After seeing Excelsior at the Coffee Fest 2025, my wife wanted to drop by here to try their coffee again. It didn't disappoint. Shop is on the smaller side, but does have some minimal seating (one large table and a few bar seats). Pastries, tea and coffee, all available, and a bathroom in the back. Great for grab and go. Not great if you're hoping to sit and chat. Service was fast and efficient. Coffee was hot and delicious. My wife enjoyed her horchata latte. I got the hot chocolate and it was also surprisingly good for a non-coffee option with latte art on the hot chocolate and nice foam top. Their everything croissant was especially delicious, with flaky layers of pastry and a small dab of herbed cream cheese hidden in the center. Nestled on the bustling Mission St, it seems to be a neighborhood staple with students and families alike. I ordered the Ube Matcha and a Ube (pop?) Tart to go. Inside, the shop is on the smaller side with a singular table in the back and some window seating up front. Service was nice and provided me with recommendations on pastries when I asked. I really like the Ube Matcha! Matcha flavor wasn't too strong, but allowed for the Ube flavor to come through. Creamy, not too sweet. Definitely up there on one of my favorite matchas in the city! Stopped by here on a Saturday and there was a decent amount of people at the cafe. We ordered the matcha latte, breakfast burrito, Ube poptart and banana bread. The matcha latte wasn't anything spectacular or different from what I usually get at other spots. The eggs in the breakfast burrito was a bit runny/ watery? But the hot sauce on the side made the flavors really come together! It was a bit of a wait for the breakfast burrito. The Ube poptart was different -something we haven't tried before so we liked it; it had a nice texture to it and wasn't soggy. The banana bread was my fave - nice texture and flavors! I had high hopes for Excelsior Coffee since they have their own beans, blends, and other bags of coffee in store and online. I like the vibe of the coffee shop, with a good theme and unique decor, it definitely differentiates itself from other coffee shops in this regard. I was a little disappointed in the horchata latte I got. It felt a little watered down. The espresso flavor wasn't as strong as I would have hoped, maybe a single shot and not double? And the horchata flavor didn't have the nutty, cinnamon, and sweetness that is typical of an actual horchata. The idea is unique and I was super excited, but wasn't quite there on execution. Visited on a Sunday morning with some friends, one of whom has been coming for years and kept mentioning that this was his favorite coffee shop in the city. Finding street parking near the shop was surprisingly easy, which was a nice bonus. We arrived around 9:30 AM and encountered a short line, but it moved quickly. The shop is small but offers some seating, and the staff was very kind and attentive. I didn't try their pastries, but they had a nice selection that looked delicious. I ordered a cappuccino, which was good--slightly more acidic than I typically prefer, but still tasty. I found it to be on the milkier side. This is my friend's favorite coffee shop, so I had to come check it out. There was a decent line at 9:30 AM. The interior is very cool with its bold, graphic style and neon lights. There's a little bit of seating my the front window facing the street and also a bigger table in the back. The owners are so nice and friendly, they very clearly care about their customers and regulars. They have lots of pastries in the display case and more treats in the fridge with plenty of ube flavored goodies. Next time I will try! I got the Ube Matcha Latte, which only comes iced. I found that the matcha settled rather quickly and it was mostly milk. The ube flavor did not come through at all, which was disappointing. For how expensive it was, I expected a lot better. Ube Matcha Latte - I honestly wanted to love this, but I truly did not :/ The matcha was too bitter and even though I mixed the drink, there was a lack of ube flavor 1/5. I've given this place about 3 tries and each time was worse than the last. Their drinks are not good at all. I don't understand the hype.

I wanted to like this place so bad!! It's close to home and seemed like a nice place to study but I will not be coming back. The drinks weren't bad, which is why I gave them 2 stars instead of 1. We ordered the chagaccino and horchata latte. The spinach and feta pastry wasn't bad but wasn't great. I was mostly excited to try their ube pastries. There were so many to choose from and I couldn't choose so we ordered the ube pastry box. The first box I noticed a short white hair on the cheesecake so I asked if I could get another box. It happens, the place is dog friendly so maybe a dog was there when they were putting the box together, no big deal. The second box we opened had mold growing in multiple spots on the cheesecake. I was so sad to see it but so happy I noticed before I tried anything in the box. I had to ask for them to just refund me because at that point I couldn't trust that any of the ube pastries were safe to eat. Was told about this place by a coffee / espresso aficionado who runs his own shop and spoke super highly about the quality of espresso drinks. From cortados to cappuccinos to mochas to straight espresso, everything that the baristas make here is done to incredible quality standards. We came to this cafe because that had some UBE goodies. We found UBEmisu & UBE treats leches cake slices. Mmmm they were so good, especially the tres leches cake! Super moist, indeed. My favorite pastry on this visit was the spinach and feta pastry. There's a clean restroom in the back (code required). There were 2 baristas working behind the counter. Great brightness in the store. Simple menu with reasonable prices. Super quick and very communicable staff when waiting in line. Ordered a americano ($4) and mocha($5.75). Starting off, the mocha is more on bittersweet chocolate, so if you prefer sweet, the mocha is more on the bittersweet chocolatier side. The americano has a great chocolate note with some fruit, maybe citrus notes. Overall, good cup of coffee. The wall decoration is for sale, awesome to see the community pieces around. read more

