We came across Kings Bakery while walking around the Mission and it had a constant stream of people going in and out. They make both traditional HK and Mexican pastries, which is pretty cool. You can find coconut buns, pineapple buns, french bread rolls, Mexican conchas, and a ton more, as well as a variety of cakes in the fridge section. It's self-serve, so you grab a tray, pick what you want, and check out when you're done. There's a couple small tables on the side of the bakery for you to sit and eat at. We tried the pineapple bun and a chocolate concha. I think the bolo topping could've been a little thicker and baked a little longer, but that's personal preference. Bun was a tad dry. Concha was similar -- dry bun and the topping was kind of powdery, so the mouthfeel was kind of unpleasant. Regardless, happy to support this little gem of a place that's been part of the community for generations. Seems like coconut buns are the thing to get, so I'll try that next time.
BEST CONCHAS in the city! (They're not dry & taste like real bread) Coffee is good too! They also have really good bolillo They're helpful & kind in there! I especially love when they tie the box with a pink ribbon perfect for taking a box into work
I love coming here for the coconut bread. My family has been coming here since the 80s and now as an adult I make sure to stop by and grab my dozen of coconut breads. They are soo so good! Staff is always nice and so helpful too!
Beautiful day in the Mission today. We googled best pandulce near me. Kings was the closest. We purchased their butterfly flat pastry and 2 of their Chinese concha's YUMMMM. We will be back.
Had a going away soirée for a co-worker and wanted to grab some Chinese pastries. I also didn't want to head all the way to Chinatown. Found Kings on Yelp and it hit the spot. Unusual to find an Asian- Latin bakery in the Outer Mission , but glad I found it! It's a quasi self serve place- grab a pizza pan, some tongs, then have at it! I got a dozen cocktail buns and half dozen baked pork buns. Smelled great on my drive back to the office. Tasted even better! I'll be back-
Not bad! Love the sesame balls!! Tiramisu on the other hand was just chocolate cake... and the strawberry cake is super spongy with a super kick of coconut! I'll be back to try more. Definitely affordable.

It's been years since I stepped foot in this bakery. I visited a Saturday evening and bought a napoleon. I took a bite but decided to save it for Sunday morning. On Sunday morning my pastry crumbled apart and I noticed dark grayish fuzzy spots in between layers- it was mold. Mold can make you sick. A lot of his customers are eldery people.

Kings Bakery Cafe is known for their Coconut Buns but what really stand out are the Freshly Baked French Baguettes. Our group got to go to the back and watch the baker take the loaves out of the oven. It smelled heavenly! When we returned to the front of the shop a line was starting to form. They were waiting for those French Baguettes. The Coconut Bun was light and buttery and coconut-y (in the middle). The French Baguette was warm and so so satisfying to bite into. Definitely the type of bread to be best right out of the oven. We also tried the Chocolate Sponge Cake Roll. I grew up eating these and it was very moist and airy unlike the dry and dense ones at other bakeries.

They have a front counter full of pastries and a wall of self-serve pastries. Tray after tray, I tried to figure out which one is the coconut bun. Nice find in the Mission! Was walking by and stopped in for some pastries. They bake everything onsite every day. Mostly Chinese pastries and a couple of Mexican baked goods like Conchas. There were submarine rolls in the back of the store. The lady at the counter was friendly and helpful. There are a few tables inside. My palmier and cocktail bun cost $5 and it was delicious. There is a place that sells king size pastries. They say they are no kings in San Francisco. I seen a few kings in San Francisco. On Mission street there is the annual King of the Streets event and on the same block this event is held is a neighborhood staple for decades that sells bake goods and some pastries that are a hybrid of Chinese and Latin American flavors. Between 24th and 25th on Mission street you will find Kings Bakery. People of the neighborhood in the Mission come here for delicious sweet bread and pastries which are Chinese and Latin American. You will see pan dulce( sweet bread) which pairs well with coffee in the morning and throughout the day. There are plenty of different pan dulce like concha's and they also have cupcakes. This is also a good place to pick up pastries and cakes to celebrate Dia de Los Reyes ( The Three Kings Day) which is coming up in a few months. Kings Bakery is a good place to grab pastries for any occasion but the good stuff is usually available in the morning. In the Mission there has been a king and for years it has been"around "the king here has yet been" crowned" but inside Kings Bakery on Mission street Chinese and Latin American pastries can be "found "they have delicious pan dulce and cake by the "pound" Kings Bakery has stood its ground on Mission street and holds its "own"and Kings Bakery has not yet been " overthrown " still on Mission street Kings Bakery sits on its "throne" it has been around for decades before the "iPhone" read more

