We celebrated our wedding anniversary here in March and had a terrific time. We reserved two seats at the bar for lunch. I was skeptical that it would be overly touristy since it's in the middle of Chelsea Market, but it turned out to be such a quaint, quiet, and enjoyable experience. The restaurant itself, while in Chelsea Market, is set back from the hubbub, so that you can really enjoy a quiet experience from within a chaotic part of the city. I would advise sitting at the huge, oval bar so that you can watch the chefs cook (the kitchen is in the middle of the bar). The al dente pasta (thank you for cooking it properly!) and tiramisu were very good. I wouldn't say that the food was spectacular for the cost, but the overall ambiance, service and dining experience was great. And they also have natural wine, which is hard to find (I have no idea why!) in restaurants! Towards the end of our meal, we were delighted to have the owner and his daughter sit down right next to us. We chatted for a long time and that added to our experience. The owner really does want to make the best restaurant possible. Gift shop in the front if you want to take a remembrance home.

I was really disappointed at this dining experience. They recommend us to order the pasta as Al dente, which we know it suppose to be chewy. But their Spaghetti tasted super super hard, feel like almost raw. Sauce is sour and plain. Portion is tiny. Definitely not worth $30. You can get much better home cook Spaghetti within 1/3 of this price. As for the seasonal pasta. The pasta itself also tasted undercooked, like rubber. We can see the middle is white. The boar meat has an unpleasant strong smell. So strong that even the sauce can't cover that strong smell. Service was barely okay. We have to ask three times to get our water refilled... In general, we don't recommended this place. There's plenty of amazing Italian restaurants in the neighborhood. Try somewhere else.

Came across this place as we walked inside Chelsea Market, it seemed like a store from outside but we were surprised to find a very nice restaurant! We were sat at "The Oval" which does have a special tasting menu if you'd like to try it. We got their regular menu which was definitely still on the pricier side ($30-$40 a plate). It was really nice that you get to see the chefs cook right in front of you! Our waiter was such a nice gentleman, he was Italian and treated us with so much love! We truly felt that the service, comparing it to other Italian places we've been to in the city, was unmatched. The pasta was good, we've had better - which is why I gave it 4 stars - but I think it's personal preference. Their cacio e pepe was really good, but the carbonara was a bit too bitter, it could've been the guanciale's pepper coating. Overall, the service truly made our experience great. The food was a 7/10.

Located in Chelsea Market, this is a solid four star restaurant anywhere. Excellent pasta. DiMartino is one of Italy's best pasticcheriè so how wrong can you go when you're eating some of the best bronze-die extruded pasta in the world. It's well prepared too! I had the zuppa di Pulpo. Incredible. Great bar. Super deep in some top spirits, including rising stars like 2xO bourbon. Fair prices, too! There are a lot of ho-hum Italian restaurants these days in NYC. Especially in tired Little Italy. I would happily bypass Little Italy and some of the midtown standards to eat here.

The most delicious spaghetti in New York City

Located within Chelsea Market, this kind of blink-and-you'll-miss-it Italian restaurant only caught my eye because I saw a beautiful apron set in the window and thought to myself "oh wow that looks like Dolce Gabbana"...and it actually was a Dolce Gabbana collaboration piece. And yes, I bought it. I love La Devozione so much. I honestly feel like every time I go and get the classic spaghetti (the "La Devozione" with tomato and fresh basil) I am transported back to Italy. It's a total Anton Ego movie moment but instead of ratatouille it's this spaghetti. The dish just has that **flavor** that's hard to come by and I don't think many restaurants in the States can reproduce it. It must be the imported tomato sauce. My other favorite on the menu is the Candele Spezzate (with Neapolitan ragu and Parmigiano cheese) which is a meat pasta lover's dream. Both of these dishes are on their Untouchables list so fortunately they're on the menu year round. When they have it on their seasonal menu, the Bucatini Amatriciana is another pasta I have to have. Another thing to note is that I love how al dente their pastas are. Some people complain that it's too al dente but I love perfectly chewy macaroni and that's traditionally how it should be anyway! I hate mushy pasta. Service (in the general seating area) is pretty great and now the waiters recognize me enough now to know to leave me with a bowl of grated cheese to appease my inner cheese demon. I am not embarrassed by this at all. If the general restaurant area is full, sitting at the bar is a great option as they have all of their a la carte menu items available, plus you get to watch all of their unique drinks being made. If you're not in the mood for wine, I highly recommend trying out one of their cocktails. They also have a happy hour which I believe is from 4-6pm on weekdays so that helps if you're looking to save a little. Mentally, I will dock half a star for the The Oval seating area that (most) hostesses try to push on you when you first arrive. The Oval has nothing on my love of the general restaurant. I can't recommend The Oval to anyone after my experience there. The food, service, and attitude were completely underwhelming and certainly not worth the price. The general area with the a la carte menu is the way to go! All in all, I will stand by this restaurant to my grave as it having some of the best pasta I've ever had while living in New York City especially being in such an unexpected place. 5 stars to the untouchable spaghetti! Viva Italia!!!

