The Lavaux is a Swiss restaurant that focuses on fondue and raclette and it does it well. Certainly what you need on a cold winter night. The service is great and the place has a good vibe. The Swiss wines are all very good as well.
We decided to stop by the Lavaux on Saturday night this past weekend. We had just seen a play that made me need a glass or two of wine, and the Lavaux was near our hotel. It was the perfect spot. It's a Swiss wine and fondue bar. Between that and the cozy, comfortable, warm ambiance, it's just where you want to be on a cold winter night. We sat at the bar, just across from the gondola (which you can reserve on Resy if cute gondolas are your thing). Sadly, we too full from our dinner to eat any fondue on this visit, but even if you don't eat fondue, you can smell it. The Lavaux smells like heaven - like pots and pots of fondue everywhere. They have an interesting and varied selection of Swiss wines; we tried a couple of Gamays, which were lovely - exactly what I wanted. Great wine, great service, and great ambiance. I'm going back for fondue.
I attended a private event here for a bridal shower and it was simply perfect! From the bartenders to the servers to the flow of food courses, it was unique and delicious! The feel of this Swiss-themed bar/restaurant was charming ... I will be going back just to sit in the gondola!!!
I've come a couple times with small groups of friends, and The Lavaux has always been a hit. The truffle cheese fondu is excellent, borderline addictive, and they have a good wine selection. The chocolate fondu is also excellent. Service is attentive and friendly and the space is cozy.

Hudson Street right next to Meyers of Keswick so you can pick up your special Ribena or Twiglets at the same stop. Take your friends for authentic fondue. It's a Winter Holiday in West Village.
We came here because I saw a Reddit post talking about interesting experiences in Manhattan, and they mentioned the secret message party. So we got a reservation and tried it out! I have to say, I found the secret message party to be disappointing, but the food, ambiance and service were terrific! We got a classic cheese fondue, the server recommended the cheese blend. We each got wine, our server was so great. She let us try a couple different wines before we settled on what we each wanted. The fondue is absolutely delicious, to balance out the richness of the fondue. We also got a kale salad that was also very tasty. We didn't even have room for dessert, unfortunately. I really enjoyed the food, wine, and service. The secret message party was disappointing, because all other tables answered our questions, it just wasn't the level of interesting exchange that we were seeking. And most people in the restaurant didn't really seem into passing the messages. So I would recommend coming here for the food, but don't have high expectations with regard to the secret messages.
The place itself is really cute, especially for a date night. They also have a solid happy hour that includes food as well. The reason why I gave this place one star is because of the staff, namely a bartender named Julie. Where do I begin? First and foremost, Julie is completely lost. She didn't know how to make a single drink from the happy hour menu, claiming that she is new and has no idea. Second, she was asking my friend, and I if we were on a date and insisted on showing us pictures of a guy, she was going to meet later in the day. Third, whatever we did manage to order was delayed as she forgot to give it to us. All in all, what could have been a nice night out was offset by this particular employee.
Such an amazing datę place for two. We ordered truffle cheese fondue. Jared was our most wonderful server and this evening was magical. Thank you Lavaux! I'm giving you 5 stars for the dining experience
The Lavaux is a cozy Swiss wine bar in the West Village. This feels like such a NYC hidden gem. - The Mixed Board (8.5/10): It's so much fun to get a little board with meats and cheeses. It was so fun to build different flavor combinations with the different cheeses/meats. Also it comes with some mini cornichons, flaky sea salt, jams, and other flavor enhancers. - Chalet's Pasta (8.6/10): This pasta was soo good! The fusilli pasta picked up the flavorful and creamy sauce so well. Honestly, I thought the dish would be bland but it really surprised me with the amount of flavor it had. Def recommend this dish - Jolicoeur Blanc Chassela: Obviously we had to order Swiss wines at a wine bar! The Lavaux imports directly from Swiss winemakers which is so cool. Chasselas are an indigenous Swiss white grape variety. I really enjoyed the one that I got and would recommend Overall, this is the perfect spot for a cute date night or girl's night. I definitely want to come back and try the other dishes (like the fondue)!
If you are looking for an outside of the box dinner try Lavaux. I was able to book the gondola table and it was surprisingly roomy. My friend and I enjoyed the Swiss wines and the cheese fondue. We were too full to try the chocolate fondue...next time.
Cute spot for a late night gathering. Lots of fondue to taste. Quaint wooden chairs and a ski chalet chair for ambience. If you're into cheese and near the area stop on in.

