This was a place that my friend and I happened to randomly stumble upon and we're glad we did. The bar itself is MASSIVE. Lots of standing room with some seating. The Tippler is located at the Chelsea Market but is not accessible via the inside. To get here, go near Los Tacos No. 1 and find the "open" sign. Then go downstairs and you'll see it. On the inside is a cool vibe with lots of brick everywhere as it's located in a cellar. My first drink was the crown juul ($16) which was an old fashioned with a sweet vanilla flavor. My second drink was the golden hour ($16) and they were right in that they are crushable. I literally finished the drink in 5 minutes and then proceeded to order another. It was delicious and if you only get one drink here, make sure it's the golden hour. I enjoyed the dimly lit speakeasy vibe. It was chill which was a stark contrast with the busy NYC streets just outside. Two words to remember: golden hour. read more

I came here for drinks before a show at Little Island. It's technically located inside Chelsea Market, but they have a street entrance on 15th street for easy access. The bar is below ground and has brick walls and a dark, low key vibe. You kind of feel like you're in a cozy cave. The day we came, they had a special on shots with Jäegermeister and cranberry juice. These were super sweet and kind of tasted like cough syrup. They were quite strong though, which isn't always the case with mixed shots. I also tried the Green With Envy cocktail. It's described as a "healthy Moscow Mule" and this was fairly accurate. The green juice came through in full force and it was very vegetal. This might be a nice alternative to a Bloody Mary and could be a good brunch cocktail, but it wasn't my favorite for an evening drink. My sister got the It Was All a Dream cocktail. It was a little too sweet and the passionfruit in it didn't really come through. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Definitely a recommended spot for groups or date night. read more

Really cute bar in a cellar near Chelsea Market!! Max capacity inside is still currently limited, so unfortunately you most likely will have to wait in a line outside. Once inside, there is lots of standing room at the bar, and several tables scattered throughout (you can order from either). Did not try any of the food, menu was quite limited, but the cocktails were delicious and were reasonably priced (for NY). "The Vibe" was their take on a margarita (my favorite), which contained two types of tequila, falernum (syrup), agave and lime- was not too sweet or too bitter. The Call Me Captain was also delicious. Chill vibes - didn't feel clubby, so was a bit surprised to find a bouncer guarding the stairs to the basement where the bar is located. And yes, definitely not a friendly one. But our waitress was friendly and served our promptly. I appreciated that the layout was spacious, but the seating was rather limited. I came on a Saturday at 8PM. It wasn't too busy yet and friends were able to snag a table. The cocktails taste good and are decently strong. Decor is nice. I wish they had more food and snacks but they only offer pretzels and chips with salsa. The food menu led to another restaurant and I'm not sure how that delivery/pickup would work. The food by Chelsea market isn't open late. I tried "it was all a dream" on the regular cocktail menu and also the special cocktail of the day. Friends like this place. The Tippler feels like a speakeasy that college students opened. It has the brick-walled, subterranean isolation of a speakeasy, but with much cheaper drinks and younger clientele. The best of both worlds! We loved everything we tried, but the standouts were Green with Envy, It Was All a Dream, Hush Money, and The Crown Jewel. Service was fantastic, and the spacious seating (another upgrade from a typical speakeasy) made it easy to socially distance people-watch. The cocktails were yummy a bit pricey for $15 but they are unique. Also being that you're in that area of Manhattan prices are about right. The bar is was very busy but we did found a table for seven as soon as we walked in. The bar was playing okay music but we were having a great time laughing relaxing and chilling. The bar closes at 3am so if you want some late night drinks this is a pretty cool spot. For drinks I had some pickle shots which were pretty good, "my gf lives in queens was pretty good as well and spicy and westboy cowboy something was very yummy. If I'm in the area I would come back again I wouldn't recommend for food but yes for drinks. Also they have a photo booth next to the bathrooms. read more

There was a short wait to get in last Saturday but I'm very glad we decided to wait it out because what a great bar this is! The bar is quite roomy, good for a larger group if you have one. We were a group of 6 and were able to secure a table after hanging out for a bit. The drinks were good but my favorite part is definitely the atmosphere. It's sexy but approachable. This was a speakeasy tour with Brett, he guided us through the Chelsea Market. My first time here. I was pretty amazed how big this actually was. A few turns here and there with a couple of stairs, hallways and voilà. We are in an unground cellar space. The walls and artifacts are historic. It's pretty roomy and I love the rustic decor. ..Lights dimmed, plenty of seats. We made it to the bar looked over their classic cocktails list. Ordered Monkey business and Pineapple Express. I watched as she made them, loved the basket with oranges, lemon, limes, and a peeler for rimming drinks and cutting slices. Bar was fully stocked with only the finest of it all. The music played at a distance to soothe and relax from the business above. I loved it. Great experience!! Love finding treasures and this was truly one of them. read more

