This great place is great cool fine they have Kroeun nuts which are mixed of croissants and donuts. The young ladies at work here are very nice and helpful. We have lots of vegan options as well. For such a small shop, they have a wide variety and I definitely would come back. Also great variety of teas and coffees and matcha

Good doughnuts! Absolutely loved their raspberry jam bismark filled doughnut. The raspberry was real fruit and there was a lot of filling. Great flavor that was a a little tart, which paired nicely with the sugar glaze on the outside. The doughnut was fluffy and soft, no complaints. So good! Wow. And huge. The coffee cake doughnut was crumbly and soft, with nice notes of cinnamon. Their coffee was okay. The store seemed understaffed, one person had to do everything. They were friendly and doing it all/doing their best.

Randomly stopped by and got a cronut. It was actually super dense and sweet and could barely finish half. The other donuts looked better lowkey and would maybe stop by again but this one was just not it.

I've been a fan of Johnny Doughnuts since their original outpost in San Rafael. Today I popped in after a PT appointment at nearby CPMC Pacific campus. Donuts - * the blueberry lemon - excellent * the coffee cake - excellent * the cinnamon sugar twist - not good. Very dry and small in size. Definitely needs a good dunk. It was a take away order. Got home and plated all three. The donuts are made with potato flour. They're dense like old fashioned donuts. Make sure you've got a strong cup of coffee to go with them.

I'm a big fan of this donut spot. I've been going in since it was in Hayes Valley. I like the clean aesthetic and you can always see behind the scene. The hard part is always just ordering 1 donut. The staff is always professional and prompt. I will continue traveling to Pac Heights for these lovely donuts.

    Vanilla cream filled doughnut. Bad!

I was in the area so stopped by and got three doughnuts. First off they are expensive as hell but they are big and I wanted them for after dinner. First I had a doughnut with cream filling(in pic). It wasn't a good doughnut. Stale and almost too chewy! Now the cream filling. It wasn't cream because it crystallized. Very bland flavor with just a hint of vanilla. I had the other two doughnuts later. Same problem. Bland and tough. I won't be back!

Has a fun retro interior. Donuts are a bit pricy on first looks, but they're huge! The croissant / donut hybrids are definitely oily, but we liked them best. The oiliness made them moist! The old fashioned donuts were very good too, like a moist cake. Would stop by again to get my donut fix!

Inside of the raised lime poppyseed donut

I had bookmarked Johnny Doughnuts after a friend said she had a delicious light and fluffy raised donut here. Unfortunately, my experience did not match expectations. THE FOOD // - LIME POPPYSEED RAISED DOUGHNUT (1/5): the signs on the wall mention that their raised doughnuts' dough "includes fresh potato to give the final product an extra bite". While I do like raised donuts with a bit of chew to them (not like Krispy Kreme), I found this donut to be much too dense for my liking - definitely not light or fluffy. The lime poppyseed glaze sounded good on paper, but it turned out to be rather one-dimensional - like a generic sweet and sour, a bit too sweet, and didn't have much lime aroma. Adding some lime peel could've helped elevate this. - BROWN BUTTER PUMPKIN CAKE DOUGHNUT (3/5): this was the best donut out of the ones we tried. The outer edges had some decent crispy bits. The donut was rather misshapen, which two sides being a lot thicker; I liked the thinner sides as they had a better ratio of crispy exterior bits to the super-moist, slightly sticky interior. Flavor was decent. Also very sweet; I recommend having this with some coffee or tea. - CHOCOLATE CHIP CRODOUGH (2/5): croissant x donut hybrid. Each bite oozed with an abundance of cold oil, which was off-putting. The chocolate glaze on top tasted pretty standard, not noteworthy. I haven't had many crodoughs/cronuts before, so maybe this combo is just not for me. PRICING // The three doughnuts came out to be over $15, not including tip, which felt especially disappointing given that we didn't particularly enjoy them. I've had much better donuts elsewhere for the same or less cost. SERVICE & AMBIANCE // Service was good. The shop looks pretty clean. There were four seats inside along the window counter, and two small tables outside. Note, if you sit inside, your clothes may absorb the smell of donut oil.

The worst donut I've ever had. It's like chewing on a week old baguette with no flavor maple bar.

