I literally drove all the way from Gilroy, California to San Francisco just to try it after seeing it featured on Barstool's pizza review with Dave Portnoy -- and let me tell you, it was 100% worth the drive. The shop has that classic, welcoming neighborhood feel the moment you walk in. You can smell the fresh-baked cookies right away, and you already know you're about to have something special. But nothing could've prepared me for how good the Chocolate Chip Cookies & Cream cookie was. This was hands down the best cookie I've ever had in my life. Perfectly baked -- slightly crisp on the outside, soft and gooey in the center -- and packed with flavor. The balance between the rich chocolate chip base and the cookies & cream flavor was unreal. Every bite had the perfect texture and just the right amount of sweetness without being overpowering. It tasted fresh, homemade, and made with real care. You can tell Anthony's Cookies doesn't cut corners. The quality is next level. This isn't just a cookie -- it's an experience. I've had a lot of cookies in my life, and nothing even comes close. My cousin has been so kind enough to bring us a box of Anthony's a few times throughout the years at family gatherings. We just happened to pass Anthony's while in the Mission and the "we are open" sign on the street. I peeped inside the heavily tinted window: no patrons inside, but then I saw movement in the back and tugged on the door. Yes! Open! The lady at the counter wasn't very welcoming, but I didn't pay it much attention. Maybe she was so focused on her baking? I asked if the peanut butter would be available today. She said yes, but then shrugged when I asked about what time it would be ready. I settled on a chocolate chip and a toffee. $3 for a cookie smaller than my small palm. Came here on a Monday night and it wasn't crowded. I got the chocolate covered peanut butter cookie and it tasted like a tagalong cookie from the Girl Scout cookies. Amazing! I ordered 40 chocolate chip cookies for my wedding and no one was disappointed. Thick, crispy, chewy and quality chocolate! My husband squirreled one away for me that I ate 3 days later and it was still delicious. I tried calling in the order but no answer so I emailed them and got a call back the next morning. This place has been on my saves to try for awhile now and I was pretty disappointed after finally trying them today. The cookies are small, which isn't necessarily an issue, but just not what I was expecting. I also tried to order a few cookies that they had listed as available and was told that they didn't have them, so it wasn't clear on what was actually available when ordering. I placed my order and they asked if I wanted them in a box and I said sure, that sounds great and then later came to find out that they charge you 75¢ for a box - it just seems crazy to me that you're charging customers for a cardboard box when they're spending ~ $3.50 per cookie/ $40 on cookies to go in said box ??? Anyway, I digress As for the cookies, texture was decent. The oatmeal had a really great chew, chocolate chip was crispy edges with a softish center. The snickerdoodle was sad - she had no flavor and was over baked. They also originally told me that I couldn't order a snickerdoodle cause they were just baked and needed to cool for an hour - which was confusing given their size, but also, a warm cookie is usually the best kind so that seems like it would be a chance to upsell. All in all, it was fine but it was just fine. I wouldn't go out of my way to get them and I think there are better bakery's to try with how many options there are in the city. read more

Finally got around to trying this place after living in the area for several years. TL;DR--it's good! I wouldn't advise making a special trip, but if you are nearby, definitely check them out! I tried a few of their bread & butter (no pun intended) staples, toffee, cookies & cream, and classic chocolate chip. Of those, the classic chocolate chip was probably my favorite. The quality of the chips was fantastic, and definitely elevates it above your ordinary cookie. I do feel that $2.50 for a single cookie is steep, given the size (about the diameter of a Coke can, and the thickness of a small notebook), but that is ultimately a preference. Everything is expensive right now, so it's hard to say where this falls on the spectrum of "acceptable." The cookies are crispy, and have a bite to them (not soft). Personally, I like this texture, but it's not for everyone, so if that's not your thing, then you may want to skip this place. I also tried two of their "specials"--the chocolate covered peanut butter cookie, and the chocolate covered shortbread. Both of these were highlights (the latter probably being my overall favorite), again for the super-high quality of the chocolate, as well as the generous coatings. They do not skimp on chocolate. However, those were also pricey at $3.75 and $5.75, respectively. When I'm back in the area, I may come in just for the shortbread alone--it's that good! Fair warning: both of these have a bit of an "oily" texture and so they are slippery and melt fast. I suspect this is due the fresh ingredients & baking (especially with the peanut butter). I did not like they that charge you $0.75 for a box to store the cookies. The prices are already high enough, and especially if you are buying more than one, the box should be included. For years, Anthony's cookies had been on my list of spots to try but just never got around to trying them. This is probably because I'm a cookie baker myself and don't really feel the need to buy them unless someone buys them for me. This was the case here as I was gifted with a box and finally got the opportunity to taste what all the hype was about. Lucky me, these cookies didn't disappoint. What really impressed me about these cookies was that they had that perfect chewy soft texture. The cookies themselves weren't that big-- they probably could fit in the palm of your hand. Taste wise, they have my approval. Here's a breakdown: Cookies and Cream: Out of all of them, this was probably my least favorite. Let me explain. I bake up my own cookies and cream cookie and I like mine better. This one was a tad *too* sweet for my own liking and while everything else was on point (texture, bits of oreos), it just comes down to preference. I prefer mine. Can't hate on that. Classic Chocolate Chip: Again, they have perfected that texture and this is Chocolate Chip done right. I could probably keep snacking on these, so keep them away because I would need to be cut off. Chocolate dipped shortbread: This one surprised me the most because when I looked at this hunk of chocolate, I assumed it would be way too sweet. It was not. The shortbread inside wasn't too sugary, and the chocolate on the outside wasn't that sweet either. Good balance and felt like a treat. I hear they're going to tackle the Ice cream game next. My favorite place to get homemade fresh cookies. The perfect time to get them is around 12pm when it's also warm. Very clean as well, nice seats to enjoy eating your cookies on. There are so many things to love about soft, warm, thick, cookies, especially on a rainy day, I find them extra comforting and reminiscent of my childhood. I happened to be in the neighborhood and it's been forever since I've had some Anthony's Cookies, so I had to stop in. By mid day, there are some flavors that were out (German Chocolate being one of the sold out flavors that I love) but they still had most left. Must tries are for sure the Chocolate Chip Walnut and the Peanut Butter. I also got the Chocolate covered Shortbread to try and it was covered completely in chocolate.
