35. Oxbridge Special
Olivia C.

A neighborhood corner store + deli I've been frequenting for years! A true hidden gem in the city. Prices are slightly higher than average, but the sandwiches are hefty and can feed up to 2 people. Deli is on the left upon entering. Order there and grab a bag of chips + a drink from the store to enjoy with your sandwich! No matter what sandwich you choose from their extensive menu, Dutch crunch bread is a must. I like how their Dutch crunch has the perfect amount of crunch (satisfying, while not being too crunchy to the point where the roof of your mouth is scraped up). It's also not overly sweet compared to other Dutch crunch breads I've tried. I usually get either the Cali Club with provolone or the Oxbridge Special (formerly known as 2. Atomic 47 on their old menu; also isn't listed on their current menu board but it's listed on their GrubHub). The Cali Club is almost like an elevated BLTA. Perfect if you want a sandwich that's both hearty and fresh. The Oxbridge Special is mildly spicy and the roast beef in it is savory and juicy. Definitely come by if you're ever in the area!

I love this place and they make the best sandwiches in San Francisco maybe the Bay Area. I had the SFPD today and it was amazing.

36. Buffalo Bill (no bbq sauce)

Stopped here on our crosstown trail hike and it was the perfect spot for a filling lunch! I had heard great things about this spot but it still blew me out of the water. We got the buffalo bill sandwich on dutch crunch and it was a virtually perfect sandwich! We got it with no bbq sauce and on dutch crutch. The bread was so fantastic!! We particularly liked the coleslaw addition and the flavor of the roast beef. It was super flavorful and fresh. The sandwich is hearty enough to be shared between two people and the price is decent for what you get! No seating inside since it's a grocery store but we were able to eat it during our walk just fine. The service is very friendly and there wasn't too long of a wait after we ordered.

Stopped by here while doing the SF Crosstown Trail and I'm so happy I was able to check them out! The employees were so fun to talk to, and the market carries a large variety of everything you would need. From the deli, we ordered the Godmother, which was absolutely scrumptious. The sandwiches were extremely large, and I was able to split this easily with a friend and still feel full. I loved how generous they were with the amount of meat, and the flavors of everything together were super good. It was a fantastic sandwich. I highly recommend giving this place a try! They don't have any seating, but there's parks in the area to eat. Definitely stop by if you're doing the trail. :)

AMAZING sandwiches!! They're not the cheapest (around $14-20 depending on the sandwich), but these sandwiches are HEFTY and could feed 2 people. So far my favorite has been the #1 Cali Club (on dutch crunch bread of course), but I can't wait to go back and try more options!

I love those sandwiches. I've challenged myself to go through all the numbers. Yet find it hard to decide when I get there Everything is so good

What a hidden gem! Stopped here on my way to the giants game to get a sandwich and this place blew me away. Parking was really easy, but it is next to a school so I'd imagine pick up time gets pretty hectic. Cute convenience store with all the snacks, including an insane amount of ice cream choices. The deli counter is clean and full and I chose the #1 Cali Club. The sandwich was AH-MAZING! It was big enough to share and came with a generous amount of deli meat, cheese, avocado, and all the standard sandwich goodies.

Sandwiches are okay, but the atmosphere is a literal health hazard. I walked in and placed an order for 2 sandwiches with the man behind the counter. He told me it would be a few minutes, so while I waited, I went to the refrigeration section to pick out a couple of soft drinks. At that moment, I observed the same man confidently lighting a cigarette INDOORS, right in front of the deli counter. I cannot believe the audacity of this establishment to allow smoking indoors and continue to smoke while I wait in the cash register to be rung up. The smell of cigarette smoke was so overwhelming that it completely ruined my appetite at the time so I figured I'd wait to open it until I got home. I wanted to make sure the sandwich maker had a tip for his effort and wasn't punished for the misdeeds of the rude smoking cashier. But I also find it ridiculous that the lowest auto tip amount is 10% in a Bodega with no option to type your own. By the time my appetite returned, I was home. The sliced parts of the sandwich halves had absorbed the cigarette smell so much so that I had to cut a significant portion of the sandwiches off.

First time trying out this spot and it's safe to say I would be coming back again! The sandwich was pretty stacked with meat, pesto, cheese, and avocado. It was delicious, not too sloppy as you can actually take a bite of the sandwich and not have it all fall apart. The Dutch crunch bread gave it the perfect touch every bite.

Oxbridge Market is the source of legitimately the largest sandwich I've ever eaten. They're not cheap, but a single sandwich easily feeds two people. My partner and I nearly got our own and I'm so glad we didn't. The sandwich is so large it's hard to even take a bite, but the flavors are would definitely recommend to any crosstown hikers or sandwich lovers in the area

Burnt sandwich very disappointed

Burnt sandwich was disappointed this time around. If you see the bread is burnt why would you still make the sandwich and give it to the customer? Do you want returning customers????

We were in San Francisco for about a week, and having a Trader Joe's so close was a total lifesaver. We could easily stop in and grab breakfast foods, snacks, and, of course, our favorite peanut butter cups. It saved us from having to spend a ton of money eating out for breakfast every morning, and we were able to stock up on snacks that lasted us for the entire trip. This Trader Joe's was definitely a different experience than the one we're used to back home in the St. Louis suburbs. Since it was right in the city, you actually had to take an escalator down to get into the store, which was kind of fun and unexpected. I also felt like there was surprisingly more room in the aisles than I expected for a city location. The checkout line was a completely different story! It wrapped around the store, which honestly gave me a little anxiety because I felt like I needed to hurry and get everything because the line looked like it was going to take forever. But they had a ton of checkers working, and the line actually moved incredibly fast. Before I knew it, we were checked out and on our way. It was just really nice to be somewhere familiar while experiencing a totally different version of Trader Joe's in another city. Having one so close to our hotel made our trip easier, more affordable, and a little more fun. And yes, we absolutely stocked up on those peanut butter cups!

We had recently visited Japan and were interested to see if we'd find some of our favorite products here and were happily surprised were there. They have a large selection of prepared foods, including some incredible looking sushi (I wish we had bought some). The cold drinks had a great selection of options with some hard to find flavors and brands. From the produce to meat, seafood, and shelf stable items, it was overwhelming how much this store had. I loved the wide variety of candies and snacks. We picked up some new-to-us and some familiar items while we were here. I also picked up some spices and ingredients that are harder to find. The pricing on everything was very fair, and considering that a lot of these items are imported and not always easy to source, I was so excited! I once saw a security guard point to the correct door in which to leave thru. if you want a pint of Ben & Jerry's ice cream, you have to ask a store employee. The corner of the store at 4th and Harrison St., used to actually have a great bar that served craft beer. You could order food and sit there and watch tv and talk to folks sitting nearby. I discovered this place after parking in front of it for the nearby library branch on the same day I listened to KEXP for the first time. I was prepping for an upcoming weekend excursion, and while I usually buy my groceries in the South Bay, closer to where I'm headed, I decided to change things up and get (mostly) everything in one fell swoop. I believe I got a prepackaged side dish that was delicious. And some fruits and carrots for the road ahead and the weekend beyond.
