Loved this spot! The staff were super friendly. A little kid came in with his mom and was obviously a regular. It was so sweet to see their interaction with him. The bacon cheddar egg bagel was SO good. I think the bagel might have been toasted a touch too long, but not a deal breaker. I also bought two m&m cookies and they were very hard to chew. I want to preface this by saying that I was rooting for this place. I wanted to support small business because it's located next to a Starbucks, but man. This is place was so disappointing. I ordered an apple fritter and a combination banh mi and it came to $19. Highway robbery. Next, the apple fritter tasted like it was double deep fried in really, REALLY old oil. I could not finish it after two bites. I threw it out. The banh mi was all daikon and also tasted old. The bread was okay, but the ingredients tasted like they've been sitting in a fridge for a while too. Overall, would not go again. I'll go to Mollie Stones and get something there if I'm really hungry. Also- place gets two stars for atmosphere because it was quiet, but it had a ton of signs everywhere with different menus that made it overwhelming to figure out what I wanted. read more

I rarely give one star reviews, but this place was a severe letdown to me. I came here with some friends and every single one of us had something majorly wrong with our order. I ordered a chicken sandwich and a honeydew boba. AFTER paying, they told me they were out of boba. I would have not gotten the boba had I known this... And when my chicken sandwich came out, it was supposed to have just chicken and cheese on it, but they also added mayo and raw onions, which weren't listed on the menu. The chicken was bland and rubbery, the bread was so stale, and the additional toppings really made this sandwich inedible. As I mentioned, everyone in my group had an issue, including: -receiving a croissant sandwich instead of a bagel sandwich -receiving a ham & cheese sandwich that was missing the cheese -receiving a veggie sandwich also missing the cheese The complete lack of care is definitely concerning and I would strongly advise against eating here. read more

I went to Creighton ( Not Warren Buffett's favorite College Basketball team, Creighton University). Creighton Bakery has two San Francisco locations and they are family owned. I usually go the other location but decided to give this location another chance. In San Francisco the value of all values when it comes to donuts is if they have a good apple fritter. This is a good indicator and sets the tone for the rest of the pastries at the bakery. This apple fritter was fresh and had a good amount of sweet glaze and not too doughy. I also tried the raspberry turnover which was not too sweet but a bit flaky. They also offer breakfast sandwiches mostly on a bagel or a croissant. I was hoping to see the Banh Mi Sandwich on the menu at this location. The other Creighton's location Banh Mi sandwich is very good. Overall good place is good to get a quick breakfast or lunch. At the same time, they're fairly identical in their set-up and service. When I order the $4 Cafe au Lait, I still get handed the cup half-filled with steamed milk ready to pump out the coffee of my choice from the warming thermos (photo: https://bit.ly/3F0Icz0). I was on my way to Mt. Davidson just for the walk, so I stopped at this one and was struck by the number of cakes and other baked goods which accounted for most of the customer traffic here. People were coming in and out to pick up their birthday cakes. It was just me and the three cops drinking the caffeine and avoiding the donuts. At least this time. Sometimes it's more about convenience, than quality or value. Over the years, this neighborhood staple has provided morning pastries, coffee, and sandwiches prior to that green logo-ed coffee chain opened a few doors down. I used to stop in to get fresh-made breakfast sandwiches or a danish, muffin, or apple fritter, my fave by the way, before heading to the office. There are a couple of tables and chairs here for dine-in but take out is the most common here. They do carry cakes and other pastries but the selection is a bit limited. There are drinks in a refrigerator for take and go and they have a coffee machine for making those specialized drinks, in case the line is too long up the block. Please temper expectations as this is a neighborhood, locally owned business (they do have one in the Diamond Heights Shopping Center near the Walgreens). Don't expect an IG worthy experience dessert or pastry wise. It just fills the needs of the neighborhood locals. read more

I didn't realize this place existed before until now because I used the TooGoodToGo app to find this bakery who had day old items left over from the day before that I purchased at a discount on the app. It is a small, quiet, overlooked bakery blended in the Portola outdoor mini two block plaza where Molly Stones Tower Market is and only one person at counter to give me a mystery paper bag. Hard to describe this bakery. The pastries are not oily or over buttered like the French where you may want to vomit because it's just too rich. It's light and texture is different from other bakeries. You won't get a big flaky crunch with the pastries. But you can always bring it home to toast it up to get it crispy. The chocolate pastry chocolate texture is unique and I kind of enjoyed it. I am always up to something new and different. I wouldn't mind ordering it again. While I was there my eyes were drawn to the huge lemon bars, next to the giant lemon tarts too. I just had to buy one for $4.50. Visually I know the crust is extra thick if you like that. It was a nice heavy and solid lemon bar. Not overly sweet and nice sour mixed in. Nice balance. I wouldn't mind trying out this place again. They seem to have a good variety of different items. I know one reviewer mention it's stale pastries. But if it's stale I doubt why this neighborhood bakery would still be here after all these years! read more

