While I appreciate fine chocolate, I'm no connoisseur when it comes to top-tier craft chocolate. I just know Dandelion by their lofty reputation and that it rests on their approach, a pure mix of cocoa beans and sugar without the need of extra cocoa butter. Last year I saw how insanely popular their Tokyo store was, so I finally tried this cafe for the first time because it was unusually empty as I was passing by. I had no idea what to order because the menu wasn't conspicuous to virginal visitors. Only later did I notice the drink menu on the left wall. The openly exposed desserts are what really caught my eye first. I decided to order the $6.75 Frozen Hot Chocolate because it frankly reminded me of the decadent monstrosities at the legendary Serendipity 3 in Manhattan's Midtown East (Photo 8). It was similar but not nearly as huge of pricy. I liked it a lot though with a generous dollop of whipped cream, it was more a mid-afternoon dessert. That should've been enough, but the confections on display were too inviting. Filled with 70% Takyikrom and Ghana chocolate ganache, the $8 Apple Donut was freckled with candied apple bits and tossed in spiced sugar (Photo 9). Delightfully decadent. FOOD / DRINK - 5 stars...definitely in a class by itself AMBIANCE - 4 stars..,I sat at the solitary counter that provided a view of their prep area SERVICE - 4 stars...they appear to work efficiently together TOTAL - 5 stars...when you feel deserving of the decadence RELATED - Exploring the Mission? The chocolate drinks are really good here including mocha, hot chocolate, and even frozen hot chocolate. We tried the frozen hot chocolate today and the drink was really good. You can taste really good chocolate, not too sweet. The store sells various chocolate bars and offers samples as well. If you are into chocolate, definitely recommend checking out.

San Francisco's made Chocolate Factory! We won the "Golden Ticket" and you can too! Don't miss your opportunity to visit the factory for the home made Chocolate treats, pastries, spicy Mexican Mochas and great gifts. Prompt a d friendly service in a simple, but an elegant shop in The Mission District on Valencia Street in San Francisco. A clever free "Chocolate bits tasting" as you wait to make your order! Brilliant! Its like an art gallery you can choose to eat!

Delicious chocolate, though on the sweeter side, but it's good for the occasional treat. I did the tour back in 2023 and it was neat! I have been to Costa Rica chocolate factories so I was curious how these pan out and it was an interesting comparison. The tour guide was fairly knowledgeable and it was good to see how the production works. Inside was clean and smelled amazing like chocolate Inside they do offer chocolate drinks and I had gotten some to try, it was sweet, and their customer service was friendly We have done online purchases over the years - their chocolates are on the expensive side, and on the sweeter side, but I have enjoyed them occasionally and have gotten them as gifts for loved ones, such as their Bonbons, their sea chocolate Carmel's, their truffles, hose hot chocolate and , their trip hot chocolate. It's a decent spot, I do wish it was less sweet as I would enjoy it more

You can't go wrong with anything at Dandelion, really. Cute space, good desserts, open after dinner time. Only a bummer if anything runs out.

The interior of the space is comfortable and open. You can see chocolate beans and processing facility beyond. The service was a little slow, but chocolate/mocha selection were good. They have wifi and variety of seating heights inside and out.

Walking into Dandelion Chocolate feels like stepping into a warm pocket of the Mission where time slows down and everything smells like melted dreams. The air is thick with cocoa and comfort, and for a moment you forget the noise outside and just settle into the sweetness of it all. I hadn't been here in a long time, but the second I walked in, it all came rushing back -- the soft hum of people enjoying something simple and good, the gentle clatter behind the counter, the way the space makes you breathe a little easier. The European hot chocolate was the star. Rich, deep, and velvety in a way that feels almost old-world. Not overly sweet, but bold -- like someone turned a chocolate bar into a slow, warm pour of happiness. The staff added to the experience with their kindness, offering little tastes and answering questions with a calm confidence. Nothing rushed, nothing forced -- just genuine hospitality. Dandelion is one of those places that reminds you how comforting a well-made drink can be. A spot where you sit for a few minutes, sip slowly, and let the world soften around the edges. A must-stop in the Mission, especially if you need something warm, rich, and a little poetic for the soul.

A small size will be enough. It's so rich and tasty, but it does come on the thicker side. If you are not a fan of the aftertaste sweetness, a small size will be enough. I also don't recommend the whipped cream, again, if you don't like overly swear drinks. I have had it before, and have always loved it. People here are quick to respond and nice. The place was vibing and busy.

The delicious chocolates. Look at the beautiful designs on the top. It looks like artwork.

