I had already visited the restaurant prior and fell in love with it so I had to bring my daughter we got there early so we sat at the bar so I missed a Mother's Day gift that they were given out haha but it's OK. We started off with the Caesar salad, which was very good and we also had the chicken Parm in vodka sauce, which was delicious and we share a bottle of Rioja, which was pretty good and they gave us a dessert on the house which was tiramisu it was good. Grand Vin is a Hoboken staple. It's a great default Italian restaurant with good pasta and cocktails. The french onion soup is delish! I also got the rigatoni and it was pretty good. The wine is just a little too pricy which is why Im giving 4 stars.. a bottle of Robert Mondavi (which I buy on the reg at the liquor store for $25) was $128. I know restaurants have a markup on wine but just thought that was a bit nuts... Maybe consider removing the brand if you're going to markup commercial wine. Tables are a bit on top of each other so its a little loud, but otherwise it's a solid dinner spot for friends or date night. read more

Such a beautiful dimly lit restaurant with a calm yet social and lively atmosphere. It is a great place to dine at for date night or an outing with friends. I ordered the gnocchi and oh my goodness it was delicious and had the perfect pillowy texture. The meatballs were delicious as well but not as unique in flavor. Tasty nonetheless. The bartender was attentive as well and was quick to make drinks soon after placing an order in. the espresso martini was good, I'd order it here again. The total for two was around $135. Love this cozy Italian spot in the middle of Hoboken! I've been to Grand Vin three times, once for brunch and twice for dinner. I've sat at the bar twice and in the dining room once. Drove over an hour to come to this place for a birthday party. This place gets at most 3 stars, mainly for the food. The reason for choosing this place for this occasion was because of live music and an amazing, authentic vibe and home style dishes. The ambiance was very nice and authentic, with dimmed lights for a romantic relaxed feeling. This is where the good stuff ends. Parking was an issue (not the restaurants fault). The place is almost tiny with a weird tunnel feeling, felt more like a corner bar with a few tables on the sides. Awkward positioning of tables made it hard to have a conversation. As I looked around to see what couples or smaller groups were doing, not much better than us, romantic dates sat soo close to other table that I'm sure they felt like they were on double dates. Service was fast and prompt. But felt like they were overwhelmed a bit and did not know the menu very well (Gnocchi was offered as a homemade pasta dish). We did not try the whole menu, so I will list the good and the bad that we did try. The salads and apps were ok, no bold flavors or seasonings were used. All dishes including the entrees were going for the visual esthetics and not flavors. We were a large group, very hungry and disorganized, the waitstaff should have guided use through the process a little better. Definitely overpriced for the experience. I understand the area and the effort to make this place look fancy, $14 for drinks, no problem, $9 for a mock-tail (club soda, ice and some juice and syrup) don't get. Finally ordered the entrees, had a hard time deciding, ended up ordering the filet mignon and a few sides. Food did not come out quickly and I was soon notified that the cut of meat I ordered was no longer available, but I could substitute a different cut done in the same style. I agreed. 15 min later I was told that the polenta is also no longer available, I subbed it for mash potatoes. After reading reviews I see that this is a very common thing for this place. Every side dish was flavorless, and my steak was too charred on the outside and undercooked inside, making it difficult to even cut (asked for medium, but it was trying to run off of my plate). The outside of the steak was so charred that it even over powered the sauce that they put on top to mask the bitter taste. I don't like to complain, so as always I didn't say anything to the waiter, however it turned out that every other person in our group that ordered steak, got it wrong. The best thing on the menu turned out to be Short Ribs and gnocchi. We had a good time, but for this price point and the travel time that it required, I will be declining to go to this place again. Welp. Unfortunately for those folks reading this too late, I had the most absolutely absurdly delicious special main course scallops I've ever had the pleasure of putting my mouth to. Yeap. That. Dang. Good. I'm not sure how long the scallops special will be on the menu, but boy should you get an opportunity to roll them around your mouth, do it! I've been to this establishment a few times for wine and a light bite or two. It was my first experience sitting down dinning for a date night. Sat in the bar area for brunch a few weeks ago because the main dining room was booked for a private event. Despite having much of the staff focused on the event, the waiter serving us was very attentive. Tons of options on the menu here, however I strongly believe that the truffle fries plus truffle omelet is the perfect brunch combo! Food wise we I had the GV chicken and my partner had the Cod. I am a chicken parm lover but this dish was beyond amazing it was so juicy and tender and the flavor .... Wow! I would come back just for this dish. However, above all the service was amazing. Our server Amanda went above and beyond to make our night special. She was attentive but not suffocating. It wasn't too busy when we got there around 6pm, so we could have a nice conversation without too much background noise. This experience was just okay. The service is a bit slow especially as we came on a week night and the restaurant looked to be half full. The servers need to be flagged down vs being attentive. The meal starts off nicely with warm bread and some pesto. The pesto is a tiny bit salty but with a large piece of bread it was okay. We only ordered pasta entrees -- the pasta special -- Tagliatelle pasta with short rib ragu topped with goat cheese and shrimp risotto. The pasta special was... not that special. There is a lot of short rib but not much else. The dish lacks a good sauce base and salt. It came off too rich and oily. I was disappointed eating this and could not even eat half. My husband liked his shrimp risotto but it came with just 5 shrimps. A bit pricey for $29 to get so little shrimp and so much risotto. Ambiance here is very pretty but I'm not likely to come back due to the food quality and lack of attention from the servers. read more

