As someone who's picky about chocolate desserts, I really enjoyed this stop. The hot chocolate had a deeper cacao flavor than most places, and I liked that it wasn't overly sweet or heavy. It felt much more balanced and grown-up than the usual sugary version. The pastry I tried was also nicely done.. rich, layered, and satisfying without being too much. What stood out most to me, though, was the whole atmosphere. It feels part café, part chocolate boutique, part tasting experience. Why add another review to a venue that already has been so well reviewed? Because of the quality of my experience there; it is worth writing about! We came for a factory tour, about an hour long. It was fascinating and educational to learn about the craft of chocolates from fruit to beans to the chocolate bar, and to get to chocolate taste along the way. Their work is inspiring-adding minimal ingredients to their chocolate bars so that the flavors of the cacao beans shine naturally from where they originate. After the tour, we tried the hojicha hot chocolate, the celebration cake, and the matcha cookie. For the hojicha hot chocolate, the tea flavor was subtle, but good chocolate. The celebration cake was what we expected-glad it wasn't overly sweet so that cocoa is more pronounced, but it also wasn't too rich; I felt the chocolate here in some sense lacked depth. The matcha cookie was my favorite-a cake texture matcha exterior encasing a denser brownie-like chocolate core - a delicious combo! Last thoughts to prep for the experience if you tour- 1.) Eat before you go on the tour-sampling chocolate means you do get caffeinated, and you'll likely purchase more chocolate (more caffeine!) after :) 2.) Included with the tour is a complimentary chocolate drink of choice at the end, in case you were pondering whether to buy the hot chocolate or not ;) 3.) While I appreciate fine chocolate, I'm no connoisseur when it comes to top-tier craft chocolate. I just know Dandelion by their lofty reputation and that it rests on their approach, a pure mix of cocoa beans and sugar without the need of extra cocoa butter. Last year I saw how insanely popular their Tokyo store was, so I finally tried this cafe for the first time because it was unusually empty as I was passing by. I had no idea what to order because the menu wasn't conspicuous to virginal visitors. Only later did I notice the drink menu on the left wall. The openly exposed desserts are what really caught my eye first. I decided to order the $6.75 Frozen Hot Chocolate because it frankly reminded me of the decadent monstrosities at the legendary Serendipity 3 in Manhattan's Midtown East (Photo 8). It was similar but not nearly as huge of pricy. I liked it a lot though with a generous dollop of whipped cream, it was more a mid-afternoon dessert. That should've been enough, but the confections on display were too inviting. Filled with 70% Takyikrom and Ghana chocolate ganache, the $8 Apple Donut was freckled with candied apple bits and tossed in spiced sugar (Photo 9). Delightfully decadent. I have been to Costa Rica chocolate factories so I was curious how these pan out and it was an interesting comparison. The tour guide was fairly knowledgeable and it was good to see how the production works. Who doesn't like chocolate? Okay, I haven't eaten a lot of high end chocolates until now! Dandelion Chocolates is a specialty chocolatier. They work with cocoa farmers and produce small batches of chocolates in their factory. They highlight the different chocolate bean's unique flavors. Their flavors include classic fudge to tangy fruit. I was gifted a box single origin truffles. The truffles were a box of 15 chocolates. The flavors were dulce leche almond, chocolate ganache with blueberry jam, and fresh strawberry honey cheesecake. You can tell just from the combination of flavors that someone spent a lot of time and effort to develop an exciting combination of flavors for someone with an experienced tasting palate. The only thing I would mention is that these fine chocolates expiration date is only a couple weeks. So, you will need to finish your box of chocolates sooner, rather than later. Oh, no! I will have to eat my chocolates sooner rather than later, because they don't have all of the stabilizers and emulsifiers to make it last longer. My wife and I were up in the city for a fun date night and decided to give this a shot after recently discovering it. When an outstanding hit for a cold evening activity. While you're waiting in line to order, there are chocolates that you can taste which is super fun and appreciated because there was a line even at 8 at night. The interior of the store is gorgeous - it's a beautiful cafe with plenty to look at. Props to whoever curated the fire music selection. I remember telling my friend that Dandelion's music was better than what I've heard at a lot of clubs. A whole section of the store is dedicated to chocolate bars and boxes they sell. It was impressive to see the variety of special flavors and spices in each chocolate selection. It felt like a lot of thought was put into each product. The drink and pastry selection is vast and really adds to the luxurious feel of the store. There seems to be a major emphasis on the different chocolate flavors, highlighted throughout their menu. I was intrigued by the brownie bite flight. Every brownie had a different flavor note. I tried the mission hot chocolate, which was so rich and spicy. I've never tasted a hot chocolate like this before, and I was obsessed. There are fluffy marshmallows on the side that you can place in your drink. The drink also comes with a small biscuit that tastes wonderful dipped in the hot chocolate. It's definitely a pretty penny for a small cup, but the unique flavor made it completely worth it. I enjoyed this place so much that I visited several times over the course of one weekend. It was extremely busy at all hours, so be prepared to wait awhile for your order. Yes, one chocolate bar is $12 (minimum) but especially as other vendors are starting to skimp on cacao quality and add more fillers and milk solids into their products (I'm looking at you, Trader Joe's) - you have to credit Dandelion for continuing to do things the slow, unscalable way that produces top-notch smooth and consistently delectable dark chocolate. I love how they carefully describe the inherent cacao bean notes (strawberry milk! toffee! blueberry!) and single-origins of every bar, offer tastings and community events, and bake every cookie, brownie, and cake in their shop with love in every molecule. Let's start off by saying... it's Dandelion Chocolate. There is much to like. I love going to their Ferry Building location and taking whatever free samples I can get. It's so fun tasting the different flavors between their seemingly similar chocolate bars and occasionally trying fancier concoctions like their truffles or bonbons. I really like the Mission location for the food and drink, of course, but also the seating space and ambiance! It's a very aesthetic place to get work done or catch up with a friend. This time, I swung by to get some work done, and I ordered the Babka French Toast ($12) and some tea. Everything was lovely! I will say, I was expecting more of a breadlike crumb from the french toast, but it was much more like a lightly toasted pound cake. I will say it was on the drier side, but the absolutely luscious chocolate sauce helped a lot! The granola was very good as well, buttery and crispy. To my surprise they came a cookie to the side as well. The cookies weren't vegan or gluten free. They had an assortment of pastries but no gluten free options, there was one vegan option though. Fun little treat spot! I enjoyed the cozy feel of Dandelion Chocolate. While I was thrifting on Valencia I came across this place and had to give it a try! It's so organized and comfy right when you walk in, the service was super awesome, and they had a great variety of goodies to choose from. The chocolate milk was super smooth and not too sweet. I enjoyed the Mexican mocha, I thought it would be a little bit more spicy but honestly it was surprisingly mild. The espresso used there is delicious though and it complimented the chocolate super nicely. Not sure if I'd get the spicy mocha again but it was fun to try. My husband was saying it reminded him of the textures of a Flan, light and just right! Took a visit to this Chocolatier shop with friends and we were all pretty impressed. We got a variety of items including the toasted, S'more, flight of brownies, and the frozen hot chocolate. This place ended up getting BUSY after we hopped in line and after we tried our food we could tell why. The s'more was very delicious as they torch it in-front of you which was pretty cool. We really liked the flight of brownies, with one being very nutty, one being fruity, and one being very velvety. My personal favorite was the one in the middle, the Belize. As for the frozen hot chocolate I personally liked it. It tasted very chocolatey without it being insanely sweet.
