This place has been a fixture in the this neighborhood for a number of years. I could remember, as a teen, how my parents would drive past this neighborhood landmark, as they heading towards the downtown area of the city. So, it was no surprise to see it still standing strong, now that I'm an adult. I Came here for a late breakfast with a friend. She praised customer service and the delicious food here. How it was family owned and they stayed true to their customers by keeping prices affordable. The neighborhood clearly loves this places so, I could I not try it for the first time. The place has just a few tables. It's felt classic! There was table top seating in front of the open kitchen for that classic diner feel. Although it's a smaller dining space. There were booths with bench style seats. It truly made it feel as though it was straight from a time capsule. We were greeted warmly and seated within seconds of walking in. I ordered a spinach omelette, with hashbrowns and wheat toast. My friend, ordered the sunny side up eggs, with corned beef, hash browns, and sourdough toast. The chef definitely delivered with the food. The food really feels authentic, like it came straight from your grandmother's kitchen. All the staff are super chill, and service was quite fast. I loved how relaxed and cozy it felt inside. Although, it closes at 2 PM. Coming here for a late (11 AM), breakfast is the ultimate clutch feeling. I'd just had oral surgery, so I needed something easy. I went for the grits and a breakfast burrito--classic combo for a quick, comforting bite. A friend ordered a steak, and wow, it smelled amazing. I had to take a bite! Even after my surgery, the steak was flavorful, juicy, and cooked just right. It really hit the spot and satisfied my hunger. Came here on a Sunday morning,  parking wasn't too bad, and it wasn't super busy.   Inside the place was clean and simply decorated. I was greeted and helped right away.      The prices were reasonably priced,  pretty standard for anywhere you go.   I ordered 5 items, and it was a little over $100, so I'm not complaining. I'm not going to lie. I double-checked my order because people complained about being double charged... then again, those people only have left 1 review or a handful at that.. so you already know..  the only thing different is,  I paid with card and they charged an admin fee for $4 and some change.   I do know credit card companies charge a fee for using their machine.  I'm guessing they are just passing it on to the customer. Corned beef hash and eggs w/ house potatoes - It was tasty and pretty much what you would expect. House potatoes were well cooked and seasoned Country Fried Steak and eggs combo - Standard country fried steak.  Portion was ok,  had a little crunch. I liked that they placed the gravy on the side Meat omelette - Has ham, bacon, and sausage.   Tasty and not greasy from all the meat. Hashbrowns were nice and crunchy Pancake combo - Good pancakes and combo       Overall,  the food was pretty basic.  Didn't stand out in any way.  Not like any flavor explosions in your mouth.    I do want to come back and try the chilaquiles, breakfast burrito,  and french toast combo. read more

Ordered via Doordash. Chef's Special with Grits - came with 4 halves of toast that were too burnt for me. Chef's Special had a slab of cheese on top of the omelette which sits on a thin layer of oil. Grits were bland and came with a small puddle of butter. The omelette was generously filled with the described ingredients but unfortunately, it was too oily and left me feeling nauseated after this meal. read more

Randomly popped in here for lunch as I waited for my dog to finish her 2+ hour grooming session nearby (she's fancier than me!). It's a pretty cool location, and I totally get the comments about the great view. The space is kind of elevated on top of a steep-ish street, and the walls are basically entirely windows, so you get a panoramic view of the distant hills on one side and the busy freeway on the other. I would love to start my mornings here every day with a cup of coffee and some Belgian waffle! Juan the chef is really nice; he recommended the corned beef with eggs benedict, which was delicious! It came with a side of potatoes (just ok) and fried bananas (great!). All in all, a very satisfying meal with friendly staff. Diners are my favorite type of restaurant. I love to try diners every where I go. I was greeted with a warm welcome. Loved the old school decor. I had a typical 2 egg breakfast and it was hands down just what I was looking for. The fluffiest hash browns! They serve the typical breakfast lunch & dinner but little things like they make their ranch dressing from scratch was impressive. Pricing was also fare. I'm not sure if the team working there is family but they sure worked together as if they were & treated me as a valued guest. I got the best of both worlds eating here. MIL's request for her birthday breakfast. 8am on a Saturday and it's a little less than half full so we got to choose our spot. Definitely where the locals go. Sometimes we walk over but with the rain, we drove in. We sat at a booth with a view of Bayshore Blvd below and San Bruno Mountain in the distance. Pretty straight forward diner breakfast fare, huge and satisfying portions, and friendly, efficient service. They make sure your coffee mug is full. My usual is the Bayside Omelette (yummy hot links inside) and vary the sides depending on my mood - today it was hash browns and sourdough toast. Eric gets the Country Fried Steak and Eggs more often than not and MIL likes the Denver Omelette. Leaving a little before 10am, most of the booths are full! There is a small parking lot adjacent to the cafe and when that is full, parking along Hester is the next option. read more

I was looking to grab a breakfast sandwich after getting into the SFO airport and I'm thankful to have come across this little cafe! The staff was very friendly, food was great and service was fast. We've always passed by this cafe to and from going to the gym, and so finally on a Sunday morning we decided to drop by and dine at Bayside Cafe. A note on parking - the lot beside it is probably shared with the church right next door, so if it's full you might want to just to street parking, which was plenty. It's comfy, old school, and has a community vibe to it - like you KNOW at least half the people who are eating inside with you are regulars that come often. Staff greeted us warmly, got us a booth seat quickly despite being packed, and were very attentive. Since service was running a little late, our server made sure we were comfy and kept us up to date. And now for my full admission - they have the best breakfast potatoes I have ever had. Hands down. Portions are big, so bring your appetite! Now Open for dinner Thursday-Saturday till 9. They have a dinner menu too. Hibachi (chicken, steak or seafood), Fajita plates, and some other stuff. They also serve their regular menu. We had the Hibachi Chicken and Steak Fajitas. Portions were good and filling. It was a great diner meal.... But I gotta say I'm most excited to comeback for diner breakfast at dinner time. I've seen this place hundreds of times when I'm on my way to 3rd St. But a friend said lets go to breakfast...here. I walked in, and it was crowded. It's well-lit but nothing super special. The door has a crack in it or looks more like a bullet went through it, which was a little off putting. Probably not a place I would have gone to. I ordered oatmeal & toast. Oatmeal needed a lot more time to cook. I tried to eat as much as I could, but it was hard. Nothing special about the toast. Something I could get at Safeway. Although a friendly neighbor, this is the third time I am disappointed going to this place. I kept telling him butter on the side and well done, and he probably just didn't listen and ignored the comment and did not even tell the chef. He kept coming back and made fun of me that my salsa also has butter. Making fun of people that have allergies is way too much crossing the limit. It's a greasy spoon and I love a good greasy spoon but their prices don't match their quality. It's over priced for just the food. Looking around I can't imagine people come in to pay those prices for the ambiance, the back door is filthy, they serve on super scratch plates. These are things that get noticed when prices are high. If it was reasonably priced I would probably go back because it's in my neighborhood. Unfortunately, i was disappointed with my visit. Some might not see this little cafe on the hill. It has a old school vibe to it. Those in the neighborhood of Visitation Valley know of this cafe. My father took me to this location as a child, it always has a place in my heart. The food might be pricey to some people but have you seen how much things are now. Support a local business. I'm not saying go every day, just go to try it's food. The staff have changed over the years but they are super friendly. My brother & I would go there twice a month. RIP Sailiuta Schwenke. It was me & his little get away to eat breakfast & talk about anything new. I haven't been able to go to the cafe since my brother passed away this year. Overall you'll have a great experience.