There were plenty of sides to dip in the fondue, and the portions were generous. For dessert, we had the chocolate fondue, which was one of the best I've ever tasted. It came with bananas, strawberries, and waffle bites. Although the prices were a bit high, the great food and wine made it all worthwhile.

First, I want to say I will return to try their Sunday brunch or in cooler weather for their raclette and fondue. I was walking around Greenwich Village and was intrigued by the Swiss flag, as I previously spent a summer in Switzerland and have visited that beautiful country a number of times. But the restaurant and bar were completely empty. Others nearby were buzzing. Their sidewalk patio had folks at two tables. And me inside. I ordered a nice Swiss wine and had a nice conversation with the woman bartender. They have a busy brunch on Sundays and they are doing World Cup watch parties for Switzerland, France, and Belgium teams. The owner is Swiss and has done a great job bringing some nice Swiss vineyard wines here. The restaurant and bar are modern, beautiful.and cozy. I will try again! read more

Pricey $$ but loved the 3 cheese fondue!! Surprisngly so good and perfect for sharing! Wouldn't get the chocolate fondue here, it's not as worth it. Every Tuesday they host a secret message party! I loved the concept and it was so fun!! read more

Fantastic cheese fondue, with the expected Swiss accoutrements of crusty bread, finger potatoes, and pickles. (So many places don't get the pickle thing.) We got the Traditional with garlic. Though there was very little garlic. Next time I'll ask for more. We also got one serving of the chocolate fondue, which was plenty for the two of us. Excellent dark chocolate, though the waffle bits were a tad dry. The service was good. We did have to summon her a few times, but no biggie as she was generally a few feet away. We sat in the gondola, which is cute, but a bit cramped. Definitely going back there the next time we're in NYC. read more

Went here for a Christmas, family style dinner for a large group of 10, and it was pretty fun. If you are in need for a shareable experience for a large group this is good. The fondue was good, would've loved to have more options for sides like maybe protein of some sort. The tomato and truffle are winners by far. Our server was amazing, she was really nice and helped us decide on amounts which was perfect. Only downside is, apparently there was a time limit and the manager ended up rushing her to get us out of there, which cut our experience short and we ended up missing out on trying the Chocolate fondue. Not a big fan of the house wine selection, felt very sweet and watered down. read more

Stopped by here to get some meats and cheese during happy hour and I really enjoyed it. The selection of the board was very nice. All the meats and cheeses were very interesting and delicious. The server at the time was incredibly nice and very educated on seemingly everything on and beyond the menu. The seating both outside and inside was incredibly cute and cozy. Incredible decor like the Swiss flags stringed above us and the table that is inside a gondola. And I know this will count a lot for some, but the bathrooms were very very nice. It's a bit on the pricy side but the happy hour deal is quite good if you just want a meat and/or cheese board. Despite the cost, I'd still consider coming back for the fondue because they claimed to have the most authentic and best in the city and I honestly believe them! read more

Such a cute intimate wine bar. My fiance and I went for a little date night pre dinner and shared the mixed charcuterie board. Such tasty cheese and meat. Our favorite was the salami and Genova cheese. read more

A quiet and intimate wine bar conveniently located in the heart of West Village, perfect for pre-dinner drinks. I ordered a glass of Les Parchets d'Emile ($16) which is a native Swiss white wine. I am not a huge fan of acidic or bitter wine, so anything light and/or sweet is what I'll usually go with. This wine has a very smooth and almost plain taste/texture but in a good way, perfect lightness for afternoon drinking. It also has a slight fruity hint. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about their wine selections and offered to pour us sample wines to help us decide. We went in a Sunday afternoon. It was quite empty inside which was great for chill/conversation time with friends. read more
Made a reservation here for my friend's birthday, and also a mini-reunion of sorts, as our micro-group hadn't been together in the same spot in several years. What a great spot! TL;DR version: 5/5 with great service, food, and wine. I highly recommend this restaurant. Service: 5/5. Server was amazing. He made some great recommendations and they were all spot-on. Would trust him with MY LIFE. Wine: 5/5. Started with a bottle of the Villette "Robin Des Vignes". It paired very well with the fondue. Ended up getting a second bottle. Food: 5/5. Started with the "La Salade Fribourgeoise" which had a fantastic house dressing and the Beef Tartare, which was amazing; its preparation was magnificent. Went with a Charcuterie Board (five meats of your choosing), The Traditional (Moitié-Moitié) Fondue--with Gruyère and Vacherin, and the Truffle Fondue, all per our server's recommendation. Ambiance: 5/5. Pretty quiet on a Wednesday evening with a 6pm reservation. We were there for almost 3 hours and we could definitely hear ourselves without having to shout. Our party of five may have actually been making the most noise. read more