Let me back up a little and tell you my story, It was a Sunday morning and reservations were made almost two weeks in advance so when you show up you'd expect little to no wait right? RIGHT?! 40 minutes later, we were seated. Though the pictures on Yelp may make this place look pretty large, it's not. The space itself is pretty tight (think small but long) - the decor looks beautiful in the photo's but certainly would look better in dim lighting then in a bright afternoon sun. The staff was beyond rude and honestly did the minimal to check in on us after we placed our orders. We had to actually get up and flag someone down for the check. I was lucky enough to happen by on a night that featured live music (go on Tuesday or Saturday if that floats your boat) and it really set the vibe. I went here on Saturday. Definitely make sure to make a reservation beforehand. The restaurant was beautifully-decorated and had a relaxing ambiance. Lots of dim lights. For appetizer, my friend and I got the fried calamari. It came with balsamic dressing on top. There was also spicy marinara sauce and a green sauce we thought might be some kind of pesto (but don't quote me on that). It was fabulous! Another friend had suggested I get the Chicken with Burrata. It was a chicken cutlet with vodka sauce and burrata on top. The side was a scoop of mashed potatoes. It was a delicious dish. The only issue I had was that while the chicken and sauce were warm, the cheese was cold. It was a little jarring. For entrees the pappardelle is a must order and gnocchi was decent. What was unfortunate was the service wasn't great. While I was waiting for my friend, a table was ready immediately ready. Our waitress was very kind and provided me with coffee while waiting on my friend. The service was impeccable and the outdoor/indoor dining decor was lovely. For my brunch, I chose the truffle omlette. Despite the cheddar cheese, it felt like it was missing flavor and it was a little on the drier side. Same thing with the home fries. Grand Vin is delicious! 10/10 if I could give ten stars on yelp! I've been here a few times while visiting my sister in Hoboken and I have never been disappointed. We went here impromptu yesterday evening, a group of eight of us. They were able to get us a great table (apart from other tables in the restaurant for COVID regulations) and the decor on the inside was so lovely. All of the employees at Grand Vin were so accommodating and friendly as well! Couldn't do enough for us! My boyfriend ordered the pear ravioli which was extremely rich and had great flavor. I ordered the capellini which was super tasty. My grandmother, mom and sister also all got the capellini and said it was delicious as well! It was in a beef bolognese sauce with peas, prosciutto and mushrooms. My brother in law had the pappardelle with scallops which was extremely fresh tasting scallops and a large portion for getting the small pasta dish. Grand Vin has been on my list to try for the longest time and when we moved into town a few months ago I knew it was a must but then everything shut down :( Fortunately, they are doing a wonderful job reopening with outdoor seating. When we heard restaurants were opening we were a bit skeptical but after waiting so long to give Grand Vin a try we decided to let them our first test. And let me tell you it was a great decision. They've built a little outdoor patio but we sat under the awning because the only reservation we could get was at 3:45pm and it was still very hot. Regardless it's super cute. When we went it was not crowded at all and the tables are significantly spread apart. The hostess told us they aren't taking walk ins so it's reservations only and they definitely didn't fill the tables up. We each had a specialty cocktail and they were both delicious (I had the Hazy Tea Yumm). Then we tried the stuffed mushrooms and they are probably the best I've ever had. A must! We shared two entrees - the gnocchi and the sea bass. The gnocchi was good and very creamy (a little bland for me but really can't complain). The sea bass was AMAZING! Literally melted off and melted in your mouth. They also brought out an adorable BIG bowl for the pup. I always appreciate when they treat the pup well. I feel awful that I don't remember the waiters name but he was great as well. Gave us time to decide, had his mask on, was attentive. They're doing great! I can't really comment on anything other than their takeout cocktails, which I felt was super misleading. The cocktail to go menu is extensive, and I love love loved that they had froze on their menu! However, both drinks in apparently a 16 oz cup size were $25 each. Each were supposedly 2.5 servings, but when we poured them out, the red sangria (with 3/4 of it filled with ice) didn't even cover 1 cup!! Also, as you can tell in the picture, it wasn't even sealed! It was just in a coffee cup with a lid! No tape or anything! The frose covered about 1.5 servings but not really bc in the picture, it's just 1 persons cup. I mean $25 for a cocktail to go is A LOT, especially since it's only 1.5 servings. That's like paying $18 for a single serving in the restaurant. I've gotten a $10 margarita in a bottle (no ice) that's about 16 oz from On The Border, and it filled up 2 full wine glasses for me, and they were strong! I personally will never order to go cocktails from here ever again, but hopefully, they don't rip you off when you dine in the restaurant. read more

We had a reservation for 4 people on a Sunday morning. We were quickly seated although we arrived about 10 minutes late. We scanned our QR codes to view the menu that's engraved on a wooden sign. It's a nice little touch that adds to the overall garden/farm aesthetic. (The bathrooms are well designed too!) My group ordered burgers and salads, and they seemed to enjoy their food. For me, I was in the mood for breakfast and opted for the croissant french toast, no powdered sugar, syrup on the side, with a side of scrambled egg whites. Everything was delicious! My toast had a nice crunchy exterior that was still light and fluffy on the inside. Speaking of light and fluffy, my eggs were cooked well too. I washed it all down with a sparkling water and walked away feeling satisfied. Everything was apprroatly priced so I can see myself returning. I'd be curious to try their dinner menu and have an alcoholic drink. Minus one star because the glasswear looks dirty. It's not dirty, just a result of washing dishes with the hard water we have in the area. It's gives the glasses a foggy finish that can be polished. It's not a huge deal but for a restaurant that hosts events and seems to hold itself to a higher standard, it would be nice to see the extra effort. Overall a solid experience.
