Donuts (Clockwise From Top Left) - Raised Glazed, Chocolate Bar, Bacon Maple Raised, Chocolate Old Fashioned
Mike L.

Ever since my ex-coworker brought me a donut from Twisted Donuts, I'd been so excited to come here. Don't get it twisted, though (pun intended) - I actually first added this place to my list of bookmarks not long after they opened. It's just that, with my usual go-to donut shop somewhat close by, I always default to to heading there instead whenever the mood for a donut strikes. Plus, it's one thing to get excited based off the things you see and hear about a place, it's another when you've actually gotten a chance to sample their goods. And let me tell you - the goods are good! On the surface, it seems like it would be easy for Twisted Donuts to slip under the radar. In middle of the block right off 19th Ave, it's easy for people to zip right by and, unlike so many other donut shops, they don't have a prominent, corner location. However, what they do have is an impressive, and lengthy, roster of donuts to choose from! Along with your classic sort of donuts, like old fashioned, raised, cake, twists, bars, filled, or donut holes, they've also got an interesting mix of more unique offerings, whether it be style (croissant donuts, mochi) and/or flavor, including Thai Tea, Ube, Matcha, Black Sesame, and so many more. -- BACON MAPLE RAISED GLAZED One of the must tries that I came here for and it wasn't too shabby. There was a fair amount of bacon yet this didn't taste very oily/greasy. I also liked that the bacon was super crispy, though, a couple of pieces were close to burnt. -- CHOCOLATE OLD FASHIONED Not as good as my favorite one out there, but pretty solid. Although it felt a bit dense on the inside, the frosting was pretty chocolatey, and the outside of the donut itself had a nice bit of crispiness. -- CHOCOLATE BAR Ehh...not sure if it's because there was a lot of frosting on this, but this tasted sweeter than the others I've tried. If that's the case, it might also be why this seemed to sag/look deflated, especially compared to the Raised Glazed. -- RAISED GLAZED Pretty standard, but in a positive way (it's exactly as you'd expect). The donut had a nice rise to it, the icing wasn't super sugary, and the inside was so soft! -- STRAWBERRY LEMON CAKE This was fine for the most part, but I liked the Berry Lemon one better. The strawberry flavor in this was on the subtle side, unless you happened to get a bite with a lot of strawberry bits in it, but I thought the lemon icing was great! -- LEMON BERRY CAKE This one was great! The taste of the blueberries was a lot stronger and was well complemented by the lemon icing. Yet, perhaps most impressively, the taste of this wasn't overly sweet. -- BLACK SESAME MOCHI DONUT This was terrific! I loved how the black sesame added a nutty flavor, which was a nice way to balance out nay sweetness from the donut. As for the texture, the mochi donuts all had a very nice chewiness to them! -- THAI TEA MOCHI DONUT I liked how pronounced the taste of the Thai tea was, but it didn't have much of the creaminess that I enjoy with Thai tea drinks. Although I did like this one, I thought the Matcha one was better. -- MATCHA MOCHI DONUT Easy to see why the color of this was so green - they sure didn't skimp on the matcha! At the same time, I could see why some folks might not like this, as the taste of the tea is rather assertive (I didn't mind it). -- GUAVA MOCHI DONUT It fell short of my admittedly high hopes, but this was still pretty decent. The taste of the guava was tart, but didn't feel distinctly "guava". That said, the other donuts might have messed with my taste buds (I tried the Thai tea right before this one). Along with their awesome selection of donuts, the other thing that I really like about Twisted Donuts is the staff. Each time I've been, the two guys (owners?) behind the counter have been super welcoming and friendly. My first trip here, they even threw in the raised glaze for free! Really, the only thing I wish was different about this place were the hours, as they close rather early (2PM) compared to most other donut shops. Still, that just means I have to make it a point to come earlier! Donut World will always be my spot for a late night treat, but it looks like Twisted Donuts and their unique offerings just might be my new daytime spot! FOUR AND A HALF STARS rounded down for now.

