    Gnocchi Bolognese
    Mandisa N.

I've had this place at the top of my mind since I found out about it, and I am so happy I finally got myself to go while I was in the area. It is in a relatively calm part of the busy shopping district, which I greatly appreciated. The store is a little small; there's only about 8-10 spots (and itll be a tight squeeze) to sit, just so you know.   This was only my second time having gnocchi, so I was excited to continue this food experience. I was a little skeptical about the sizing, but trust, the regular is the perfection portion. I went with the bolognese and grabbed a tiramisu for dessert. It came up to about $22 before tip. It's a little pricey, but that's New York for you.   Now the food - as I said, I am a gnocchi amateur, but something I really liked the first time I had it was that it was crispy. That was sorely missed here. A quick pan fry would've elevated this so much for me, but that may just be a personal preference. I guess that's why they sell bags of gnocchi for you to take home and do your own thing? It would be cool to add the option of some kind of crunchy topping. Despite that, it was delicious. The bolognese is very good. I actually do plan on going back to try the carbonara and cacio e pepe. The tiramisu was yummy too, not too sweet and just the perfect size. It's not the best I've ever had, but I would get it again when I go back.   All in all, I liked this place. I really would like to encourage an optional change in the textural experience (and please have a free water station). I'll be back and I would recommend it. It's a really cool concept!

    Gnocchi Pesto

Being visitors in NY, my partner and I were starving from our random explorations of the city. We spotted an adorable gnocchi sign, and after staring at the menu from the outside, we decided to order pesto gnocchi to satisfy our tummies. We saw one person working in the front and to our surprise, she was also the chef! She was super sweet and patient with us when taking our order and then swiftly created our pasta. The gnocchi was perfectly soft and pillow-like with every bite. Absolutely fresh and warm, with the perfect serving. The interior was new and adorable. There was a Polaroid camera to take quick photos with as memorabilia. Super clean and cute decor as well. I'd recommend trying it out!

Are you going to the Joyce for a wonderful evening of dance ?…read more Do you prefer a location close by ? Is inexpensive Italian food a preferred choice ? If you answered "yes" to all three, then Fumo is a place to seriously consider. The restaurant is bright and comfortable. The service is fast and attentive. The menu has lots of excellent choices. The portions are generous. The prices are very reasonable. There you go ! Fumo is for you, (at least the Chelsea location) is for you. Any drawbacks ? youi ask.....well, yes, there is one, and it should be cosnidered. The restaurant is so so so popular that the noise level can be a bit ..... shall we say "daunting." Fumo is a great place but if you want a soft, quiet place to have a serious conversation, maybe save it for another time....

This means those dishes aren't truly gluten free for people with celiac disease or anyone who has to avoid gluten. When I pointed that out to my server, he just gave me a blank stare. I tried to explain why labeling those items as gluten free is misleading, but he seemed completely disinterested, even annoyed, dismissed what I was saying, and simply responded that the pasta is gluten free. I acknowledged that the server doesn't write the menu, but absolutely zero customer service skills. The service overall was lacking. Aside from taking our order, no one checked on us or came back to see if we needed anything. Our server was just hanging out chatting up the hostess. We had to request the bill from the manager & paid at the hostess stand. Before paying, I spoke with the manager and explained what had occured. He was more professional than the server, but he was still dismissive of my concerns and of the service we received. Management seemed happy enough to promote the "option". The food was okay, definitely not enough to make up for the poor service and handling of a serious dietary issue. Needless to say I will not be returning.

Water and excellent bread arrived immediately and the waiter was helpful describing dishes and giving advice. Salads were fresh and crisp. Caesar was nicely dressed and the mixed salad was a nice combination with well balanced herb vinaigrette. Seafood dishes had large amounts of fresh seafood and the veal picatta had the lemony flavor you expect without excessive acidity. Dessert was tasty and innovative. The ricotta based cheese cake wasn't as smooth as the cream cheese form but the citrus flavor was great. Throughout the meal water and bread were refilled, plates from completed courses removed and next delivered without being overly hovering. All in all a really great meal.

It works especially well for a mixed group since they have plenty of options including dishes without meat and everyone can find something. Even my picky niece and nephew were happy. My favorite entree is the Capellini Puttanesca, with capers, olives, basil, and anchovies. It's super tasty, satisfying, and the perfect portion. I also love that they offer wine by the glass and the service is consistently attentive. The waiters are always moving through the room, checking tables, refilling water, and making sure people have what they need. It's good, reliable, and near Broadway. NOTES/TIPS: **Reservations recommended via Google, Open Table; wheelchair accessible; clean bathrooms.
