Summary: Bland. Details: I'm not usually a fan of the "I really wanted to like this place" reviews, but this was one of those rare occasions where I actually did. The more unique (but still traditional) Taiwanese snacks are pretty hard to find here, and Taiwanese style wheel cake is especially uncommon: in fact, I think Dots is the only place I've ever seen it here. So, imagine my disappointment where the wheel cakes AND drinks we ordered were all pretty flavorless, which was NOT a problem we were expecting to encounter. Usually with these kinds of spots you run into the opposite problem of things being too sweet, if anything, but everything we tried here fell flat, especially when you order your drinks without sugar. Considering I didn't even order these on my recent trip back to Taiwan, I'm not sure I'd ever crave them enough to come back to Dots, unfortunately.

One of my favorite all time boba spots on Ocean Ave besides Quickly. This spot is a cute cozy hole in the wall. I have tried others near by and nothing comes compares. I noticed more food options and now I must come by often to try out other things on their menu. Service was fast, you can tell the workers try their best and takes good care of this establishment. They work so diligently getting your order/s into perfection. My family and I got the Mango Coco Sago and the Green Thai Tea. Both are equally delicious and everything tasted like it was freshly made to order. I will always recommend this boba spot. Don't hesitate to stop on by and give them a try.

Really liked their lava custard eggette. The custard was so addicting. I was initially planning to eat a few pieces but ended up eating almost the entire thing. It's pricey though for $10+tax. The one I had was not crunchy, fyi for those who prefer theirs crunchy.

We ordered a few items from Doordash. 3 drinks and 3 food items. Everything arrived correctly (yay!). Kudos for timely delivery + giving a complete order :) Here is the quick review of the food:- Fried fish siu mai - If you like crispy dumplings, this will be a lovely alternative for sure! But I'm a traditionalist - I love fish siu mai but I think they should be steamed, not fried. lol! Their chili sauce is lovely though. Taiwanese crispy chicken - the seasoning of the chicken is spot on. But I just think something is a little bit off in the coating - not sure if it's due to a takeout order so the steam from the take-out box trapped and ruining the coating, or if the oil temp to fry the chicken was slightly off. It's crunchy but there were spots that felt slightly undercooked. Sesame mochi eggettes - I was expecting the sesame mochi would be distributed evenly in each individual eggette/egg puff but it wasn't the case. So some of the eggettes just taste like the regular one... and I guess the pro of that is that you get two flavors in one. lol. I can tell the original plain eggettes is the real deal - every authentic Hong Kong taste. So if you aren't adventurous, get the original. Highly recommend their eggettes!! Drink wise - we ordered the mango coco sago, taro sago, and black sugar boba lava milk. The black sugar boba lava milk is their version of brown sugar latte you see in other boba cafe. If you aren't used to Asian's definitely of "not so sweet", don't go below "regular" in their sugar level. Their regular sweet is pretty much the "not so sweet" in Asian standard. Their "less sweet" is pretty much "not sweet". So if you want something without too much added sugar, go with "less sweet" and you should be good :D I can't wait to come back and visit this place in person in the future :)

Came here for their custard pie but they were sold out of all flavors which was such a bummer because that's what I really came for. It's nice they offer other unique items besides just boba. I ended up trying the Seasame and salted yolk egg puffs. They put the flavoring in the center so it takes a few bites before you can actually taste it. I wish the salted yolk had a hint of sweet but it was quite salty. I definitely wanted water while eating there, so I took the rest to go to finish at home. The grape drink was good, although they didn't fill it all the way, it had a nice flavor and I liked the jelly they put at the bottom. Just wish half of it wasn't just foam (was not cheese foam either) Be prepared to wait awhile if you order any food, it takes time for them to make especially if there's any other orders in front. We probably waited 25 min. Would love to come back and try the pie but otherwise maybe just the drinks

Write a review and show them to get a free HK milk or lemon tea. One of the kiosks was broken, so we had our order but the tap option to pay wouldn't work. Had to start over on the other kiosk, which was annoying. I was also disappointed to find out that the wheel pies are only available on the weekend. It was the main purpose of my visit... sad. Coco mango sago was good, although I wish it was colder.

The service here just keeps getting better and better. As we were eating our snacks, the boss gave us a free drink (Saigon egg coffee) which my bf said is very strong and good. We ordered the HK milk tea, calamari, pandan eggette, and lava custard eggette. The pandan eggette is still my favorite flavor, but the lava custard was also very good and has a nice texture. I ordered the calamari with less seasoning which was perfect for me. The tentacles are big and succulent. This is my favorite boba/snack spot in San Francisco!

Came here for the first time and got my all time favorite! A hot Jasmine green tea. I like to get it with 30% sugar, whole milk and no toppings. This definitely kept me warm on a night out at Ocean!

Pandan egg puffs ($9) are yummy! Crispy on the outside and mochi on the inside. Pretty flavorful. If you like pandan and you like egg puffs, you can't go wrong with ordering this! I think it'd be better if there was coconut Lemon hk tea was nice and refreshing. Ordered it with less sugar and less ice and thought it was the right amount. It was not sour but a little bitter. Still not as good as the lemon/lime teas in china but hey it was free with a review so I'll take it :D The earl grey boba egg puff ($9) was not good. The batter wasn't mixed properly so there were multiple solid chunks of concentrated tea leaves throughout, which we had to spit out. Pictures included. It was inedible and we ended up tossing it and spoke to the staff working, who offered to remake it or switch it out for something else which was nice My friend and her sister has tried the red bean, sesame, taro, corn cheese, and salted egg pork wheels and they both liked the corn cheese one the best!

    Taro sago and mango sago
    Winnie V.

