This is authentic Guatemalan breakfast. I appreciate that they also have a wide variety on the menu so they also have American breakfast and sandwiches as well. All the food was so tasty and fresh. I went on a busy weekend morning and the service was pretty quick to bring my food out. I love the cloth table covers and tortilla warmers. I also love the hand paintings of different places in Guatemala. It's a very beautiful place. Definitely worth a try.

This place is a sleeper! Or maybe I've just been sleeping on this place. Husband and I were in the mood for a breakfast burrito, and we did some foodie searching and we found something way better. Cafe Guatemalteco is located in the heart of Excelsior and is deceptively hidden behind a bus stop. If you live the area, you might have walked past this place many a time and not even noticed. As soon as you walk in, you're going to be overstimulated by the menu. Lots and lots and lots of choices, BUT they have photos of the food, so if you're like me and panicked at the sight of a huge menu, just choose the photo that looks the yummiest They do have a display case with fresh juices, and not just orange juice. Detox juices and nutrient juices packed with players like Beets, carrots and apple. So delicious. The green hot sauce they have on the table is a winner. I am a hot sauce connoisseurs and I've never tried this one. Delicious. When our plates came, they're served with tortillas. These are unlike any tortilla I have ever had. They remind me of pupusas with no filling. A treat in and of itself. My favorite breakfast place I've had in awhile: churrasco Chapin. Get it, do it, eat it, enjoy.

While the food is good the girls working there do not really know what is on the menu. They gave us menus that were in Spanish and we had to find the English version but even on the English menu the description of two separate items were identical except one was pork and one is carne asada. When we asked the girl the difference she said the carne asada one was pork and the pork is he was carne asada which I knew was wrong information because I have had the carne asada plate before. There was a guy there who kept harassing us and asking for money. Honestly most restaurants would make the person leave but not this place. The guy kept asking over and over for more than 30 minutes. They really should ask him to leave and not let him bug the customers. We have children and this did not feel very safe. When I can I have given food or money to homeless people but this guy was not very friendly and he also did not look homeless but he should not keep asking over and over. It made us very uncomfortable and the restaurant does not feel like a safe environment to eat at. I have been getting take out there for years but not I do not know if I will come back.

I've been here about three times and I can say that my most favorite thing on the menu is the Horchata latte. It's amazing. They have a lot of options for food like American breakfast, Guatemalan and Mexican cuisine. The space is beautiful and clean. I feel like the music is a little too loud inside and they often play Christian music. Service is usually kind, but it's also a little slow.

Every time I visit the city to see my grandma, this place is a must. She always gets the plátanos with crema, queso, and beans. As for me, I just want to try everything on the menu! I usually order through the app, and the service on Uber Eats is always fast and neatly packed. I can't wait to bring my family here to dine in next time.

I had a cream cheese sesame bagel with bacon and I really liked how crispy the bacon was. Also got the horchata latte and it was good but not necessarily special compared to other cafes. There were lots of options on the menu and a self serving kiosk. They also sell snacks from Guatemala that you can't get just anywhere. My friend got a breakfast spinach wrap and stated "the potatoes were al dente". Would love to go back to try more entrees

I got a chorizo wrap but there an item in my food. Looks like it was a piece of foil maybe. Couldn't finish it after that.

This place is so convenient and they carry such a huge variety of food to try out. I mainly come here to get breakfast or sandwiches for lunch. They're super quick and the food is tasty and decently priced. I can't complain. The panini was thin and crispy. The ingredients all complimented each other and I would get it again. The breakfast wrap was hearty and delicious, it was packed full of egg and meat which definitely did not disappoint!

** Please Note...All orders are made fresh to order, so please be prepared to wait... You will not be disappointed*** If you're in a hurry, I recommend placing a phone order. This place is nicely decorated and always busy, especially on the weekends. The lady who took my order was super nice and helpful. Even with the small language barrier, we were able to make sure the order was correct. My go-to: 1. Chorizo breakfast wrap - so flavorful, and the avocado/guacamole is fresh. I love that they cut it in half. I usually split it with my husband, and we switch. 2. Bacon and sausage breakfast wrap - Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. It's the perfect portion of egg, meat, and potatoes. 3. Grilled cheese bagel with egg, bacon, and sausage- Yummy and cheesy goodness. It's pressed like a panini, so it's just like one mashed combo. Each bite is the perfect bite. 4. Platanos con crema - I love platanos, and this is perfectly grilled and sweet. I don't even use the crema. I really want to try the coffee one of these days and possibly try other dishes.

Great service and fresh food! I ordered a breakfast wrap with bacon (asked for it extra crispy) and it was fantastic! Pretty simple, but great ingredients that are well-balanced: scrambled egg, cheese, avocado, potatoes, and choice of meat.

Like everywhere else in SF, you have to pay for street parking but it's free after 6pm! The vibes inside are of a typical coffee shop and there is a good amount of tables and seats! The barista makes each drink one at a time, so it could take a while to order and get your drinks, but it just shows that they are very intentional with their drinks! I was super excited to find out that Ballast Coffee is actually a Filipino coffee shop that serves Barako Coffee, which I believe they source from the Philippines. They also sell barako bean roast blends for $20 in case you wanted to make it at home! Since they use Filipino barako beans, I had to order their Ube iced latte and Ube hot chocolate! The coffee had a slightly fruity yet chocolatey undertone that made it really delicious with the Ube! I do think that the coffee had a lighter taste to it, so it let the ube taste stand out more. My favorite was the Ube hot chocolate because it was super decadent and warming! I'll definitely be back at Ballast Coffee to study more and to also try their Ube Mocha as well as other drinks!

This cafe is really nice, with a beautiful faux tree in the center of the room and comfy chairs all around for you to chill or study. Most people that come in are either WFH or just enjoying their food / drinks quietly, although there is music that is playing from the speakers. I was on a WFH meeting and actually found that no one else could hear the music on the other side, which was great! Keep in mind that it's best if you have your own hot spot if you are WFH. The bathroom was also a single stall, very clean and nice, and they also had sanitary items for $0.25 from a vending machine inside the bathroom. In terms of drinks, I love a chai latte and this place exceeded my expectations! This will have to be my new favorite spot to get chai, where they had a perfect balance between the milk ratio as well as the chai, not being too spiced, but just a perfect amount. I did notice that if you pay cash it was slightly cheaper, so keep that in mind when you do come here! I also got a beef empanada and it was delicious. They warmed it up perfectly for me and brought it over to my table where I was working from and for my first time here, I would say I had an awesome experience! Would definitely come back again :)