Should you have a craving for fondue in NYC, one's options are surprisingly limited. Thankfully The Lavaux offers a perfectly executed option in a surprisingly (perhaps shockingly) uncrowned space in the West Village. On a most recent visit we shared the porcini-infused fondue, which added a nice dimension to the dish without being overly shroomy. My favorite vessel for dipping was actually the cornichons provided on the side, as they offered a nice contrast from their acidity. The dessert fondue was equally enjoyed, although I found the bananans and strawberries a much better pairing for the decadent chocolate than the already-very sweet chunks of Belgian waffle. read more

Simply mouth watering. We could not stop looking at each other with each bite and quietly moaning from delight. If you're all about atmosphere, experience and loads of cheese and chocolate. Who isn't right? This is THE PLACE. I could easily eat here once a week if it didn't make such a dent on my weekly budget. It is worth every penny. We're still dreaming of the next time we will visit which will be very soon. Spring is around the corner and we're all thinking of trimming our waist but this is a luxury you can't miss. Where else can you get delicious fondue. We've had fondue in Aspen, Miami, and other great places but the charcuterie that is offered makes such a big difference and the cheesiness and flavor of the fondue was perfect. My daughter would like the truffle cheese next time and I'm all for it. Bread. Oh bread. If you like bread, this might be up there as one if the top 10 breads. Its incredibly fluffy but yet miraculously moist. At first I thought it was a sourdough bread fresh out of the oven. Again worth the waist splurge. You just got to have it. There's no debate about this. Chocolate fondue. Perfect. Not too sweet. Not to dark. Perfect ending to an incredible meal and just enough chocolate to finish the items they serve along with it. Wine. I never knew Swiss wine could be so delicious. Smooth and well rounded. Now to find bottles of Swiss wine sold in NYC. I think the wonderful staff said it was rare. It's hard for me to support a place that serves cheese fondue with a terrible bread basket. Fondue is only as good as the items you put into and the fondue itself. It seemed like Lavaux had one or the other but not both. My partner and I reserved a table for two to celebrate a special occasion. Upon arrival, while we were seated in a timely fashion, we were seated at a table that was unstable and wobbly. It also seemed as if the table we were seated at was not originally meant to seat us... as if our table wasn't ready and we were given a different table. More on that later. My partner and I ordered the three cheese fondue, a charcuterie board of duck and boar saucisson, duck prosciutto, and tasso, and a bottle of Les Parchets D'Emile (fruity balanced white wine). For dessert, we ordered the dark chocolate fondue for two. The cheese fondue arrived with a bread basket and a plate of pickles and potatoes on top of the meats we ordered. Usually, I'm not so picky with complimentary food since it's complimentary. But it must be a sin to serve a basket of soggy, strangely yeasty, bread lookalikes with cheese fondue. Lavaux needs to either outsource their bread or not serve it at all. At the very least, as you would expect from a fondue place, the cheese is decent and the meats are really enjoyable by themselves and combined with the cheese (my personal favorite was the duck prosciutto). I loved that the charcuterie included fig jam to counteract the salt and fat of the meats and cheese. The dark chocolate fondue, on the other hand, is a joke. I've had every percentage of dark chocolate and no one will convince me that what I was served was dark chocolate fondue. And with this "dark chocolate fondue" included sugary waffles, strawberries, and banana. I could suffer myself through some strawberries and bananas, but the sugary waffles with the milk chocolate was too sweet. We left half of the fondue unfinished and most of the waffles. Our waiter, rushing to take our finished food and unfinished wine, brought us our bill and informed us that our table was to be prepared for another party. This wouldn't have bothered me... if there wasn't a party of two who was clearly there before us, was told the same thing. My partner and I wanted to sit for a bit and finish our wine but instead were rushed out because we finished our food early. Back to my point earlier where my partner and I noticed that something was off about our seating arrangement. It looked like an example of bad table management hidden behind "friendly service". If I wanted fondue and wine, I could easily go to an artisanal cheese shop, butcher shop, and liquor store and whip it up at home. But I came to Lavaux expecting an experience. I guess I got an experience... a disappointing one. read more
