nd. Everywhere else is not the same (I think it's the coconut milk -thinking face-). But yeah, for sure they weren't as spicy as before (years ago). Sometimes they broth hits in a good day, and sometimes they're not as consistent but it's okay, regulars will always return. My friends love their BBH and banh mi here too. I'm legitimately here for their satay beef 100%. And shoutout to my mom for bringing my childhood memory back, she ordered #123 (only so many viet places make that drink/ dessert now- IYKYK), that drink I guess is a type of herbal tea? I placed an order through UberEats for #36 rice plate and #2 beef pho. The pho all came separately packed. The noodles were packed together with the raw slices of meat and the soup on the side. The lime, basil, bean sprouts were in another small baggy so it was good that everything was separated. The pho is nothing special and it wasn't as hot when I received the order. Really like that they gave you individual hoisin and hot sauce packets. However, the #2 rice plate wasn't that great. The meat portion was very small in my opinion and there was so much rice leftover in the end. There wasn't much flavor in the meat also. Overall, the meal filled our stomachs but it wasn't very satisfying and appetizing. read more
