pistachio matcha latte
Susanna L.

Dynamo Donut & Coffee was founded in 2008 as a local artisan donut shop featuring seasonal locally-sourced ingredients. This location in the Mission is a short walk away from Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, making this a perfect stop for those in the area (as I was on this morning). I decided to get an iced pistachio matcha latte paired with an apple cinnamon donut (it is fall after all). My selections were prepared in record time, and I decided to take a seat inside their cozy storefront to enjoy breakfast before embarking on the rest of the day. The apple cinnamon donut was fluffy, flavorful, and not-too-sweet. The pistachio matcha latte was absolutely amazing - the light flavor of the pistachio completed the earthy matcha perfectly and was an instant favorite of mine (makes me wonder why there aren't more pistachio matcha lattes out there now). With their delicious drinks and wide variety of donuts, I'll definitely be visiting Dynamo Donut & Coffee again when I'm in the area!

Really like their coffee, unique variety of pastries, easy access on the go or to stay and sip in their patio. Oh and the diner/bakery feel in the interior is very nice! The staff keeps their place clean and the service is always with a smile. The baristas put just the perfect amount of foam on top of any fancy drink. Best tasting coffee in the Mission in my opinion. They haven't missed, not even once!

This neighborhood gem has many unique donut flavors, plus hot coffee beverages (no cold options available except cold brew and juice). I ordered their Chocolate Rose donut. It's a delicious, very moist cake donut, so you'll want to wash your hands after this one or grab enough napkins! Friendly service. Complimentary water and glasses in the front are available. There's very casual seating area inside, as well as on their back patio. One unisex bathroom in the back, accessible via code only, but it doesn't have ventilation so it was not the freshest after someone visited, unfortunately for the rest of the indoor patrons sitting nearby...

I went for their special banana drink & the staff was very kind. They had a bit of a rush but it wasn't a crazy wait! Nice to read a book in their patio or enjoy a donut. Will try their 2nd location another day

Coffee and a donut

The coffee was on point and strong. The donut was beautiful and delicious, although my vieja only gave me a nibble, it was delicious. I'd go everyday if I lived close by.

So I had to update my review. The coffee and matcha is very good, sometimes they don't heat it up properly so if you like hot items just request for it to be hot. There was only one person that takes your order that was friendly or smiled I only saw her working maybe twice & I don't remember her name but she had short black hair. The rest of the workers look at you like they are doing you a favor by taking your order, customer service is not their strong suit. I get it could be a busy area and people are in their own worlds who knows, everyone is dealing with something but it's not that hard to greet someone or flash a smile.

The key lime donut was the star of the show. The coffee was good, and did the job, but nothing out of this world. But the donut. Dang. That's was a delicious bite. The lime was just a delicious burst of flavor, the sweet glaze seemed to be sprinkled with graham cracker crumbs which took it to the next level. The baristas were super friendly. We wondered if we weren't supposed to be sitting in the front room because it appeared disorganized, but no one kicked us out. It was chill and nice to see the pastry chefs mixing up their magical donuts.

Dynamo has such fun flavors! My nephew wanted donuts for his 8th birthday and he loved how colorful and unique the donuts here were. I love that they add mix ins to the donut batter and the icing. There's a cute indoor area to eat your donut if you want to sit, but I think most of the traffic is at the pickup window. The staff was friendly and helpful in choosing which flavors to try.

I was initially drawn to Dynamo Donuts because of their interesting seasonal flavors, but was heavily disappointed after my visit. The donuts are tiny (smaller than the palm of your hand), cold, and hard. Perhaps we just came on a bad day, because despite arriving at 12pm (they close at 4pm), they only had two flavors of donuts left, out of an extensive menu of 10+ flavors. Still, we did come all the way there, so we purchased the last carrot cake donut and a maple bacon donut. Both lacked any unique flavoring beside straight sugar. This may be personal preference, but the donuts were also way too cakey for me--it was not fluffy at all, and definitely not fresh. If you are looking to visit a donut shop in SF, avoid this one, it will only disappoint you.

Fun, creative donut options. Great staff, very nice. YMMV but it's an experimental donut place I guess. Some of them were really good.

As of April 2021, is the back patio open for seating and eating? Nope. I just called and they said it's closed now but might open in the summer.

Just a quiet marble table, a tiny vase with two yellow flowers, and a slice of matcha crepe cake that makes you forget what you were stressed about. I came in on a weekday afternoon and ordered the matcha crepe cake and a passion fruit refresher. The cake is the kind that looks almost too precise to eat. Dozens of paper thin layers stacked with the kind of patience most people reserve for things that actually matter. The matcha flavor is real, not the green tea powder imposter you get everywhere else. The drinks are thoughtful too. Not sweet for the sake of being sweet. You can tell someone actually tasted these before putting them on the menu. The space itself earns its own mention. Marble counters, natural light pouring in from the street, good music at a volume that lets you actually have a conversation. It feels like someone designed it for the experience, not the Instagram photo, which ironically makes it very photogenic. 4.7 stars on Yelp with nearly 300 reviews and I understand every single one of them. Amanda herself is incredibly warm and personable, which made the experience even more special. Now onto the cake: I ordered the double chocolate cake for my husband's birthday, and his exact words were, "This is the best cake I've ever eaten." Coming from a self proclaimed food snob, that's saying a lot. The cake was airy without compromising on richness or being overly sweet/heavy, like many traditional birthday cakes. The texture and flavor were perfectly balanced, and the quality of the ingredients truly stood out. I could easily have gone back for multiple slices. I'm beyond happy to have discovered this little gem in San Francisco and will absolutely be returning for future celebrations.

The tasting is enough for at least a few bites from each slice. I like the option of ordering the "sampler" and having the tasting in your own home. The designs for their cakes are that simplistic beauty that stands on its own. It's a very elevated look. The price point is on the higher end. Current flavor offerings are: lychee raspberry, brown butter/lemon, hazelnut/chocolate, double chocolate, and cookies and cream. You can walk in and purchase a slice for around $10.00. Juniper should definitely be in your top picks for San Francisco bakeries. There's so much hype these days on social media about pastries in general, but Juniper delivers. I always go with a Pain Au Chocolat on my first visit as my litmus test and boy did Juniper pass. I also enjoyed the Kouign Amann that my partner got. I NEED to go back to try more, and can't wait. I have a feelin' I'll over-order next time and take some to go. My only regret was not ordering more, but we were walking around and didn't wanna lug a box of pastries :) Would absolutely recommend - the line moves fast and the service is friendly. Not a TON of seating, but people tend to eat and move on, so you should be able to find a table for two fairly easily. Bigger parties might want to grab and go.
