The staff and regulars are friendly, the inside bar area is just as cozy cute as the outdoor area complete with a porch swing. Lucky is a new bar in the East Village owned by a bartender who has been at it for years and it shows! I was part of an event that was being held here and definitely enjoyed the vibe that was going on. Abby the owner/bartender is engaging and friendly and knows how to pour a good drink. Cara too is just as awesome. The bar area and outdoor patio was clean as well as the bathroom which seems to be something people mention when reviewing this place. The bar itself was decorated nicely and kept dimly lit. One major plus here is their awesome jukebox. The jukebox here has mixes from various famous NYC bars Abby has tended and has a little bit of everything ranging from punk to alternative and everything in between. One thing that will bring me back for sure is the non pretentious attitude here. Nothings worse than a bar that treats you as if you don't belong there. Not here. Came here during Santacon, since we were pretty much over the long lines and abundance of drunk Santa's and I have to say that it was the best choice we made all day. A quaint lil gem in the East Village where a lot of the locals go. A little dark, a little grimy but all the New York feels, nothing frou-frou about it. I love this place because it isn't super packed and the prices are super affordable compared to the surrounding bars around the area. The bartender Abby is on point, and let's you know exactly how it is which I had really appreciated. She always made sure we always had a drink in our hands. I really really really really miss drinking in Alphabet City. And so the other night I said to hell with it, masked up and went out. You guys, it was so strange, and I felt weird being around so many people, drinking outside (legally), but I have to say. The heart of the city is still beating strong down here. Anywho, after a pitcher + the obligatory cold quesadilla at east village social, and a few doubles + the (no joke) 1/2 bologna sandwich at 7B, we were about ready to check out. That's when I remembered about Lucky. I have to say, Lucky is not the first bar that I think of in ABC, but it always seems to come to mind when I hit ave B and the park. Its a solid, no-frills kind of place that ALWAYS gets the job done, and I have found it to be great as a pregame spot or as an end of the nightspot*. The staff is chill and the drinks are always on point. The new restrictions mean drinking in the front, but I have to say I don't mind that one bit, especially on Ave B. There is always something going on over in this sorta hard to get to area, and I have always appreciated it over here. Anywho, if you're looking for a spot for a solid drink at a solid price and happen to be in Alphabet City, you'd be hard-pressed to find a spot that will do you better than Lucky will. ______ *Careful though, the drinks are strong and cheap, I have 100% ended up with a hangover from night-capping here. I've been Lucy's few times with some friends. It is always good to be there and always a good times. The bar owed by such a sweet lady whose name is Abby. They have really nice selection of beers and cocktails. I only had beers. Lucky the ambiance of the place is so good always feels like home because of the owner is so nice. The bar has a backyard as well. We had a October fest with beer club friends and if the weather is nice, their backyard is really great. Would love to not leave any star because the lady working 10/29 was so rude to me and my friends. We were trying to decide what drinks to get and she said "are you going to order or just be on your phones?" We we're on our phones because it took her so long to get to us. And then she walked away without even asking us. Then when she finally came back after serving the rest of the bar, we asked for the pumpkin shots and she said "we're out" and walked away, not even taking the rest of our order! She was rude to everyone but at least gave others drinks where she wouldn't even work with us. I asked some people on our way out and they said she's not always the bartender which is good. While this is a lovely bar with wonderful thoughtful bartenders, one of whom I consider a dear friend, upon information, the owner is completely opposed to having air-conditioning at the bar during the summer. I don't understand the point of subjecting patrons to an uncomfortable environment and then expecting sales to happen as if by miracle. Yes one SHOULD support their local business but also people should support places that care for THEM. Came here for a quick drink while waiting for someone. Happy hour runs till 8pm which is great as most places close it off an hour or two earlier. Tuesday evening and only a small scattering of people at the bar, however there was also plenty of table room in the back. Quickly ordered a pint on draft for $3. Great value! On top of that, they were running a special for a free shot to those who voted. Good on the bartender/owner who got me one without me even knowing this promotion existed. Honestly my Michelada was great but what was not great was the bartender (elderly white woman) complaining about people using the summer Tippler (such as myself). She complained that people did not tip, though we tipped and another woman at the same time as us tipped, but she proceeded to trash talk her because she left and did not finish her drink (which she paid for via Tippler AND tipped on). I also don't really like the fact that this is a Mexican place and there were no workers of color to be found. Update: She yelled at me and made me leave the bar! At my arrival,I've asked the bartender (an elderly white woman)politely about an event I was invited to... her response was quite rude ...saying that this is it ...I thought,well maybe she is having a bad day/night. Lucky! Not only the name of this place! But how I felt finding it! A week before my annual holiday party, my original bar cancelled on me due to a scheduling conflict. Frantically I begin searching the EV for another place to host my group of thirty. I stumbled upon Lucky and contacted the owner, Abby via Yelp. Without hesitation she took us in, like baby Jesus on a cold night. The reviews here are clearly written by transplant brats because I had nothing but an amazing time with Abby. She was helpful, funny, kind, and a boss ass bitch. Lucky is small but roomy and cozy. It's a neighbourhood bar. You're in Alphabet City okay, you're not at 13 Step. The bartenders were attentive, polite, funny af and had great pours. Despite my Christmas party being an utter failure, everybody was nice as hell and still served my measly party. I was totally grateful. 