Hidden deep under Chelsea Market with only an "Open" sign out front to identify it, you really have to know where your going, or you have to be dumb adventurous; I am very much the latter. My friends and I were looking for a place to start our night. We were just walking around the Greenwich Village and saw a bright "open" sign out front of the building. I figured it was maybe a bar. We walked up and in the building to where there was a bouncer. He I.D us and told us to have fun. We still had no idea what we were getting into. We walked down the old rickety stairs and past some old television sets. At some point we started questioning, are we even going the right way. We kept going down the stairs and finally found it. It was rustic and lavishly decorated with hip stuff such as old suitcases and books. The lights were very dim, setting a listing 20's era tone. The bartenders all dressed the part. The drinks were tasty, however, there is a huge mark up for this hidden gem of a place. 3 double shot whiskeys and a beer were $80. The service was okay. The whole place smelled like a public bathroom... Cocktails were $15 which was reasonable compared to other bars in the area. They also have a limited food menu. We tried the GREEN WITH ENVY and THANK U, NEXT cocktail. Both really bad and poorly crafted. My banana daiquiri was extremely sour and the moscow mule had too much ginger. Service was completely lacking. I wouldn't recommend this bar for cocktails. Maybe for a quick beer just to hang out. But honestly I have no interest in returning. read more

Great cocktail place for a date or quick drink before dinner. We came here a few years ago and then recently went back to get some cocktails before a friends birthday dinner nearby. The bartenders here know what they're doing and make fantastic drinks. You can order one of their signature cocktails or ask the bartender to make something for you. Seating can be tough for large groups -- probably best to come here in a smaller group or as a couple. I appreciated that the waitress took that drink off of our tab, but it doesn't explain why we were there for an hour and only was voluntarily visited twice (once to take our order and once to drop them off) by the waitress! I ordered the grilled cheese and yikes! There was barely any cheese! I can't believe how much I paid for slightly cheesy bread. We ordered the Cheddar Scallion dip, and it was smaller than bite-sized! I was flummoxed by how tiny that dish was. This place HAS potential, and there's a part of me that wonders if maybe I don't "get it," because this place does have a 4-4.5 Yelp rating... However everything isn't meant to appeal to everyone. A chill no frills bar in the Meatpacking. A little hard to find but once you locate the building number and go down the set of stairs you're in for a treat. The first thing I noticed was how spacious it was, the cool dimmed lighting, and the fact that there was a lot of seating. The space was nicely decorated too, very rustic and a lot of Christmas spirit. The bar itself was big but we initially noted there was only one bartender working. Took us a while to put in an order and once we finished we were told the credit card machine wasn't working hence the decreased star. I felt bad for the bartender because he looked a little stressed. Putting that aside, our drinks were great. I had a delicious moscow mule as did some of my other coworkers and we all loved them. My boss had this spiked hot cider which she was obsessing over so it must have been really good too. I'd def. come back again next time I'm in the area. I feel like I owe this place a review. Been here a few times and each time had a different experience. Neve great, but never awful. The basement location and bathrooms remind me of being in middle school, for some reason. The drinks are good but expensive. I like the cucumber drinks bc I like cucumber everything. I don't have any cell service here which I'm counting as a positive. But if you want to call an Uber or meet up with friends, you have to keep running upstairs which is annoying. It's a quiet and dark bar in the basement by Chelsea Market - the crowd was super cool, just a bunch of groups looking to sit at tables/by the bar and talk - perfect for a night when you just want to grab drinks with friends and chat, rather than have a crazy night filled with loud music and dancing. Don't get me wrong, both are fun - but if you're looking for a bar that's open late and doesn't get too rowdy, this is the place to go! It's a big brick room you go down some steps to get to. It's trying for the Speakeasy vibe (like Raines Law Room), but not trying too hard or hard enough. There is a token effort at ambiance, but I didn't feel it. Drinks are NYC expensive, which is expected, but not a big selection of specialty drinks on the menu (maybe 8 or 10). It's like a few of people got together and in a moment of inspiration decided to create a cool bar, in a secret location, with a 1920s speakeasy theme, with handcrafted cocktails...and then all smoked a doober, ran out of energy and created the Tippler and ordered a pizza. read more
