Several months ago I attended a performance at Brava which is across the street from Dynamo Donut & Coffee's window kiosk. I got to the theater a tad early so decided to explore nearby businesses. Dynamo Donut & Coffee has been here a while. They are one of the early pioneers of artisan donuts before many others start their ventures/foodtrucks. Known for their unique flavors such as Maple Bacon and Lemon Pistachio. Flavors may change seasonally. I got an iced Chai Latte and Butter Milk Donut which may sound boring after I just talked about unique flavors, but it was so good and satisfying with just the right amount of chocolate goodness. I decided to get an iced pistachio matcha latte paired with an apple cinnamon donut (it is fall after all). My selections were prepared in record time, and I decided to take a seat inside their cozy storefront to enjoy breakfast before embarking on the rest of the day. The apple cinnamon donut was fluffy, flavorful, and not-too-sweet. The pistachio matcha latte was absolutely amazing - the light flavor of the pistachio completed the earthy matcha perfectly and was an instant favorite of mine (makes me wonder why there aren't more pistachio matcha lattes out there now). I am not sure why recipes have changed but things have definitely been different in my most recent visits. My mocha has been luke warm, like a children's hot chocolate, no notes of espresso and barely tinged with the color of brown but no real chocolate flavor. Feeling sad, I used to love their mocha. I am always going to seek out new coffee spots in any city I visit. Dynamo Donut & Coffee was what I found on a recent trip to San Francisco. Located in the Mission District, it was easy to find with the pink trim but parking was difficult like everywhere in the area. We circled the block once and got lucky with a spot right outside. I might have a little PTSD when it comes to parking in the Bay Area. If I can help it, I want to keep on eye on the vehicle. Customer service was a little off putting. This was our first time here. I walked into the building thinking the outside counter was for street service or something. We were quickly reprimanded and asked to go back outside and order out front. There was no clear signage and the employee was a little on the grouchy side. If I wasn't in a hurry, I would have found another spot. I was trying to interact with the grouchy guy as little as possible, so instead of asking about the menu or getting recommendations, I ordered what sounded good. I got the Vanilla Bean Latte and a sticky bun. I know lattes are milky drinks, but I think they went a little heavy handed on it. My drink had a very diluted coffee taste. It wasn't horrible, but it also wasn't great. Now the star of the show for me was the sticky bun. It wasn't what I was expecting, but it was good. It was rectangular and almost had a croissant like texture with buttery layers of perfectly cooked dough and just the right amount of icing on top. It was indeed sticky which made me stay in place on the street and eat it instead of driving while sticky bunning. Overall, the place was alright. I would prefer to not get a 'tude while on vacation so I was a little put off by the customer service. That sticky bun was good but I don't see myself having to come back anytime soon. read more

So I had to update my review. The coffee and matcha is very good, sometimes they don't heat it up properly so if you like hot items just request for it to be hot. There was only one person that takes your order that was friendly or smiled I only saw her working maybe twice & I don't remember her name but she had short black hair. The rest of the workers look at you like they are doing you a favor by taking your order, customer service is not their strong suit. The key lime donut was the star of the show. The coffee was good, and did the job, but nothing out of this world. But the donut. Dang. That's was a delicious bite. Still, we did come all the way there, so we purchased the last carrot cake donut and a maple bacon donut. Both lacked any unique flavoring beside straight sugar. This may be personal preference, but the donuts were also way too cakey for me--it was not fluffy at all, and definitely not fresh. The glaze was a orange and ginger which sounds like it could be a lot but it was saddle and delicious. While nothing blew me away about it, it is a solid choice on your way to work. It's all walkup so not much for atmosphere but you probably aren't looking for that if your just on the go anyway. The staff is really friendly and the dounoughts are pre-made so everything is super fast. Even though they are pre-made, they are super fresh. I ordered a cold brew and half a dozen donuts: vanilla milk chocolate, passion fruit chocolate, strawberry elderberry, pink lemonade, carrot cake and apple cinnamon. My favorite donuts were the pink lemonade, passion fruit & strawberry elderberry. These donuts had good flavor and you can taste the quality ingredients. The other ones were just ok to below average. My spouse especially loves the passionfruit chocolate and maple bacon. A cute touch is that they sell doggy donuts made with bacon fat for your little furry companion. I can imagine the back patio being the perfect spot to curl up in the sun with a drink, shaded from the wind that's whipping outside. On our visit, donut flavor options were plentiful, and we had a hard time choosing. We asked the barista for their suggestion, and got one they suggested, and one that was calling my name (lemon anything-sign me up!!!) Seemed some of the flavors were seasonal, while others were more classic; a little something for everyone, no doubt!
