I was drawn in by the lava custard egg puff. $10 for an egg puff is quite steep but i thought i would give it a try. & while i was there i got the mango sago and grape slush. I did an online order so unfortunately my egg puff was sealed and really soggy by the time i got it. Nonetheless not their fault. The egg puff is actly quite good even soggy so i imagine its great fresh. I did not like the drinks though. The mango sago tastes very artificial, i rather make the drive to hui lau shan. Its not terrible, just not worth ordering again. The grape slush was EXTREMELY sweet even though i ordered less sweet. We didnt try our drinks until we got home but the grape was one of those drinks thats worth giving back to them and asking them to make a new one. I think its worth coming back to try the other drinks, they seem more well known for the milk teas. But the parking situation is terrible here. Even if you go into the neighborhoods. read more

Summary: Bland. Details: I'm not usually a fan of the "I really wanted to like this place" reviews, but this was one of those rare occasions where I actually did. The more unique (but still traditional) Taiwanese snacks are pretty hard to find here, and Taiwanese style wheel cake is especially uncommon: in fact, I think Dots is the only place I've ever seen it here. So, imagine my disappointment where the wheel cakes AND drinks we ordered were all pretty flavorless, which was NOT a problem we were expecting to encounter. Usually with these kinds of spots you run into the opposite problem of things being too sweet, if anything, but everything we tried here fell flat, especially when you order your drinks without sugar. One of my favorite all time boba spots on Ocean Ave besides Quickly. This spot is a cute cozy hole in the wall. I have tried others near by and nothing comes compares. I noticed more food options and now I must come by often to try out other things on their menu. Service was fast, you can tell the workers try their best and takes good care of this establishment. They work so diligently getting your order/s into perfection. My family and I got the Mango Coco Sago and the Green Thai Tea. We ordered a few items from Doordash. 3 drinks and 3 food items. Everything arrived correctly (yay!). Kudos for timely delivery + giving a complete order :) Here is the quick review of the food:- Fried fish siu mai - If you like crispy dumplings, this will be a lovely alternative for sure! But I'm a traditionalist - I love fish siu mai but I think they should be steamed, not fried. lol! Their chili sauce is lovely though. Taiwanese crispy chicken - the seasoning of the chicken is spot on. But I just think something is a little bit off in the coating - not sure if it's due to a takeout order so the steam from the take-out box trapped and ruining the coating, or if the oil temp to fry the chicken was slightly off. It's crunchy but there were spots that felt slightly undercooked. Sesame mochi eggettes - I was expecting the sesame mochi would be distributed evenly in each individual eggette/egg puff but it wasn't the case. So some of the eggettes just taste like the regular one... and I guess the pro of that is that you get two flavors in one. lol. I can tell the original plain eggettes is the real deal - every authentic Hong Kong taste. So if you aren't adventurous, get the original. Highly recommend their eggettes!! Drink wise - we ordered the mango coco sago, taro sago, and black sugar boba lava milk. The black sugar boba lava milk is their version of brown sugar latte you see in other boba cafe. If you aren't used to Asian's definitely of "not so sweet", don't go below "regular" in their sugar level. Their regular sweet is pretty much the "not so sweet" in Asian standard. Their "less sweet" is pretty much "not sweet". So if you want something without too much added sugar, go with "less sweet" and you should be good :D I can't wait to come back and visit this place in person in the future :) read more

I ended up trying the Seasame and salted yolk egg puffs. They put the flavoring in the center so it takes a few bites before you can actually taste it. I wish the salted yolk had a hint of sweet but it was quite salty. I definitely wanted water while eating there, so I took the rest to go to finish at home. The grape drink was good, although they didn't fill it all the way, it had a nice flavor and I liked the jelly they put at the bottom. Just wish half of it wasn't just foam (was not cheese foam either) Be prepared to wait awhile if you order any food, it takes time for them to make especially if there's any other orders in front. The service here just keeps getting better and better. As we were eating our snacks, the boss gave us a free drink (Saigon egg coffee) which my bf said is very strong and good. We ordered the HK milk tea, calamari, pandan eggette, and lava custard eggette. The pandan eggette is still my favorite flavor, but the lava custard was also very good and has a nice texture. Pandan egg puffs ($9) are yummy! Crispy on the outside and mochi on the inside. Pretty flavorful. If you like pandan and you like egg puffs, you can't go wrong with ordering this! I think it'd be better if there was coconut Lemon hk tea was nice and refreshing. Ordered it with less sugar and less ice and