10/10 rating from me. If you're expecting shitty waiter service and overpriced cocktails go to PDT. If you're expecting great service, a warm atmosphere and RAGING BITCH ON DRAFT! This is the place to be. They also have an amazing patio. Thanks for everything guys! read more

They advertise glitter shots at this bar, but don't bother. The bartender hates making them and will make that known to you. He was an absolute jerk to us, and promptly refused to serve our group after serving us 1 round of shots (we were not disorderly or disrespectful in case you were wondering - he was just lazy). Probably lost the bar a few hundred dollars of our business. We don't plan on returning, the service was terrible. EDIT: dear abby, it's impossible for that bartender to have made us over 20 shots because there were only 10 of us and he cut us off after the first round. I first came to Lucky on New Year's Eve 2017. I then proceeded to have the worst hangover of my life, but I credit Lucky to a great night. Let's breakdown how it began. New Year's Eve rolls around and it's the coldest it's been in years. I'm talking negatives, guys. So clearly my girlfriend and I are not going strolling through town and bar hopping. We are finding one spot and one spot only. This will be where we welcome the New Year. So I open up and Yelp and look for bars around the East Village, hoping to find a newish place that won't be too crowded. Lucky had a sign on their page that said Muggles weren't allowed so obviously they won me over. We roll in and NYC is oddly quiet this night. Most people are probably celebrating at home because of how bitter it was. The bar has a few people in it and we find seats at the bar and begin to drink the night away. I'm pumping dollar after dollar into the jukebox because this wonderful machine has salvaged the greatest hits from bars long since gone from the neighborhood. I'm timing it so that Pump It Up by Costello rolls on at midnight exactly and folks, it sure as hell did. Now I'm a big guy who can handle his liquor, so you might wonder why I proceeded to have one of the worst hangovers of my life. Well, Abby is pouring champagne out for everyone as you do on NYE and she's out of flutes. I, however, had just finished my beer and say she can pour me some in there. She did. She poured the pint glass full of champagne and I drank it up. My girlfriend is a little bit of a lightweight and she's also very drunk at this point. We catch an uber home and wake up in the morning having forgotten to drink any water whatsoever. A sliver of sunlight wakes us up like it's a nuclear bomb detonating over the east river. We can't cook in this state so we find a Mexican brunch spot the next day and began our foodblog which led us on a ton of great adventures. Lucky is one of the best bars this side of St. Marks in Alphabet city. Hands down. I've never had a bad experience and everybody is freaking amazing. We've since gone back a dozen or so times from that one night, and am very happy to have found Lucky. You should be lucky you found Lucky, too. read more

Update in response to Abby L-- you're right. We maybe should have called ahead. That has absolutely nothing to do with the lack of professionalism on the part of the bartender. A big group shouldn't mean he gets to be nasty. If you actually read the whole review instead of just picking which bits best suit your sarcastic narrative, you'd see there was no issue with speed of service. The issue was with his complete disinterest in going to the basement to get more of an ingredient (thus my sarcastic comment which appears to have sailed right over you) and his garbage attitude. No one yelled at him or demanded he hurry up -- they just asked for drinks he didn't feel like making, and he was very liberal with his opinions on the matter. If being rude to customers and responding to every negative review on Yelp with defensive sarcasm is your schtick, hey go for it. It works for some places. Just don't be shocked when you inevitably close down because people don't feel like being yelled at or ignored by your staff on a night out. ----------------------------------------------- Interesting bar. My friend wanted to come here as part of her birthday party celebration for the glitter shots. The birthday girl ordered a round of glitter shots and the clearly-happy-with-his-life bartender quite literally yelled in her face that he'd have to go downstairs to get one of the ingredients, and why didn't she order a REAL drink, like tequila? (The irony of that was not lost on me, same as his checker patterned shirt.) Honestly? I think it was his misguided attempt at a little humor, but the delivery was poor and it went over like a fart in church. Instead of realizing his joke didn't quite hit the mark, he doubled down on his salty attitude and started ignoring people and refusing to make drinks after he had to go all the way to the basement for the rumchata. The birthday girl is a sweetheart and apologized for upsetting him but nah fam, this guy was not here to make her birthday a nice one. Despite having no energy to go to the basement for rumchata, he had lots of energy to run out to the backyard area and snipe to everyone who would listen that one of the guys in the party didn't tip him. He must've eaten a Snickers in between or something. All the one star reviews on this place about shit service are sadly accurate.