Came at closing time but Chelsea Market never disappoints (unless after 8pm) but this place was still open and had a wonderful Slovenian red!

Recently went to La Devozione for a birthday and were seated at the oval, where you can watch the chefs cook your pasta as you wait. On the friday evening we went, the place was almost empty. We ordered the squash salad, boar and truffle pasta, and beef ziti. Everything was delicious, and as some other reviewers note, on the very al dente side of things (which tasted great!) The service was also great and it was cool being able to watch the chefs put together each dish. Overall I will say that the prices were a little steep if not using a Groupon, though the portion sizes definitely left us full after eating the one pasta each and shared salad. The restaurant also has a small attached store with something like 100 types of pasta shapes which is a cool touch.

Hands down my favorite meal while visiting NYC. The food was amazing. I tried 3 of their dishes and all of them were delicious. We sat at the bar so we were able to watch the chefs cook and it was really neat. I would love to come back.

Cocktail and Bar review only. I didn't have any food so I cannot review the food. But the cocktails - oh heavens - what a delight! Brando the Bar Back was such a charmer on the first round, I came back after my dinner elsewhere for another cocktail by him. I highly recommend sitting at the bar - the bar stools are like sitting on the most comfortable couch in the world.

We did the "peak" 4 course tasting menu. Went for a mini celebration for my husbands upcoming birthday. It was really cool sitting at the Oval, where you watch the kitchen prepare and plate the pasta in front of you. They also have a 7 course tasting menu. Cocktail was nice and so was our wine. Service was really attentive and the price paid was through Groupon so was worth the "experience". Obviously a tasting menu so the 4 courses might not leave you stuffed but you won't be hungry after. Ona positive note chef puts in work making sure everything tastes great. I really enjoyed this experience. This tasting menu would be good for a first date or anyone from out of town. I really loved how they sang happy birthday to my husband too. This is really authentic food and it's made with passion! Best tomato sauce I have had in years. I do agree with others that the pasta is not cooked enough, and portions are very small. But I can't complain because I had a Groupon. Otherwise I would think way overpriced.

(IG: @foodwithdeni) *Ordered the MEZZI PACCHERI ALL' ASTICE : Lobster, garlic, parsley from @ladevozionenyc inside Chelsea Market and it did not disappoint. From fresh ingredients, to quality pasta, the flavors were delicious! I did a solo lunch here and the waiters/waitresses were super nice and helpful in choosing my dish. I recommend eating at the Oval for a full experience.

    Sydney G.

Really cool place sitting around the chefs cooking your dinner. Seats were a bit... excessive? But they were a good laugh and comfortable. The spritz HH is great at $10 and the food was great. The ragu was so flavorful, and the pasta was the perfect al dente. If anything, I would want the ragu to have a bit more of a sauce. The cacio e pepe was so so good and exactly what a cacio e pepe should be.

What a fantastic spot we were the first in line and the crowd quickly formed behind us. The food was truly spectacular and watching them make it was also like art in itself. Service was just as good as the meal. My only regret was not having a large enough appetite to try more plates. If it wasn't for having to catch a flight my left overs would have been so phenomenal.

I arrived before they opened on a Saturday and still managed to be fifth in line, with several people lining up behind me over the next few minutes. When they opened their doors, there were still empty cases as they were stocking their shelves, so I'm not sure I had a full view of their offerings for the day despite being one of the first customers. I ordered the vanilla cream bombolone, the tomato focaccia (which came straight from the oven), a pizette (only because I didn't want to get half a Rossa for myself), and asked the staff to surprise me with a sandwich (they still hadn't been put in the display case). I must say, everything was top notch. I started with the warm focaccia, which had a great chew and the perfect balance with flaky sea salt, briny olives, and sweet tomatoes. The bombolone was light and fluffy and the vanilla cream filling was so flavorful. The pizzette was made with a laminated crust and topped with a robust sauce. To finish it off, my surprise sandwich was the salami, Gorgonzola, and fig jam. I think it could've used more Gorgonzola and fig to cut through the salty and fatty salami but the flavors were great. I had a nice picnic down the block at Riverview park and on my way back, around 11:30, there was still a line, but it looked pretty manageable. All in all, would definitely go again to try other items!
