All time best Schubert's Princess cake 8" 4/19/26
    Elaine Y.

Excellent Princess cake as always. An early Mother's Day treat. The taste and decorations are always consistent and reliable and beautifully presented. An 8" princess cake costs around $70. Definitely a must try if you love marzipan, jam and fresh cream. My favorite celebration cake.

The cakes are pretty good, but we had such an unpleasant experience with the girl that helped us. We came in and waited in line. Got called up. She asked us what we wanted and when we said one thing she kept rudely saying what else before we even had a chance to tell her what else. They had 50% off cakes and then we asked her the flavors. Then we asked how much they would be and she said look at the board, 50% off that. I think her coworker realized how rude she was being and intervened and let us know the price. We asked her what cake this particular one since it didn't have a label was and she goes same as the one on the bottom, read the label. She spent more effort saying that rather than just stating the name of the cake. We got ended up getting three cakes, the strawberry shortcake, chocolate mousse and princess cake. I would skip the princess cake here and head to ambrosia. Theirs are 10x better.

Grabbed a slice of their two most popular items: Princess cake: Nice, smooth flavors with a nice almond essence from the marzipan. I can see why this is so popular. Strawberry short cake: Solid cake that reminds me of the WF Strawberry chiffon cake. Overall, would recommend the Princess cake if you want a unique experience, but a slice is a bit pricey ($7)

4/5: Princess cake is good but a little too sweet. $7 for a small slice. 3 layers of raspberry with good fondant.

I have ordered from here many times over the years including my wedding cake back about 11 years ago. So I figure its time for a review! The cake that I recently got was good tasting but it really made my stomach hurt every time I ate it. We did finish it but something was a bit off. It was smaller then I remember it being and there may have been a layer of cake missing in the middle. I think I remember the cakes being 3 layers of cake with creme or filling in between??? It was advertised as having strawberry filling which it did not have. The cake we ordered this time was chocolate with strawberry's & whipping cream frosting. There was very little strawberry like maybe 10 -15 slices on top and not inside the filling or any other part of the cake so it lacked balance and acidity to break up the rich cream inside. The cake is flavorful & creative but I just have those few issues that I wanted to bring up.

I've been to Schubert's a few times, and I'm incredibly disappointed. Schubert's is located in inner Richmond in the San Francisco area, and initially was highly recommended as one of the better bakeries to go to for special occasion cakes. A cake can really make or break that special occasion, and they succeeded in ruining one. I had ordered over the phone, and ordered based on what sounded good, and what was suggested. The cakes are very pricey, and frankly overpriced. What may have been wonderful in years past, hasn't been my experience. The store staff is off putting, unwelcoming, and I dare say rude. I picked up my order ( mango mousse) for a birthday celebration. I had requested candles in a certain color, and was presented candles in silver. " That's all we have" it would have been proper to let me know upfront when I placed the order, and was told " no problem". The cake was horrible. All of it. The mango flavor tasted like tin/metal. The actual cake was dry and tasted like freezer burn. It was inedible. It was also $75.00. There MUST be better bakeries that offer delicious birthday cakes in the San Francisco area. This isn't one of them.

Was too full to eat dessert after lunch next door but couldn't resist to try the signature princess cake. It looks sooo pretty and dressed up! Got a slice along with butter cookies. It was great. If I were to order the whole cake I would request the sugar to be reduced by 25% or more both for the marzipan and the cake itself so I can taste the actual flavor of the cake instead of just sweetness. Selection of cake is impressive!!! I wish I live nearby

Ordered for pick up 24 hour before. I opted for the 6 in Swedish princess cake but with ivory marzipan. The person taking my order over the phone made sure the spelling of the words and names were all correct. Pick up process was easy - walked up to the register and told them my name. This bakery does have several spots for seating. They have a little sample tray in front as well. I noticed adding lettering was an extra $2 if you do it there but it wasnt charged for mine so seems like ordering in advance is the way to go! There were still plenty of variety and sizes of cake available on display when I got there at 3pm so I would think it's possible to do last min cake pick up too Cake was nicely decorated and tasted soft and fluffy inside. Only the outside marzipan layer was sweet. Price for the princess cake here is $2-$3 more than other places in SF but considering you can opt for another color here other than green is worth it to me!

Tiramisu mousse cake, and chocolate mousse cake

A friend recommended this place some time ago, and we decided to stop by after an early morning walking the Golden Gate Bridge. The bakery is on a pretty busy street with other restaurants and stores nearby. The display case was full of different desserts and has something for everyone, whether you prefer something more fruit-forward or chocolate-forward. The employees behind the counter were super attentive helping our party and other customers. There are a few tables inside, and luckily a table opened up just as we finished paying. We opted for the mini versions of the chocolate mousse cake and the tiramisu cake since we had just eaten prior. The chocolate mousse cake was amazing!, It was light and had the perfect balance of sweetness. The chocolate curls on the outside added a nice crunchy texture to the mousse. The tiramisu cake was also really good. I wasn't getting a strong coffee flavor from it, but it wasn't overly sweet. Chocolate desserts aren't my first choice and tend to be too rich for my liking. However, I'd happily come back for the chocolate mousse cake

CHOCOLATE MOUSSE W/ GNACHE (5/5) First an foremost, Schubert ensures that all of their cakes are beautifully decorated regardless of how big or small the cake is. This cake was a chocolate lover's dream, with a thin layer of chocolate cake at the bottom, a thick layer of airy chocolate mousse in the center, and a decadent layer of dark chocolate ganache to top everything off. This is much more mousse-forward than the truffle torte cake. TIRAMISU (3.5/5) Again, this is beautifully decorated. Someone else mentioned this is more of a tiramisu CAKE than a tiramisu, and I completely agree. The mascarpone is light and airy, but I found the cake layers at the bottom to be too prominent and unfortunately dry. The lady fingers on the outside of the cake were also a bit dry for my preference, though they certainly add to the aesthetic of the cake. The coffee liqueur in the cake was a little too strong for my liking as well. The store itself is larger than I expected, and neat and organized. Lots of items are on display and you're almost overwhelmed by choice!