They are getting four stars because one of the donuts I had is a 12 out of 10. just wow it is amazing. It is some type of chocolate old-fashioned with sea salt on top and it is crack like I could eat one of these every day and weigh 500 pounds. However, I also bought a maple bar and that gets a -0 out of 10 light and fluffy my aunt Fanny. This thing could be used as a weapon. There is nothing fluffy about this dense brick of flavorless donuts. it's difficult to imagine how they can hit it out of the park with their old fashion and produce such a horrible product So I can recommend the cake donuts, but stay away from the raised. If there anything like my maple bar, you might break a tooth.

Maple latte & strawberry rose matcha latte
    Nidhi G.

I love the blueberry lime cake doughnut & strawberry glaze! They have fun latte flavors that use in house donut glazes. They recently added a strawberry rose matcha latte - I love the rose flavor but the matcha to milk ratio is a bit milk heavy. I love stopping here for a sweet treat after my morning walks on the weekend!

I love the location and you can grab a coffee & donut with tons of outdoor seating! However, the doughnuts are really dry and expensive for what we paid, it's not worth it! You also have to pay for parking!!

    Cute interior

Blueberry lime cake old fashioned donut- (3/5) The flavor combo was enticing, but the donut was very dense and tasted more like an actual cake instead of being crunchy on the outside. Chocolate Cronut- (3/5) Loved the texture of this donut. So many fluffy layers! It was extremely sweet. Each bite had a ton of powdered sugar. I couldn't finish more than a couple of bites. The interior was very aesthetic and instagrammable, and the staff was friendly and welcoming.

    Caly T.

Cute interior style of the shop, counter space and small seating outside. There is selection of coffee/tea available! There's a nice variety of donuts - i got the chocolate salted caramel old fashioned. It was a hefty large donut but fluffy and moist! It had a slight remnant oil aftertaste

I arrived at the bakery before it opened on a weekend morning, and there were already a couple of brave souls in line. I waited only about 25 minutes for the bakery to open, and once doors officially opened to customers, I was in and out in no time with my fresh pastries in hand. I enjoyed my almond croissant as soon as I got back home, and now I fully understand why Arsicault is at the top of everyone's SF bakery list. The almond croissant was still warm, the inside struck the perfect balance between fluffy and gooey (from the almond paste), and the exterior was nicely crisped. The almond filling is super rich and decadent yet not overly sweet. I also noticed - and appreciate - how Arsicault's almond croissant doesn't include toasted almonds on top, since these can often get over-baked and taste bitter. I definitely agree this is one of the best pastries in SF now.

I definitely feel like the team implementing the 7:45AM start time to line up has helped a lot. Not only is it better for the neighbors, but it also makes the whole experience feel a lot less chaotic compared to showing up super early and scrambling to get in line. Everything feels much calmer and organized now. As for the pastries: To be honest, it really depends on what you like. I'm one that gravitates towards pretty much anything with meat and chocolate. Because of that, most of their savory/meaty and creamy pastries are always a must for me. They're super flaky, flavorful and decadent. You can really tell how much time and effort they put into making everything as high quality as possible, especially since you can see them making everything from the window while waiting in line. All in all, I think there's been a lot of improvement over the past year with some trial and error. Their pastries have always been delicious and I personally think it's worth the wait. I recommend getting to the area closer to 7:45AM so you have a better chance of being towards the front of the line. If not, it's still better to come before opening, I just wouldn't recommend getting there right before they open. By then it's not guaranteed that you'll get everything you want since they do run out depending on how many people are there.

My husband got in line while I waited outside. It's on the first floor of the Japan Center Malls and easy to find in the corner. While the line was long it moved quickly and we ended up ordering two drinks and a few pastries. We had the drinks right away and I enjoyed their honeycomb toffee latte ($8.25) while my husband ordered a flavored lemonade. The Honeycomb latte wasn't overly sweet and the honeycomb on top was a nice treat. The honeycomb itself was sweet and crunchy and you can either pick it out and eat it or stir it into your drink and let it melt. The lemonade my husband ordered was on the sweeter side, but was super refreshing for summer. If you like sweet you'll like this- if you prefer less sweet or tart it may not be for you. We also brought home a few of their pastries. All of them were fresh and well made. The basque cheesecake was creamy and satisfying without being overly sweet. The chocolate chip cookie had dark chocolate and was really rich and satisfying. The last pastry I forget the name of but it was like a cinnamon roll but with an orange glaze and some cocoa powder, this one was also delicious and not overly sweet.
