I live next to these guys, and I have NEVER had a bad donut from them. They are honestly great folks, always friendly, and their donuts are fresh and tasty - every morning I get to smell them being baked daily! (It's a hard life, I tell you.) Our whole house find their malasadas amazing - the pineapple and mango fillings in particular - and my husband is a big fan of the raspberry lemonade filled donut. Currently my new favorite is their cinnamon cereal special donut, which is just amazingly sweet and tasty. The fritters are HUGE, and we generally just nibble on them on and off the day. One warning - if you're in a rush, come EARLY on Friday mornings, because there are a number of bike tours that like to stop here and it can take a while to get through them all! On a personal note, these guys are heroes. Back during the age of COVID, they kept people's spirits up and gave us all a reason to keep going. Each day, all day, people would mask up and line up down the block six feet apart, waiting for their chance to enter the store and order something delicious to keep their spirits up. I've always liked Bob's Donuts, especially their giant donuts. I love ordering them for special occasions, and getting a giant donut has become a tradition for my nephew's birthdays. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with my experience this time. I called yesterday (9/11) at 7am and spoke with Carmella about ordering a giant maple bacon donut for pickup the following morning. She let me know that they might not have bacon, but someone was possibly going to get some, and asked what my backup donut would be if they didn't have any. She took my name and phone number and said she would call me if they weren't able to get the bacon. Right after getting off the phone, I called back because I realized we hadn't discussed a pickup time. I asked if I could pick it up at 8am, and I was told it would actually be ready by 7am. I arrived this morning to pick up my order, only to find out that no one knew anything about it and the donut hadn't been made. Thankfully, they were able to put together a giant maple sprinkle donut for me at the last minute, which I really appreciated because it was important to me to continue our birthday tradition. What upset me the most was that after speaking with multiple people, no one apologized or acknowledged the mistake. I understand that things happen, but a simple apology and better communication would have made a big difference. Cool little donut shop me and my homies found roaming the City while killing time for our concert. I was surprised they had a bunch of donuts especially at the time we went in the evening. You'd kind expect a donut shop to run out or be low in stock, but not this place. Let me preface that their staff are friendly and helpful! It's the donuts that aren't up to expectations. Disappointed the find that they have shrinkflated their Apple Fritter. It was about 2/3 the thickness and circumference that it has been for the past two years (at this location). Overall, I like their traditional cider donuts and ones that have less sugar. The rest of their donuts are just too sweet for me, and a bit too dense. Bob's Donut does not compare to Stan's Donut in Santa Clara, in size or loft. The other thing that I notice about their donuts is that they often have a weird aftertaste- wondering if they don't change the oil in the fryers... I don't recommend their Vegan apple fritter doesn't taste right... and tends to be undercooked. Wow. On our e-bikes this Tuesday morning I suggested to hubby we make our way to Bob's. Being donuts fans he was very agreeable. We popped in around 10:00am. I couldn't eat anything here because they don't have gluten free. Got an old fashioned plain and chocolate along with a strawberry malasada for my family. They were underwhelmed. This place used to be my favorite donut place in the whole Bay Area. Not anymore. My go to WAS the raspberry glaze filled donut because they used quality raspberry filling. It used to be bursting with raspberry goodness, now they choose to rip the customer off with a dab of raspberry filling that doesn't even fill 1/3 of the donut. The cashier then gave me an attitude when I asked her about the filling. She begrudgingly gave me a new one which I opened up immediately. This is my absolute favorite spot for a late night treat! It's perfectly located after a night out at the bars and offers a great atmosphere to wind down with something sweet. The donuts are excellent. The service, however, runs the gamut. The problem I encounter roughly every third visit is they give me something other than what I asked for. That's easy to fix, now I just keep an eye on what the clerk picks up and slips into the bag. This morning, the clerk was in the middle of cleaning the counter and other surfaces, which wasn't a problem. I'm not in a hurry and am happy to wait for my favorite donuts. finally made it over to bob's to try the vegan donuts since they're one of the few spots in the city with a decent vegan selection (and raised instead of cake donut). it was a sunday in the late morning, the staff were helpful and it was quick to place and get my order. the donuts looked good and the apple fritters are huge, i was also excited to try a flavor like matcha which i haven't had on a donut before. i wanted to love the donuts, but the matcha one had no flavor and the texture was dry/gritty. the apple fritter had lots of apple but it tasted 1-2 days old, i went home to warm it up and even warm the apple had flavor but the donut dough itself is pretty tasteless. don't know if it was an off day but pretty disappointed. read more

Street parking may by challenging, but if you can find one, make your way over. Don't deny yourself glorious donuts! Their donut crumble (original) is the standard. They also have other specialized donuts and regular donuts as well. If you live in the city - you're lucky that you can frequent this place. If you're visiting, a box of 12 donuts would be worth the headache of trying to find street parking. If you want to enjoy your donut there - there is coffee and maybe some countertop seats. My visit to Bob's Donuts was a mixed bag. Like many, my first visit to Bob's Donut was to the Polk Street location. This was my first time stopping by this location. When I stopped by in the afternoon at 3:00 p.m. on a rainy Saturday afternoon, the shop was empty except for a couple sharing a donut by the window. Like others have noted, you really get the sense that this place is a buy quickly and go spot. There's no small talk, no recommendations, just silence. I picked up a bacon cronut and an apple fritter. Each donut was around $4.00. As soon as I got back to my car, I took a bite out of each: there were excellent. Due to how large the donuts were, I ended up only eating about a quarter of each. When I got home, I immediately transferred each donut into their own tupperware container for tomorrow's breakfast. The next day, I was quite disappointed in how the cronut held up: it was a greasy collapsed mess. The apple fritter held up better. Definitely wouldn't recommend keeping these donuts overnight. Total for 8 donuts including tip: $30.75. * Bacon Croissant Donut - 5 stars Dang this was good. Layers with perfect texture, and just the right savory and crunchy contrast from the bacon. * Creme Brulee - 3.5 stars Although I love my yeast-y, soft, moist donuts, this was almost too much soft pillow-y goodness. I was quite jazzed when I saw Bob's Donuts was moving into my neighborhood. No more out of the way drives to Bob's Donuts on Polk street. After something like a 1/2 a dozen (no pun intended) visits, I'm just not impressed. The quality is nothing compared to the Original Bob's Donut and Pastry Shop on Polk street. Maybe it's because they don't turn over the donuts as quickly as the shop on Polk Street. Which always has a line out the door. Well this one has line's to, but not all day, just in the early morning hours. I popped in today about 4:00 and ordered 1 Crumb cake and one Maple Bar. The crumb cake was o.k., a tad greasy. The Maple Bar was horrible. it was flat, dry and super greasy. Not my experience @ the Bob's on Polk. Not to mention every time I go in there they change the policy regarding purchasing. Cash, no cash; card, no card; exact change, etc. etc. Today cash was o.k., tomorrow that may change. I don't find their donuts to be as fresh and certainly no fluffy. Today was my last visit.