Amazing cakes! We got the tropical mousse but I'll definitely be coming back to try more. I was eyeing the Black Forest cake

Do they decorate your order for a baby shower?

I know they will write on a cake but I suggest you simply call them for another type of request.

Do they sell out of cakes, is it recommended to pre order?

I came in 5 minutes before closing one time and they still had 4 cakes left. If you want a specific cake it's probably best to preorder but if not, then all their cake selections are pretty good.

    Do they have regulach? I

I don't think so most of the pastries there are French and Swedish

Do you other colors of cake besides green and yellow? I want blue. Thanks!

Are you referring the actual cake? If you want a blue cake, ask them.

Hi, I would like to order a cake for January 13th. On the phone they say they are back open on the 12th. Is one day in advance enough time for them? Thank you

Perhaps not. It would be good to have a backup plan, or at least be flexible as to what type of cake. Other people might also be trying to order. Good luck!

Can you buy Princess cake by the slice?

    Yes you can!

Passed by today but it's closed?

    On vacation

What size cake would be best for 6-8 folks?

    I think 8 inch cake

Do they have gluten free options?

Is the Swedish princess cake sweet or very sweet?

The Marzipan is not very thick so it’s a lot lighter then one might guess just by looking at it

Can the princess cake come in other colors?

Are they serving their cookies and smaller dessert options during the pandemic?

    Yes they are.

Can someone please tell me the difference between the Strawberry Shortcake regular or the Strawberry shortcake made in Whip cream less sweeter in the frosting vs. buttercream..which one is better tasting…

I am just happy they are even open during COVID-19. I will buy whatever they made :)

Are they doing delivery? If yes, through what?

    No, they are currently closed.

Can any of their cakes/desserts be made vegan?

I don't know but call them. They are very accommodating. Their desserts are beautiful.

Can I walk in tomorrow Sunday and pickup a Princess cake without pre-ordering?

    Most likely.

Their phone numb never works 🤦🏻‍♀️ Do y'all know if they have Tres leches cake?

They only answer their phone 9am-5pm m-f. I don't think they have that cake.

What is the filling in the eclair?

It's kind of a creamy custard

Are they open at the New Year 1st January? Am traveling and didn't visit before.

Yes 1/1/2019 from 9 am to 3 pm

Do they make wedding cakes? I'm looking for a place to make a traditional cakes. Most places in the East Bay are super trendy.

Yes, they do. My friend's wedding cake was from Schubert's.

I'm always hunting for spots like this because I have a weakness for those over-the-top, Instagram-worthy desserts that look like diabetes in a dish. Like most places in this genre, A Buttercup is small, modern, and minimalist with limited seating. If you plan to go, aim for off-hours unless you enjoy waiting in line for sugar. The decor is cute and trendy, perfect for photos if that's part of your dessert ritual. As they say, "you eat with your eyes first," and when it comes to presentation, this place definitely gets an A+. The desserts look stunning and set high expectations. Unfortunately, that's where things started to crumble. It's like going to see your favorite artist live. You've watched the videos, memorized the songs, and paid for the experience. But instead of the electric performance you imagined, you get someone lip-syncing and barely connecting with the crowd. That was this place in dessert form. We ordered the Mango Bingsoo on our first visit, and when it arrived, we were surprised by how small the portion was. The guy next to us even looked over and said, "Whatever that is, I'm getting that next time." He shouldn't have. The Bingsoo looked great but was bland, and the "snow" was more chunky ice than soft shave. The Thai Tea Roti was also not what I expected. It came with Thai tea ice cream and sauce alongside a roti that was fried to a crunch. Interesting idea, just not the best execution. The sauce and ice cream needed a stronger Thai tea flavor to balance the crispy roti, and the flavors never quite came together. Overall, A Buttercup nails the aesthetics but misses the flavor. If you're here for the photos, you'll be happy. If you're here for the taste, you'll leave with a full camera roll and an unsatisfied sweet tooth.

Delicious, and this place blew my mind when I tried it out…read more First off, very surprised at all the flavors you can get and try, including horchata, Thai tea, and ube! To be honest, when I came here, I did not expect much. I typically am not the type to get snow or anything icy, since it is not the first thing that comes to my mind when it comes to dessert, but I am so glad I got to experience this. When I came on a Wednesday night, it was not too busy, and my friend and I were able to get our food within 10 minutes. The spot itself is pretty small, with not a lot of seating, but some limited spots outside. I got the black sesame with condensed milk, and my friend got the mexican hot chocolate. I loved this so much, it had such a fantastic texture of being creamy but also light and fluffy. Probably one of the best shaved snow texture I've had. Tried some of the matcha snow and earl grey snow as well, and both of them were solid too. My favorite was still the cereal snow because I have more of a sweet tooth and the matcha and earl grey were less sweet. I would absolutely return to try more snow flavors! Service was really friendly and our 3 bowls were ready within a few minutes. Only one small bench inside and some outdoor seating.
