Some of the best pastries in the city, but some of the most racist/prejudice staff. Been going for years, but every time I go I'm always accused of stealing an extra cinnamon roll. They even have a few staff members who've gone far enough to squeeze my bag, thereby squeezing my food, to verify I didn't steal. I've heard wondrous things about Arizmendi Bakery, and I am a big fan of bakeries that also serve a pizza slice-of-the-day. The line around noon wasn't too bad, and it moved quickly since most people in line knew the drill and had their items ready to go. I ordered the slice-of-the-day, which turned out to be a mushroom + spinach + mozzarella combo. I placed my order at the counter and was handed a hot slice of pizza about five minutes later. I was fortunate to land one of the limited seats inside the bakery, although, there was also plenty of bench space in the parklet outside. The pizza crust was thin and crispy - with just the right amount of chew - and tasted slightly of sourdough. Topping-wise, the mushrooms were abundant but not overpowering; however, I wish there had been other vegetables to balance out the flavor. Paying less than $5 for a generously-sized slice (adorned with a mini slice on top) felt like a bargain, especially in SF. I would definitely make the trip back out here to give the pizza another try and to pick up some of the other baked goods. read more

Ambiance: A wide variety of options bakery located in the Mission District with a whole list of options of baked pastries and bread with bags and self serve stations before checking out. There is both indoors and outdoors seating with plenty of lighting and space to for customers staying around to enjoy the scenery. Wait time: There was a little line but it moved quickly and service was quick while standing in line. Two registers and lines to check out from as well. Service: Quick and friendly staff when going through check out queue. Food: The spinach and feta croissant was extremely well made with a slight hint of lemon to boost the flavor of the feta inside the croissant. I personally would have preferred a little more color on the croissant and crispier exterior but overall very tasty. Mexican Chocolate muffin was a nice size for the price of the muffin. However, I felt that the level of spice from the cayenne was a little overpowering and drowned out some of the chocolate notes. My wife loves Arizmendi Bakery. I do too but have been on low carb diet so shy away from pastries these days. Their pizzas, scones, cookies, pecan Danish are our favorites! Love the fact they are a coop owned by the workers. Their products show the dedication to the business. Stopped into Arizmendi for a quick coffee and pastry and quickly understood the hype. The bakery is packed with breads, pastries, muffins, and scones, and browsing the cases feels a bit like a treasure hunt with so many great options to choose from. I went with a blueberry scone and an Americano. The scone was fresh and loaded with blueberries, and the coffee was smooth and well-made. There are a few seats inside if you want to enjoy your order there, but this is more of a grab and go spot. Looking forward to coming back and trying more. read more

What a fabulous place that is now on my must visit list when I am in San Francisco! This is a superb bakery with a big heart. It is a worker-owned co-op that has a big focus on community. There is a huge variety of breads, muffins, pastries, etc. to choose from (self service) along with great coffee (Mexican Mocha - ay, ay, ay! ). The wife and I shared a vegan spinach potato poblano focaccia and cinnamon pecan roll. Both were wonderful! Went on a weekday morning for my morning pastry fix. I've been trying to get back here for quite some time now on my visits to the city. Street parking was easy on a weekday compared to previous visits on a weekend. There was no line in a Monday morning, making it easy to take my time looking at all the baked goods on offer to make my selections. The pumpkin seeds and cheese breadstick is one of my faves. I supplemented this with a moist bread pudding muffin and a strawberry and ginger scone which had the perfect amount of ginger so that it was not overwhelming. Love coming here when I'm in town. This SF staple is known for its freshly baked breads/pastries, its connection to the LGBT community, and its daily soups and vegetarian flatbreads (one offering per day; I refuse to call it a pizza because a pizza it is not). The line is precariously long at times, so be sure to come here during off hours (which you'll be hard pressed to find), but also be aware that they sell out of things quick. The items we got included: a red velvet cookie (really moist, but no chocolate, so it was a bit of a bummer); jalapeno cheddar pumpkin seed breadsticks (good, but I would have wanted more cheese flavours); the daily flatbread (completely fine, but because it didn't have any sauce, it was a bit dry for my liking); the daily soups (ginger carrot today; good flavours, but super viscous and gloopy - it was good to dip the daily flatbread into). My kids love coming here after their dentist appointment. They always get the fresh pizza, what ever the flavor/ topping it is. I have found myself pretty lucky because we've always found parking here (metered). The line is almost always out the door but it moves very quickly. They have a cute bench/ bleacher set up outside to enjoy your treats in the warm SF sun. It is self service so my kids line up while I pick out our baked goods to take home. read more

What afantastic bakery! The Mexican chocolate coffee was sweet and spicey with the mild chocolate flavors delicately balanced with the righteousness h coffee and spices intermingling nicely. I had a Chai tea with a shot of espresso and ot was good. Honestly, the spices could have been stronger, but it was still nice. We also had the short bread and it was rich and sweet. Our final choice was the sticky sweet pecan cinnamon roll. For me, this was the high point from the bakery. I love the whole Co-Op ideology behind this spot. The power that gets transferred back into the community is a great example of how to reinvigorate a community. I was only planning to grab coffee but once I got inside, I couldn't resist the incredible selection of baked goods. I chose the Apple Fig Scone, which had the absolute perfect texture and touch of sweetness. For coffee, I got a Dirty Horchata, which was incredible. I always love this type of pizza so it worked for us. You must try green salsa with your pizza . It is garlic cilantro based salsa which gives spicy kick to your pizzas. The pizza was the show stopper here. Super well seasoned and warm and the crust had good structure, the jalapeños cheddar stick was more flavor but too hard for my liking. The bread pudding was not as nice as I thought, too soggy but the flavor was good and strong. The blueberry swirl light and classic. I was surprised there's still some pastries available, so I grabbed the currant scone, chocolate mint cookie, lemon ginger turmeric shortbread, cheese roll, and artichoke hearts cheese focaccia. My friends got a key lime pie, a chocolate filled bun, and an olive bell pepper bread. 1. currant scone - balanced sweetness from the currant and some sugar, tasty scone. 2. vegan chocolate mint cookie - it doesn't look minty but it is very minty. not a bad cookie if you love chocolate mint flavor! 3. lemon ginger turmeric shortbread - this one was ok, i enjoyed it for what it was but it wasn't the best item i got today 4. cheese roll - after heating it up, it is very delicious. good savory roll that's crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside 5. artichoke hearts cheese focaccia- very tasty but i wish the artichokes were distributed more evenly on the bread 6. key lime pie - the crust is more of a sandy texture. a tasty pie regardless 7. chocolate filled bun - the bun is more on the sweeter side, a bit like a dinner roll texture 8. olive bell pepper bread- i don't remember the exact name of this bread but it was really good. it's like the cheese roll but with extra flavors (if you don't like olive tho you probably won't like this bread) This bakery to me is more grab and go since there's not a ton of seating inside.