I was so excited to try out dots since all the items on the menu look so good, but was sadly disappointed. First - the drinks. We got the taro sago and the mango sago. Both were pretty mid. The taro one didn't have much flavor at all, but I did get it less sweet so that's probably on me. The mango one was better but still didn't taste like anything special. I personally like my mango sago with more texture between the mango chunks and the sago, and this just didn't really deliver. It looked like maybe their hk milk tea might be good, but we didn't get to try it. Second - the wheel cakes. I was most excited for these, but they were honestly so bad. We got the custard and the Nutella Oreo. Usually I love anything with custard inside, but this custard had literally no flavor. I was expecting a custard cream texture like you would get in an eclair, but it was more like custard in a Chinese custard bun. I'd still be good with that if it wasn't super bland and tasteless. It tasted almost like bland wet batter, to the point where I was wondering if the batter of the cake was not cooked through. The Nutella Oreo was better but still not great. I'm not sure what the texture of wheel cakes is normally supposed to be like but these were a bit dense to me and not very sweet, overall just didn't taste like much. So disappointing. Finally - the eggettes. These were def the star of the show. I love that they have diff filling options, which you don't see as often. We got the pork floss and salted egg yolk one, which was tasty! Good amount of pork floss, crispy outside and slightly chewy inside, batter not too sweet. These were good!

Came to get the wheel cakes and end up getting a HK milktea also to try on this hot Sunday afternoon. Milktea was not thst sweet and very refreshing. Pin wheel cakes are only available Friday to Sunday. Got the Black Sesame, Egg Custard, corn cheese and the Salted Egg Pork. They make it fresh so it did take a little bit of time. Will come back to get the eggettes next time! They have a new Earl Grey flavor.

I love dots!! I keep coming back for their Okinawa milk tea because it's so good and just tried their NekoYaki cakes for the first time. What a perfect little snack! Love the corn cheese and custard ones!

    Jessica L.

Ordered the winter melon lemon tea w boba, original eggettes, complimentary hk milk tea with review. Eggettes- amazing! First contender to taste as good as the eggettes on Noriega. Sweet chewy crispy yum! Would try the other flavors 10/10 Winter melon lemon tea regular sweetness - boba nice sweet chewy generous amount. Tea was light liked the small pinch of lemon taste. Solid drink 8.7/10 Hk milk tea- classic strong black tea - not very sweet (less condensed milk) you can tell from the color how sweet to expect it to taste.

The drink took about 25-30 minutes to be prepared so don't come in a hurry!! I inserted the straw into the bottom of my cup and sucked. Nothing came out. I had to suck with more strength, due to the thick consistency of the drink. Finally, a gelatinous, slimy and sort of sweet substance came out of the tip of the straw. You do have to work for it due to the thickness of the drink, it's not liquidy. The actual matcha had a strong and smooth taste but to be honest was a little too concentrated which made it a bit astringent. This drink was truly a journey for the mouth. Usually a drink is about taste but this one was much more about tactility, or at least that's how it felt. Unfortunately the substance seemed to leave a strange metallic, unpleasant aftertaste that lasted for quite a while after finishing the drink. Texture: interesting taste:2.5 , it was new to me but i wouldn't have it again aftertaste : gross The next drink ordered was some sort of blue mango coconut concoction. Every menu item had a grandiose name so i'm not sure the exact one but it was a mango coconut slush. They white jelly substance was back and taking charge in the bottom of the drink. Along with the strange substance was a plethora of white tasteless balls. Not like traditional boba, but not bad. the flavor of the drink was good, a bit too coconuty for my liking but it was fine. The real problem was the radio of (balls + substance) : drink... way too high! i barley had any sips that had more drink then texture additives. The taste was good, but texture was off, and my stomach was not too happy after ingesting the whole thing in about 10 minutes.

Many times I would do the same with other egg tarts from other bakeries and the next day, you would see a crack in the middle, wrinkly custard, or the custard would peel away from the crust. Given that, it doesn't escape me that it took just a matter of months for my next visit to happen again. No real rhyme or reason as to why it didn't take nearly as long this time, but I'd be lying if I said that the Ube Halo Halo we tried didn't have something to do with it. While it ultimately wasn't what we ordered, the memory of what we had definitely got us excited to try more when my friends suggested coming here! Compared to the location over on Geary (and the one in Westminster, for what it's worth), this Bambu is better in just about every way. Sure, it helps that it's still relatively new (they opened about eight months ago?), but it's undoubtedly cleaner, feels a whole lot brighter, is a bit more conveniently located, and, most significantly, has way more parking available nearby. As for the menu, it had pretty much all of the usual offerings that you'd expect to find at any of their locations - che desserts, milk tea, fruit teas, waffles, macarons, and Vietnamese coffee. -- MANGO HALO HALO - Green Jello Base with Coconut Meat, Coconut Milk, Red Tapioca, Jackfruit, Egg Pudding, Crystal Boba, Mango Jelly, Pandan Jelly, Nata de Coco, and Topped with Mango Ice Cream While it didn't impress quite like the Ube Halo Halo did, this was still really good. Between all of the mangos (vs ube) and jellies, this felt a lot fruitier and lighter. However, it also didn't feel quite as creamy as the Ube one did, which I kind of missed. -- VIETNAMESE EGG COFFEE Sadly, the coffee is a pre-made mix, so they weren't able to modify the sweetness, but I appreciate that they added plain coffee to help dilute it. Even then, though, this ended up being really sweet. Loved how creamy the egg foam made this, though. Despite how I genuinely like this particular Bambu, I don't know how often I would come back since I don't typically crave che desserts and other places usually come to mind first when I think of where to get milk tea. However, should the urge or occasion arise to go to a Bambu again, I wouldn't hesitate to come back to this one, especially so that I can give their Yoonami Drinks, Smoothies, and Ube Mochi Waffle a try!