very disappointed. I spent $15 on a small Horchata latte. I had asked the barista for recommendation. She recommended this one. Doesn't taste like Horchata. I asked for a cold foam, which which was an extra three dollars. My small drink came out to $15, which was fine if I was getting the experience I was hoping for. I got my drink, and there was little to no cold foam, and it was purple which I initially requested just cold foam, didn't realize that their cold foam was just one specific one which was ube . wish she would have clarified that. The whole time making my order she just seemed annoyed. Don't know why. When I got my drink, there was little to no cold foam. I was confused as to why it looked purple at the top but even still, there was little specs and purple it wasn't a cold foam like how I've seen in the reviews. especially for 3 dollars i would hope it was thick at the top. but wasn't. Service is always excellent. I appreciate their gluten free pastry options. However, one time, I asked if their rice crispy treats were gluten free and the worker said yes. Unfortunately, it had chunks of Oreo cookies in it which contain gluten. Thankfully I did not get sick but someone with severe celiac allergies may not be as lucky. I wasn't able to finish that sweet treat but did nonetheless, I was able enjoy my delicious chai latte. I usually order their coffee (black), a chai latte, or a matcha latte. Oh man. I can't believe I'm gonna do it. Yup, I give Excelsior Coffee a 3 star rating, and I am just as shocked as you possibly are. Especially to those who have highly rated this coffee spot. For starters, I truly adore and appreciate the concept of Excelsior Coffee. Also, supporting stores like Excelsior Coffee that has so much culture strongly displayed throughout the store. However, I think that's what bummed me out the most. Considering all the great "at first sight" concepts I saw as I walked into the store, the quality of the drinks and food was not what I was expecting. The display of the drinks and ESPECIALLY the baked goods look very very promising. Respectfully, it was not what I was expecting. **What I ordered: -Iced Hojicha Latte -$22 Ube Baked goods Platter Considering the sizes of these drinks, they are p r i c e y. I believe there is only one size per drink and they are quite small. My hojicha latte tasted watered down and I barely tasted the roasted depth flavors of Hojicha. Now....the baked goods. Oh how much I wanted to love these promising looking treats. For some odd reason, I could not taste the prominent flavors of Ube. The color is there. However, each bite I took was just a flavor of baked sweetness....but no Ube flavor. I know my Ube flavors and tastes. Unfortunately, it wasn't there. My friend had me try her Pandan flavored baked good. The pandan flavor was barely there as well. Parking is H O R R I B L E. In the busy streets of Mission, it is definitely hard to find parking. I first learned of Excelsior coffee after grabbing breakfast bagels nearby a year or so ago, so when I had some time to kill before heading downtown I decided to stop by this morning to grab some coffee. It's a very cool spot indoors, there's a large table with some chairs towards the back as well as a few window seats if you wanted to sit and enjoy your drink. My eyes were on the horchata latte, which when I was going to sub oat milk I learned is made with almond and rice milk. They have a lot of delicious looking pastries as well but I passed on those today. It took about 5 minutes or so for my drink to be ready and I took it to go. I appreciate when a spot doesn't make lattes with boiling hot milk, so I was able to enjoy the latte right away and it was great. Not super sweet but nicely balanced. Their coffee drinks range from about $4-6 and I think it was very reasonably priced. Would definitely return. read more

I got here right at opening having come for the ube treats. I ended up getting a horchata latte with oat milk and an ube pop tart. I'd just finished an intense workout, so this was technically breakfast. I felt like a kid again ordering the pop tart, but it was cute, so I couldn't resist, and it wasn't that expensive. I thought the latte was just okay, and none of the lids fit the cup perfectly, so I had to be extra careful carrying it. Had this coffee spot bookmarked for some time. However, it'll be a hard pass next time. It's a little shop, and I appreciated the decor, it stood out to me a lot. Service & friendliness : 2/5. It was literally just to take my order. Even after I ordered a brownie ube & poptart (warmed up), she basically forgot about it and I had to remind her awkwardly. I would say the two workers were talking more than working or interacting with the customers. And there was only 2-3 other people inside. Iced Matcha latte: 1/5 I only took 3 sips and if I have to force myself to like a matcha latte then most likely it isn't as good. I'm not sure what it is and if making it sweeter would have been better. I always get iced matcha lattes at many spots but this one just wasn't it. So sadly threw it after my few sips.
