We ordered the Fishin' and waited around 20 minutes outside an empty shop around 11:30AM on a Sunday morning. Brought it to eat at a nearby outdoor concert and we were not impressed. We got Dutch crunch (obvi) and it wasn't great--too dense and didn't have enough crunch. The sandwich itself was standard; a lot of bread. Great sandwich place on Taraval! I love turkey sandwiches so I always get the Juicin' on Dutch crunch, it has turkey, bacon and avocado. It's delicious, pretty affordable and decently sized! I love all the fixings they have for their sandwiches, they don't skip and goes so perfectly with the sandwich. They also have tater tots that are nice and crisp. I have no idea what kind of magic they are putting on their sandwich, but I swear, it is magical. Every bite is more delicious than I remember. Even when I am sitting there eating the sandwich, each time I take a bite I feel like I'm experiencing the taste for the first time. I've never experienced anything like it. It is a bit smaller than typical sandwich portions would be, I'd wish they have quantity options (ie: 6 oz or 12 oz). Great concept of Dutch Crunch with pastrami which still left us really full at the end but honestly the crunch roll was baked too crispy and hard. It wasn't a crispy smooth bite. The dressing to lettuce ratio was the perfect amount though. Chicken Tenders & Fries - 3/5 The fries were super nice and crispy which we liked. I think it had a little too much salt though. By the time we received the order, the saltiness had settled on the fries and the crispiness had made the fries feel overdried. The chicken tenders were fried perfectly. I just wish they came in a bigger portion. I'd often order chicken tenders from other locations paying about the same price and the portions were much more generous. For the price and convenience, Grubbin' isn't too bad of a spot to grab -and -go. We found this place while on our day trip in San Francisco to see the bison lol. I looked in Google Maps for sandwiches and found the one with the most stars. We found it and parked at the small park/tennis courts across the street. It's a small spot with no inside seating. Grubbin' is my favorite sandwich spot in the Bay Area! I wish they had more locations now that I live in the East Bay. In my opinion the biggest factors that make a game changing sandwich are the bread and the sauce. Grubbin' nails both of these and keeps me coming back after all these years. I cannot express my love of Dutch crunch bread enough, and Grubbin's bread just hits the spot- crunchy, doesn't get soggy even eating as leftovers. Inside crumb is soft and spongy but retains its structure so it doesn't fall apart. The number one thing that makes Grubbin different is their sauce. Grub sauce is their garlic spread that just adds another level of flavor that you can't get from deli meats, cheese, veg, or regular condiments. I called and left a message, so that they might check their counter the next day. 30 or so minutes later I received a call from a rep from Grubbin) saying that they had 1) not found my wallet, but 2) they reviewed their security footage and could see that I put it in my back left pocket. They were closed. Hadn't found it. And they went so far as to look at the cameras to help a rando customer. I found my wallet in a place that it should not have been hiding. I don't leave a lot of reviews these days but had to hop on to give Grubbin' five stars. Ask any of my friends what my favorite food is and they'll say sandwiches. I just so happened to be in the area, searching for a sando close by and went with Grubbin based on its Google ratings no less. Grubbin' looks fairly no frills inside. I asked them which sandos are their most popular and chose the Grubbin' Out on Dutch Crunch amongst their top 4. It came neatly wrapped and, upon first inspection, the ingredients were all neatly placed in the sandwich. Meats all proportionately laid in layers, with the meat slightly making up the majority of the fillings. Shredded lettuce and diced red onions on top. Cheese and sauces somewhere in there but not immediately obvious. It was perfect from the first bite. Seriously perfect. All the flavors and textures came together, along with the sandwich being toasted and warm. Also, I think because it was so neatly put together, there was zero slippage and spilling, which was a really nice bonus and preserves the consistency of flavors mixed in each bite. I don't live nearby so it's seriously unfortunate that I likely won't get to have Grubbin' again anytime soon, but it was so good I really have to consider making a special trip. Second time I've been to Grubbin' now and I definitely enjoyed this experience more than last time. I ordered the house recommended Grubbin' and found it made just right. The meat (pastrami, smoked ham, salami, and bacon) was stacked nice and high but admittedly, it was composed mostly of pastrami and ham. Pesto and grub sauce added a nice creamy richness while the non-negotiables (lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles) brought it all together. Dutch crunch was also the perfect vessel for this sandwich. To complement my sandwich, I opted for a side of tots. Fried fresh, they were crispy and piping hot when delivered, but were a tad overfried in my opinion. Still good though. Certainly satisfied my craving for something fried. All in all, nearly $14 for a sandwich lunch isn't the cheapest on the block, but it was certainly a taste that did merit the price. read more