Average donuts

I bought some donuts and coffee The donut looked as average a donut could be. Smaller than most. Mind you I'm coming from San Jose where we have Stan's, maybe the best donuts in Cali. These were not even close. Looked like a machineade them. Stroke 1. The coffee was beyond mid. There are two legit coffee shops nearby so I expected them to have somewhat decent coffee. Nope strike 2 Ok so maybe the price is dirt cheap and that explains it all, I thought. But the price was double what I expected! They want high end prices for very meh level quality. Strike 3, you're out!

Selection of 9 donuts-all fresh, delicious, and high quality.

My kids like to try locally owned businesses on Too Good To Go before spending their allowances on regularly priced items. The store was clean, organized, and inviting. The service was quick, efficient, and professional. The gentleman behind the counter was sharp, smart, and helpful-everything you expect from old school business practices. The selection was amazing . It had a sampling of everything (9 items) that any donut fan would like. I had the old fashioned maple glazed immediately. It was fresh, perfectly balanced in crunch, flavors, and pillowy soft inside. I'm already planning my next trip.

Mixed assortment from Too Good to Go app. Sad we didn't get a mochi, and it was too late to buy an extra (sold out for day)

TLDR: Delicious mochi donuts with creative yet not overly sweet flavors on Fri-Sun. Arrive early for best selection, they often sell out well before closing time! Consider calling to ensure stock/pre-order before driving over if you're coming from an opposite corner of the city. They have online ordering, but it doesn't feature every available flavor/type. Longer: After discovering the app Too Good to Go and learning Twisted Donuts was on the list AND my boyfriend's favorite donut shop in the city, we headed to the Sunset the first chance we got (on a Friday). The randomized selection checked all our taste buds' boxes and I sampled many types that we otherwise wouldn't have selected, from vegan to buttermilk to mochi. I don't have a sweet tooth and I'm happy to report these donuts weren't too much for me. They also didn't feel heavy, which is all too common given the whole fried dough thing. I'm very glad I had my boyfriend to share with, as he's sometimes my garbage disposal, so I could have a few bites before he finished the rest XD Just did a little additional research on their website to find they don't even list mochi donuts! Keep in mind (from their website): "On the weekdays, Joyce and Paul feature the classic donuts, which are near and dear to Paul's heart. But on the weekends, things get a little crazy at the donut shop, with specialty donuts including the Nutty Monkey, Berry Crunchy, Baconpeno, S'Mores Galore, PB & J, Lemon Berry, Fruirrito, Pumpkin Fritters, Milky Way Under A-Salt, just to name a few!" The inside of the shop is very basic, a few tables in case you want to dine in. Or do what we did: head to Ocean Beach for a beautiful view to pair with your treats.

They bought whatever donuts appealed to them.

We sent the grandkids around the corner to buy donuts for nine people, including guests from Mexico and Oregon. The verdict was a unanimous wonderful. Wonderful selection. Wonderful quality. Wonderful service. We especially like the mochi donuts.

Ordered a raised glazed and an old fashioned glazed. Both tasted good and had great texture. Super happy with my donuts. Service was quick. Took it to go.

I got a Too Good To Go box with them ($6), and it was filled! They offer some fun flavors and mochi donuts but I didn't get to try them in my box, so I wasn't really blown away but they were solid.

Went on a weekend and was politely greeted as we walked in. Apologies for the limited supply as he said there was a rush in the morning. Still plenty to choose from. We opted for the colorful, eight sectioned: - Strawberry Mochi - Passion Fruit Mochi - Thai Tea Mochi Sorry to say that we could not discern the flavors of the donuts from each other as they only tasted like sugar. Additionally, the density of their Mochi donut did not match any of the Mochi Donuts we've had from other shops. We're used to a denser chew while these just had the density of a regular donut. Mochi Light? Tried their Croissant Donut - not a Cronut and sorry to say nothing near a Cronut which should have layers like a croissant while a density of a donut. - Regular & Maple, flavors were right but the textures just didn't meet our expectations for a Cronut. Coconut, Bacon Maple, Coconut Ube, Old Fashioned Glaze,.. donuts were okay. Have I had better, you bet... I have had so many donuts that I might be a honorary Cop. If you go here, stick with the regular donuts as the Mochi Donuts and Cronuts just didn't have the right texture, density, and flavor profile.

Black sesame mochi, all the weekend flavors
Helen L.

