Both of my daughters (ages 5 and 7) shared and enjoyed Spaghetti and Meatballs which the chef split between 2 dishes before presentation. Then my Pappardelle with Wild Boar Ragu was mmm-mmm good! Though we were quite full, we still got dessert. We devoured the Semifreddo al Torroncino which arrived as a semi-frozen chocolate mousse with roasted almonds and pistachio and drizzled with Nutella. I made a reservation for Friday night and was seated right away. I think even without a reservation, we would have easily gotten a table as well. You have to come down some steps and it's a small and cozy space located right by Union Square- super convenient by train! We ordered salad to start and it was super tasty. I believe it was the insalada di campo. We loved the dressing. We had to try their pastas because it was advertised as freshly made! I ordered the paccheri Al ragu di polpo (octopus pasta) and loved my dish. My friend ordered the pappardelle with braised lamb ragu and it was delicious! I love that the pasta is cooked Al dente. Our server was very attentive and helped us choose between several items. We even got free cannoli at the end of our meal! Make-a reservation, this is a popular one. And once you do, immediately you'll notice the difference between this restaurant and any other (most) in NYC; you won't wait even a minute for your table! We arrived at our time, the GM immediately came up to us, confirmed the reservation, and boom! The table was waiting for us; clean and ready for a new experience, and a new family. None of the "perfect they're just getting the table ready" and you still wait an additional 10 minutes. An immediate A plus and a positive sign of things to come. We ordered the kale salad as an appetizer which had the sweetest Caesar dressing I've tasted with the most Amazing set of croutons, my goodness was it perfect! The portion was perfect enough for two people who love to eat! The main courses were an amazing carbonara and the house special: a pasta that is handmade, mixed with prosciutto, and tossed inside an authentic parmigiana wheel to absorb all that delicious creamy cheesiness. Mind you this is a restaurant in NYC where it was constantly busy: yet the food was delivered in the quickest of manner. The waiter the busboy the manager every person was attentive, kind, fast, and made you feel extremely welcomed. We had a child with us and they even gave him a personal greeting and interaction. As soon as we were done with our food the plates were taken away immediately to make sure our table was never cluttered. To top it all off we got cannolis which were some of the best tasting pieces of cannoli we have ever had. These people are quick! Once we paid and got up, the bidders and waiters immediately came, cleaned, picked everything up, and had the table ready for the next group. My focus of this review has been more on the service because that's how fantastic it was. But in no means does that mean the food was below service: you will get some of the best handmade true to its roots pasta you will ever get to experience here in New York. For a city that is known for its Italian cuisine and with its insane abundance of restaurants, pasta eater manages to make itself stand out as one of the best Italian restaurants, and overall food establishments, Manhattan has to offer! We happened to find this place after reservations at a neighboring restaurant didn't work out. It was a wonderful surprise. All three of our pasta dishes were original and delightful. The fresh pasta was delicious and prepared just right; you can see it made behind the bar. All three sauces -- cocoa (!), eggplant, and cheese -- were equally delicious and did not overwhelm the pasta. The atmosphere is bright and bustling but not overcrowded and the service is efficient and friendly. We will come back again! read more

The pasta experience at this hole in the wall restaurant was pretty good. We got carbonara and their signature pasta on a cheese block. Carbonara was definitely worth a second visit. However, their dessert was subpar. We got the choco-lava cake and they are my absolute favorite so I get it every time it's on any menu. The dish here didn't have a "lava" portion to the cake. It has a drizzle of raspberry purée on top instead which isn't what a choco lava cake is. We waited a while for our dessert since they were making it from scratch, so they gave us a free coffee drink. In all, good experience, nice ambiance, not ravenous food but not bad either. read more

I came in here craving some pasta and hoped for this place to be affordable compared to some other places that looked a lot fancier. The staff was super friendly (although sort of rushing the process of our time in here- I guess they're used to this place being super casual spot) I got the papardelle with oxtail ragu and my friend got the penne with a vodka mushroom sauce. The flavor of both of them were good but the pasta was a little too Al dente. When it is too hard, you cannot taste the springyness of the pasta and therefore the "homemade" aspect didn't come out for me. Instead I rather have gotten some pasta from the supermarket. Mainly because I felt like it needed at least 2 more minutes before it was taken out. For such a casual place, I wouldn't expect paying 26 dollars for a meal here. This was fairly convenient and close to union Square. There are enough tables that you likely don't need to make a reservation in advance. The pasta itself was tasty, but not the best. The pasta did have a different texture so you could taste that it was made fresh. Our drinks (aperol spritz) and appetizer (mushroom bruschetta) were delicious so we had high hopes at the start but it kind of went down from there. I ordered grilled octopus for my entrée - while the octopus was delicious and tender, it was SO SMALL for an entree (just one octopus leg! The majority of the plate was more grilled veggies than octopus) - I would have been ok with the portion size if they categorized it as an appetizer or it was less than $24 but for what it is, I felt more than a little ripped off. This would still have been an OK experience if my husband didn't end up finding a small piece of plastic in his pasta dish. My sister and I were craving pasta and stumbled upon this restaurant, while walking around the city. We came in on a weekday and to our surprise there was a lunch special. First time ever seeing lunch special for pasta which was cool, but looks like it's only on weekdays. It was about $15 for our plate of pasta for lunch