Canadian Bacon Crostini (top), Carne Lasagna flight (bottom)

La Lanterna Di Vittorio honestly blew me away the other day. I discovered it via social media and was concerned it was overhyped, but that was not the case by any means! Food: husband and I split a Canadian bacon and Brie crostini and a carne lasagna flight. Both were delectable and larger portions than expected. We both agreed the bolognese lasagna was our favorite but we enjoyed all of them. Super flavorful! Drinks: Very reasonably priced glasses of wine between $9.5-$13 with a solid selection too. Service: Our server, Brenna, was so sweet and provided excellent attentive service. Water was always full, checked in on us but not too often. Vibe: Space was bigger than expected with an indoor back patio! The tables are a bit small and close together, but that is very understandable given the layout of the space. Would absolutely return/recommend!!

Of the three lasagna flight, the veggie was the best one. I opted for the black truffle add-on, which I would recommend. Of the four veggie flavors, try favorite was the plain cheese, then mushroom, then pesto, then spicy red sauce. The star of the meal was the tiramisu- it was light, melty. We did takeout so not sure about the atmosphere or service inside.

This place is excellent!!! The ambience is so unique and fun, the menu is expansive, and the food is delicious!! Hope to come back again to try more things. The vegetarian lasagna flight is a must order.

Lasagna here rocks. The lasagna flight easily was the best thing there and would highly recommend. Also got the pesto lasagna (not included as a flavor in the flight) and it was so delicious. We were going to a comedy show right after dinner & the service accommodated that and made sure we got our meal and check quickly. Vibes are dark and datey in there. Courtyard seating is really cool.

Large menu, delicious pizza, pasta, cheese, etc. Ordered a margarita which was average. Liked the tiramisu. Service was attentive, I think there was a bit of a language barrier. The lasagna is so rich and tasty. We were seated in the back patio which was really cute and a nice setting for a work dinner or really any occasion.

We heard about the lasagna flights and we knew we had to go. That's really the hook! Loves: + Lasagna flights ($26.50) - we split the carne (meat) and mare e monti (sea and mountains) ones, and all were good. My faves: cacio e pepe, gambero (shrimp), pancetta (bacon), and salsiccia (sausage) + Gelato is also good with three flavors for $10.50 + Drinks where wine is less than $12/glass or there are like 20 martini options + Cute ambiance. Love the heated garden. Two level restaurant so more spacious than you think + Excellent service!!! I wish I got his name but I loved our waiter. Just a fun, warm, and upbeat personality. I'm already dreaming about my next visit. Can't wait to come back soon, La Lanterna! :)

Cool restaurant in the heart of the East Village. It has a real old school feel when you enter. Dark and cramped but the seating is well spaced. Ordered the Lasagna Flights which were top notch. Also ordered the Pizza Salame which was very tasty. It didn't have a good fold and the crust was a little chewy but still a good flavor. Service was a little spotty. They were clearly overworked and you had to try and get their attention. Also not very engaging. I still recommend this place. You won't be disappointed.

So I went here randomly and honestly it felt like one of those little hidden spots you accidentally find and end up loving. The garden patio is such a vibe, super cozy and kind of makes you forget you are still in Manhattan. It feels more like you are sitting in someone's backyard in Italy than a busy city restaurant. The food is straight up comfort Italian. The pizza was thin, fresh, and not greasy at all, more authentic style with good ingredients instead of overloaded toppings. Those little baked lasagna flight dishes were actually really fun because you get to try different flavors and they all taste homemade in a good way. The broccoli and cheese lasagna was my favorite! Prices are pretty fair for New York and the portions fill you up without feeling heavy. Definitely a good date spot or somewhere to go when you want real Italian food and a cute atmosphere without the crazy scene. I would go back just for the patio alone. Seriously try this place!! You won't regret it!

I've come back 2 times since my first review. The staff are great. The place is beautiful and they do a great job decorating every February. I had the cheese pizza last time I was here and it was great. This time I had the potato pizza. It was good but needed something. The person I was with has had all the lasagnas over time and loved them all. The spicy one is spicy. It's a lot of food. The pizzas are big! We've loved their tiramisu. This time we got the flourless chocolate cake and chocolate mud cake. Both were very rich. He liked the flourless better and I liked the mud. But the tiramisu is better than both.

La Lanterna was super cute inside. However, the staircase to go downstairs is very narrow and steep; I had to walk sideways to avoid tripping. It was packed on a Friday night but the service was super quick! The lasagna bolognese was tasty but underwhelming. I would've preferred to have another type of pasta than to have lasagna noodles stacked on top of each other with super thin layers of sauce in between. The desserts were pretty disappointing. The cannoli had some sort of citrus in the cream, which had I known before, I would not have ordered it. The flavors were weird and not good. The tiramisu was decent flavor wise but the lady fingers were a soggy mess. This place is ok for a cheaper Italian dinner in NYC but don't expect anything life-changing.

We went here on a Wednesday night thinking it'd be quiet but nope, it was packed! Super lively but also pretty noisy, so just a heads-up if you're going for a date night like we were, it's hard to talk over the crowd. We started with the bruschetta (8/10) which was so fresh and then tried the famous lasagna flight (9/10). They have three options and you can't substitute: carne, vegetarian, and pesce y carne. We picked the vegetarian with the truffle funghi paste as an add on. The food came out fast, and the service was excellent. The lasagna was delicious but very cheesy. I just wanted a bit more pasta in each bite. We were way too full for dessert, but honestly, for how good the food and service were, the prices felt super reasonable. I'd totally go back just maybe not for a quiet night out.

This place was super cute! We're lucky to have sat in the back patio, which was a much more spacious and calmer section. The service was good and fast and they had fun cocktails and well-priced wine. The cheese board we had to start was good, only because of those amazing focaccia crisps and the mozzarella (so so delicious). The other cheeses we had - the fontina and Piave - really tasted like we were eating old cheese rinds. Really bizarre. The lasagna flight was SOO YUMMY though. I got the carne and would definitely recommend. What a fun dish. Would return to this cute patio space!

We went walking around Washington Square Park during the 2026 Winter Storm. Looking for a place for cafe mocha we were so happy La Lanterna was still open after all these years. We went there when we attended NYU in the late 1970s-1980s. I had a panini which was excellent and cafe mocha, which could have been hotter but still tasted good. So happy that a classic is still around. Great service and the ambience is an old style Italian cafe.

Hi! We accept all major credit cards as well as Apple Pay.

I see from another question that the patio is heated but is it covered in the winter? How well heated is it?

I was comfortable, my spouse needed a sweater. I think it was about mid 30's outside and while it was not warm it was ok, Some might choose to wear a sweater or light jacket. Dress in layers would be best.

Does one need to be vaccinated to dine here?

One needs to provide proof of vaccination (with photo ID) only for indoor dining. Guests dining on the front patio or in the outdoor rear garden do not have to provide proof of vaccination.

How should a couple dress for a date here?

However you want! I mean, I wouldn't wear sweats but I came after work so I was dressed business-casually and others were in jeans. It's laid back.

    Is this place BYOB?

No. They have drinks for purchase.

    Is it air conditioned?

    Yes, I believe it is.

Is the patio heated during the winter?
