Discovered this place a few years back when I began my annual holiday hot chocolate crawls. He has a few different types of hot chocolate, including bitter, classic, milk, white, or Mexican flavors. The very first time I tried it, I got it made it milk. This time I got the same. I can't imagine it any other way that would be enjoyable for me. Every sip was creamy, cozy, and like comfort in a cup. The chocolatier took some milk chocolate chips and heated the milk in front of me, followed by whisking the milk into the chocolate into yummy goodness. My drink came with a complimentary truffle. I got the honey vodka, which paired nicely with my hot cocoa, merely fabulous! I'm glad I caught the gentleman and he was able to make me a cozy, comfy hug in a cup. There have been times where I've come when he was either closed or he had ran out of hot cocoa to make for me. This time I made sure to go early on a Monday afternoon. He had a short line out the door, and I had to wait about ten minutes to place my order, but it was totally worth the wait. Inside is a small, cozy shop with a couple seats looking out the window, if you choose to enjoy your beverage inside. There is also a variety of truffles. Outside parking could be challenging depending when you go, but it was ok for a Monday afternoon. I parked right around the corner at the tennis courts and it was fine for about fifteen minutes. Highly recommend if you're looking for a nice place for hot cocoa over the holidays, over any time of the year in fact. Just make sure to call before going because he's not open all the time and when I've gone too late, he had already run out.
I walking around North Beach when I saw customers spilling out of this chocolate shop. Intrigued, I decided to join the line to see what the fuss was about. Even though it's called XOX Truffles, this small chocolatier offers hot drinks as well. Customers were buying them by the box, but I decided to pick a few to sample. 4X truffles ($1.50 each): +Dusted with bitter cocoa, the truffles had a crisp shell encasing a rich chocolate center. +Citron (lemon) and A l'Orange were bright and zesty. +Framboise (raspberry) was fruity and didn't taste like fake raspberry. -May not be good for gifts as these aren't your typical truffles: They're not colorful or perfectly shaped. -Earl Grey was very faint. Side notes: 1.) Free truffle w/coffee purchase 2.) Discount w/large purchases: For example, 18 pcs is $18.00, which comes out to $1.00/pc. 3.) Even though it's a small space, there were a couple stools indoors and a few tables outdoors. *Verdict: 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 d/t service. It was a one-man show and the owner was really nice. He greeted each customer, took the time to answer everyone's questions, and thanked each person as they left. As someone who likes bittersweet chocolate, I enjoyed these and would love to try the other flavors!
XOX Truffles in San Francisco is an absolute gem. The shop is run by a single chocolatier who does everything by hand, and you can taste the love and craftsmanship in every bite. The truffles are incredibly fresh, rich, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious--truly some of the best you'll ever try. What makes the place even more special is the chocolatier himself: he's unbelievably sweet, welcoming, and clearly passionate about what he does. It feels like you're exploring a whole new world of chocolate, and he doesn't just stop at truffles! He also makes easily some of the best hot chocolate I've tried in the Bay!! If you're in SF and love chocolate, don't miss this spot. A small business with a huge heart and unforgettable truffles!
A Sweet Escape in North Beach Even though I am not a big chocolate fan, I have been a happy customer of XOX Truffles for years. I love their truffles and coffee. This small, sweet shop is one of my favorite places in North Beach, San Francisco. Jean-Marc Gorce, the owner and main truffle maker, is very friendly and takes great care of his customers. His love for chocolate began in his childhood. He and his brother Ludvic would always search their home for their mother's hidden sweets, sometimes even mischievously blaming each other when caught. This childhood passion led him to a lifelong dedication to creating fine and delicious truffles. At XOX Truffles, Jean-Marc combines his mother's classic recipe with his own unique flavors, creating various delights for everyone to enjoy. The truffles here are amazing. Each one is a perfect mix of rich chocolate and creative flavors, showing Jean-Marc's skill and love for his work. Whether you like classic flavors or want to try something new, XOX Truffles has over twenty different kinds to choose from. One of my personal favorites is the raspberry flavor. The coffee at XOX is also wonderful, making it a perfect place for a cozy afternoon. The friendly atmosphere and personal touch from the boss and his staff make every visit pleasant. I highly recommend XOX Truffles to anyone looking for a great chocolate experience in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood. Absolutely delectable truffles - rich and creamy, not too sweet, with a wide selection of fun flavors (different infused alcohols, fruits, toffee); I got the cayenne and tequila - had a little kick, but not too spicy; will definitely be back
This little boutique of a cafe/truffle spot is so cute and genuinely makes me happy, Jean Mark makes the truffles there himself and always seems to be all smiles when you drop by. My favorite truffle here is the red wine one, omg is it amazing and paired with a cappuccino, it's just heaven sent. I've also tried the champagne one and it has more of a sweeter taste whereas the red wine has a deep richness that is hard to match. I plan to try each one one day and rule them all. Coffee prices are wonderful and the truffles are surprisingly affordable and lovely, I would definitely recommend taking a stroll here and enjoying your little chocolates in the park nearby and just dreaming a little dream because honestly how can you do anything else with a truffle and coffee at hand!?
Dangerous! My friend got me some of their truffles with a mix of flavors including mint, caramel, expresso, orange etc. it's just like a mystery box of different chocolate flavors. I couldn't stop eating

