We were invited in by the owner, who was helping a woman in with her stroller when he saw us checking the place out from the sidewalk. We got glasses of wine, mezzelune, and pesto gnocchi. My girlfriend's enjoyed her mezzelune, but my gnocchi were a revelation. The softest, pillowiest gnocchi I've ever eaten, they dissolved in my mouth. I was at this popular Italian spot known for its homemade pasta a while ago with a larger group. The same group had been there before, and apparently, the first time, the food was a lot better. However, I still enjoyed my meal for the most part, with the pasta quality in general being very nice, though I found some of the food a tad salty. This is even coming from someone who doesn't usually mind slightly oversalted food, and some people found some of the pasta inedible. The prices were high as expected, as it's Flatiron, but the portion sizes made up for it. It was a bit loud inside as the tables were a bit cramped, but I still had an enjoyable experience. The service was very friendly, with, I believe, one of the owners coming around to many of the tables speaking Italian. They brought out some bread, which is a thoughtful gesture and common in most Italian spots, though less necessary here, as we were going to be sharing a whole lot of carbs soon. It was still good quality garlic bread, and the olive oil was nice as well. To drink, I had a Negroni, but one that's not currently on the menu. It featured one of my favorite amari, Vecchio Amaro del Capo, and I believe it was called the Capo or similar and had bitters along with something else. I remember liking it, and it was presumably around $18, like most of their cocktails. Soon, a bunch of our dishes arrived. My favorite was easily the $32 Garganelli With Lamb, which had a well-flavored ragù. I also liked how the meat wasn't fully cooked down, so there was still some texture. The pasta perfectly soaked up the rich and tasty sauce. The other ragù of the night was a dish that was listed as a monthly special, but now appears to be on the menu permanently. This was the Cacao Fettuccine And Duck for $30 with duck ragù, orange zest, and rosemary. The pasta had a brownish-black color, close to but not exactly as black as let's say a spaghetti al nero. The bit of orange zest and rosemary added a uniquely mild bitterness and herbal flavor. I found the ragu otherwise a bit less flavored, but it was still good, and I would recommend it. The signature dish of the place is the $29 Pasta Guisto, listed as tagliatelle prepared and served in a little wheel of parmigiano & topped with crispy prosciutto. This dish has a fun tableside presentation, and there were plenty of people all around ordering this and taking photos or videos of the preparation. The dish itself was creamy, rich, and a tad salty. I liked that the prosciutto was crispy, as it added a nice crunch. There was also the Casoncelli for $29.00, listed as homemade veal ravioli with crispy speck and guanciale filling with sage and butter sauce. The filling had a bit of saltiness, but not too much for me, at least. The dish was a bit rich overall, but I still liked it to an extent. My least favorite was the Ravioli Al Baccala for $27.00, listed as homemade ravioli stuffed with cod fish in Livornese sauce with garlic, olives, capperi, tomato sauce, and oregano. This was a bit more artful with a prettier presentation compared to other dishes, but I found it way too salty. The filling reminded me a bit of a puttanesca, outside of the mashed cod. This was alright with some, but others disliked it. I would give more descriptions of all these dishes, but everything outside of the duck ragu wasn't the most interestingly flavored. The pasta was perfectly cooked, so if you're looking for a fun spot with perfectly cooked pasta and friendly service, I would recommend this place. However, there are other spots if you want more unique Italian food at a similar price point. I would also stick with the ragus, as mentioned. read more

A pleasant eatery that is very much "hole-in-the-wall" vibes. I ordered the arancini riceballs which were quite flavorful and the marinara sauce on top wasn't too sweet which I always appreciate. For my entree, I got a specialty pasta in a lamb ragu sauce with orange zest. While lamb isn't for everyone, it added a new dimension of flavor to the dish and wasn't too gamey in nature. Pasta was well cooked and sauce was tasty. Service was great as well. They consistently checked up on the table to ensure everything was good and we had everything we needed. The pastas are handmade, but the only one we loved was pasta guisto -which is their signature dish however the pancetta made it very salty We did not like codfish ravioli, casoncelli, cacao fettuccine, garagenelli with lamb. The pasta were perfectly cooked, but the dishes did not execute on flavor, profiles, balance. I might go back and try a few other dishes (friends like the BUCATINI AMATRICIANA and papperdelle), which we did not order )but overall was not impressed. Came here for a late-ish lunch (after 1pm) of sorts during a weekday. This was sort of a work-ish lunch for me (met my fiancée's boss!) The crowds were fairly minimal so it was easy to get seating. Contrary to what the name may