Our cousin stays across the street from this restaurant and told us we should try their brunch, and I'm glad we did. They have a huge brunch menu. Very reasonable prices. $13-18 ish. Everything's made fresh and you can taste the freshness. Great portion size, great staff as well. The ambiance was very homey. We came here on a Saturday around 2pm and it was still packed. Great place for a weekend brunch!

What could be done to improve this horrible spot would be being more refined in how you handle food. One of my guests got food poisoning from the mushroom salmon risotto. This is incredibly unacceptable and I would advise anyone to stay away from this place given that experience and being witness to that experience. That's all.

Unfortunately I was a bit let down with this restaurant. It has a really cute vibe and the service was lovely. However, the food left something to be desired. My friend recommended this place since she lives in the neighborhood and we wanted some Italian food for dinner. My friend had the ravioli, but it had a very chewy / doughy texture. The filling was delicious though, so I am sure the braised shortrib on its own is good. I had the Franklin risotto. It had some diced veggies in it as well as chorizo. I liked the saltiness of the chorizo and the flavor of the risotto. Unfortunately my scallops were very overdone and chewy so not ideal. I know they are difficult to cook but I would think a nice spot like this would be able to handle it. I heard that this place is known for brunch, so maybe that would be better.

We've been making effort to try the local restaurants in the neighborhood. This past Thursday seemed like a good time to try the Franklin for dinner. We ordered a Caesar salad, the truffle potato balls, hanger steak with mashed potatoes, chipotle shrimp pasta, and the chicken Parm. The truffle potato balls were exactly how they sound. Truffle mashed potato rolled into a ball and deep fried. They were served on top of a toast with a guacamole type spread and a salad. I found this dish to be a little bit odd. I wasn't sure why the potato balls were served on an avocado toast. The Caesar salad was just OK. I thought the chipotle shrimp pasta was really tasty. They had made it less spicy for my mom, but it was still delicious and the shrimp were plump. I actually really enjoyed my hanger steak. I thought the mashed potatoes were delicious, simple and seasoned well. I ate half and kept half for lunch the next day, it heated very well. The entrées were for sure better than the appetizers. It also looks like they're most known for their brunch menu, so we'll be coming back on a weekend.

Wonderful BYOB Italian spot off the beaten path in the heights of Jersey City. The restaurant itself is smaller with only about 15 tables, but that made for a cozy more intimate feel. As a larger group, we ordered a few appetizers before our mains. The Calamari was a standout, with good spice. Across the board everyone was also happy and complementary about their entrees. The only dark spot was the half chicken being a little dry/overcooked. Worth the trek out of downtown for this spot.

Dined 07/10/2023 MO @ 5:15pm): The restaurant could've easily been named "The New York" instead of "The Franklin" based upon its intersection location! I had The Franklin on my bookmark list ever since my friend moved into the neighborhood a couple of years ago, so today just happened to be that perfect time to give them a try! We've passed by this place numerous times while we walked the lil' black beast, and it always looked so charming, like a café on a narrow French street while people sat at the surrounding tables. Now that we've made it here, how frank would we be on whether or not it was worth the wait!? PURCHASE Truffle Fries ($7.00): This was a plentiful portion of crispy spud sticks with a ton of truffle taste and a side of ketchup - nice start! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=68-hWdf6baEY3BZQzm7zUQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Crispy Brussels Sprouts ($12.00): Another plentiful portion of bite-size somewhat tangy sprouts that seriously could've been a meal on its own! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=GUReS2tbb8JWM8IDssGpTA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Mediterranean Salad ($15.00): A refreshing mix of greens and veggies with a light citrus vinaigrette, all it needed was some kalamata olives! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=dnh6hdcQeZAYPEmeJzKRQw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Grilled Hanger Steak ($28.00): Juicy, succulent, and tender sliced meat along with potatoes and broccoli, I'd hang around this place or another serving! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=NHD07p42gAAn-JiEedky9g&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Braised Short Ribs ($30.00): Flavorful fingers of tender rib meat along slim asparagus and buttery mashed potatoes, I wanted to savor this dish as long as possible! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=iH8DSkWN-iEhIRBcA-gR-g&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Homemade Lemonade ($5.00): This truly quenched the thirst with a slight tart to it! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=iF3yXY5vTncQ1f45l0DO8g&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Bread Pudding ($8.00): A hefty yet satisfying dessert drizzled with a caramel maple sauce! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=7TgrwytTlPVPpLevJmlBDw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Olive Oil Cake ($9.00): A spongy surprise with fluffy whipped cream that left a smile on my face! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=lWuKUAS84zpsbfWcrPIuLw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw SERVICE Immediately greeted by a friendly young hostess, we opted for an outdoor table since we had our furry family member, and it was such a beautiful day. She immediately gave us menus, brought out water https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=VXQZ_rZ6swkgQ1LlUakIiA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw and gave us time as we settled in. She also advised that they were a BYOB no corkage fee establishment, so we went to a nearby wine shop and brought a bottle https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=tJmrls1LLcKVBpZ9acgyEA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw for our meal. Once we ordered, each dish came out perfectly timed so we were overcrowded. She periodically checked on us and cleared away any empties. She was amazing the entire time - thank you! PARKING (Street Only; N/A this instance) We walked from my friend's relatively nearby place. Otherwise, as was the case for much of The Jersey Heights neighborhood, there were limited spots along the main drag of New York Ave. and all surrounding streets unless you were lucky enough to find an empty spot, or you took public transportation which stopped nearby - nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE An inviting corner location with vivid blue paint, we never made it past the sidewalk into the restaurant, so frankly I had no idea how it was there. Otherwise, there were plenty of covered tables outside as you watched the world go by. As you'd imagine, there was plenty of natural lighting since we were outdoors while minimal electric and street lights filled in the rest. I had no idea whether or not they had TVs or any background music, but we had clamoring street noise. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=G66Xk75NKoGgt-s9KJ8obA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL I loved The Franklin and couldn't wait to visit my friend so we could eat here again. Their breakfast menu looked amazing, and everything we had was top-notch. Thankfully, they allowed our furry family member outside (he loved to be with his hoomans!). The menus (especially the breakfast) looked wonderful and were extensive enough. I felt the prices were reasonable, the portions large, and the service impeccable. I found total value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $125.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS

Holy moly this breakfast wrap was huge. Each half was literally enough for a whole meal, and was overstuffed with eggs, cheese, potato and sauteed onions and peppers. They have a ton of standing lunch and brunch options, plus lots of daily specials. The brunch fair is pretty classic, but the lunch and dinner fare has an Italian twist and you can find lots of pastas on the menu. The interior is super cute and cozy. You can tell this is a neighborhood staple for those who live nearby. They are also BYOB which is always a win. Service was speedy and friendly. At lunch time on a weekday it was pretty quiet and most tables were empty. I'd definitely return for a quality meal in the JC Heights!

We went for Sunday brunch make note-Make reservations & BYOB! We made reservations for 2pm and shown up early. They could not seat us, bc they were busy and some tables hung around after finishing their meals. It's a small corner resturant (maybe 16 tables) with additional outside seating. It was too cold to sit outside so we waited for our inside table (also note: not a lot of standing room to wait inside -better to wait outside). Once we were seated service was quick and responsive. It's BYoB and they provided Champaign chiller & oj for our Prosecco. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Food portions are on the smaller side for Jersey City. Women were full & men wanted more but no complaints on taste or presentation. I would recommend coming to the Franklin but just be sure to make an rsvp & not be in a rush in case they are busy. We also had the donuts which are just ok, but the toppings(caramel and Nutella) were tasty.

Great spot for brunch! It is a little small so I'd recommend making a reservation if it's busy but they were very accommodating for a party of 5. Reasonable prices and lots of coffee options too!

Visit The Franklin for brunch with my family while in town. It was very easy to find but street parking we had to drive around a bit to find a spot. No big deal. We went on a Friday around 11am and it wasn't busy at all. It is a small restaurant so I can imagine it would have a wait on a Saturday or Sunday. I ordered a caramel latte which was really good and presentation was everything. I tried the French toast and it was good but I wasn't a fan of the crust. I also had an order of the brunch potatoes which was my favorite part of the meal. Definitely recommend. The waitress was nice but she did forget a few things that we ordered. She was more than helpful with getting those items to us quickly. I would definitely recommend this place for a cute brunch but not for a large party as the place is very small.

Stopped in for a birthday meal here during restaurant week! I've had the Franklin on my list to check out and it didn't disappoint. For the appetizer, the meatballs & calamari were super good and I thought the portion on it too was impressive. For the entree I got the gnocchi & my partner got the steak with broccoli rabe & potatoes. Both of our entrees tasted really really good too. And the deserts were awesome! Service was great too; super attentive. We also loved the semi-open kitchen! Only thing is we wish we brought something to drink since it's BYOB! Other than that, such a solid spot and so glad I finally checked it out!

