Bahn mi spiced chicken
Drew F.

Jumped off SFO flight, drove north & I find this calm, quiet spot. CASH ONLY. Welcomed immediately and sat. #29 Pork Vermicelli - Bun Cha Gio Thit. Fresh cucumber, lettuce, mint & crispy mini egg rolls over charred pork, & vermicelli noodles. Ultra delicious fish sauce on the side, plenty of sriracha, jalepenos, hoisin, chili crisp on the table. Spectacular! A+

This place is definitely easy to miss but I am glad I was able to spot it while driving past the restaurant. I stopped in on Saturday morning and the place was empty so I was able to get assisted right away. Definitely seems like a family business with the older gentleman and his wife I believe. The viet iced coffee was really good that I didn't snap a picture before drinking half of it. The bbq pork banh mi was decent, no complaints but not a hit for me. With the restroom being located inside by going past the kitchen, I was able to look around and see that it was really clean and well kept. Will have to come back and visit so I can try the basil fried rice and pho that others ordered!

pad thai $13 top view

The pad thai $12.95 was good. It sounded interesting to order a Thai dish at a Vietnamese restaurant. The portion was small and left me wanting. It came with a side of clear soup. Zero wait at lunch on a Saturday at noon as I'm the only customer. A few people came through to pick up their go-to orders. My stir fried noodles were ready in about 10 minutes. The restaurant could use a deep cleaning as the tables are sticky but I didn't smell anything weird. This is a charming small restaurant with four tables serving good noodles on Leland St. There isn't a lot of restaurants on this block. Good job staff at Pho Luen Fat.

This restaurant is definitely a hole in the wall, if you know about this restaurant, you know what's up! My favorite dishes here are bun bo hue, basil fried rice, and basil chicken over rice. Everything is so flavorful and appetizing here. Whatever your tastebuds are craving, this restaurant will fulfill it. The owner is always super nice and funny. He never tells you what's actually good, tells you to try it out first. HAHAA. I definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone.

I have a soft spot for mom and pop shops, especially coming in greeted by a friendly smiling face. Support small business! Ordered takeout (2 noodle soups and 2 banh mi) and it was ready in 15 mins. Banh mi is delicious, a good helping of the mayo which gives it great flavor. Fantastic prices: Banh mi $7 Pho $12

Is it just me but iPhone autocorrect is hella whacked and just keeps getting worse and worse? Case in point: "What do you want at Phở Luen Fat?" *Types in BBH* *Hits send* "BBC?!" "OMG, I meant 'BBH'...damn autocorrect!" *FACE PALM* Phở Luen Fat has been on my list to try for mom and pop owned cheap eats and I finally had a chance to try it last month. They're open for takeout only. No indoor dining and they're not on any delivery platforms . M E N U Viet, Chinese, and Thai. I think the owners are Chinese so the Viet food has a Chinese bent to it. CASH ONLY. F O O D * Bún Bò Huế: Spicy Beef Noodle Soup w/ well done flank, pork, fancy pork, tendon, pork blood (Large - $12.95): https://bit.ly/3p3hbCU ***Add extra fancy pork + tendon (+$2) For the price and for Viz Valley, the BBH was decent. The thick, round rice noodles were al-dente and chewy despite takeout. No clumping (soup was separated). The flank was tender and the fancy pork (chả lụa) was fine since you can rarely go wrong with steamed pork roll. The tendons were cubed and had a soft yet firm gelatinous bite to it. There was one cube of pork blood that was soft and smooth, and not too metallic-y tasting. The pork was missing. The broth was my least fav component...it lacked depth and complexity, and tasted like msg water. Maybe because it was an hour before closing? The accompanying saté sauce (lemongrass chili oil) really helped to give it a punch of flavor and heat, along with the basil, jalapeños, and squeeze of lime. S E R V I C E My order was kindly dropped off to me since I was isolating (turned out not to be Covid - PHEW!) so can't comment on the staff but the food took about 15 minutes to prepare. Be careful of the soup container when traveling. They don't secure it with a baggie so there was spillage. A M B I A N C E Due to Covid, takeout only. P A R K I N G Metered street parking. Overall, being under the weather, it was a decent bowl of BBH. More of 3.5 stars but it was cheap. You can't even get a bowl of BBH in E Man Jose for this cheap so 4 stars.

Stumbled upon Pho Luen Fat this past Sunday when I was at a park near this part of SF. Currently, everything is to-go and cash only. I haven't seen these types of prices since 10+ years ago at other similar restaurants. I ordered seafood chow-fun, including tax/tip was about $10! I was even able to eat this for another meal at a later time. Needless to say, the portion was generous and they weren't too stingy with seafood. I will admit that the chow-fun was greasier than I'd like. This place is situated in a residential area so street parking only and near a couple of parks. If I'm in this part of SF again, I wouldn't hesitate to eat here again. #32/2021

Food is delicious and price is cheap! Indoor dining was available and to-go made it busy. Angel wings are a must!

5 spice chicken noodle soup. So good!