Don't expect Devil's Teeth (best lemon bar in the city). The coffee is what you'd expect from looking at it, and not bad at all. Based on my experience, the pastry wasn't that good. I ordered a cinnamon roll, which I thought was another product which looks like a cinnamon roll with pecans. I was given the cinnamon roll donut, which at $2.50 is slightly expensive. Since I didn't check and verify the to-go bag, I had to eat it later. This product was extremely oily, and cinnamon was very minimal. The glaze wasn't too much. The other products looked okay like the croissants, but this donut is not their strong suit. read more

After hiking up through Glen Canyon Park, Gayle and I found ourselves on Portola Drive. I wanted to continue upwards to Twin Peaks, but this was enough elevated exercise for her day. However, since it was time for some sort of refreshment, we walked over towards the old Tower Market. After buying a bottle of water, Creighton's American Bakery beckoned. Gayle knows of my love for neighbourhood bakeries, and all she had to do was smile and open the door. If it wasn't for the fact that I had previously stocked up on my "carbo crack" at Arizmendi for my breakfast treats, Creighton's would have received much more of my business. And despite all the temptation (and small quarters), we settled on a warm and fresh peanut butter cookie. When I first moved to the city, I was totally psyched that I lived within walking distance of a Starbucks...until I noticed that it was right next to an indie coffee shop: Creighton's. I knew that as a good San Franciscan it would thus be my duty to shun Starbucks in favor of the local place. And Creighton's does have a lot going for it. The atmosphere is homey, and they're serious about their food, going far beyond the usual muffin selection, with great meat pastries and pot pies, and even a fridge full of cakes and a bit of wine. But there's one little problem: the coffee isn't that good, largely because they keep it sitting in thermoses instead of making it fresh. And what's with having to make your own Cafe Au Lait? In the end, this provided a loophole to my No-Starbucks rule. So now I can get my coffee from Starbucks, but I'll come to Creighton's for the baked goodies. (Update: Now that I've moved to the Inner Sunset, I have at least 3 non-Starbucks places to get my coffee, not to mention Arizmendi for baked goods, so the whole question of Creighton's has become rather moot). read more

I used to go here as a kid with my dad. They were taken over by new owners, I think a Chinese couple, and, like any intelligent business people who knew they had location and a loyal following, they didn't change a thing. Same great pastries, bangers, all the good stuff. Best part (and don't tell them this) they kept the cheese selection, but they have NO IDEA how to price it. I stumbled into this place as I was rushing home for an appointment. I hadn't eaten breakfast and knew once the contractor got to my place, it would be a while before I could eat. I saw the familiar Starbucks logo and turned into the lot. Though not pleased with the prospect of eating a cold bagel or some overlysweet yogurt, I thought at least it would be quick. As I parked I noticed Creighton's, hmmm. Bakery and deli? Wha'? I slipped in the door driven by curiosity more than anything, but also the desire to avoid Starbucks. What a delight! Fun and sort of overstimulating. Cakes, cookies, pies, petit fours, colorful signs, a huge chalkboard of cheese names, AND breakfast items on the menu. Woo-hoo! I indulged a bit and ordered a Porky's Muffin for myself and a Sausage and Egg Handpie for Hubs. The handpie was tasty, but the Porky's Muffin was scrumptous! Just the best darn Egg McMuffin I've ever experienced. I gobbled that little sucker down with glee but not too quick to give Hubs a couple bites. I'm good like that. read more

When we first bought our house in San Francisco 12 years ago, our realtor sent us a welcome basket from Creighton's. We were instantly in love with the shop, and visited many times throughout the years, buying baked goods or their wonderful house-made cheese spreads. My last few visits there have been disappointing. Somehow the quality of the food does not seem the same, and the variety seems far less. A sign of the economic times perhaps, but I am no longer as drawn to go in there. The ingredients feel much more pedestrian (lots of gel in the fillings, etc), which is a real shame. Still, I like to support the independently owned local shops, so I will pick up a lemon square or Ohio Sugar Cookie on occasion. I just wish I knew what happened to the character of the place, because it's definitely missing something that was once there. read more

We bought 3 pies for a Thanksgiving dinner, an Apple, a Lemon Meringue and a Pumpkin pies. Two of the 3 were just sort of OK, but the Apple Pie was a disgusting plate of goo, covered in crust that was inedible. 16 Bucks each ! Are they kidding? Worst of all we were unaware of how awful these pies were until our family members remarked that "There is something wrong with this..." Huh? I took a sample and nearly gagged.
