My friend told me after hearing that I loved Reuben sandwiches that this was the best place in San Francisco and I have to say WoW. Wow. When I came up to the place, it was nice to see that there was some tables out front with a couple chairs because I was with my wife and I thought will this be a nice way to have our sandwich instead of sitting in the car. We are in San Francisco on an appointment. This place was recommended to us by a friend at the VA hospital in San Francisco at Fort Miley. He knew the owners and said they'd make quality foods that you can take out or eat there. Nola, the owner greeted us at the counter. We introduced ourselves as a friend of her friends and said I came strictly over here to have a Reuben. I looked over-the-counter a little bit and I could see a sandwich they were building while I was there and I went oh my gosh mine looks half that good I'm happy. Generous portions of meat tomatoes lettuce all the toppings. They also use top ingredients here. This place is small, but it has a big heart and the food is delicious. If you're thinking, I don't wanna sit at a restaurant then you should think about coming here and getting a sand and taking it down to the beach and enjoying it there right where you bought it they have tables. Please be sure to look at the photos. I've posted for this place. I'm sure that afterwards you will probably wanna have one yourself. I will definitely return. This will be my go to place. And thank you Nola for making our visit special.
Heads up. No bread deliveries on Sunday. This means AK Meats usually run out of Dutch Crunch bread by the afternoon, which is the case today. For my roast beef with Swiss sandwich$13.75, I instead opted for the sweet French roll. This was still very good. Love AK Meats' sandwiches.
I stopped by to pick up some sandwiches for dinner. I came a little bit before 4pm. Parking was fairly easy (metered parking) and there were a lot of diners sitting outside eating. This mom and pop shop had lots to offer. Besides their sandwiches, there are Mac salads, lots of steaks and dried goods that you can bring home to cook yourself. I ordered the AK's Decadence ($13.99) with sun-dried tomatoes ($1.49 extra) on dutch crunch and the Hot Pastrami ($15.99) on a French roll with sauerkraut (extra $0.75). The total was $34.77 for both sandwiches. It took about 12 minutes for my sandwiches to be ready which was great considering it seemed like they had a flow of online orders as well. I opted to get the Decadence cold because I knew I wasn't going to eat it then and there. Usually sandwiches don't taste that great when you don't eat it immediately after getting it. But, after a I brought it home and toasted both sandwiches in the oven for dinner it still hit the spot. The crunch from the sandwiches and the flavors were on point. The Decadence was loaded with fresh veggies that balanced out the turkey. The sandwich was so big that it was almost too hard to bit down on the sandwich. I opted out of the mayo on the sandwich but I think I may have needed it or something else because it did feel a little on the drier side. As for the Hot Pastrami, my boyfriend seemed to really enjoy it. He said the sauerkraut really made the difference in the balance of the sandwich.The sandwich was loaded with the pastrami, tho smaller than the decadence in size. Overall, we both enjoyed our sandwiches and would stop by again when we are in the area.
This is a tiny shop that includes a butcher display of meat, poultry and seafood, deli counter and sandwich station. Sundry items line shelves. The staff is a family who greets guests, and explains the food, combos, and sandwiches. The hot pastrami sandwich is warmed and toasted. There are choices of breads but choose the softer hogie, It's easier on the roof of your mouth. The meat is warm, rich, and marbled like bacon. Mustard, mayo, tomatoes, onions and lettuce garnish the sandwich and they can be shared. Outdoor seating is available or take it to go.
Amazing little local deli. The sandwiches are legend and the service is even better! We have saved it for all future outings to the city. Perfect place to grab a bite if you are in town to see St. John Maximovich and it is not a fasting day.
Just had one of the best pastrami sandwiches I have ever had. The staff here are so nice wonderful. Friendly and provide amazing warm experience. The sandwiches were loaded with light and perfectly cooked Pastrami. Assembled with care and not rushed. Next time I'm going to try the Chopped Cheese on weekends. I also bought some their fresh ground meat and spicy Italian sausages.
A delicious sandwich! I wish the bread was a little crispier, but the meat and sauces were fantastic. The highlight of my visit was definitely the service though, the staff were so, so friendly and delightful to talk to.
I have been coming here for years. They have the BEST sandos (super recommend their BLT) and very good meat! Although they are a higher price point than your average super market, everything is fresh and of much higher quality! Be it salmon, red meat or even the chicken. You can taste the difference! They also have daily soups and some daily specials. The staff is super welcoming and helpful. If you are not sure about something, just ask them! Note: They get pretty busy at lunch time, so if you walk in and see sort of a line, but not really, ask around, everyone might be just waiting for their sandos and not actually "in line".
I got the Hot Pastrami Sandwich w Mustard & Mayo. It was assembled and toasted quickly after ordering. As for the sandwich itself, the crunchy exterior of the Dutch Crunch bread complements the thin stacked layers of Pastrami. Also the swiss cheese, along with the spiciness of the mustard brightens the sandwich and doesn't let you get bored with the flavor. The warmth of the toasted sandwich is great against the windy weather. And the portion size is large enough to be two meals. I'm satisfied that this was my first bite after a day of hiking.

Loved the pastrami! I got my pastrami with all the stuff - onions, peperoncini, and cheese. The bread was crispy and hot as was the stuff inside. This was so fresh and I can't believe that this place is so close to the house.