.... because this mom and pop shop deserves more love. If you're on a budget but still want some delicious Vietnamese food, you're at the right place! You can't really find an pho place anywhere in the city with a menu full of items under $10 bucks... Seriously, an extra large pho for only $10.95? Banh mi for $4.5?! Did I get your attention yet? 「 ORDERED | VERDICT 」 1. Banh Mi Cha Shu | $4.50 | 5/5 stars : Every week, I used to sneak one of these bad bois and eat it for lunch in class. I've probably consumed more banh mi than any other item on their menu. I can't tell you how addicted I am. Their bread is nice and soft. Their pate and mayo is the highlight of the whole sandwich! If you gave me a sandwich with just pate on it, I'll be super satisfied. So goooood. :') 2. Pho Xe Luu | $7.95 Large | 5/5 : Whenever I'm craving pho, this is the first place I think of. Such a bang for your buck. Nothing different from the ones you get at other pho places.. except for the price. 3. 5 spice chicken noodle soup | $8.50 | 5/5 stars: Such a flavorful broth. I love how they put garlic chips inside that enhances every bite and every sip. The 5 spice chicken is also tender and juicy. Can't go wrong. Their angel wings, bun bo hue and pad thai are really good too! -- The owner is really nice and friendly. Always a plus! Always happy to see customers! Because of Covid, they don't have indoor dining yet. Only take out orders. You can also call ahead. Cash only. Support local businesses! 04.16.2021 | Friday @ 11:45 am (long-overdue review)

#7 Bun Rieu
Tim C.

I ordered something for pickup. Decent price, decent food, quick! But when I order Bun Rieu because I wanted shrimp noodle soup then people give me shrimp noodle soup. 2 baby shrimps in a dish that's shrimp noodle soup? That's it? Stop being so cheap! And it's 2021! This place is still cash only. You need to accept credit card!

Once they started calling tables, it moved really fast. When we were seated, we ended up sharing a table with two other groups of two. I actually didn't mind it at all because there was still enough space between everyone to have privacy. It also made the experience feel more social -- I ended up chatting with the people to my right and left about the food. Everything we ordered was really good. Their popular dry fried chicken absolutely lived up to the hype and was probably my favorite thing on the menu... besides the cherry pork. I feel like nobody talks about the cherry pork enough! It was SO good -- kind of like a sweet-and-sour pork without the sour. I dipped it in soy sauce because I loved the sweet and salty combo together. The dumplings were also really good. The wrapper was thin and delicious, but my boyfriend said he wished they had a little more protein filling and less leek. The green beans are always a hit. The only thing I probably wouldn't order again was the black bean sauce noodles. Maybe I just expected a different flavor, but to me they honestly tasted like regular lo mein. I'm also not a huge noodle person in general, so I'd probably skip them next time and order something else instead. Forgot to mention their prices are on point! Definitely recommend to any of the tourists. I think the weight is definitely worth it and I love being able to take home my leftovers and eating them for lunch and dinner the next day.

WHAT A GEM in SF Chinatown!…read more Hubby secured hard to get reservations and the very next day, I see a friend post her visit on IG Stories. I asked her, "What's good?" Her response... "Everything!" That's all one needs to say. At the entrance, clearly marked are signs reading, "Reservations" and "Walk-ins". Since we had reservations, we waited only a few minutes to get seated at the bar. The bar makes it easy to converse with your partner and to peer over as the fire from the range springs up from the kitchen. Our server brought us some "Free Bites" of roasted peanuts and smashed cucumbers. She was such a pleasant lady with quite the wit that made me laugh between courses. We ordered a full bottle of Negori sake. Note: if you do not finish the sake bottle, they cannot pack it to go for you, so drink up! Obviously, we couldn't order everything on the menu. For our first visit, we definitely wanted their special dish, Fried Squab. It was delicious! The meat was moist and the dipping salt with Sichuan peppercorn paired perfectly! Just don't focus too much on the visual... the head and claws. Hot Mustard Jellyfish Salad ~ I loved the "crunch" of the jellyfish and the hot mustard marinade was just spicy enough to start a slow burn up the nose. Beef Chow Fun Noodles ~ Delicious and so very savory. I was amazed at how flavorful this dish was without being salty. Clay Pot Rice w/Chinese Sausage & Bacon ~ Loved how the entire pot was seasoned nicely. The sauce did not only sit at the top, but penetrated deep down into the rice. XO Escargot w/Milkbread ~ I've only had French Escargot and these are just as good, if not better! Fish Fragrant Eggplant ~ Another savory and very umami dish. Red Bean Shaved Ice ~ Always a refreshing dessert. Dig in for the surprise in the center. We had such a nice, cozy dinner here. Even while at the bar, we never felt for lack of space. They paced the dishes out perfectly, so there was always room to eat and enjoy. Looking forward to returning and trying more items on the menu.

For the broccoli beef, the broccoli was nicely cooked and the meat was very tender. We really enjoyed the 606 house fried rice. It wasn't overly fried like most places and felt fresh. The mixture of proteins was also tasteful. Now for the pork dumplings, the presentation was nice and also tasted great with nice hints of shrimp.