special, and they served a pretty good amount. I had high hopes and expectations. But I was a little disappointed. My biggest problem was with the wine service. I asked about the Aglianico that was on the menu (the fact that I know how to pronounce it should have tipped them off). I was told it was a red wine from the south. Um, yeah, no kidding, I wanted to know about THIS one. I asked for a taste, and found it "off," the acid was out of whack, like it had been sitting around to long. The waiter disappeared and brought me a taste of pinot noir, without my asking. Now, if I'm looking for a full bodied red wine, a pinot noir is not an appropriate substitute. I don't like when restaurants just assume women don't know what they're talking about when it comes to wine. I switched to a Supertuscan wine ("Supertuscany" on the. menu, I thought that was amusing.) The food was adequate, I had the baccala ravioli in a cherry tomato sauce. If I go back, I wouldn't order that dish again (although I usually love baccala.) The ravioli was a bit rubbery, maybe made too far in advance? I guess I was expecting more. (I was saddened to learn that the "signature dish" can't be ordered without prosciutto as it is in the cheese wheel, not added as crisps as described on the menu.) The bread had zero character. We left and went elsewhere for dessert/coffee. Like others have noted, we found it hard to get attention. I wonder if I would have liked it better if I didn't have such high expectations. Pasta Eater doesn't take the crown, but it definitely ranks higher than other much more hyped restaurants (cough, Lilia, cough). The standout dish, the unique star, the special snowflake, is undoubtedly the delicious Fettucine al Cioccolato. Chocolate fettucine, ladies and gents and non-binaries. Chocolate fettucine. But savory! No sweetness whatsoever. Generously accompanied by a whole langoustine, tons of juicy prawns, fresh cherry tomatoes, and fragrant basil--this was so many things I loved in one dish. And clocking in at $23, this dish alone wipes the floor with places like Lilia or Ai Fiori. If you love cheese wheels, make sure to get the thick, creamy Pasta Giusto--and get your cameras ready! For dessert, the Amaretto Cheesecake isn't homemade but it is huge and tasty. The restaurant is hotter inside than the 93 degrees outside. That should've been our first clue to get up and leave. The house bread is dry and unappetizing. Ordered the Eggplant Parm to start, it was a greasy bowl with more cheese than eggplant just slapped together. The Pasta Giusto prepared inside the parm wheel was nothing great and a turn off when we noticed the same wheel sitting out near the kitchen with flies stopping on it. SERVICE- Came in on a Sunday night at 8pm, greeted by one guy from the bar. We soon found out that he is a one man show - running the whole restaurant by himself. He was bussing tables, seating customers, taking orders and bar tending. Props to him but because he was doing everything, he forgot to clean our table. There was crumbs and dried pasta sauce on our table. I busted out my clorox wipes to clean it, wouldn't have been a big deal if it wasn't for COVID. That worried me a bit. FOOD- I'm just so happy that the food was what I expected. I ordered the famous cheese wheel pasta, Fetuccini Giusto with shrimp. The saltiness of the prosciutto crumbs and the creaminess of the sauce complemented each other perfectly. Quality ingredients, perfectly cooked pasta, and savory sauce! Checked all the boxes for me. For an additional $5, you can add sausage, chicken or shrimp to any of your pasta (serving is pretty generous). Overall, satisfied my pasta cravings. I don't publish reviews on social media, but for this one I'll make an exception, as it may save you some time and nerves if you value a good atmosphere. The short-hair young bartender working here who also serves food and takes payments, has behavioral issues, not sure how he is allowed to work in a customer engagement industry at all. The employees here go with the script at start, welcoming you nicely and taking orders etc. Then, for whatever reason beyond you, they can act very weird like giggling between themselves when you ask for something, or not handing the check and then receipts to the person who asked for it. Repeatedly, purposedly. And, when you finally have enough and try to politely question this, expect them to be very rude and insulting. Just read the other negative reviews, see how many reported their insulting behavior, this looks like a consistent pattern there. And looks to me that this guy is the main character influencing such behavior. You absolutely don't want to experience this in a restaurant, no matter if their food is good or not. There are standards in customer service, and he lacks it big time. Being in support field for more than 18 years, I know how to talk to customers and service reps, but this guy is way beyond any limits. Needless to say, never stepping into this place again. To the management of Pasta Eater: I contacted you twice about this incident that happened on Dec 19th 2024 during lunch, provided all the details including my contacts in case this guy has anything to say to correct himself. Never heard back. If you care about your customers, you may want to take some steps to improve your environment. My friends and I came here on a Saturday night with a 7:30pm reservation. We had the worst dining experience in our life. First, we weren't seated until 8pm, and this was only after we tried flagging down the manager multiple times. There were a few other parties also waiting with a 7:30pm reservation and because of how unorganized service was, at least one of the parties left before getting seated. Once we were seated, we put in our orders (two appetizers - meatballs and octopus and five pasta entrees). Our entrees weren't served until 9:30pm - an hour and half after being seated. Everyone around us was also just sitting around waiting for food or service. Meanwhile, the owner was with some guests at a table near the bar eating, drinking, and dancing... Considering how understaffed and busy the place looked that night, the waiters were doing their best. However, management seemed unorganized and the managers were disrespectful. Food wise - the meatballs were dry and the pasta entrees were mediocre. Nothing special. The octopus was probably the best dish. I will never come here again nor will I recommend this place to anyone. No one should have to wait 2 hours for an average plate of pasta. read more