Black sesame mochi donut $3.26. They have so many flavors to choose from (see picture). My second choice would be coconut guava. What a cool combination. They don't have little signs which donut is which. The nice guy at the counter will give you the names. He must have to do this till all the donuts are sold. He is great with kids, The kids like me come in and have him point out each donut. I can read into the kid's minds, should I get the sprinkles or the Maple glaze? This lady took all the chocolate ones. No need to say chocolate any more unless they make more. One lady comes in and they know her by name, Margaret. It's great having neighborhood shops. In time you know your regulars. They got some big tables for you to hang out.

Rainbow sprinkles glazed cake donut

Picked up some donuts for a kid's playdate after my friend recommended we get some treats from here for breakfast. I did not find street parking right away so I parked in the bank parking lot next door and quickly dropped into Twisted. The place is small and a little dark but the glass case of yummy donuts was nice and brightly lit. My son chose a rainbow (of course) glazed cake donut for himself and his friend, my friend go an ube donut and I got lemon poppyseed (per the suggestion of the owner when I asked for a not too sweet donut). All were good and given the thumbs up by each eater. My lemon poppyseed was tasty without being too sweet and I had a piece of the ube which was nicely balanced out by the coconut. I will be back!

I've walked by Twisted Donuts a lot but it's always been in the afternoon when they're about to close and I never see anything that really calls out to me. Today I happened to pass by in the morning and I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw "UBE CAKE DONUT" it comes with toasted coconut shreds? Yes please, I'll take two! $3 each these are small but mighty. I love a good cake donut. The ube flavor was on point and that coconut icing with toasted shreds just highlight the entire donut. We need more versions of this ASAP. Service was super nice too. It's a cute little shop if you wanna sit down to enjoy your coffee and treat. Adds a nice vibe to the neighborhood!

I got a cake donut, but my companion got a regular glazed. I'm pretty picky with my glazes, which is why I default to cake when trying new donut places as most classic glazed donuts are pretty stale by the afternoon. But to my surprise, their classic yeasty glazed donut was incredible moist and not too overly fried. This is the mark of an excellent donut shop. I'm even curious to try their jelly-filled donuts next time i'm in. Highly highly recommend and I can't wait to come back!

That afternoon, it was packed with seniors with walkers who just seemed to be hanging out talking. :) The Jelly Donut has all the classics as well as some fun twists. We were looking for a little something sweet, so asked for a lemon jelly donut. I pointed to another big one and asked what it was. The woman behind the counter tongue-tied herself trying to say "crumb-coated cinnamon roll" and laughed which was extremely adorable so I had to get it. And yes, they gave a couple of surprise donuts which we didn't know was a thing. Everyone is tense and crabby these days (for good reason), so such a small move can really make someone's day. And yes, all of the donuts were excellent and fresh! I normally wouldn't order a cruller because they are always chewy and flavorless. Now I get it! This might be one of my favorite kinds of donuts now! I'm going out of my way to buy donuts from here in the future.

Shop is bright and airy, with the most adorable pastel color scheme. I ordered two of their milk chocolate donuts ($5 each), a key lime meringue donut ($6), a blueberry & lime donut ($5), and a caramel apple donut ($6). Donuts are on the pricier side, but the presentation and use of high quality ingredients makes up for it. The sourdough donuts themselves aren't nearly as sweet as standard donuts and have a soft, bouncy texture. The milk chocolate donut was absolutely decadent. Upon first bite, you can immediately tell this donut was topped with real melted milk chocolate. This was levels above a typical chocolate glazed donut. The flakey sea salt garnished on top balanced out the sweetness nicely. Although I will say that I found the richness of the chocolate to clash slightly with the tanginess of the sourdough donut. The key lime meringue donut had a super tart key lime filling and was topped with fluffy meringue. Definitely the most eye catching of the donuts I picked up. But the key lime filling was a bit too punchy and sour for my liking. The glaze on the blueberry & lime donut had a potent and fresh blueberry flavor that went well with the lime zest sprinkled on top. The caramel apple donut was my favorite. The caramelized apple filling paired with the cream cheese frosting and graham cracker crumbs was almost like eating an apple pie + cheesecake fusion but as a donut! Overall, a solid donut place that I'd return to if I'm ever in need of a special treat!
