The Jake
Monina T.

I absolutely love a good sandwich! My favorite is the one loaded with various meats like Coppa, prosciutto, and salami--the kind that has all of them piled high. The Jake sandwich definitely checks all the boxes. The service here is quick and efficient, making the experience even better. As for the ambiance, it's pretty much what you'd expect from most sandwich shops--cozy and casual.

It's a delicious offer you couldn't refuse

The search for the best sandwich in San Francisco is very subjective. Many people have different tastes in the type of sandwiches they enjoy. I also look towards where you get the best sandwiches in San Francisco. I went to Calabria Brothers in the Excelsior and it is one of the best tasting sandwiches in San Francisco. This is the legacy spot to get authentic Italian sandwiches. I say it's better tasting compared it to a local favorite Roxie's on San Jose Avenue in nearby Mission Terrace neighborhood. The portions and flavors make it a great value. They have a few tables to enjoy the many different sandwiches. Come to Calabria Brothers for the sandwiches and I like ordering it with Dutch Crunch and come here for breakfast and for lunch The sandwiches at Calabria Brothers taste better than the surrounding deli neighborhood bunch including Roxie's because Calabria Brothers has better flavor and packs a stronger punch

Peppered Salami Sandwich with Provolone on sour dough

This cute little store has cut my eye more than once and finally, I was able to grab lunch there. This is quite a good lunch destination you get a lot of sandwich for your dollar so I highly recommend there is a big menu in. There are special sandwiches but I decided to just go for one of my favorites and that is a salami sandwich I chose the peppered salami just to kind of elevate it and I got all the fixings on the sourdough. The staff cordial very nice and quick to prepare my sandwich which was nice as I walked around the store I was able to see the display of food items they have including fresh pasta that's been frozen and also pasta from Italy, which I've been trying to get. Check out was simple and easy tap and pay with a nice clean shop with a lot large variety of Italian cookies and other items and I do highly recommend..

The Dan with lettuce, pickles, and onions

Love this place! Tried it out for the first time and the person who helped was extremely nice and welcoming. The place itself was neat and clean and smelled like a classic deli. I love sandwiches and would definitely go back here. The Dan had a lot of flavor and the spread was the cherry on top. I like that you have the option add certain things for free, though I definitely recommend to add the sides I did because it adds a lot to the flavor and made the sandwich a 11 out of 10.

Grabbed dinner here tonight. The sandwiches are massive! Definitely shareable. I went with the "Dan": Porchetto, Swiss, Mustard, Mayo, OiL, Vinegar, Garlic Spread & Roasted Tomalo on Sweet Roll. I switched the bread out, as dealers choice of the sandwich maker, to sourdough. Was not disappointed. Had a bag of Lime and Pink Pepper potato chips. Great flavor and a different option if taking a side. They have things to buy and take home. Olives. Ice cream. Snacks. Packaged meats. Deli meat. I opted for the Caramel and Balsamic Gelato for a snack at home. Highly recommend. The owner was behind the counter, helpful for the "newbie". Explained the process and what was available. Great little neighborhood deli. If you need a quick meal, you can sit in or take it to go, stop by and check them out. Would be great for a picnic.

"The Mark" is top notch and delicious! A great bang for your buck and super quickly made.

Muffuletta stuffed with salami, ham, mortadella, provolone and mozzarella cheese and a tasty olive salad.

Had the muffuletta, which is a New Orleans sandwich comprised of a round Sicilian round flat bread stuffed with salami, ham, mortadella, provolone and mozzarella cheese, and a tangy olive sandwich. The sandwich builder put extra meat in my sandwich. Sandwich exceeded my expectations and was delicious.

Such a great place to get sandwiches! I love being able to build my own sandwiches to my liking. Everything tasted amazing and the customer service was phenomenal!! You can also buy some Italian groceries and snacks. Highly recommend to get sandwiches and take to the park.

The Neil on Dutch crunch
joshua l.

Great staff, hefty sandwiches and great meats. We had the Mark and the Neil. One on sour dough one on Dutch crunch (definitely get the Dutch crunch!) sandwiches were huge so had my second half for dinner. I think next time I go I will see if I can get my bread slightly toasted. Although I love a cold sandwich I think the bread being warmed up would bring the sandwich to the next level. In addition to sandwiches the also curated a great selection of Italian items. The deli was also very clean and casual. With the radios song becoming an impromptu duet with the cashier. The customer service was top notch! Not only to us but also a dog that was given some thin cut turkey for sitting and being a good boy. Highly recommend if you're looking for a casual lunch spot.

In researching places near where we were staying, we learned about the Italian deli and shop. We were looking forward to stopping by to check out the store and grab lunch. The store itself is very cute and charming, full of so many items - fresh meats and cheeses, imported olive oils, pastas, desserts, wine, and liquor to name a few. There is an area where you can get coffee drinks and there is a deli area for ordering sandwiches, pizzas, specialty dishes, and salads. The variety of options is plentiful. I ordered an iced coffee beverage, which was great. My significant other and I ordered a sandwich to go, which we were splitting for a light lunch back at the hotel. The person helping at the counter was not very friendly or helpful with questions. We asked for our sandwich to be made on the Dutch Crunch bread, as we were looking forward to trying it. Unfortunately, when we got back to the hotel, it turned out that the sandwich was made on a regular ciabatta roll, which was not fresh. Additionally, the sandwich was mostly mixed greens. For the price, I expected more meat. With so many great food options in San Francisco, it is likely we won't stop by on future visits to the City.

I went with the Reuben: pastrami, Swiss, sauerkraut, 1000 Island on rye. It arrived warm, which I appreciated, but a warm sandwich with sauerkraut wrapped up for delivery is a rough combo. By the time it got to me the rye had gone a little soggy. A bit of a shame, but not a dealbreaker. Because the flavor itself was on point. The pastrami, Swiss, and sauerkraut balanced out well, nothing overpowered anything else, and it wasn't oversalted like a lot of Reubens end up being. The rye had a nice distinct character to it too. Next time I'll probably just walk in and order instead of doing delivery. I'm curious about their other sandwiches, though something cold would probably survive the DoorDash trip a lot better than this one did.

They're showing off their wares, flashing pristine teeth, and parading around in an endless convoy of BMWs, Mercedes, and Bentleys. It's a neighborhood where absolutely everything--from the cold-pressed juice to the real estate--has a heavy, unapologetic price tag associated with it. But we didn't come for the gloss. We came for soul. We came to find refuge in our ultimate comfort food at Lucca's Delicatessen. Walking through that door isn't just stepping into a shop; it's stepping into a Time Machine. My order never changes -- it's the Liverwurst on marble rye, dressed simply with a little tomato, mayo, and crisp lettuce. Yesterday, you might have been chasing whatever trendy sandwich they're slinging down at Lettuce, but today is about tradition. My wife goes for the Caprese sandwich with prosciutto--a beautiful, classic combination. For me, though, the magic happens on the very first bite. As soon as I crunch into that rye, the Marina melts away. I am a five-year-old boy again, sitting down with my mother at a long-lost lunch counter, just purely enjoying life. My wife knows this ritual; she sees the look on my face and she approves. That right there is the exact reason we come here. It's why we are willing to stand crammed together in that inhospitable, notoriously narrow line that hungry San Franciscans have been enduring since 1929. Dear God, think about that: it has been almost a century in existence. If you haven't tried it, maybe you should. Take a break from the shiny facade outside, step into the narrow line, and order something real. It will become a part of your DNA, just like it has permanently become a part of mine.
