Ube sourdough

I've tried almost all their loaves and my favorite is the K-pop Gochujang loaf! It's savory from the gochujang and garlic. It's not spicy but you can taste the flavor of the gochujang. It's great to eat as toast with some butter or with fried egg. Such a unique and flavorful loaf. The masala loaf is pretty good too. It has the flavor of garam masala and sautéed onions. It gives you the taste of an India curry but in bread form.

Great bakery and love the bread. I was walking by while in the area and bought a loaf of garlic confit and thyme bread and a bacon snickerdoodle cookie. The gal was super friendly and helpful with my questions. I loved the bread. Great texture and flavor. I wish the flavors were a little stronger but still so good. I'd love to try more or their options. The cookie was delish but don't feel like the bacon came thru much. Seemed like a little sprinkling on top is all. All the baked goods and loaves of bread looked and sound great. I like their variety of flavors. This was a pop up at their space and didn't have areas to sit and eat. It sounds like a cafe space is in the works tho. I'll keep an eye out more when at farmers markets for their table!

I finally got my hands on a couple of their sourdough loaves - the Everything Seasoning and Gochujang loaves! I loved the Gochujang loaf with toasted sesame, roasted garlic and fresh scallions (there are whole garlic pieces in the bread). The Everything Seasoning is great too with seasoning throughout the bread rather than just on top. The sourdough has a nice tartness without being too sour. The bread is great for toasts, pairing with soup or on it's own with butter. I sliced these up and freeze them in slices so that I can grab and go when I'm using bread for meals or need a snack!

Must try the SF Local sourdough loaves from Rize Up Bakery. They are at Farmer's Market and selected supermarkets. Pop up sales at the Howard St Bakery on Saturdays. Texture, quality, and taste are perfect!! You will be thrilled that there are so many choices and unique flavors on the bread. Highly recommended. I wish the biscuit is more fluffy and buttery. The coconut cookie was ok. Owner is so creative with a lot of love and passion!! Thank you so much!!

Rize Up Bakery holds a special place in my heart- I initially heard of Rize Up through a PBS documentary and I wanted to support. My mom and I stopped by early of last year at its warehouse and we've hooked ever since. The staff is so sweet and down to earth and very knowledgeable about each baked good- what it's made of, what flavors or beverages pair well with each item, and what someone would like based on preferences. We always get the Garlic Confit Thyme loaf because we are garlic lovers. The bread is so fresh and savory! We slather it in our favorite butter and I use it for avocado toast with himalayan salt and olive oil drizzled on top. Stand outs to us would include the ube cookie and bread. However, honestly you can't go wrong with any of their baked goods. They have a pop up what seems like every Saturday for the public to buy items and they also give away bread occasionally to those in need when they bake a lot or have a lot. Rize Up is such a gem in the SOMA community.

Whenever we are in the city we try to visit Rize Up Bakery. We love the spirit and the message of this business and we love supporting small entrepreneurs. We also appreciate the message of making something so good out of bad situations. The last time we tried to stop in there had been a fire and I felt terrible. But this week we were able to stop in and get a loaf of sourdough. Typically I make a garlic salt butter to melt and dip the bread in but this time we didn't have the seasonings I typically use and I had to eat it just plain bread and butter. I really wanted more salt in the bread itself, and I'm not sure if it's always like that and I've just never noticed because I'm putting my unseasoning on it or if I just got a loaf where they hadn't used enough salt in the recipe. Either way I will definitely need back and continue supporting this business.

Absolutely incredible quality & taste! Nothing more to say other than I find myself craving it all day. Just cut, toast, add a lil' butter, & I'm all smiles! Who knew all along that happiness is truly over sliced bread?! I do now.

Coconut snickerdoodle, wish it was bacon though.

Found them at the Ferry Building farmer's market. What drew me in was a bacon snickerdoodle cookie. But then I also saw their olive, truffle, parmesan, black pepper sourdough which had everything I typically enjoy so I got that too. And I managed to get the last cheddar scallion biscuit as well. I was so excited to chow down on my cookie until I realized that they gave me the coconut snickerdoodle instead. And I hate coconut. I should've checked before leaving, but in the end it was still a pretty tasty cookie with the perfect chew that I'd want in a snickerdoodle. The cheddar biscuit was also delicious and moist. I'm just not impressed by the sourdough. For $16 I could only taste the olives since they were studded in there. I would go back for the cookies and biscuits though. Got the bacon snickerdoodle later at the Saturday farmer's market and didn't expect to like it less than the coconut one. It doesn't really have much of a bacon flavor.

I follow this bakery on Instagram and was delighted when on a trip to San Francisco I happened to be nearby. Got a load of hoagie bread that made amazing sandwiches and was good just on its own Tried a variety of cookies and their tea cake. Shared the cookies and everyone loved them Rebecca was working that morning and she was wonderful. Highly recommend

The sourdough was hard to eat because of the excessive salt on the outside. Some of the exterior was burnt as well

I'm always hunting for spots like this because I have a weakness for those over-the-top, Instagram-worthy desserts that look like diabetes in a dish. Like most places in this genre, A Buttercup is small, modern, and minimalist with limited seating. If you plan to go, aim for off-hours unless you enjoy waiting in line for sugar. The decor is cute and trendy, perfect for photos if that's part of your dessert ritual. As they say, "you eat with your eyes first," and when it comes to presentation, this place definitely gets an A+. The desserts look stunning and set high expectations. Unfortunately, that's where things started to crumble. It's like going to see your favorite artist live. You've watched the videos, memorized the songs, and paid for the experience. But instead of the electric performance you imagined, you get someone lip-syncing and barely connecting with the crowd. That was this place in dessert form. We ordered the Mango Bingsoo on our first visit, and when it arrived, we were surprised by how small the portion was. The guy next to us even looked over and said, "Whatever that is, I'm getting that next time." He shouldn't have. The Bingsoo looked great but was bland, and the "snow" was more chunky ice than soft shave. The Thai Tea Roti was also not what I expected. It came with Thai tea ice cream and sauce alongside a roti that was fried to a crunch. Interesting idea, just not the best execution. The sauce and ice cream needed a stronger Thai tea flavor to balance the crispy roti, and the flavors never quite came together. Overall, A Buttercup nails the aesthetics but misses the flavor. If you're here for the photos, you'll be happy. If you're here for the taste, you'll leave with a full camera roll and an unsatisfied sweet tooth.
