Went to Brass Monkey on a weeknight for a happy hour event, and it was a great choice for a group. For our event, the space was completely open, though there are tables and chairs available if preferred. I just happened to hang out at this place since it was probably the most affordable bar in the area. I needed a place to hangout while waiting for my wife and her friends have their ladies' night out (designated driver and all). I had four beers from the tap (my limit for the night): They were the Brass Monkey IPA (a good IPA, I liked it even though I am not a fan of IPAs), the Hofbrau, the Allagash White and the Victory Pilsner. The Hofbrau and the Pilsner were my favorites. I came there sometime past 8pm was just planning to just chill and chat with the barkeeps. They were very friendly. As earlier mentioned, I thought the bar was just a nice neighborhood joint. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Come 11pm, that changed really quickly. **Bartender Warning: Check ALL charges on your bill** Came to watch a Knicks playoff game with some friends and sat at the bar in the back room. The bar was busy as expected but nothing too crazy- we were served fine on my tab until a new bartender showed up. First drink order was simple enough, 2 vodka sodas. We got vodka and sprite instead, had to wait a while to get his attention and replace them while he's on the other end of the bar taking care of other people. Not a big deal, it happens. Next drink order- wrong again, gives us a vodka sprite a second time. Third drink order and he misses a beer order for my friend, running off before we can flag him down again. Not the worst thing, but I also notice he only asked for the name on my card once at the beginning. When the bill comes, a whole bunch of food orders show up on the bill- chicken fingers, fries, etc. I crossed them out and hand it back saying I never ordered them and he immediately gets in my face yelling at me not to 'gaslight' him. Says he served food right next to me to a guy (I have no idea who it was) and therefore it's my friend and goes on my card?? Dude, that's not how it works. I tell him to check the cameras for proof but he's clapping and yelling in my face not listening. I end up having to make a big deal and plead my case with the manager (who was cool and professional) before they finally take the charges off. Great local dive bar in the Chelsea area conveniently located by the Little Islands and the High Line which I did not know. It's pretty cool. Came last night for a date and to thankfully escape the humid air of summer and it did not disappoint. The AC was bustling. It felt nice. Me and my party sat in the back end of the space, there's a second floor landing that led to a second floor bar which sadly was close. During the day time, we were able to go all the way up to the roof where it's an open air place. The other floor has a pretty spacious dance floor for all of your awkward drunk dancing. We came here after going to Chelsea piers (about a 15 minute walk). They open around 4pm on Sunday and we were seated at the rooftop terrace. The rooftop terrace had plenty of sunlight and a decent amount of tables. The rooftop terrace faces little Island. I love the chicken fingers here, they come with fries as well (around $13). I also got a brass monkey light ($8)- it was a great light beer. The nachos were average. I would recommend the chicken finger w fries. It comes with ranch and bbq sauce to dip in. I honestly enjoyed my time at Brass Monkey. They have a nice rooftop. There are several floors. The drinks are decently priced. My biggest qualm is that they changed the amount I tipped. So when I checked my credit card statement, it wasn't the amount I had on my duplicate receipt. I contacted the business about this mistake. I wanted to alert them of this potential bad faith business practice so it wouldn't happen to anyone else. However, they made a big deal about how the amount was very small and essentially tried to make me feel bad for even asking them to fix it in the first place. Love that it's in the West Village/Chelsea area so it's very close to the Highline a little island for you to get some walking done before or after your time here everything was pretty basic though - your standards need to be adjusted when you're going to a rooftop place. The food is not usually going to blow you away, but you will have a great time catching up with friends, and enjoying basking in the sunlight. This place has 4 floors, there is a secret bar at the base of the stairs. I would recommend getting your drinks here because it's not crowded. Each floor has different music and had a bar. As you continue to go up it gets more and more hot especially because of the crowd of people. If you keep going though you will reach a beautiful rooftop with many tables, fresh air and beautiful string lights. The rooftop is where I spent most of my time. There's three floors which makes the bar seem cool but the second floor gets so crowded you can't even move. We easily could've just moved the party downstairs (indoors) but where's the fun in that during the summer? Loved the 80's themed cocktails, especially since the birthday girl just so happens to be a 80's fanatic. I haven't been here in many years and was surprised to see how laid back and chill it was (probably because close to closing time). The bartender was super cool and the fellow patrons was all jovial and talkative. My group and the other group that was there merged for a bit and created a big circle consisting of of silly drinking games and jokes. My kind of fun!