Ever eat a really bad rendition of something and you're like.... Oh hell naw...I NEED A REDO! Several weeks ago, I had a terrible hot pastrami sandwich at a wildly popular deli on the coast. With a hair appt two blocks away from A K Meats, a redo was in order. After 15+ years, I'm glad to finally knock this off my list. There's a reason that A K Meats, a small mom and pop shop has been around for over 25 years because it did NOT disappoint! For only $15.99, you get a generous portion of their Housemade NY-Style Pastrami....thinly shaved, tender, and moist with a rich, savory, meaty flavor that isn't overly salty. It's piled over melty swiss cheese and comes with a smear of mustard for a nice tang. I took it a step further and added pepperoncini (+$0.75) - I love that the pepperoncini is shaved so thin, giving you just enough acidic punch without that strong mouth-puckering hit. A roll is the way to go for structural integrity and if you plan to save the other half for dinner. If you're looking for a top-notch hot pastrami sandwich, IMHO, A K Meats is worth trekking across the city for. It beats waiting in line at a certain AI/tech-bro fav in SoMa. Don't get me wrong...their sandwiches are good but paying $30 out the door AND enduring 45 minutes to 1 hour of pre-seed, valuation, and burn rate chatter in line is brutal. Ya girl wants TEA, not TAM! O T H E R I N F O * A K Meats is a butcher shop and seafood counter. They also sell pantry items, snacks, and bottled drinks. * The wife & husband duo also own 25th/Clement Produce Market next door. * Takeout only but they have two tables and bench seating outside. * Their POS bypasses the tip option so bring cash! * No restroom onsite. * Street parking is doable on the weekdays. read more
This place was great! Family owned place and they were so kind. Make sure to visit the grocery store next store too. We talked with everyone, and they were wonderful! Not to mention the sandwiches were absolutely delicious! We were like if we lived here we would come here every day!! read more

Hands down the best hot pastrami sandwich I've ever had. It's worth a trip out to the avenues. I got mine fully loaded with pickles, onions and peppers. The added vegetables were chopped which gave you some in every bite. read more

What a great hole in the wall! When I came in I was greeted by the 2 sweet owners (or what I assume to be). They guided me and my friend in the right direction for ordering. We got the AK Hot Pastrami on a French roll and the AK Delicacy on Dutch crunch. The Delicacy is a turkey sandwich with all their veggies the have. Tasted like a very solid turkey sandwich and love that they put sprouts in it. The highlight of the meal and the reason I would come back again and again was definitely the AK Hot Pastrami! That was so good and is now my favorite hot pastrami. Will come back to have again. Probably put it on marble rye next. read more

I went here because my son wanted a deli sandwich and it was nearby after coming back from Baker Beach. I ordered a salami sandwich on a sweet French roll with mayo, mustard, provolone, tomatoes, and whole bunch of sprouts. My sandwich was cool, nothing spectacular. The sandwiches were $15 a piece! Definitely not returning but I like how organized the lady was in making the sandwich. read more
AK meats is a really nice place to get sandwiches to go. The tuna melt I had was excellent. They have a great selection of red and white meats for sale. The service was great and the cashier was very friendly. The Ambiance of the place was very nice as well. I give them 5 stars. I highly recommend them. The pastrami sandwich (8/10): Food was pretty good. Compared to Molinari Delicatessen in little Italy, it's not as good because Molinari gives more food, but the pastrami was really good; almost made up for the size. It's worth a second visit if I'm in the area. read more

The sandwiches here are amazing. Huge Sandy with a fair price. All the fixings and on top of that, amazing service. I have never ever had a bad experience here. Go in and get you a AK Decadence for lunch today HOT on a ditch, tell me that's not the best sandwich you've had in the city. read more
Delicious sandwiches + great service = A K Meats! We ordered the AKs Combo and AKs Pastrami. Both were yummy but I highly recommend the pastrami sandwich. It was the perfect temperature with ample amount of condiments/toppings. The service was very friendly and welcoming. read more

Ak Hot Pastrami - 5/5, loaded with TONS of pastrami, on a sweet roll with mustard. YUM. One of the best sandwiches I've ever had! If you love pastrami sandwiches, this is def a place worth trying. The other sandwiches seemed decent, and I swapped a half of my pastrami for a half of Ak's Decadence. Lots of meat and veggies, a typical sandwich. I personally think I would come here for the pastrami and go elsewhere for cold sandwiches. read more

Only change I made was doing it on a Dutch crunch roll cuz best bread obvi haha The little shop is so cute and everyone there is so sweet and I love that they're getting so much attention and patronage bc of the tiktok. Been here multiple times whenever I'm craving a sandwich and the service is always welcoming and friendly! The Dutch crunch bread is indeed crunchy and all the ingredients are fresh. The sandwiches are quite large and prices are reasonable for what you get! I like that they always recommend certain things depending on the sandwich. Never disappoints! read more

Oh it only took me over a year to finally try out this sandwich joint and I'm so glad I did!!! The man that took my order (not sure if he was the owner) told me there's no excuse why it took me so long and I totally agreed. He was super nice and made my Decadence Sando the way I wanted with pastrami. Love every bite of it and can't wait to come back for more & thank you for the best sandwich experience. read more
