This spot is close by to my neighborhood and this is my go-to spot! There is a walk-up counter where you order with the server and there are plenty of seating in the restaurant. The restaurant is clean and the people who work there are super nice. I like to order their veggie pho with beef broth and sometimes I'll get a shrimp fresh spring roll or their grilled shrimp vermicelli bowl. In this particular visit, though, I got their veggie pho with beef broth. Their veggies are fresh and cut proportionately and they give you a good amount of noodles. I love that they have crispy tofu here with their veggie pho, because I know that some places have soft tofu (it's difficult to pick up with chopsticks) and they give you a good amount of basil and bean sprouts as well as jalapenos! :) Their pho is reasonably priced - they offer a medium as well as large. Our weekend was over from nights at the cow palace and we wanted something comforting like pho and broth. I looked up yelp and this resturant was on the way from leaving the City. Came here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. You go up to the counter to order what you want and then you choose where you want to sit. There was plenty of seating because the place is quite large being able to comfortably seat about 60 patrons. Cashier greeted us as we walked in, was courteous and even repeated our order to make sure he heard correctly. We ordered a #20 and a #12 (no pho and extra veggies-no extra charge). We did not have to wait long to enjoy the delicious items we selected. The pork chop was juicy (although we prefer it with a touch more seasoning) egg roll was crispy, and the veggies in my soup were abundant with lots of variety. It had carrots, zucchini, mushrooms, white and green onions and beansprouts. Broth was delicious. Dining room was spacious and clean, bathrooms were clean and had seat covers. The pho is quite tasty with a flavorful broth and good quality meat, noodles and vegetables- but the appetizers need work. First, the restaurant is spacious and very clean. COVID protocols are still in effect but they don't require masks. I didn't realize the hour when we walked in; they were about to close. They offered to serve us for take-out. The ladies were polite and efficient and packed up all our food with care including two Thai iced teas. The chicken wings were dry. They told me the egg rolls were Imperial rolls (so I asked for extra lettuce, mint and nuac cham) but they were not: They were average egg rolls with packets of sweet & sour sauce on the side. This is my go-to takeout spot for pho. I always get a large plain pho with egg noodles and 2 sides of shrimp. You get 3 pieces of shrimp for $4. The shrimp are a pretty decent size but 3 aren't enough for me which is why I get 2 side orders. I've never dined in, only ordered through uber eats, and my order is normally around $22 and some change before uber adds all of their taxes. The broth is so rich and incredibly seasoned to perfection. It's just the right amount of salty and is always delivered to me piping hot. The shrimp does arrive with the shell on so I take those off, and add the thai basil and a squeeze of lemon to my bowl. I don't like rice noodles so I am happy that Pho Nation offers to substitute them for egg noodles. I always have left over broth for the next day. It pains me to write a bad review, but after getting sick to my stomach once and bad service the next time I'm done. This place just isn't worth the price or hype. Recently I went in for lunch and ordered the same rare steak with beef meat Ball that I always order. Instead of rare steak, I got overcooked meat that was hard. I brought it to my waitress' attention and she apologized, as they stated it was rare when they put it in. It was very poor quality and very overcooked. I told her that I was not happy with my order and she went to speak to the manager who then said, if I wanted rare steak I needed to pay extra. I told her that I was very unhappy with that, because I did not receive rare steak in the first place and that it was not edible. So when the manager came by, I spoke with her and she said they never serve it rare like that. I disagreed, as I have ordered it like that from THIS place before. She basically argued that all restaurants serve rare beef cooked and had to disagree again, as this is the dish I always ordered. The manager was very dismissive and rude, I kept my composure - but didn't want to be there anymore. If you don't care to hear from your customers and don't care about their business - you lose it. I hate spending nearly $20 with tip on food that is wasted, but it was not good. But ultimately the reason I will not return again is the way I was treated when I brought it up my concerns. read more

Under a Pho Nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all, I may be viewed as a pho insurrectionist since out of my two drop-by's here, I didn't order their pho. I believe a firing squad would be the next step in a less tolerable nation. However, it was the allure of the $13.45 Steamed Chicken and Salad Rice Plate that trumped the pho both times. It was a hefty portion by any standard with chopped pieces of bone-in steamed chicken placed on top of a bed of white rice and accompanied by iceberg lettuce. It certainly hit the spot after traipsing on the Philosopher's Walk at nearby John McLaren Park. Yay! We were pleasantly surprised by Pho Nation. We've tried our fair share of meh Vietnamese restaurants in the city and bland pho so I'm happy to report that Pho Nation wasn't one of them. They lived up to their 4.5 stars. Thank you Yelp for not leading us astray! Okay, I can't say it was the BEST pho I've ever had (ahem Pho Huynh Hiep aka Kevin's Noodle House in the Inner Sunset) but the broth was flavorful and hit the spot on a cold SF evening. You can't ever go wrong with spring rolls with peanut sauce. In spite of the spring roll wrapper falling apart, the rolls tasted good. I was especially surprised to see four giant egg rolls in my vermicelli bowl. I loved the freshness of the salad and the egg rolls were super filling. During Covid times there's nothing I like seeing better than a completely empty restaurant and that was just our luck on a random weekday evening. I felt safe eating in since the restaurant is fairly spacious which allowed for customers to sit far apart. There is no outdoor dining. This place serves up a decent bowl of pho to go, which is rare! It's not quite as good as the Vietnamese place I used to frequent on telegraph in Oakland but it was solid. I haven't been in this area for at least a decade and surprisingly it has not changed much at all. There's about 5-6 blocks of restaurants and shops along San Bruno Avenue. Most parking is metered and can be tricky to get. The streets are somewhat dirty and most stores look like they've been here for decades. Pho Nation is a new restaurant -- quite spacious and clean inside. It's unfortunate they can't open for dine-in services due to COVID restrictions and the streets are too narrow for outdoor seating. I wondered if takeout pho would even be any good but in support of new businesses in different areas, we decided to give this place a try. Ordered: #1 pho nation combo $11.95 -Beef, flank, brisket, tripe, beef balls #13 house special Vermicelli $14.95 -Grilled chicken, pork, shrimp #20 combo rice place $14.95 -Chicken wings, egg roll, porkchop Service was friendly. Presentation was beautiful. Ordering was easy. Food was ready quick. We took our food to the nearby neighborhood park. There was a good amount of food and most of it was tasty but I thought the price point was too high. I have a neighborhood Vietnamese place in Daly City that sells pho, combo rice and noodle plates for about $4 less than what is being charged here. When I saw that Pho Nation opened right next door to the SFFD, I didn't think too much of it because this location has been a revolving door of mediocre Vietnamese restaurants since I was a kid. At one point, there were two signs with two different Vietnamese restaurant names posted! I later did a Yelp search and saw their original location in Newark has 4.5 stars on Yelp. Very promising so I decided to give it a try. Plus, we all have to do our part of supporting small mom and pop businesses especially ones with no social media presence AND brave enough to open in the midst of a pandemic! Currently, Pho Nation is open for takeout and delivery (GrubHub, DoorDash, and UberEats). The menu is small (2 pages) which is a good sign. They serve Phở ($11.95 - $14.95), Bún: vermicelli bowl ($11.95-$14.95), and Com Dĩa: rice plates ($11.95 - $14.95). Small menu with standard offerings but that's usually a good sign. Prices are about $1 more on 3rd party delivery platforms. I ordered on UberEats and my order was delivered in less than 30 minutes. Food was hot and packaged very well.
