Let me preface that their staff are friendly and helpful! It's the donuts that aren't up to expectations. Disappointed the find that they have shrinkflated their Apple Fritter. It was about 2/3 the thickness and circumference that it has been for the past two years (at this location). Overall, I like their traditional cider donuts and ones that have less sugar. The rest of their donuts are just too sweet for me, and a bit too dense. Bob's Donut does not compare to Stan's Donut in Santa Clara, in size or loft. The other thing that I notice about their donuts is that they often have a weird aftertaste- wondering if they don't change the oil in the fryers... I don't recommend their Vegan apple fritter doesn't taste right... and tends to be undercooked. Street parking may by challenging, but if you can find one, make your way over. Don't deny yourself glorious donuts! Their donut crumble (original) is the standard. They also have other specialized donuts and regular donuts as well. If you live in the city - you're lucky that you can frequent this place. If you're visiting, a box of 12 donuts would be worth the headache of trying to find street parking. If you want to enjoy your donut there - there is coffee and maybe some countertop seats. Affordable, fresh, and delicious! Though the line can sometimes be long if you're in a rush, it's a neighborhood staple for a good reason!

This is my absolute favorite spot for a late night treat! It's perfectly located after a night out at the bars and offers a great atmosphere to wind down with something sweet. The vibe is fantastic, and there's ample seating. My friends and I ordered our donuts and comfortably stayed for an hour just chatting and slowly enjoying them. Dropped by on the 4th of July and was thankful they were open! While looking through the options, people came in and out -- lots of runners stopping for a sweet treat, surprisingly. finally made it over to bob's to try the vegan donuts since they're one of the few spots in the city with a decent vegan selection (and raised instead of cake donut). it was a sunday in the late morning, the staff were helpful and it was quick to place and get my order. the donuts looked good and the apple fritters are huge, i was also excited to try a flavor like matcha which i haven't had on a donut before. i wanted to love the donuts, but the matcha one had no flavor and the texture was dry/gritty. the apple fritter had lots of apple but it tasted 1-2 days old, i went home to warm it up and even warm the apple had flavor but the donut dough itself is pretty tasteless. don't know if it was an off day but pretty disappointed. read more

My visit to Bob's Donuts was a mixed bag. Like many, my first visit to Bob's Donut was to the Polk Street location. This was my first time stopping by this location. When I stopped by in the afternoon at 3:00 p.m. on a rainy Saturday afternoon, the shop was empty except for a couple sharing a donut by the window. Like others have noted, you really get the sense that this place is a buy quickly and go spot. There's no small talk, no recommendations, just silence. I picked up a bacon cronut and an apple fritter. Each donut was around $4.00. As soon as I got back to my car, I took a bite out of each: there were excellent. Due to how large the donuts were, I ended up only eating about a quarter of each. When I got home, I immediately transferred each donut into their own tupperware container for tomorrow's breakfast. The next day, I was quite disappointed in how the cronut held up: it was a greasy collapsed mess. The apple fritter held up better. Definitely wouldn't recommend keeping these donuts overnight. They are best enjoyed the same day. read more

I wasn't disappointed. Short line on a Saturday around 12:30pm. They can only serve one customer at a time, so if you're ordering a lot of individual donuts, it can create a bit of a bottleneck. Total for 8 donuts including tip: $30.75. * Bacon Croissant Donut - 5 stars Dang this was good. Layers with perfect texture, and just the right savory and crunchy contrast from the bacon. * Creme Brulee - 3.5 stars Although I love my yeast-y, soft, moist donuts, this was almost too much soft pillow-y goodness. I was quite jazzed when I saw Bob's Donuts was moving into my neighborhood. No more out of the way drives to Bob's Donuts on Polk street. After something like a 1/2 a dozen (no pun intended) visits, I'm just not impressed. The quality is nothing compared to the Original Bob's Donut and Pastry Shop on Polk street. Maybe it's because they don't turn over the donuts as quickly as the shop on Polk Street. Which always has a line out the door. Well this one has line's to, but not all day, just in the early morning hours. I popped in today about 4:00 and ordered 1 Crumb cake and one Maple Bar. The crumb cake was o.k., a tad greasy. The Maple Bar was horrible. it was flat, dry and super greasy. Not my experience @ the Bob's on Polk. Not to mention every time I go in there they change the policy regarding purchasing. Cash, no cash; card, no card; exact change, etc. etc. Today cash was o.k., tomorrow that may change. I don't find their donuts to be as fresh and certainly no fluffy. Today was my last visit. We love bobs but have always gone to the other location. We were in the city yesterday closer to this one and decided to try it out! The service was great and the guy at the counter was friendly and chill. The donuts were awesome. I got my usual maple cronut with Cinnamon Toast Crunch which is 5/5 and tried a new one (to me), the raspberry cream. It was good but I wasn't getting the punch of raspberry I was hoping for. It was deff lacking in the flavor department. My boyfriend got a fruit loops one which was delicious, and our friend got the ham and cheese croissant which he loved! Said it tasted like Gruyère or some kind of Swiss but softer. Their coffee was strong with great flavor and kept us going for the rest of the day showing our friend who was visiting around the city. In celebration of Jaymie Lynn S.' birthday (Happy Birthday!), she got us all a selection of donut's from Bob's and even picked me up their full section of vegan donuts so I wouldn't feel left out. That is true friendship right there. The three vegan selections I had included their Apple Fritter, Cinnamon Roll, and the Chocolate Bar. My favorite of these was definitely the apple, since it reminded me a lot of an apple pie. These donuts were quite dense and fortunately not overly sugary. The cinnamon roll wasn't my favorite but the other two were definitely a treat. Bob's Donuts on Polk St. was a staple late-nite stop in my early 20's so I was excited to try something from their newer Baker St. location. My cousin brought me Hawaiian malasadas, filled donuts rolled in sugar, to compare them to the Leonard's malasadas we had eaten during last year's trip to Oahu. These were just as good, so fluffy & generously filled, however they didn't have the flavors of the islands I like most (macadamia nut and/or haupia.) Here's a breakdown of the flavors I tried: -- custard: you can't go wrong with custard. The best of the ones we tried which was disappointing because I thought I'd like the tropical flavors more. -- blueberry: not a huge fan of blueberry jam in general. This one was sweet without any hint of tartness. Would be interested in trying raspberry if they have that flavor next time. -- pineapple: pretty good! Again, super sweet without that balanced tang, had pieces of fruit. -- guava: usually one of my favorite tropical flavors but this filling was the most artificial of the ones I tasted. -- mango: skip, all sweetness with zero complexity. There was a time not so long ago where my anticipation of a monstrous donut at Bob's original location could not be contained within my wavering willpower. It didn't matter when the craving took over my shaking body because Bob's was and still are open 24/7. This second newish location operates more reasonably from 9AM to 6PM every day. Of course I was walking in the neighborhood minding my business and noticed it on Baker. It looked more like a somewhat upscale bakery than a retro donut shop. Regardless, that old feeling came back, and as I was about to order, a couple of self-entitled bro's shoved themselves in front of me to shout out their donut orders which kept growing as they looked at the vast selection in the display case. Whatever happened to donut shop etiquette? They didn't care because I'm sure they had inflatable girls just waiting to reject them. Well, at least their insolence gave me time to review their vast selection. Went in on a Sunday afternoon and treated myself to one of their gorgeous apple fritters. Flavor texture and size was perfection. The shop was empty at 2pm on a Sunday so I recommend to go at this time. A true SF institution.
