Grossly overpriced items for the quality of food and drink here (I'm talking almost $20 for a muffin and a drink) I give points for spacious seating, clean bathroom, some okay pastries, and cute birds But surfaces are often sticky, the serve yourself water station could use a cleaning, and there are often flies inside the cafe and within the food display

Came here just for a quick cup of coffee and chai. The drinks were okay nothing spectacular. The staff seemed stressed or in a bad mood. They have lots of seating inside and even birds in a cage! Which was so cool. My cappuccino wasn't the best quality coffee I've had and I didn't finish it. The chai was spicy gingery and good there was okay street parking

As a resident of Ingleside, I've been to Java on Ocean quite a few times and have brought friends along on multiple occasions. I usually enjoy myself there. The ambience is great, bright, welcoming windows, plenty of seating, and lots of beautiful art and plants that make the space feel cozy and inviting. The food and drinks are good as well. My favorites are the veggie falafel and the feta tomato bagel. However, if you're on a budget, this may not be the best spot. The prices for both food and drinks are fairly high, which makes it hard to be a regular, especially for students like me and my friends. While the atmosphere and seating are nice, studying there can be a bit of a gamble if you need Wi-Fi. Even though there are plenty of outlets, which is a big plus, I personally haven't experienced reliable Wi-Fi during my visits. If you're looking for a dependable place to study or work, you may want to consider another location. Overall, Java on Ocean is a great local spot for a first visit or for meeting up and having a good conversation. That said, it doesn't feel like a place most people would return to regularly unless they live within walking distance.

Food is solid. Don't expect to be blown away or disappointed. Large variety of choices, especially with sandwiches. No pork on the menu. The atmosphere is great if looking for a place to study or catch up with friends. There are available outlets in the walls if you are looking to charge a device. Service is quick and the staff are nice.

Cute coffee shop that has good lighting and plenty of tables and chairs for your studying, reading, and hanging out needs. Great selection of treats and pastries, and canned/bottled drinks in their fridges. Coffee a bit pricey but still yummy. Barista was very nice!

My family and I have been coming here for YEARS! It's a spacious cafe that has a great selection of breakfast, brunch, and lunch options. They have amazing drinks and smoothies as well. On top of it all, they have beautiful art and vibrant plants throughout their space. Definitely one of my go to spots to study in between classes.

I'm always hunting for spots like this because I have a weakness for those over-the-top, Instagram-worthy desserts that look like diabetes in a dish. Like most places in this genre, A Buttercup is small, modern, and minimalist with limited seating. If you plan to go, aim for off-hours unless you enjoy waiting in line for sugar. The decor is cute and trendy, perfect for photos if that's part of your dessert ritual. As they say, "you eat with your eyes first," and when it comes to presentation, this place definitely gets an A+. The desserts look stunning and set high expectations. Unfortunately, that's where things started to crumble. It's like going to see your favorite artist live. You've watched the videos, memorized the songs, and paid for the experience. But instead of the electric performance you imagined, you get someone lip-syncing and barely connecting with the crowd. That was this place in dessert form. We ordered the Mango Bingsoo on our first visit, and when it arrived, we were surprised by how small the portion was. The guy next to us even looked over and said, "Whatever that is, I'm getting that next time." He shouldn't have. The Bingsoo looked great but was bland, and the "snow" was more chunky ice than soft shave. The Thai Tea Roti was also not what I expected. It came with Thai tea ice cream and sauce alongside a roti that was fried to a crunch. Interesting idea, just not the best execution. The sauce and ice cream needed a stronger Thai tea flavor to balance the crispy roti, and the flavors never quite came together. Overall, A Buttercup nails the aesthetics but misses the flavor. If you're here for the photos, you'll be happy. If you're here for the taste, you'll leave with a full camera roll and an unsatisfied sweet tooth.

Service was nice and prompt. We ordered one of their new items. The salted duck egg bingsoo, as well as a Thai tea lava cake. The Thai tea lava cake was rich and cocoa-y, pairing so well with the Thai tea ice cream. The star of the show, however, was definitely the shaved ice. The portion size was nice and large, and the mochi on top was so soft and chewy. The salted duck egg topping tasted like the filling in the lava egg yolk buns from dim sum, so earthy and rich and sweet with a perfect umami hit. It paired perfectly with the milky, not too sweet shaved ice. I love salted duck yolk everything and this is yet another item to add to that list! Naya is a bit pricy but so worth it for that bingsoo.

It wasn't the warmest, but it was quick and efficient, which makes sense considering how many customers they were serving. The bingsoo was smaller than I expected, but it tasted good. Overall, the desserts were solid, but I did feel they were a little pricey for the portion size, especially the bingsoo. I'd come back if I was craving dessert late at night, but I'd probably avoid the busiest hours.

We originally went to the location near Union Square, thinking we'd be able to grab pastries and hot chocolate, only to realize it's primarily a retail shop with chocolate bars and merchandise. We ended up making our way to the Valencia Street location, and I'm so glad we did. We learned that it used to be the original factory before they outgrew the space. Production has since moved a few blocks away, and now this location offers classes, a café, and plenty of chocolate treats. While we were there, a chocolate-making class was in session, and it was fun to watch part of it. The instructor even came over to chat with us and answer a few questions, which was such a nice personal touch. We ordered the brownie bite flight along with a hot chocolate, and both were fantastic. The brownie flight was rich, flavorful, and a fun way to sample different chocolates. The hot chocolate came with a tiny cookie that was absolutely delicious. At first, we were a little disappointed because we thought our hot chocolate was supposed to come with a marshmallow and didn't see one. When we mentioned it, the instructor smiled and showed us a toppings station we had completely missed. There were homemade marshmallows, flavored sugar cubes, and other little extras you could add yourself. He even encouraged us to take a few extra marshmallows, and they were some of the best I've ever had. One thing to know before you go is that Dandelion Chocolate focuses on high-quality chocolate that isn't overly sweet. If you're expecting the sugary milk chocolate flavor of a candy bar, this is a different experience. The chocolate has a richer, more complex flavor, and we really enjoyed trying something different. Between the friendly staff, delicious treats, and unique experience, I'd definitely recommend adding it to your itinerary--just make sure you head to the café location if you're looking for food and drinks!

The japanese milk coffee was less bitter/strong compared to typical coffee ice cream, probably hence the milk. I think I would've enjoyed a stronger aroma of coffee flavor more, but it was still yum! The genmaicha is like a green tea with toasted rice, so it had a nutty flavor to it. I really don't think you're going to go wrong with any flavor because they all tasted so amazing to me. A burst of coconut and the saltiness that paired so well together. There's a reason this flavor has a permanent spot on the menu and isn't just a seasonal flavor! My second choice was the Funky Miso. I guess I love the sweet and savory combo. Also delicious! But not quite the flavor explosion in my mouth like the Salty Kaya. This one really grew on me after several spoonfuls of it.