assume, there are more items than just pasta. The paninis looked tempting, until my fiancée told me those were going to be super huge. Therefore, I stuck with the namesake pasta for my experience. The mac and cheese tempted me, but I stuck with another traditional item: penne vodka. First, the bread was addicting. Very soft and fresh. The pasta arrived quickly afterwards. You could tell it was fresh and homemade. It was tasty and it didn't make me feel super heavy afterwards. No regrets on my side. If the pasta wasn't enough, we got ourselves some dessert. We split a mousse that had pistachio and almonds. Not a bad choice. Overall, a solid place to grab some pasta. A narrow long space with counter seats available. Tiny tables for 2. Started with a pistachio martini which was so good I wanted to guzzle it. Love this restaurant! This place reminds me of restaurants I frequented during my travels in Italy. The place is well decorated, clean and great for date night, business meal or just a casual meal with friends. The wait staff is friendly, well trained, knowledgeable and incredibly attentive. I've eaten here twice and both were memorable. First time with my daughter. We ate the squid ink pasta with clams and the pappardelle with wild boar ragu which was as tasty as that prepared by my favorite restaurant in Torino, Italy. Both were delicious and incredibly prepared. My next visit to Pasta Eater I took my daughter plus four cousins. We decided to order six different pastas and created our own tasing menu. This place was recommended for their fresh, hand made pasta and great service. I decided to give them a try and chose to sit at the bar. I was greeted right away and asked whether I wanted sparkling or still. That's still something I have to get used to every time I come to NY! I had already seen the menu online but wasn't aware of the drinks. Unbeknownst to me, they have two happy hours, so I def took advantage. I chose the pistachio martini for my first drink but ended up not caring for it. I then chose a regular Cosmo and was satisfied. They gave me bread and oil and I chose the kale Caesar to start and the fusilli pesto as my main. The bread and oil were ok. I was a little disappointed the bread was cold as most bread service I'm used to was hot. Fortunately, the oil more than made up for it as it was fresh. The kale Caesar was pretty good but I was surprised when I tasted spinach and NOT kale. It wasn't bad but had a ton of dressing. Shortly after finishing, my fusili arrived. I savored each bite of pesto and each bite was better than the next. I asked for my check in Italian and that's where the real fun began. I'm unsure if it's standard, but they gave me a shot of limoncello and a small cannoli. The shot hit the spot and gave me a jolt of energy that I was missing. The cannoli was the perfect size; not too big, not too small but just right. I ended up calling my friend who's Italian because he's Napolitano and one of the guys working there was too. I'm embarrassed and disappointed that I took my partner here to celebrate his birthday. Service was rushed, the food was served lukewarm, and we saw our waitress twice during the entirety of our visit. The first time we came to Pasta Eater was on a weekday when the food was served hot and the service was friendly. But on Saturdays, the restaurant seems to be at war with their patrons in which the front of house are indifferent soldiers resigned to their deaths. Our waitress was slow and unbothered, it looked like she was reprimanded by the front of house manager which only made her more inefficient at her job. Our pasta giusto came out lukewarm. The biggest slap in the face was seeing other tables getting visibly steaming tagliatelle while our tagliatelle was not. One of the busboys who made the pasta in the pasta wheel was nice of enough to refill our water... then left with our water canister leaving us without water for the second half of our night. It was obvious the restaurant was understaffed. My partner and I ordered a tiramisu, which we meticulously picked at knowing that the staff would find a way to kick us out if we finished our dessert fast. Even worse, the waitress tried to take our unfinished dessert without warning. My partner was so horrified he urged me to use the bathroom to get ready to leave. The last straw was when the staff started singing happy birthday for another customer while we sat at our table dumbfounded by the nonexistent service and lukewarm pasta we were served. While no birthday song could've fixed our experience, the fact that we didn't get one after what we experienced was egregious. So if you're celebrating a birthday on a weekend and you're anything but Italian, run far away. Spend the extra money and go to Rezdora or Ammazzacafe, where they'll treat you like human beings and serve you great food every day of the week. read more

