I came here for happy hour with friends when they opened at 5 pm. The upstairs was closed for a private event (a group was doing a murder mystery activity). The bar is long/vertical and dark. There are some high top tables in the back and then that leads to the outdoor patio. The outdoor patio looks much bigger in person but in reality it's kinda small. We're lucky we got there early enough to get seats because would walk in and see how crowded the patio was as would leave. You order at the bar and then seat yourself. I got a spritz and my friends got spicy margaritas. During Happy Hour, cocktails are $2 off and the spicy margs are $8. My friend said she wishes they played music outside because that would have added to the vibe. They also have no food here so we were starving and got food nearby after.

This bar has two floors. The downstairs bar has low ceilings and is quite dark and cramped. There are a few tables in the back but it gets crowded quickly. Upstairs, they have a long couch with several tables and chairs. They also have an outdoor patio but it was closed for the winter. For happy hour, they have margaritas for $8 and $2 off of regular cocktails. The spicy margarita had fresh jalapeño and a salt rim. It was refreshing but not very spicy. I also tried the Sgt Pepper. It had a smoky, bold mezcal flavor but the other ingredients were very subtle. My sister got the Bramble and enjoyed the uniqueness of the jam, which wasn't overly sweet. We initially sat upstairs. It was a bit drafty by the patio door. It was reserved for a private party later in the evening so we had to relocate after about an hour. The downstairs bar was very noisy by that point so we didn't stay too much longer.

Hidden Lane is a gem. I can't believe i walked past here all this time. Located in what i like to call a tree house (it just gives me that energy lol) , it does appear to be hidden. When you walk in there are two floors that both lead into a nice backyard! They allow outside food and those happy hour drinks are . My first time at hidden, I drank several spicy margaritas that didn't have that cheap taste feeling and hence why i kept going back for more. If you are ever in union square and want to hang on one of the side streets then I recommend this spot!

Outdoor patio. Perfect to meet friends for a drink and bites in the busy union square area.

Great martini choices. They have a selection of espresso martinis. The back open space is really inviting and totally a plus.

I'd rate Grove Street Social three and a half stars…read more Cozy bar in the West Village. Few beers on draft. Handful of wines. Pretty decent whiskey selection, but they were pricey. One of the prices that came to mind was Redbreast 12 for $20 for a pour. I settled on Bitburger which was $10. Service was quick. You're certainly paying for the location as the bar situated amongst many clubs and events spaces.

It ended up being a nice spot for a casual catch-up, though with a few mixed impressions. The space itself is cute and very much feels like a neighborhood bar. One of the things we liked most was that they have games available--we ended up playing Scrabble while waiting for our friend to arrive, which made the time go by quickly and added to the relaxed vibe. Happy hour prices are solid, and the fried pickles we shared were decent. I also had a watermelon cocktail that was refreshing and perfectly fine, if not particularly memorable. Service was a bit inconsistent. The bartender wasn't very warm or welcoming to us initially, though that changed once our friend--who is a regular--arrived. Overall, it's a comfortable spot to meet friends and hang out for a few hours, especially on a weekday like Thursday. That said, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to return, but I can see why it works well as a local neighborhood hang.

Wonderful experience…read more Mackenzie was amazing, helping move our reservation to an earlier time, and getting us the seat we wanted. The decor was stunning. The food: The volcano rolls and bikini had amazing flavor. They really do take care in sourcing the best ingredients. The chef, Issac, brought our burger to the table, and checked in afterwards. It was phenomenal. Layers of flavor. We only needed one, and it was a perfect split (yes they brought a knife to cut it). It deserves all its praise. The mochi fries were a nice add. We finished up with the Hokkaido Soft Serve, courtesy of Angela, our server. Outstanding, and thank you. Patron note, they often run out of burgers early, so an early reservation is recommended. Thank you to the chef, and all the staff for an amazing, never rushed, and very chill experience in the heart of the village. Looking forward to our next visit.

Overall a very mid experience at "Sip". We were excited to come here during our recent trip to NYC…read moredue to Sip being named the best bar in America, but ultimately left disappointed and wishing we had spent our limited time elsewhere. The personnel was nice enough, but we didn't receive the personalized experience that you would expect with this level of establishment. Our server seemed a lot more attentive to other tables. We noticed that our server asked the table next to us, who mentioned they had been to Sip before, what types of drinks they typically like in order to make recommendations (she even sat down at their table for a more intimate inquiry). We did not receive similar treatment. She simply asked for our preference of water and what we wanted. No enhanced descriptions of the drinks were provided. The decor and ambiance is neat, I'll give them that. You go down into the cellar in a Japanese-inspired room that feels like you're transported to Tokyo. That part we enjoyed. However, the tables were very cramped and overall not very comfortable. Additionally, they told us that they had a limited number of menus so they couldn't leave us one to study for our next drink order. Given the popularity of the business, this was pretty surprising. They're not particularly special/unique menus, so they should definitely get more. Strange. The drinks themselves were fine, however, definitely fall into the "high art" category which isn't for everyone and can seem a little pretentious. The espresso martini was the oddest one out. It was clear with a slight brown tint and did not resemble a true espresso martini. It was more of the "essence" of an espresso martini with darker-chocolatey notes. I thought it was decent given what it was, but my partner did not like it as it wasn't what they were expecting. The yakitori-inspired cocktail was unique and delicious, although I would have preferred slightly less char-flavor. The creamsicle-inspired cocktail was overall pretty forgettable. The tomato/garden-inspired cocktail was fine. For food the only notable items we had were the volcano roll and the Hokkaido ice cream. The volcano roll was very delicious and probably the best thing we had all service. The Hokkaido ice cream was strange. It tasted... cheesy? Overall not what we were expecting. We've had Hokkaido milk in Japan and Hokkaido ice cream from other places in America and it has not tasted like this. Overall we were just trying to eat it without thinking about the flavor too much. I can see why some people might be a fan of Sip & Guzzle. I can't say that we were big enough fans to warrant a return visit.

Daily they have a pianist rotation along with bar staff who have voices of angels. Service at Duplex is always superb, table or at the bar. I assure you though, once you enter the doors of Duplex - you will want a table. You're immersed into the musical beauty of the city, you're reminded of Broadway dreams and Empire State miracles. Duplex gets better the more you open yourself to the social happenings around you. Share a drink, take some shots, sing a song in front of strangers. Keep in mind your tab will get pricey, but that is what you'll have to be willing to pay. Though you need not be inebriated to enjoy Duplex, I've done it multiple times and have had a great experience either way. Since we had such a great time, we stopped in on the next night, and it was a massive disappointment. Shitty attitude from the bartender. (Not sure if there were 2 bartenders with the attitude, or just one terrible bartender and a friend hanging out with him doing nothing but distracting him.) Either way, the bar was not crowded yet and he straight up ignored us. For a while. We left. Drinks are made with the cheapest of booze and served in plastic cups. Based on the quality, the prices are high, even for the neighborhood. Despite the drinks and despite the crappy service on the second visit, we will likely come back the next time we're in town in hopes of finding a bartender who understands the job. It's near other stuff we like, and the music and vibes were that good on the first night. And if it sucks again, there's like a thousand other places in walking distance.
