Despite how I've been well aware of Pho Ha Tien for a number of years (decades?), I'd be lying if I said I ever felt very motivated to check them during that time. Sure, I had been curious if they were any good, but I never knew of anyone who had actually been here before. That is, until my buddy's wife mentioned how this has been her family's go-to spot for Vietnamese food. Not an overwhelming endorsement, but between that and how the beef satay pho here is her favorite dish (just like how it's mine at one of my family's go-to spots), it was enough! Compared to some of the Vietnamese restaurants I've been to before, Pho Ha Tien feels surprisingly spacious. Not only do they not pack the tables together (it doesn't feel cramped), but they haven't been all that busy either, so you never feel rushed to leave. However, the most impressive thing about them might be how extensive the menu is, as it certainly isn't lacking in options to choose from. From their collection of starters, beef pho, noodle soup, vermicelli bowls, rice plates, soups, garlic noodles, crab (!!), grilled dishes, banh mi, specialty entrees, and desserts, it'd be almost impossible not to find something to eat! -- (#47C) SHRIMP & BBQ PORK ROLLS My buddy recommended this to us and I'm glad he did - it's probably one of the best fresh rolls I've had in a while! Both the shrimp and the pork were terrific, the noodles and roll were soft and tender, and the veggies were crisp and fresh. Plus, there was no cilantro in this! -- (#1) HA TIEN SPECIAL EXTRA LARGE COMBO with Rare Beef, Beef Meatball, Beef Brisket, and Tripe Nothing amazing, but not bad either. The rare beef was kind of bland, but the brisket was great and the noodles had a nice bite. Also, I liked how dark and beefy the broth was, but I wish it had more body/richness to it to round it out. -- (#10) SATAY BEEF PHO with Coconut Milk and Peanuts This was just okay, but maybe I'm just too used to the one at PPQ on Irving. Although it made the broth super pale, the coconut milk added a lot of flavor and depth and I liked how the bowl was generously filled with goodies, even though the beef got tough towards the end. -- (#36) SHRIMP, EGG ROLL, SHREDDED PORK, CHARBROILED PORK, & EGG LOAF RICE PLATE Rather unremarkable, to be honest. On the plus side, the charbroiled pork was juicy and the shredded pork was solid. However, the shrimp was a little greasy, the egg loaf was cold, and the egg roll was dried out and overcooked, both inside and out (the roll broke open). Although I can't say I was blown away by anything outside of the Shrimp and BBQ Pork Roll, I can see why my buddy's wife and her family continue to come back to Pho Ha Tien. As a whole, everything feels very homely and I can see how coming here can have the same sense of nostalgia that going to my family's favorite haunts does for us. In the future, I can see myself coming back again to try more of the menu, especially when meeting up with my buddy and his wife to grab a bite, but I'll probably stick with my usual spots for the most part. read more

We grabbed takeout since they were about to close. Quick service. Decent ingredients with average taste. Noodles stood out as not tasting too good (maybe we got the end of night scraps). Value seems a little lacking since price is pretty hefty for pho. . Also, I ordered a large and a regular, but from the looks of what I got, both were the same size. If I had the heart to give them 1 star, I would but they have so much room for improvement. Given that there are no other Vietnamese pho restaurants in the area, I had hoped this neighborhood staple wouldn't miss. The service is friendly and the entire restaurant reminds you that this is a family owned operation. For those new to San Francisco, this restaurant has been here longer than even some millennials. Everyone kind of knew this place as the pho restaurant on Ocean by the 24 hour fitness and 7 Eleven. We ordered Pho Tai (flank steak pho) and Pho Ga (chicken pho). Both had a very similar broth. At first glance, both dishes had above average protein portions. For those who don't know, 2 oz protein would be on the lower end (ramen shop standards). Industry standard is 3.5-4 oz. Pho Ha Tien gives you approximately 5 oz or so. The beef pho didn't have much beef bone broth essence and lacked in complexity; yet, it was definitely salty from the flavorings and safe to assume - MSG. The chicken had a bit more of a chicken taste but left an intense thirst on my palette for hours - another dish victim to MSG. Came here because I was nearby and craving some banh mi for lunch! I ordered the combination pork banh mi and the portion size was decent for the price (around $12). I would say the bun was thicker than I would've liked and hoped there was a little more filling but I still think the banh mi was a good deal :) Service was quick, and the establishment was a pretty spacious place to have a quick bite! read more

Came here after the gym for some quick eats! We were seated quickly given warm tea right as we sat. I ordered a classic beef pho while my boyfriend ordered the 5-spice chicken rice plate. The pho was pretty decent. The broth had good flavor and the portion size is generous with ample meats. The rice plate, on the other hand, was lacking in protein and overall was underwhelming. We wouldn't recommend getting the rice plates, but this is a solid local spot for pho! read more

My family's favorite to go pho spot. The staff is always there to greet you as soon as you set foot through the door. They are always friendly. The restaurant is well kept and clean. Restaurant is very well lighted. It feels very home like and makes you feel warm and comfortable. Ingredients used is always very fresh. The beef broth of the pho is light yet flavorful. Stopped by for a quick lunch on the weekend and it was pretty spacious. Had a lot of options on their menu and our food came out pretty quickly. The staff was nice, helping us get items we needed and making sure our orders were correct. Shrimp Rolls - Came out with 4 pieces and the rice paper was a little stiff. The ingredients were fresh but it was mostly vermicelli inside. Combo Beef Noodle Soup - The pho was pretty standard and didn't stand out to me. The soup was very light but didn't have the usual rich meat flavor. My boyfriend got the Bun Bo Hue which he highly recommends, saying it was one of his favorites in the bay area, and you have to add lemon/lime and fish paste/ot sate to it so definitely go here if that's the dish you want to get! read more

I've been ordering doordash here almost everyday for the past week and a half after discovering they have banh cuon here. Most vietnamese restaurants don't carry banh cuon or they make it super salty. I'm glad I found this restaurant because of how fast they finish my order every time and it's super close to my home too. The food here is great and decent price for everything. Dropped by on a Thursday morning and there was no wait and we were seated right away. They take card as method of payment as well. I got the Special Extra Large Combo Noodle Soup. The broth was sweet and the pho was delicious. The pieces of beef are big and this was definitely enough to make me full. I did leave feeling very thirsty and drowsy afterwards. Ordered the combination pork sandwich and the iced coffee via UberEats. The sandwich was a good size, and you can comfortably eat the whole thing in one sitting. The bread was good, nicely crispy exterior, but was lacking in the amount of fillings - it was a thin slice of each pork, not much carrots, and barely any daikon radishes. The veggies it did have were dried out and didn't add any sweetness to the sandwich to balance the salty meat. Also, there's not much sauce or pate in the sandwich to help you get the sandwich down- I tried to wash it down with the coffee, but then opted to just drink my water instead.
