Pinhole Coffee is a cozy and artsy neighborhood coffee spot, tucked in the Cortland strip of Bernal Heights. With all the hype of the reviews, I wanted to love this spot so bad, but I thought it was okay. COFFEE: 7/10 (Iced Vanilla Latte) SERVICE: 8/10 AMBIANCE: 9/10 COFFEE: 7/10 I ordered an Iced Vanilla Latte with Oatmilk and thought it was quite watered down. I was not quite a fan of the oatmilk that they used, as it left an interesting aftertaste. I do appreciate how they rotate quality beans and take care in their brewing process, but I just felt my drink could have been stronger and less watered down. I also felt that for the price I paid, the size of the cup was quite small. SERVICE: 8/10 The staff here is friendly and welcoming. They seem genuinely knowledgeable and take time to make your drink right, even when the line gets a little long on weekend mornings. The overall vibe from the team adds to the neighborhood charm. AMBIANCE: 9/10 I love the artwork here. There is so much to look at from left to right and all sides of the cafe. It adds a nice touch to the vibes. The space itself is cozy and bright with cool decor and art, giving it a lively yet relaxed atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile. Seating a bit limited, but there is more seating outside. Whenever I'm hanging out in Bernal I always grab some coffee or tea from Pinhole Coffee. I love their tea lattes - specifically matcha, hojicha, and chai. There's plenty of seating indoors and they have a parklet and sidewalk seating outdoors. The decor is cool, music is mellow, and just good ol' neighborhood coffee shop vibes all around. read more

Good coffee really great service super nice people. I used to go here when it was first opened over a decade ago. The coffee is tended towards the fruity floral types and not the strong coffee chocolate flavored types which is my preference. So depends on what you're looking for.The prices weren't great but then again it seems to be in line with all the other coffee shops so everything's just getting more expensive. Unfortunately, they do not have Wi-Fi, but I think they are sort of going for the we're not a office workspace vibe. read more

Overall the ambiance is really calming and appreciate that there wasn't a long line. I ordered a chai latte (non-fat) and matcha latte (whole milk) and both were great. Pinhole is absolutely poppin on a Saturday morning. The line was semi-long? There's a beautiful outdoor parklet space to enjoy your morning as well as indoor seating. The space is decorated with vibrant colors and the collage art was so stunning!! I got a dirty chai and almond croissant. I really enjoyed the chai and croissant. The croissant was more soft, layered buttery, flaky. Chai was spiced well! I think the prices were pretty high for the coffee/treats-the location is serving boujee Bernal locals so this makes sense. Came here early one morning on my way up to the city and tried the matcha latte. Prices are steep but baristas are some of the kindest and the cafe interior is warm and cozy. I could see this being a cute study spot on the weekends or a nice place to grab coffee with a friend. Probably one of the best cortados I've had in SF! I came here on early Sunday morning. Store was surprisingly busy, and there seem to be a ton of locals grabbing their morning fix. Good amount of seating as well, but no WiFi. Staff is also super friendly! The cortado was perfect. Milk was pulled beautifully, awesome mouthfeel, and the espresso was also great. They're no nonsense drink your coffee and don't work on your laptop here kind of business. There are no tables and chairs for that. In fact, there's no WiFi either. My favorite coffee shop in Bernal Heights. The barista was helpful and friendly, and helped me pick a delicious pastry (they all looked so good). I spent an hour sipping my latte and watching customers come in. It's clear this is a neighborhood favorite and that the Pinhole staff know many of their customers by name. It was vibrant and bustling inside, and they also had cute merch (I got a mug as a souvenir). I can't recommend this place enough. read more

Cute coffee shop. Nice ambiance and good service. I came here with my boyfriend on a Tuesday afternoon. It wasn't too busy, and there was no line. I ordered an iced Ginger Snap (seasonal flavor, I believe) Latte, and my boyfriend ordered a Sparkling Iced Matcha. The cups are quite small so the drinks are on the more expensive side. I liked my drink. The flavors were subtle. The coffee was good overall. It was a nice cup of latte. Both my boyfriend and I did not quite like the Sparkling Iced Matcha. Personally, I'm not a big fan of sparkling water so that was my reason for not liking the drink. For my boyfriend, it was the flavor combination. But hey, that's just us. I have been to Pinhole coffee four times now. Experimenting with different items on the menu, such as the piccolo, a latte, cappuccino, scone and the Matcha latte (very smooth compared to other Matcha's I've tried. I think that the baristas use a syrup rather than a powder). The music is always recognizable to me when I walk into this café! They play stuff that really tickles my ears. Very cool vibe to the place! The decorations that are around the edges of the interior feature cameras, pins, posters and a readable menu. Very San Francisco niche designs in the bathroom too! The prices are steep for what you were getting in a cup, they emphasize quality over quantity, which is clear from the flavor of each beverage I've ordered. They have between two and three baristas at any time. Service is between five and 10 minutes for two drinks if it's moderately busy. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor seating has mostly very low tables, so be prepared to bend your spine if you dine inside. Worth the visit if you're in the area or a few miles away. read more

My partner also got a pour over, and they gave him free shots of drip coffee as well. I love Pinhole!!! I live in Oakland, but our new favorite family outing is a hike through Bernal Heights park, followed by drinks and bagels at Pinhole. The coffee is so smooth - if you like the sour, highly acidic coffee, this won't be your favorite. I absolutely love their tea options - I had a caffeine free savory barley tea and it's such a relief to have a good caffeine-free option! On this last visit, they were happy to ice it for me. They sell Midnite Bagels, and if haven't tired them, go grab a bag. They are fermented bagels and have a unquiet taste; they make their own cream cheese as well. For the kids, they sell a "kid-cciano" which is steamed milk and honey. The service is so nice - loved the whole neighborhood vibe! read more

Two stars for the delicious chocolate cake with white icing! Loved that. But no stars for the poor customer service. My partner and I ordered 2 drip coffees and both were just luke warm. When I mentioned this at the counter, the response was nothing along the lines of "oops" or "sorry about that." Instead I got, "we really can't do anything about that now." What?? I'm supposed to be grateful to you for my $4 small cup of cold coffee? I ended up getting an Americano which came out scalding hot, and was further surprised at the side table to discover that there were no sleeves for hot beverages, no sugar substitutes (only white sugar), and nothing but half-n-half. I'm certainly not anxious to come back here for the cold attitude. OK, maybe I'll be back for the cake. read more

This place was a wonderful surprise! Before leaving town, I decided to look for a local coffee shop for my friend and I to grab a drink. Driving through a cute neighborhood was not what we expected, but it was nice. As soon as we saw all the art on the walls outside, we knew this place was different! A super cute coffee shop that screams small business and homey vibes! The staff was extremely friendly (and all wore face masks which I can appreciate). The lighting was a bit dim so I am not sure this is the best place to come and work, but it is definitely a solid choice for a quick catch up with friends. They have an extensive menu full of traditional hits (drip, cold brew, matcha) and some specialty drinks (sparkling matcha). I personally ordered the sparkling iced Americano and it was DELICIOUS!