We are so glad we did because all these different flavor truffles were each amazing. We got a capp and sat outside saying "yummmmm!!!" After every bite. This place is worth it!! The chocolatier is amazing. Buy this right now!
I haven't seen the owner in 6 years. I've been coming here ever since I was a child. Still the best hot chocolate and truffle in the neighborhood. I ordered 3 today to go and had a great conversation with him. The receipe and the creamy taste brings back so many good memories when I used to go to school here especially during the cold weather. Keep up the great work, you're doing great! I'll definitely be back more often!

I came in about an hour before closing and got the medium rectangular gift box as a Valentine's Day gift. I really like that you can choose exactly how many of each flavor you want in your box. I didn't realize that before, but it's a great option because you could literally get one of everything if you wanted to try them all. I chose orange, citron/lemon, caramel, earl grey, espresso, raspberry, and hazelnut. There was also a vegan raspberry option since the regular raspberry had sold out for the day, and honestly you couldn't tell the difference. It was delicious. I also tried the lemon in store, and the raspberry was my favorite. One small thing is that once they're bagged up, it can be a little hard to tell which flavor is which since they look pretty similar on the outside. Not a big deal, just something to keep in mind if you're trying to remember what's what. The owner mentioned he's had the shop for 30 years, which you can feel when you're in there. He took the time to neatly tie up the box and even gave me two complimentary pieces. The shop itself is tiny and charming with a good variety of flavors. A friend of mine has been coming here since childhood, and now I understand the hype. I'll definitely be back. read more
I happened to find XOX Truffles by looking on a map and saved it to bookmarks for a future trip. I happened to be in SF last week and literally stumbled upon the shop when walking to dinner one night! Needless to say, I was SO HAPPY. The man working, who I assume was the owner / chocolatier, was very kind and helpful. Myself and two friends got the 20 box and he gave us one piece for free. I got the mint, espresso, dark chocolate and coconut and all were super tasty. I want to go back! It's a very cute, homemade shop and I highly recommend checking it out! read more