I recently dined here with my husband for our anniversary. We made reservations through OpenTable and good thing we did since this place was popping with patrons. I saw them on my feed from the Pasinis on social media and we had to come see what this place offered. The restaurant itself is tastefully decorated. Fresh pasta being made everyday in front of house. We started with some of their house Pinot Grigio and the buratta appetizer served with sliced sweet grape tomatoes and a pesto sauce. Wow we loved how refreshing this dish was. The combination was the perfect bite. It was also great spreading some on the fresh focaccia bread they gave for the table. For the mains my husband got the lasagna and I got their signature dish- pasta giusto. The lasagna was perfect. It had a nice robust tomato sauce and had layers of pasta that was so soft and delicate. A dish I would consider getting next time myself. The pasta giusto was a show itself. It's finished table side being tossed in a wheel of parmigiano and crispy prosciutto. For me it was a little on the salty side for me because of the prosciutto. There were generous portions, so I took the leftovers home. Dessert we had shared the Nutella tiramisu and the cannolis. The cannolis had a nice crisp shell with the creme which truly shined being smooth and light. The tiramisu was super creamy and just the right balance and great ending to the meal. Since the venue is small, the tables are close together too. You'll no doubt hear other conversations. The service was excellent and found them to be very attentive. I went with a group of friends and decided to get something on the much lighter side - peach salad. While it was very good, I think they could have offered a little more lettuce. I want to gate keep this place so bad, but I know it won't do this place justice. As a note, I am a big fan of Misi, Lillia, Don Angie, Piccola Cucina, and Forma Pasta (not a fan of Torrisi). Also, we can taste quality pasta by texture and color vs. heavily industrialized Barilla (specifically, we avoid buying bright yellow pasta that has had the cooling process sped up). The portions here were very generous with the actual pasta and chunks of Guanciale in our amatricianna and carbonara pastas. The pastas were perfectly el-dente and we loved the handmade concept where some of the pasta pieces were imperfect. But really, the lunch special for $45 a person was priced extremely reasonably for a NYC Manhattan restaurant with handmade pasta and family style appetizers. Taste wise, the flavors were authentic Italian and validated by my 100% Italian partner. We had to be careful to pace ourselves on the bread with olive oil, calamari, meatballs, charcuterie, and pastas. Very satisfied and we got our moneys worth! Be still my heart.. The restaurant entrance is on the lower level so be aware if any guests have challenges. Parking garages are everywhere, not a problem. To start, We ordered Insalata di Piere as well as a meat & Cheese board. The poached pears and toasted walnuts were a fantastic addition to the salad. The small meat board had great cuts of various meats: Speck, mortadella and a wonderful dark salami. The cheese was mild and paired nicely with all of the meats. The owner comes by to see how we're doing. We tell him we're going to Rome in a few weeks and we're excited to experience everything! He takes out his phone and starts suggesting things we have try. Then, he calls us over to another table and introduces us to a couple from Boston. The gentleman texted me a list of great things to do while in Rome. The pesto sauce was flavorful and creamy but not overpowering, and the fusilli were fatter than they usually are when I boil them from the box, so I knew it was fresh. I was also super impressed by their portions, and my to-go bag came with a side of parmesan AND bread. I was so pleased to see it all when I opened the bag. I will say I had ordered sausage with my pasta, and it didn't come with it, which was disappointing. The only thing was I felt a little awkward when I was waiting for my food. They didn't have a host at the door, so I had to keep trying to make eye contact with the waiters in order to get a menu and get my food ordered and pay the bill, etc. They also didn't invite me to sit down anywhere, so I was kind of awkwardly standing near the door. The spray painted pasta shapes on the ceiling feel out of place. Placemats were thick paper but some were laminated and some weren't which was a little strange. There was not a long wait, but the dishes came out one at a time, which is awkward in a group. When the food came out, for a $25 price tag per dish, we expected a little bit more in quantity and presentation. At the end of the day, it's just pasta. I work next door, and always wanted to visit. My coworker and I came to this restaurant at 12noon, to treat ourselves to a pasta lunch. Only to be ignored for 40 (FOURTY) minutes. We had to get up and grab our own menus. Then and only then is when someone came to speak with us. He gave us menus filled our dirty glasses with sparkling water and left. After waiting ALL THAT TIME, I decided it's time to leave. I asked our server why we aren't being served. When all the tables around us had received food and multiple rounds of drinks. He quickly rang up the $8 bottle of sparkling water and pushed the receipt to me. Not even a mention of apologies OR a reason why he completely ignored us. I'm so disappointed in their behavior and CLEAR PREJUDICE. I called to speak with manager Luca, and I quote he said "Just write an email. There's nothing I can do for you here."
