If you're looking for a celebration or birthday style cake these are a classic in San Francisco. I am a huge fan of funfetti so I do really enjoy their signature celebration cake. It's sweet, colorful, moist, and vanilla flavored. You can order in store or on the app. Depending on what item you are purchasing you may need to order 24 hours in advance. This location is located on Chestnut and is typically bustling so look out for the sign so you don't miss it as you walk by. Generally it's not too crowded and you can walk up and order right away. They also give you a free slice on your birthday! Most recently I tried four of their cake slices for a celebration including celebration, strawberry, carrot, and coconut/pineapple. I really enjoyed the carrot cake it was phenomenal. The strawberry was too sweet for my liking and I would pass on that one. It's also dry and doesn't taste enough like strawberry. Susie Cakes is located on busy Chestnut. It is a smaller store but with lots of pretty goodies. Yes it is pricey but we solve that by cutting our goodies in half. Got some cupcakes and a whoopee pie. First night we split my least favorite, hubby's choice, a cupcake. It was moist chocolate with a nice hint of coffee in the icing. Both of us sucked in our breath, heaven. Last night it was the huge whoopee pie. It was two big chocolate cookies held together by delectable vanilla icing. Do I separate the parts like an oreo? I ended up eating my half as one piece. Very disappointing holiday pie pre-order!!! I pre-ordered a pumpkin pie during the Thanksgiving holiday, and was not at all happy. I don't know how far in advance the pie was made, but the bottom crust was on the soggy side and the crust on the rim wasn't at all flaky. It didn't taste that fresh. Definitely not made on the day of pick up or maybe even not the day before. The filling was fine, and like I remembered it to be from previous orders. BUT for nearly $40 after tax and all, with a crust like that is beyond disappointing. It was the only dessert we had on the Thanksgiving table, and noticed most people left the crust uneaten. I've gotten so many pies and cakes from here in previous years, and had always been more than pleased and willing to pay the prices they charge here. Received a box of mixed cupcakes for a birthday and they were the perfect size. Adorably decorated with an assortment of vanilla, chocolate, and red velvet cupcakes. My personal favorite was the mocha chocolate cupcake, which had a great mocha flavor and didn't seem as sweet as the others. Frosting is very sweet and with a mini cupcake, there's less cake to offset the sweet frosting. If your favorite part is the frosting, then this is the cupcake for you! If you're like me, I had to remove half the frosting in order to eat the cupcake. I'm a minority because both the Hubbs and the Babes thought the cupcake to frosting ratio was perfect. The Babes has already asked when we can get them again so they were definitely a hit! They have full size cakes in addition to cupcakes but the slices are too big for me, so I just stick to the cupcakes. They are pretty good at rotating different flavors due to the season. A great thing is that they are open until 8 pm! Parking around here can get really congested sometimes so if that's an issue there's the Laurel Village location which has a parking lot which makes it easier if picking up an order, otherwise there is a parking garage on Pierce street. read more

I have to say the treats here are comforting to look at. They all have basic cupcake style with cute hole punch sized sprinkles. They really do look old school fancy. Disclaimer: this review is for the red velvet cake only, as it is THE BEST red velvet cake I've ever had and it sets the bar high for all red velvet cakes that will be consumed by me in the future. If I could, I would give it a 10 out of 5! Susie cakes is known for cakes that are moist and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of sweet, richness, and vanilla. This applies to their whole cakes, cupcakes, and slices etc. I'm not sure how they do it but it's always the perfectly balanced and stays moist even after a week. The cream cheese Frosting for the red velvet is the star of the show, the whipped cream cheese frosting adds just the right amount of sweetness and when paired with the red dyed vanilla cake, it is a perfect bite every single time. Personally, I prefer having cake over the cupcakes bc the ratio of frosting to cake in the cupcakes is skewed towards a little too much frosting, whereas the cake is jussssttt righhhhttt. Their other cakes are also good, namely the celebration cake and the chocolate cake. But I wouldn't give them 5/5 only because they have comparables elsewhere. however I have yet to find a red velvet that comes even slightly close to the level of perfection of Susie's. The Marina location is small and generally a pick up spot. It's clean and the staff is friendly. I typically order custom cakes via their website and then pick up a few days later. Sometimes there is a queue but it usually moves quickly. Everything is delightful and beautiful. Their packaging is five stars their bags are status symbols. It's been a minute since I've had SusieCakes but we walked by a couple SC's locations during our visit and I figured it was a sign to just get the dang cake. I know SC has a FANTASTIC Famous Southern Red Velvet Cake (Deep red, moist cake lightly flavored with cocoa, filled & topped with traditional cream cheese frosting.). We learned that the cupcakes are the same batter as the cake but the kind human working mentioned the difference of simple syrup with the cake so we sprang for the cake and we had NO REGRERTS. It was just as good as I remembered. I don't usually like frosting but this one is SO so good. It's more cream cheese forward to me but has the perfect texture.