Stumbling upon XOX Truffles while meandering down the street was a serendipitous delight. This charming, practically hidden gem, instantly drew me in with the smell of chocolate and coffee. And oh, am I glad it did! XOX Truffles is a haven for chocolate enthusiasts. With every truffle I've tasted here, and I've indulged in every single variety they offer, the experience has been nothing short of extraordinary. These truffles aren't just delicious; they're an exploration of intriguing and fun flavors, each a testament to the art of fine chocolate making. I always grab a coffee when I go by here, if for no other reason than to snag the free truffle you get with every coffee. The coffee complements the truffles wonderfully, but that free truffle is a delicious trap, as I've never just gotten one truffle on my visits to XOX. The place is quite small, tucked into a tiny little store front, but the staff is incredibly welcoming. You will often find the owner behind the counter. He is both charming and knowledgeable on all things chocolate. This little shop is a must visit destination for any chocolate lover. read more
Ah yes, when I think of 'truffles', I think of the fruiting body of a subterranean ascomycete fungus, predominantly one of the many species of the genus Tuber. What? You don't believe me? You think I just copy pasted this definition from Wikipedia? I'm so disappointed you think so little of me that you can't picture me in my plaid sports jacket with my sniffing hounds foraging for truffles? OK, well, I was foraging for the other kind, I guess, when I unhesitatingly stopped at this tiny shop in Columbus. So tiny the owner snapped at me when I walked in while he was conversing with a customer obviously there to chat. Meanwhile, I was at the head of a line forming outside and was eventually granted permission to enter to peruse their broad variety of truffles piled in serving bowls and dishes in the display case. They're clearly handmade because they looked like the other kind of truffles, and at $1.25 a pop, they were hard to deny. I ended up getting a half-dozen - amaretto, coconut, and my favorite, spicy cayenne tequila (photo: https://bit.ly/3EHwTKG). Along with the $2.75 Americano (photo: https://bit.ly/3vcmjIs), I took my stash to the nearby Joe DiMaggio Playground to ingest them in short order. For a sweet French treat in the middle of North Beach, they worked just fine. This is our go to spot when we come to SF. The coffee is hands down the best in CA, he uses real chocolate in his mochas and you receive a free truffle with every order. From Spicy cayenne tequila truffles to crème de menthe to earl grey truffles, you can't go wrong. The service is top notch and it has a wonderful vibe to it. A cute little patio at the store front entrance allows for you to slow down and enjoy the taste of France brought to the busy city of SF. read more

Yum! The truffles are fabulous! These are what really truffles should be. They are coated with cocoa and are so creamy and rich. We've tried many flavors and they are all exquisite. The prices are reasonable and the owner and staff are friendly. If you buy a cup of coffee or hot chocolate, you will receive a free truffle. We also received two free ones after purchasing truffles. Don't miss this cozy spot! read more
Very authentic truffle experience. The owner was very kind and welcoming and the truffles are super affordable at 1.25 a piece. I got a raspberry and espresso flavored truffle and sitting outside was a very nice experience for a midafternoon treat. read more
Not much to look at, but they taste great! In fact, most of them look the same so if you get a Chinese takeout-style box with a bunch, you're gonna go Forrest Gump and not know what flavor you're getting. But thankfully, they all taste pretty amazing. L'Orange: This was my free trial truffle (in addition to getting a few in my batch), so I clearly remember this one. Had a very strong orange essence burst of flavor which complemented the chocolate so well. Maybe my favorite. Caramel: So I left my truffles out at room temperature and these were the only ones to implode a bit. They seem to be filled with real chewy caramel, not some caramel flavoring. A nice contrast to the other chocolate-heavy truffles. Cayenne Spicy Tequila: Probably the only truffle I wasn't crazy about. The cayenne and chocolate combination just doesn't do it for me. Plus the cayenne flavor kinda overpowered any hint of tequila. Espresso: Not sure how much actual caffeine is in this, but the coffee taste is strong. So maybe in a placebo effect, this gives you a nice jolt. It's a great bitter-on-bitter combo if you need a break from the sweeter truffles. Peanut Butter: A tad similar to the caramel truffle in that they seemed to use the real ingredient (i.e. peanut butter in this case) as the filling instead of just essence of to flavor the chocolate base. Like a very fancy Reese Peanut Butter! Dark Chocolate: Another nice burst of bitter. Pairs well if you've having some coffee (assuming you're a cream & sugar person like me). Amaretto: Yup, this definitely had that nice almond flavor. A tad bit creamier than the other chocolate-heavy truffles too. Honey Vodka: Actually did have a vodka zing. Didn't taste the honey as much though. read more

My favorite truffle place in North Beach. The shop was closed for vacation and has reopened. I don't get to visit as often as I like, so I bought 1/2 lb or 32 pieces. You get to pick the flavor and I got the regular chocolate and cognac mix.. Next time I have to remember the vodka one. The owner gave us each a sample for our purchase. I tried the champagne one. I still prefer the cognac one over the champagne one. read more