Who doesn't like chocolate? Okay, I haven't eaten a lot of high end chocolates until now! Dandelion Chocolates is a specialty chocolatier. They work with cocoa farmers and produce small batches of chocolates in their factory. They highlight the different chocolate bean's unique flavors. Their flavors include classic fudge to tangy fruit. I was gifted a box single origin truffles. The truffles were a box of 15 chocolates. The flavors were dulce leche almond, chocolate ganache with blueberry jam, and fresh strawberry honey cheesecake. You can tell just from the combination of flavors that someone spent a lot of time and effort to develop an exciting combination of flavors for someone with an experienced tasting palate. The only thing I would mention is that these fine chocolates expiration date is only a couple weeks. So, you will need to finish your box of chocolates sooner, rather than later. Oh, no! I will have to eat my chocolates sooner rather than later, because they don't have all of the stabilizers and emulsifiers to make it last longer. I think I am up for this task. : ) I thought they were delicious. It was a lovely gift. So, if you see Dandelion Chocolates make sure and give them a taste.

S'more

Checked out this shop and tried their s'more and hot chocolate! The s'more was made with their house-made graham cracker, chocolate ganache and marshmallow toasted to order. The mission hot chocolate was foamy and spicy with Ambanja, made with Madagascar chocolate. It was rich and perfect for a cold day! I like that you can help yourself to a variety of chocolate samples! I ended up getting a few treats to take home!

Horchata chocolate & European chocolate

My wife and I were up in the city for a fun date night and decided to give this a shot after recently discovering it. When an outstanding hit for a cold evening activity. While you're waiting in line to order, there are chocolates that you can taste which is super fun and appreciated because there was a line even at 8 at night. Now on to our drinks, I got the chocolate horchata drink which was smooth, creamy, light and refreshing and the sweetness was balanced well. My wife got the European drinking chocolate which was exceptionally, decadent and flavorful. If we are back in the city this will be a must to try more flavors or to bring guests for a fun evening activity.

Amazing hot chocolate (it is not too sweet) and it pairs well with their cookie and homemade marshmallow. They even have their own chocolate bars (which are fantastic) that you can try as well. Service is quick and organized. Plenty of seats inside (but the place fills up fast especially in the evenings during the weekdays and weekends).

Ask the Community - Dandelion Chocolate

Is the European sipping chocolate vegan friendly?

Hi, No, the European hot chocolate isn’t available vegan, but both the House hot chocolate and Mission hot chocolate can be made vegan!

Is there any soy lecithin used in any of the chocolate?

I don't recall there being any mention in the few labels I looked at. But they are super responsive to questions like this.

Is the European hot chocolate gluten free? (I see that mix they sell is gluten-free)

Yes it's gluten free. Dandelion uses only three ingredients for their European Hot Chocolate recipe: whole milk, light brown sugar and 70% chef's chocolate. With these ingredients, their Hot Chocolate is naturally gluten free.

Do it offers dine in?

Starting 3/8/22, we now offer dine-in options as well.

Do you deliver (not online shipping)? I want to deliver som of your baked goods to a friend for her birthday!

Hi Katarina! We do offer delivery Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday in San Francisco. We deliver to some East Bay areas on Wednesdays. Just choose "delivery" when completing your order at https://store.dandelionchocolate.com. Hope this helps!

Do they still have free marshmallows with drinks during covid?

Yes we do! We pack them 2-to-a-bag and provide them on the side.

What is the parking situation?

As some others have noted, there is limited metered street parking available immediately outside Dandelion along Valencia. Side streets are sometimes metered and sometimes zoned. Spaces can often be found if you're willing to walk a short distance… Read more

What is the best thing to have here?

European style hot chocolate (thick and lush), torched s'more and the tiny dessert collection. The entire wall of unique chocolate bars with tasting bites

Are there outlets there?

Yes but very few. There are two at the single seating counter overlooking the roaster as Alex C. said. I wouldn't count on this place as a work station. I generally enjoy chocolate here and then move on.

No. Always busy but lots of seats and people are in and out fairly quickly.

I really like that you can choose exactly how many of each flavor you want in your box. I didn't realize that before, but it's a great option because you could literally get one of everything if you wanted to try them all. I chose orange, citron/lemon, caramel, earl grey, espresso, raspberry, and hazelnut. There was also a vegan raspberry option since the regular raspberry had sold out for the day, and honestly you couldn't tell the difference. It was delicious. I also tried the lemon in store, and the raspberry was my favorite. One small thing is that once they're bagged up, it can be a little hard to tell which flavor is which since they look pretty similar on the outside. Not a big deal, just something to keep in mind if you're trying to remember what's what. The owner mentioned he's had the shop for 30 years, which you can feel when you're in there. He took the time to neatly tie up the box and even gave me two complimentary pieces. The shop itself is tiny and charming with a good variety of flavors. A friend of mine has been coming here since childhood, and now I understand the hype. I'll definitely be back.