Not bad at all ITTET. Two yelp friends, ironically with the same first name, had opposite reactions to the coconut buns. To me, the buns were somewhere in the middle, not great but not bad - the filling was a bit sweet and canceled out the bland dough. The place carries two other pastries with coconut (one is the oval-shaped with buttercream filling, along with coconut flakes on top; the other is round-shaped with a brownish sheen). First impression: "It's dirty. Uh, is this a safe place to eat?"... I don't know. Still thinking about that one. Haha! Greasy and wet cardboard on the floor? What? I don't know why. Grab a tray and tongs on the counter to your left. It doesn't seem clean and some tongs have frosting and bread from being used multiple times. Yeah, I don't know how sanitary it is.... Pastries are behind you against the window with prices attached. Girl who works there is pretty good at math. Hahah, she calculated it pretty fast. I mean I could've done that too, but thinking about the different prices and how many people came up to her with their pastries before us. Friend convinced me to come here to try the coconut buns because it's the 100 things you should try before you die. It cost $0.60 and we bought 8 buns. Total of $4.80, no tax. The coconut buns were pretty delicious... Up to you whether or not if you want to try it. read more
I was almost distracted by their baked offerings but I kept my eyes on the prize. Coconut buns. That's how I roll (ha!). 3 coconut buns and 2 pineapple buns for $3. Honestly, I can't say that their coconut buns warrants a spot on the 7x7 list. They were good, but I can't say they're ahead of all the other SF coco buns. 7x7, for some reason, can't quite get Chinese food down. I guess that's what Yelp is for. Like Charlie Brown and Lucy's football, 7x7 will trick me again and again and I will probably still be curious by their rankings. If you're in the Mission though, it would probably not be farfetched to say that Kings Bakery has the best coconut bun in the neighborhood. read more

As a child, I remember coming here with my mom to pick up (the best!) fresh, warm cocktail buns. As an adult now, I'm the one picking up the tongs and selecting from the vast display of baked goods. Glad to see this bakery still going strong! read more

We have been coming to this bakery for years! It's located right near the 24th and Mission BART station. They offer cookies, croissants and regular French bread. So delicious! Most cost from 90 cents and above. Prices have gone up as expected. I love the coconut bread and the sweet croissants. Highly recommend! read more
I finally got the chance to visit this nice little bakery this early morning. I purchased (I don't know the actual names) a heart shaped pastry and a tube shaped pastry filled with apple. They were both generously sprinkled with delicious sweet sugar! There were tons of baked breads and sweets on display! I recommend this place if ever you are in this neighborhood of the Mission for an early morning treat. read more

Grab some tongs and a tray and get busy with the baked goods (Mexican and Asian) at the front of the store (including cookies, fruit pies, muffins, croissants, baked buns, Danishes, etc.). Prices are clearly displayed but the items don't have labels, so you have to recognize the item, ask about it or just hope you pick something you like without knowing what it is. The glass display case had whole cakes, cake slices (the strawberry cake slices looked good), pumpkin pie, etc. Everything seems really cheap and large. They must be known for their plain white rolls because the back of the bakery just had piles and piles of rolls. The place was crowded. * Plain Roll (30 cents roll): really good for such an inexpensive white roll, fresh, slightly crusty, good amount of chewiness, good density * Mocha cake roll (65 cents): didn't have much mocha flavor, filling was too sweet, cake was too dense, but you get a thick slice for less than you'd pay at your typical Chinese bakery * Bun with sesame seeds on top: I thought it was savory bun but it was filled with coconut (I don't like coconut) so I threw it away I agree with Marti L. that they should install plexi-glass doors or wrap their goods vs. leave them exposed to open air. What a really great find today: Bolobau and coconut buns in the Mission with Chinatown prices! Wicked, eh? I actually walked by this place at first, and did a 180. You grab a pizza tray, a pair of tongs, and select away, from the assortment, of baked nomminess, to your left! I grabbed a dozen baus, placed gently in your typical pink-box, and tied-up with green ribbon. The customers were shocked pleased amazed... when I told them that this is from a bakery on Mission and 24th, it was a Jersey "get outta heeere" moment. The baus were devoured in seconds. Yummmm... coconut buns! King Bakery is located on the busy street of Mission, cross street is 25th. The store is squished between numerous restaurants, shops, taquerias, & grocery shops even. I've passed this bakery numerous times, but never tried out their goodies. It wasn't until I stumbled upon it's name on SF's Big Eat 7x7 list that the curiousity set in. It lists their coconut buns as a "must try" before you die. The buns are soft, filled w/ a yummy trio of what tastes like coconut, butter, & sugar. When served warm, it tastes oh so good! Imagine it with a cool, tall glass of refreshing milk. Sigh! As good as these buns taste, they cost only $0.50 each. Wow in price & taste! Bottom line: King's Bakery has yummy baked goodies, especially their buns (although not good for your own buns, so be careful not to indulge frequently here). Tips: *They only accept cash. *If doing the 7x7 list, La Taqueria is right across the street & Rosamunde is a few stores down. *Bring quarters for the parking meter. Otherwise, the 24th BART station is a block away. read more