thought it was the right amount. It was not sour but a little bitter. Still not as good as the lemon/lime teas in china but hey it was free with a review so I'll take it :D The earl grey boba egg puff ($9) was not good. I was so excited to try out dots since all the items on the menu look so good, but was sadly disappointed. First - the drinks. We got the taro sago and the mango sago. Both were pretty mid. The taro one didn't have much flavor at all, but I did get it less sweet so that's probably on me. The mango one was better but still didn't taste like anything special. I personally like my mango sago with more texture between the mango chunks and the sago, and this just didn't really deliver. It looked like maybe their hk milk tea might be good, but we didn't get to try it. Second - the wheel cakes. I was most excited for these, but they were honestly so bad. We got the custard and the Nutella Oreo. Usually I love anything with custard inside, but this custard had literally no flavor. I was expecting a custard cream texture like you would get in an eclair, but it was more like custard in a Chinese custard bun. I'd still be good with that if it wasn't super bland and tasteless. It tasted almost like bland wet batter, to the point where I was wondering if the batter of the cake was not cooked through. The Nutella Oreo was better but still not great. I'm not sure what the texture of wheel cakes is normally supposed to be like but these were a bit dense to me and not very sweet, overall just didn't taste like much. So disappointing. Finally - the eggettes. These were def the star of the show. I love that they have diff filling options, which you don't see as often. We got the pork floss and salted egg yolk one, which was tasty! This place reminds me of Hong Kong slightly. Closest you can get to it but not exactly. Their store is small so don't expect to bring a whole group and be able to sit inside to chill. But still good enough for a couple of people to chill inside. It can get busy with uber and online orders. Just expect to wait for your drinks or snacks. My friends and I came in on a Thursday afternoon. I got the Osmanthus Milk Tea and my friends got the Winter Melon Tea and Grapes Tea Slush. Osmanthus was good, except I would strongly recommend getting less ice or even no ice. I'm a sipper, and it feels like I'm drinking water after 15 minutes. I've been meaning to try Dots Boba the last couple years. Finally got to try it, and it did not disappoint! The pandan eggettes were so very tasty. It was nice and crispy, and snapped right off. The black sesame mochi eggettes were soft and chewy, and I've never had anything like it! The curry fishballs and fish meat siumai were delicious with their house-made chili sauce, and reminded me of the ones at the food stalls along the streets of Hong Kong. The calamari had big chunks of actual squid! Unlike many spots where I taste mostly batter, you can really taste the ingredients here. The mango coco sago drink was also really good. Similar to a mango pomelo sago, but different. You can tell they use real ingredients since by the end of the drink, I had to open up the lid to eat the pieces of remaining mango that were too large for the straw, haha. My husband had the braised pork rice bowl combo with the Okinawa milk tea. I had a bite of the braised pork and more than a sip of his milk tea, both were yummy! 3.5 stars - Ordered on doordash and was overall was okay with the drinks. It's a tough pill to swallow when a boba drink costs $8 nowadays - let alone having to pay the extra fees on a convenient app like doordash... but this particular time we had some discount that offset those fees. I didn't get to photograph the black sesame bubble waffle - but it wasn't anything super special. My kids thought it was oreo at first, and that made me wish it indeed was an oreo flavored waffle instead. The boba had good chew, not too much flavor but good texture. Perhaps I will enjoy a visit to the storefront once i get fresh bubble waffles that didn't get soggy in its own steam. Thankful that this business is on doordash tho! The establishment was super busy at this time with kids coming here during their lunch break so I definitely recommend coming here outside of lunch hours. I think my wait time was around 30 minutes.. The NekoYaki is only available Fridays to Sundays so I had to try one of each. There were Corn & Cheese and Salty Egg and Pork Floss for the savory flavors and they turned out to be my favorite flavors! I have no feedback for these two flavors. My favorite sweet flavor would probably be the egg custard one which you can't really go wrong with. The taro one did not taste like taro.. I didn't even finish that one since it did not taste good :( The black sesame flavor one had a very mochi like consistency with a slight black sesame flavor so it tasted mostly just like unflavored mochi.. the Nutella and Oreos one was decent, it was very sweet to me though and it had an actual Oreo cookie inside. Overall, I would recommend the two savory flavors and it would be cool to try an actual taro flavor one and matcha or strawberry flavors if they could add those on the menu too! The establishment is small so depending on the time you go, you might have to wait outside for your order.
