Amazing unassuming looking donut shop on 24th St. in the heart of the Calle 24 Historic District in the Mission Neighborhood. We walked right into the cool and cozy no-frills donut shop and was greeted by the friendly staff. She even threw in a few delectable donut holes. I got a cake donut, but my companion got a regular glazed. I'm pretty picky with my glazes, which is why I default to cake when trying new donut places as most classic glazed donuts are pretty stale by the afternoon. But to my surprise, their classic yeasty glazed donut was incredible moist and not too overly fried. This is the mark of an excellent donut shop. I heard good things about this place for years and everyone was right. It's a small family-run business with a homey vibe. That afternoon, it was packed with seniors with walkers who just seemed to be hanging out talking. :) The Jelly Donut has all the classics as well as some fun twists. We were looking for a little something sweet, so asked for a lemon jelly donut. I pointed to another big one and asked what it was. The woman behind the counter tongue-tied herself trying to say "crumb-coated cinnamon roll" and laughed which was extremely adorable so I had to get it. And yes, they gave a couple of surprise donuts which we didn't know was a thing. Everyone is tense and crabby these days (for good reason), so such a small move can really make someone's day. And yes, all of the donuts were excellent and fresh! I normally wouldn't order a cruller because they are always chewy and flavorless. Now I get it! The NICEST most SWEETEST woman behind the counter. I could kiss her on the forehead!! I was honestly having a pretty bad day when I walked by this donut shop. I thought some donuts would be a nice pick me up so I ordered a half dozen donut holes. We chatted a little while she packed my order. She asked me in a warm friendly tone if 6 pcs would be enough and I told her how I loved donut holes but was trying to not over indulge. I had two bills on me and mistakenly handed her the smaller bill and shorted her but she didn't say a word. I wrongly thought she owed me change and raised the issue. That was when she flashed the bill back at me and I realized it was my mistake. I wanted to make it right but she smiled and said don't worry about it. After I left the store, I reached into the bag and noticed she filled the bag with donut holes and a bonus donut, WAY WAYYYY more than what I had paid for. If she ever sees this review, I want her to know that she really made my day. I cannot recommend Jelly Donut enough. I ordered a ton of donuts from them on National Donuts Day for my birthday, and everyone raved about how delicious they were. We were able to try an assortment of their donuts, and all of them were SO good. They have every element that you want from a good donut without doing anything over-the-top or unnecessary--they definitely hit the spot when you just want solid classic donut. I also really enjoyed their Mango Filled Donut; the filling wasn't too sweet and was surprisingly refreshing. Aside from having phenomenal donuts, I think the owners of this shop are the best. I've always heard about how amazing this place was and really needed a pick me up this weekend. I ordered the maple bacon and a blueberry bar, and also a mango jam filled donut on the shop keeper's recommendation. She was so sweet and friendly, she threw in more donuts before I knew it for me to try. Everything was fresh and delicious (even the next day because now I've got way more than I could eat in one day). I tried the apple fritter and french cruller donut. The apple fritter met expectations but isn't the top of my apple fritter list but still sits pretty high! The french cruller was the best I've ever tasted. It was soft and not too oily. The dough was bouncy and but also melted in your mouth after a few chews. The service was quick and a lady helped us out pick donuts. She was funny and her mood was uplifting. The shop itself is quaint and straight to the point with the donut case right when you walk in. I ordered the Apple Fritter, Raised Glazed Donut, and Guava Filled Donut, and each stood out in its own way: * Apple Fritter (9/10) - Perfectly glazed with sweet apple pieces throughout. Moist and flavorful, though -1 point for being just a touch too bready for my taste. * Guava Filled (7/10) - Super unique! The guava filling was light, refreshing, and not overly sweet. The donut itself was fluffy and complemented the filling well. * Raised Glazed (6/10) - A standard classic glazed. It didn't stand out to me and on was the drier side. Not as airy or soft as I was hoping for. Now for the cherry on top: the customer service was 10/10! The woman behind the counter was incredibly kind and even threw in a free Coconut Strawberry Cake donut (7/10). That was such a sweet gesture! We just moved super close to this shop, so had to give them a try. Cash only, minimal seating, really just your neighborhood donut shop serving up awesome donuts. Staff was super friendly too! I got a guava jelly filled, and it was great. Guava filling was super guava forward which I liked, but also not overly sweet, which I find with most jelly fillings. The donut itself was pillowy and again not very sweet, well balanced by the glaze. They also threw in quite a few donut holes, which were a wonderful surprise!