We ordered delivery from here. The menu has several options for brunch and lunch. I had high hopes for the avocado toast, but was a bit disappointed. The egg was supposed to be poached but it was overcooked and practically boiled. They give you an option of wheat or sourdough toast. I should've gone with the sourdough because the wheat had ground nuts in it and the texture and flavor didn't work well with the dish. The mashed avocado was good, but overall, the toast was dry and bland. Definitely would've been better with a sauce of some kind. My boyfriend ordered the short rib sandwich and enjoyed it. The fries that came with both entrees were amazing and really hit the spot. We also got the ricotta pancakes and they were pretty good, but we were too full to finish them. For dessert, we had the dulche de leche doughnuts. These are probably better fresh. After a long delivery wait, they were no longer crispy. The inside of the doughnuts was very cakey when I was expecting it to be fried. The caramel sauce was very thick, but not overly sweet. Overall, I'd recommend this place. It's reasonably priced compared to other brunch spots in the area.

For appetizers, we got zucchini chips, fried calamari and mussels. The calamari was fried too hard and it had a very salty, spicy Chilean type sauce over it. The zucchini chips were thinly sliced, lightly battered with Parmesan cheese sprinkled over them. They were decent but nothing to write home about. In fact, after having about six or seven of the zucchini chips I began to experience heartburn from the grease. For entrees, my husband had the chicken parm. He said it was too thick and should have been flattened more before frying. It was also very breaded. My brother-in-law ordered the chicken and waffles and he said the chicken tasted day old so after having a bite of one piece of the chicken he pushed the chicken aside and called it a day. I called the waiter over and informed him about the chicken tasting day old. He didn't try to change it out or take it off the bill or get a manager. He just apologized by saying I'm sorry. My crab Mac and Cheese was decent. It wasn't seasoned the way I would have liked but the huge, plentiful chunks of crab made up for that. I ate a third of my dish and packed the rest for home where I will doctor it up to my taste. I've never been to this particular restaurant before. The only reason we came today is because my brother-in-law was here on business and staying at a hotel in the area.

I loved the fact that it's a small house like, cozy restaurant with a valet parking lot, which makes it even more convenient . I did, however, find parking on the side street and was even a pleasant little walking distance away. Since we were just a party of two, we did not need to reserve a table , but, if you do have a large party of people, you should definitely call and reserve! The restaurant isn't that big at all, so, there might be a little wait time, if you're there at a busy time. We were there on a Saturday night( two people) and waited for about ,not even 10 minutes. However, it's definitely worth the wait! It's a family friendly atmosphere and the service was very good! Very friendly staff and pretty fast service. Since the portion of the Chicken is pretty big, the side dish of the spaghetti, is just PERFECT! It's sauce and cheese is just mouth watering and a must have!! Now,Let's talk about their House Salad! DELICIOUS!! Their house dressing was so tasty and fresh and definitely makes their salads stand out! That homemade tasting bread was also very good and crunchy! I definitely Recommend, trying their House Salad and Chicken Parm! The house salad portion ,was just perfect for two people. As we loved everything about Laicos, and were completely Stuffed, lol! Both were great and cooked perfectly. The quality of ingredients were a standout in both of the dishes. Pork pampanella was the most tender pork I've ever had. Basically melted in your mouth. Very fatty and heavy (a little too heavy...) but delicious. 4.5/5 overall. Some of the dishes were missing a little something to take it all the way but I'd still recommend this spot tho. Also it's BYOB!

Made an 8:30 reservation on a Thursday. The first dish was out in 15 minutes. I highly recommend…read moregetting the rutabaga leek appetizer ($16) while available. This was creamy, fresh, and absolutely delicious. The now classic honey ricotta toast never disappoints ($14). They currently have my favorite, the Malfaldine with speck, grana padano, and black pepper ($22) - Get this. They no longer have the baccala and potato skin with chive ravioli. This was a fun play on potato skins. Some of the pasta had the baccala while others had the potato mascarpone. Although entertaining, it was less memorable than the other dishes. The smoked paprika pork shoulder was a dish that could feed 4. It's a massive cut of meat. While I did enjoy this, I needed more of polenta or a sauce. As anticipated it was very meat forward ;) For dessert I highly recommend their classic olive oil cake. This was moist and had a small Tablespoon of a guava sauce. For $10 don't miss this. The salted chocolate cake was a bit dry, but satisfied the sweet tooth. This went well with a double espresso. We stayed until closing and in fact were seated 15 mins past closing. Our waiter was kind and charming. He gave us his recommendations. Despite the menu being small and rotational, it always feels like there is something new and exciting to try. The Rutabaga and leek was that for me this time. I assume this is a winter dish. I recommend trying this before they move to a Soring menu and I wouldn't miss it!
