My friend and I walked in without a reservation on a very busy Friday night. They were able to accommodate us either outside or at the bar and we chose the bar. The hostess (maybe the owner???) was an older Italian woman who was very friendly. She read us off the specials and they all sounded so delicious that we ordered all 4! My girlfriends and I were craving some pasta, and found Giano's via Google Search and Yelp's "nearby," and it was one of the greatest things that could happen to us that night. There was not a long wait, the music was good (and random for the aesthetic of the restaurant -- you would think they'd play romantic, classical music but here comes some Michael Jackson, but I'm not complaining), the food was delicious and the waiter/manager (?) was so whimsical! He was a character for sure, and it added to the experience. For appetizers, we got the calamari and meatballs -- both *chef's kiss*. I could have probably drowned in the tomato sauce with no complaints. The tagliatelle alla bolognese? The only thing I was upset about was the portion size because I could've had two plates of it. I got the mushroom tagliatelle and my friend got the ravioli. Decent sized portions. Only thing was we sat on the back patio which was nice but very warm (even for 8:30p at night). I recommended we go to Giano, as I knew he and his ex hadn't been there so it was a safe space and no PTSD would occur: "What if we go to Giano, Big Bro? We haven't been in forever!" ... For the first time in a week, I saw his ears perk up a bit and saw some semblance of his soul begin to re-enter his light brown eyes. "Uhmmmm, yeah. I could do that, Lil Cuzzo." After dragging his feet like a little kid mad at his mom for 4 blocks, we arrived at the promised land. We walked into the small but cozy Italian interior with no reservation. It was PACKED. "No reservation?" the host asked in a thick Northern Italian accent. My voice said "No res, no worries if we can't get in I know it's a big ask" but my eyes were screaming "Please god just have a seat for us. We can't take another L this week..." She heard my eyes loud and clear, and we were seated immediately. Upon sitting down, I immediately ordered 2 bottles of Chianti which I know gives alcoholic tendencies, but I had to wean this man off the magnum handle of grey goose in any way possible and I wasn't going to let him drink alone and feel like there is not another single soul in the universe that is there for him. Plus red wine is good for you hehehehe :). He ordered the lasagna, and I of course ordered the tagliatelle alla bolognese because I'm a BEAST! He obviously didn't touch the bread that was served to start the meal off, as this man is semteem* lbs down from a week ago, but I was cool with that because it was straight HEAT. Few things like some fresh bread and olive oil. When his lasagna came, he just sat there staring at it like a sick Golden Retriever looking at its bowl of Pedigree Dog Food. After I was half way through my delicious bolognese, I saw his right paw, fork in hand, put enough pressure to FINALLY cut through his lasagna. He slices a big piece and finally takes a bite. I detailed earlier about how I saw his soul re-enter his body a bit when I mentioned Giano, but this bite really brought my brotha BACK! The gemelli was great - the pesto had a distinct creamy and herb flavor, and the pasta had the perfect texture. Apps (burrata) were good, over arugula and tomato, tasted pretty fresh. Pasta dishes around the table were ok, not amazing. I think they fell a little short on the flavor to be honest. The white sauce was pretty heavy. The tiramisu was advertised as one of the best in North America - it was good, but I wouldn't necessarily call it the best I'd ever had. Some really good appetizers to start i would recommend the frittura di calamari - it tastes very fresh and well fried paired well with marinara sauce or tartar sauce. Also the toasted ravioli was a fried ravioli- the cheese was so delicious and the outer layer was nice and crunchy to bite into. For main course- i ordered the tagliatelle alla bolognese pasta. If you love beef this is your pasta. The beef is seasoned to perfection blended perfectly with the sauce and cheese. By far one of my favorite pasta dishes on the menu. What a gem! I love this restaurant! The space is small-ish but the tables are far apart enough so that you feel spacious and not on top of another group. The ambience is nice, with streaming lights by the window when it got dark. Although the menu isn't much like the ones we had in Northern Italy, the food is very much so. The rigatoni was perfectly al dente, with a sturdiness to each bite. The cream sauce was tasty, enveloped with truffle flavor. It wasn't overly creamy. I didn't get to try the chicken but my husband said the chicken was very tender and good. We ordered tiramisu for dessert. Do not miss this! It is delicious, not overly sweet with the right amount of cream. My only complains are 1) we ordered sparkling water but the staff didn't understand us and gave us tap water. There was some confusion but we just went with the tap water. 2) the complimentary house bread, though delicious with the olive oil provided, was not hot.
